Huge meteorite slams into Jazakstan

Postby Jazakstan » Tue Jun 24, 2014 5:58 am

BCB News

At approximately 1:35 pm a meteorite slammed into Jazakstan. The meteor was roughly half a mile in diameter and has destroyed 95% of Jazak land. It's unknown how many people have died but it's estimated at least 100,000,000 have died. 97% of The Jazak population. The Supreme Leader, Alexandr Modya is believed to have perished in the tragedy.

Image
Bratsnov, one of the largest Jazak cities, is completely gone as is every other Jazak city and town.

Jazak social media blew up in the hour before the strike. The meteor was seen for roughly 1 hour before it finally hit. Many people posted emotional messages to social media before the impact. Here are some..

"I assume everyone knows what's going down.. I love you all and we will meet again" - Vladimir Rimidalv

"YOLO" - Stacey Klashov

"We had good times, this is so unbelievable. I love all my freinds & family. Lets go out with a smile" - Yulag Galuy

"lol" - Danny boy

This will surely raise questions as to how more advanced technology can be produced to spot more meteors before they come close to the Earth. Scientist Harry Ford said "It's shocking, this. How we couldn't detect a meteor of this size is beyond me. This will hopefully be an awakening to the human race to really hit hard in the space industry. If this has happened once it can happen again. We can't let it be ignored."

So at this we must bid farewell to Jazakstan. A whole nation lost.

OOC: A 3 mile wide asteroid would do much, much more damage. Seeing as how the one that exterminated the dinosaurs was 6 miles wide, we can assume this one would pretty much break Jazakstan as well as any neighbouring nations.
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?

Well what a way to go out (have fun in your new nation :) )

IC: We shall send teams to look for survivors and claim mining rights over the asteroid, since no one else in Jazakstan is really in a position to do so. Any survivors that are found will have a new home in the Valaran Empire, or can depart to a nation of their choice, and, again, since no one else will, we shall claim the fallout zone that once was Jazakstan as under our administration. I do stress that humanitarian aid is our priority, but any opportunity cant be missed as well.

What a waste. All that money spent on defense and policing the State and none spent on the pursuit of scientific discovery. Let this be a lesson to those who fail to explore beyond their own borders. Our collective sympathies lie with the survivors and we can only hope that any found by the Valaran Empire will rise above their personal losses and carry on.

To President Elizabeth Key of Whale Island,
CC: all other interested parties

We would politely like to point out that there is no functioning government in the land that used to be Jazakstan; for all intents and purposes, the state has ceased to exist. On his behalf, we would appreciate it if you helped us find any survivors, but that is all we can really do.

Regards,

Foreign Secretary Nygaard

(OOC: this was his way of ending his nation. Also I might ask the new Jazakstan to TG me if he wants to?)

Thanks also to the Free Land of the Ninety-Nine Percent for its support.

We mourn gravely over the catastrophe that have happened to Jazakstan. However, this could be a chance for the people of Jazakstan to create a free, and independent society that is stateless, classless, and moneyless. No longer in the grip of their previous state, the people of Jazakstan should now be assisted for the transformation into such society, which is what we, the people of Kuzestan, are willing to give.

Valaran ships and sea planes have now arrived to attempt to begin mining look for survivors. Heat signatures from the drones that have been launched over the wreckage and satellite surveillance show that out of the former population of 196 million, only a tiny fraction have survived. Many attempted to hide in bunker and other normally safe places, but as the ground itself was torn asunder, this proved ineffective. A small tsunami was caused by the impact, destroying most shipping, while planes were knocked out of the sky by the sudden and dramatic shift in air currents.
So far, some 200 survivors have been found, as rescue operations intensify.

A statement is issued thanking Kuzestan for their support, though it is highly doubted that the nation of Jazakstan will remain at all, given what has happened to its land. If they still want to send help they can, as can (almost) any other nation.

