After they raided Greater Dienstad last year, the region was forced to implement a password for a time against everything it'd stood for for years. When Sapphire was raided, its users were forced to sit by and watch as the seemingly ceaseless tagging and vandalism went on for days until they were finally booted out - unable to do anything with their regional community throughout that time. Now we have raiders threatening to steal regional passwords, and trying to abuse their bully pulpit to use gameside features to take away what was then claimed by then as being the protection that effectively nullified the need for any further reform of the system.

So you see, it's not quite blown out of proportion. Calling for Mallorea's resignation? Yep, maybe - though really, his responses demonstrate an incredible callousness and monumental flaws in judgment that've managed to alienate a considerable portion of the site, which isn't really fine when he's supposed to be working between them. Trying to fully separate the realms of RP and R/D? It's not going to happen. But at the end of the day, what we're seeing now is a continuous, steady encroachment upon our ability to play our game without being harassed by other players for it, and that's something that needs to change.

If we leave things as they are, they're already bad enough - but there's a momentum behind the raiders that'll drive them ever further and higher. Their tagging practices, their aggression, their rampant flaming and trolling is such that plenty of longstanding raiders have left them over the past few months - don't expect us to welcome them with open arms when they turn to us and declare that it's our turn to suffer under their loathsome yoke.

The fact that this is even being addressed is absurd. We were ok for a time, someone broke the R/D-RP truce and all hell as been set loose since.

1) As many of you have guessed, I was the one who took action regarding flags under the contentious politics/flamebaiting rule since they appeared actionable to me based on previous experience with NSG flags regarding things like abortion and Obamacare.

2) Fury has since locked in on the 'flamebaiting' foundation of this precedent and, as such, only those flags that call out individuals should have been actionable.

3) As such I have gone through and reversed all deletions (that I am aware of) based on 'It's Only Politics" flags rather than directed resignation flags and personally apologized. I have also rescinded all warnings for "It's Only Politics" flags that avoided calling anyone specific out.

4) I apologize for this misinterpretation of precedent and the extreme discontent it has caused. I shall endeavor to prevent a recurrence.

5) However, it must be stated for future reference that flags calling out specific individuals, as per the linked post above, will remain actionable--whether they call for resignation or support, since the resignation calls will flamebait the supporters and the support flags will flamebait the protestors.

As much as Mall's actions are despicable, unbecoming of a mod, and would have resulted in a huge loss of support should he have been in an actual public office, I do not believe he will step down, and I do not believe he should be the focus of our efforts. Instead, we should be focused firstly on reaching a satisfactory resolution to this ordeal, one which recognizes the RP community's contributions and will ensure the safety of those contributions, and secondly on having Liberate Haven shot down, both before and after it reaches the floor.

If we just get that resolution, and if we can just get Liberate Haven out of the picture, I'll be a very happy man.

This whole flag fiasco has just aggravated the situation. Honestly, the mods should have known better. We now have R/Ders who were previously against us coming into the debate and saying, "now, that's just not on." I don't know what the mods think they're doing, but they're making a complete mess of everything by being dismissive of roleplayers' arguments and stifling debate by locking threads.

Seriously, when the source of much of the anger from RPers over this issue is motivated by the perception that R/D is being favoured and given precedence over RP, what in God's name led Scolo to believe that saying this was "no different from any other Gameplay incident that happens daily" would do anything over than fan the flames?

The direct implication of the post is that it was GD's fault for being raided, because they didn't feel the need to play the R/D game and bulk up their defenses. Intellectually, that's identical to blaming victims of muggings or rapes for not getting conceal & carry permits and dressing to avoid attention.
