My initial thoughts involve there being some sort of Russian presence on the planet which was affected, possibly an embassy or perhaps even a small factory enclave type thing. From that point, the Russians would probably engage with the Raw'hein government to coordinate their military effort and then proceed to smash things. The nature of Russian FTL means that important junctions for shipping can pop up just about anywhere, so it's entirely possible to say that there's significant trade traffic through the system in question.

If that doesn't work, then I can jump in during phase II, sort of like China during the Korean War to prevent the other side from getting totally swamped.

Of course, the Russians would be more interested in taking planets intact rather than murdering everybody. They are, sadly, quite honorable in matters like the treatment of civilians and POWs

Arriving just as the rounds hit might be a bit TOO convenient. They could arrive shortly after, though. Maybe have a probe in the system monitoring the local primitive barbarians before picking up the impact.

Assuming my previous proposal is acceptable, my current thinking is that I'll pick up with a Russian relief force arriving at Hein to provide aid and assistance to the surviving population, along with an ambassador who will discuss potential Russian involvement in the conflict. We can probably work out the details from there.

There isn't anyone on Hein any more. Any who survived either got picked up in the first year or are dead from the artificial winter that came. Nearly everything's dead there for a very, very long time. However, if you want I can retcon you in as making contact then and helping with the search-and-rescue.

Having a few survivors to pick up would make things more interesting. Plus, horror stories always make for good excuses to intervene.

Okay, let me explain. My post included a timeskip of sorts, since the RP was kinda deadish and I wanted to make it easier to jump back in. So I skipped ahead to after the initial invasion, and the presumed counter that stopped it. This can be tricky to deal with - just treat it like in films or books where you're introduced to a situation that totally confuses you, and the rest of the story leads up to that point. As to the "mysterious enemy" thing (really liked the news show by the way), the Raw'hein hijacked the first planet's media network to explain the basics (you tried to kill us, arr, grrr, we're coming to get you) but that's all they've said.

EDIT: Thelza is...otherwise occupied. I'm not comfortable talking about it in public, but it's not anything bad. Hit me up on #GESO for a chat if you want.

EDIT: New Pyrrhius, your writing samples are perfectly good. Please post a summary of your expected role in the war so I can write reactions to you properly, as well as for long-term plotting.

I would like to state my intentions on focusing mainly on a ground war, although I shall still be active in orbit.. Is there a map of the systems so I can pick a landing zone?
