The Oligarchical Collectivist Revolution [OOC|Any*|Planning]

Postby Gigaverse » Mon Apr 14, 2014 3:45 am

* "Any" stands for "Any Tech"; so that after the planning, it would fit any category that was previously accepted during the staging.
* Warning: The Player behind this nation is either not into or not with practicality, logistics, numbers, realism, maths and human emotion in general. Or just insane.

Are you one of those people bored to death with nothing to do (on NationStates, that is)?

Do you happen to control a nation and roleplay with it, just for fun? (Read: not representing your political views/not your Marysuetopia/blah blah blah.)

Are you still watching this?

Then you've come to the right place.

Welcome, folks, to the planning stage of an RP which will result in much blood (if that's needed) - an Oligarchical Collectivist Revolution.

So basically, what I have in mind is for an Oligarchical Collectivist Revolution to take place in any random country, at any random given time; and, for all reasons and purposes, the "revolutionaries" emerge victorious and stay in power for a hell of a lot of years - you decide. (Alternatively, the regime wouldn't fall at all!)

Of course, this concept is still a little fresh, and it will need further discussions and plannings in order to come down to a final conclusion; but hey, it's interesting, right?

So come! Taint your hands and feet with the blood of the innocents, smash the skulls of the counter-revolutionaries, execute countless of the citizenry; abuse your citizens however you like, because The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized.

Viva la Revolución!

Sounds like an interesting idea. My nation already runs under rules like this. Maybe it could be some sort of dark mirror image of the 1848 revolutions.

I remember that your nation runs on a monarchy of sorts, correct?

Yes, it's an absolute imperial monarchy for the moment. However, localism runs strong and could see a resurgence it a crisis were to occur.

Well, we may need to dig further into what that canon's like.

Please, do tell me more what you can.

Well, my country was founded by a group of aliens called Xixians fleeing their wrecked homeworld. They eventually arrived on Earth and established their country in the nuclear ruins of a formerly advanced civilization. They then merged with the survivors (humans, mutants, degenerated cyborgs) to form Omegaopterix. The country was originally ruled by an Executor who's power was kept in check by a group by the Warlords who would often overthrow the Executor if they felt he didn't do their will. It was acceptable practice to challenge the Executor to a duel to the death to determine who would rule; this obviously led to alot of political instability.

During the Zombie Invasion, the country was assaulted by waves of strange extradimensional beings. In their desperation, the citizens turned to a fanatical religion headed by the psychotic Lady Troux Noire (this is her: http://danverkys.deviantart.com/art/Savage-124034485). After the victory, the country became a brutal theocracy run by her and her magis. However, once the religious fervor went down, resentment against her rule grew, and in the following revolt, she was overthrown and executed. In her place came Rogvald Von Splat, leader of the rebellion, who declared himself absolute emperor and consolidated all power in himself.

And by this time around, people would then start to resent him and want him overthrown?

They might, although regardless of who's in charge, life will probably be miserable for the average citizen. Slavery is ubiquitous, average people have never had any say in the government, and the standard of living for the majority of people is incredibly poor. If any revolt occurs, it would probably come from inside the upper echelons of government.

That being said, there is definitely alot of resentment, and if people thought they could successfully revolt, it might well happen.

You have read a little about "The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism", true?

I'm familiar with it, yes. Unfortunately, due to the diverse, semi-anarchic nature of the Omegaopterix (crime and personal violence are rampant), imposing such a comprehensive thought control system is probably out of its league.

I'm pretty sure that before the "Revolution", such a state could have existed in both the US and the UK of 1984's setting.

It's entirely possible. Tyranny often follows anarchy.

How about we give it a shot in Omegaopterix?

Let there be a "Big Brother" figure. Or "Grand Father". Or whatever your suggestion is.

That's a good idea. How would your country come into play?

Hmm... That's a good question.

Given the Any-tech premise...

I always have that shadowy council working behind the scene in my lore. If there is a Big Brother in Omegaopterix, it could have been that this man was approached by said council, with promises of "absolute power", in exchange for allegiance to it as well as carrying out a Revolution in the place.

I really like that idea. Do you want to start an IC thread?

Would you or me be the one to start?

Because I don't think I can do anything since I don't know Omegaopterix all that much.