Despite the nation of Detland having no prior connection to Jazakstan (*evil chuckle*), we applaud its decision to to this. Jazak City will be a worthy successor to the old capitals of Jazakstan, such as Kratalast.

Large numbers of Mechanocracy warships have arrived at the Jazakstani coast, ready to pick up the citizens who survived the meteor catastrophe. A 3,000-strong expeditionary force has already been dispatched to the island to search for more survivors in the ruins of the country, and the survivors aboard the ships will be integrated into the Mechanocracy.

(Can I assume that Detland is the new Jazakstan?)

We are happy for the Mechnocracy to do this, though we have already found several thousand by now and are progressing inland. It is also uncertain how many survivors are actually left to be rescued. Perhaps we should coordinate our rescue operations?

1430 Hours: Dorian National Geo-spatial Agency. (24/6/2014)

"Marcos, take a look at this: The seismograph is detecting one hell of an earthquake. Wait, what the hell?... it just stopped." A young astronomer by the name of Roman called his friend a few desks over to observe the anomaly.

"That was no earthquake, Roman. That was an impact. A big one too. 8.1 on the Richter Scale." Marcos observed.

"If there was an earthquake, then why didn't we feel it?" Another astronomer, named Yuri overheard their conversation.

"It must have happened all the way across the planet." Roman said, still recording seismic data from the event.

"OH MY GOD!!!" Some one yelled out in the control center, drawing the three astronomers away from their desks. "Savinhy-Dozhev 602398 just hit Jazakstan!" The same voice yelled.

"Savinhy-Dozhev? We had predictions that that asteroid would pass safely by Earth!" Another voice responded.

The three astronomers looked at one another, and walked down towards the center of the control room. "Did anyone lose track of Savinhy-Dolzhev?" Yuri asked the entire room. Most of the room shook their heads, as they weren't even worried about the asteroid at the time. "For Veii's sake..." Yuri said under his breath, while pinching the bridge of his nose. "So we were all careless. Damn it...." Yuri finished speaking. "Turn on the television right now!" Yuri ordered. The images on the news were horrific, an entire country, gone within the blink of an eye. The whole room fell silent as they heard the incoming reports of the casualties and the damage.

The Valaran Empire would like to respectfully point out that Jazakstan no longer functions as any cohesive body or national entity, with nearly all of its lands and people destroyed. This being said, we would be more than happy for your nation to assist us in finding survivors, as we are partially occupying all that is left of the nation. We would also like to express our condolences at those Mordakians who died.

Regards,
Foreign Secretary Nygaard.

Ah, but IC time doesn't go the same way as OOC time, and you aren't in Hemithea. It would take days for you to get there by boat, even at 50 knots; and your aircraft wouldn't have anywhere to stop to refuel so couldn't get there either.

We traded with Jazakstan and so we had ships nearby. Also no one did respond for some time ICwise as well so I had free reign. As I said I am also happy to work something mutually beneficial out (shared rights).
Also Jazak (detland) basically gave me de facto control over it (TGwise).

Finally I should point out that I am exhausted, so we can do this tomorrow if that's ok? I mean I can do it for a bit longer but not excessively...

As far as I'm concerned, 5 minutes has passed ICly, and no more. That hardly gives you free reign.

Also Jazak (detland) basically gave me de facto control over it (TGwise).

Did Jazak give you control ICly or OOCly? If ICly he can't enforce it, if OOCly, then I'm sure in due course we can permit you to purchase a part of the territory to cover part of the costs of compensation.

No offence but 5 minutes did not pass ICwise, and I'm not sure where you got your figure from, to be honest.
Everyone before this seems to have assumed much more time has passed, including others like the Mechnocracy, judging by their actions. So I would have to disagree.

And it was his land, so he can give it.

Anyway the shared deal? (I was trying to be nice here, as there is no need to squabble over it :) )

I used to run an alliance, and a region. Not that it matters now.
