Nation Name: The Macabees (Official: Second Empire of the Golden Throne)
Demonym: Macabee
Capital: Fedala
Leader: Fedor I
Political system: Imperial, but with strong decentralized democratic system at all levels. The distribution of power between Fedor and the Senate, at the "Federal" level, changes over time.
Military Size: Huge (even 2% of my pop is ~470 million), but irrelevant
Reason for joining the conflict: I'm not interested in joining the conflict per sé. Rather, I'm interested in supplying one side or the other, or preferably both (think of U.S. assistance to both Iraq and Iran). We are interested in establishing a relationship that would allow us to commercially tap that oil, whether it is by importing it from the firms of whichever country ends up winning, or through agreement to allow Macabee direct investment into those oil fields. OOC, it's also been a while since I've RPd, and I'm looking to get back into it, and maybe even build a relationship for future RPs.

if everyone could hold of posting on the IC for a moment that would be excellent, I'm coming up with an IC way for other nations to get directly involved that isn't just them showing up with an invasion force ready to kick ass and take names

I was hoping I could just assume I have embassies in relevant nations, so that I can host talks with representatives of the respective nations -- individually, of course.

I think I've given nations a reasonable excuse to get involved on the Padnaki side and I expect that Vancon will post something similar when he gets the time

My Opinion so far.

Postby Vancon » Fri May 02, 2014 10:31 am

I've got a few things to say:
1. Lots of people are joining and I like this a lot.
2. I would like to remind The Macabees to keep deployments reasonable. Right now it's a small conflict around an oil rig. That does NOT mean that you need to send in 45000 soldiers.
3. Please keep the OOC stuff in the proper thread
4. Die erworbenen Namen, you were in the The Zeurtgen Bombing Incident as well so maybe include that into your conflict as I will be doing the same
5. Congreveopia and Die erworbenen Namen, don't get cocky. It's rude and annoying and I would appreciate it if you stopped that whilst OOC.
6. Padnak, please remove the OOC posts in the IC thread because it breaks immersion.
7. Remember, Padnak uses mostly tech from the 60's and I'm barely PMT (Looking into experimental railguns that are still both unreliable and power consuming). This thread is supposed to be MT.

Padnak and I have an overall plan about how this will escalate later on into a bigger conflict so you will be able to send in larger forces at a later date.

If I deploy any soldiers at all, it would just be escorts and such for convoys.

Also, if I post too fast/slow, feel free to float where you place events I'm involved with. If, for example, my embassy meeting is too soon, we could act as if it really takes place at whatever time would be best for the RP. The same would be true of arms shipments and whatnot.

I think the meeting at this time would make sense, given that the Padnaki government feels like its kicked the hornets nest and needs allies

The Macabees, are you transporting cargo on suborbital flights? If not, what is the atmospheric flight thing you are talking about?

Follow the GATA link. There I link to the "technology." It's PMT; if it were a weapon, probably too PMT for this RP, but I figure that the only thing it changes is the amount of time for most goods to make their way across the world. But, a lot of goods, especially heavy military equipment, has to be shipped the old fashioned way. (And, depending on how far away we are, that could take months.)

I didn't understand what you meant by large aircraft "skipping" along the upper atmosphere. This is the three things I thought it might mean:

1: It's an aircraft that flies higher than normal aircraft.
2: It's an aircraft that flies to some height high in the atmosphere and uses rockets to toss itself into space. It then falls back into the atmosphere and repeats until it completes the trip.
3: It's an aircraft that flies to some height high in the atmosphere and uses rockets to do a suborbital flight to the destination.

None of these made sense to me because they seemed to be far more expensive than normal aircraft, have much less cargo capacity, and all that that gains them is a slightly faster and safer trip, which doesn't add up economically because most aircraft have a safe trip anyways, and actually the safety from attack is probably outweighed by the added risks of rockets, space, reentry etc. And besides, even if there was a big threat, I still think I'd be cheaper to just have a couple of drones escort each cargo plane.

I think it's (2). Edit: I'm also assuming that the technology has been developed to allow for transports of comparable size to large commercial airliners. Since it's for trade, I think we can be more willing to allow dubious PMT technologies -- especially since it really presents no technological advantage, as far as anything military is concerned.

I have a population of ~23.5 billion people. The country right next to me has a similarly sized population. Economies are usually characterized by economies of scale. The larger the market -- the more people there are in the market --, the cheaper the average cost of production. So, for a country like my own, this technology will not be prohibitively expensive. Granted, the cost of a civilian aircraft is already bound to be relatively low in large nations. But, aircraft can't cover the kind of distances that characterize NS -- a huge planet.

You're right that there's nothing inherit in the technology that makes it safer. You're right, if anything it's more dangerous. What makes it safe, though, is that if he enters the association, an attack on those routes are interpreted as an attack on the entire association. So, what makes those routes safe is the implicit support of an entire association. True, right now, that association is only me. But, I'm a pretty big country.
