Cant argue with the contrast of then vs now though, must have been kind of scary RPing back then ; I noticed a steep decline in the number of "old" nations and the quality of militaristic RPs around late 2012. maybe the apocalypse was true after all. :(

Yeah, the wars were pretty violent (Crookfur gave a good summary). They even wrote a guide on what to expect and how to properly use the IGNORE-cannon.

So yes, back in '07 you were fully expected to post losses if you took upon yourself the wrath of a nation revolving around star-wars canon.
-The first RP-war I got into involved clone-armies, the literal Black Hand of Nod from the C&C franchise (they were the good-guys), hellbore-cannons, three fire-raids, two instances of sliding a tectonic-plate into the sea, and at least three open-air nuclear detonations.

At that time, most of my military was using '70s vintage with tanks about thirty years further behind the tech-curve (using late WW2 era tech for suspension). We survived by being clever.

I ended up capping my nation at 1.3-1.6 billion, depending on how I feel. I did that once I hit 3.33 billion.

As to NEC's questions: I'd love it to be canon, only cuz zombies are in my canon. I think a nice metro setting would be be sweet, only because we also haven't done a metro setting yet since Olympia was desert-mountains and Helios is South Asian village.

As for the last one, I think a good mystery could be done and maybe reveal it later if it was engineered?

Repost of my application, as requested by NEC. I’ve edited it considerably, and made sure it fulfills the requirement of the group application. And on review, I realize I’ve put way, way too much effort into this - it’s exactly 1400 words on Microsoft Word - but hey, go hard or go home, right?

Name of Nation:

The New Sylvan Republic

Name of Warfighter:

Gypsy Company, First Recon Battalion, New Sylvan Republic Rangers

Warfighter Loadout:

Armored trench coat, over an assortment of tactical gear. (Rangers are allowed incredible flexibility with their equipment, and so it varies drastically) The trench coat and Mk XI ICH makes Rangers easily identifiable as the badass mofos they are on the battlefield.

Mk XI Integrated Combat Helmet – Designed from an Air Force HUD helmet, the Mk XI includes sattelite uplinks for GPS and communications, an environmental protection/ air filtration system, night vision, thermal, and infrared systems, as well as standard ballistics protection.

The Sylvan standard issue is the semi-automatic R91 Service Rifle. Many Rangers admire it’s accuracy and durability, although some use foreign and other domestic weapons, or even modify existing ones to fit a more specific purpose.

(I can expand the Loadout list more if needed, I know it’s not much. Also, if you want a picture, imagine an NCR Ranger from Fallout: New Vegas)

Biography of Unit:

The NSR Rangers predecessor, the Coalition State Joint Strike Force (JSF), was formed in 1998. The JSF saw combat in every major conflict the Coalition State was involved in; however when James LeBlanc’s launched a coup de etat, the JSF split and was disbanded. Most of the former JSF operatives fought for the counterrevolutionaries in the New Sylvan Republic, and NSR High Command decided to designate a new unit for the ex-JSFs – and the Rangers were born. Under the command of Major General Samantha Clarke, the NSR Rangers are the premier Tier One special forces unit of the Republic. During the Second Sylvan War, when James LeBlanc attempted to re-absorb the NSR into the now-autocratic Coalition State, the Rangers found themselves behind enemy lines. They preformed as a guerrilla force that ravaged the Coalition’s logistics. During the Battle of Capistrano, the NSR First Recon Battalion cut off the enemy’s line of retreat by raiding the last bridge over the Pananglo River, trapping the Coalition State Fifth Army and forcing it’s surrender. They also are skeeing major action alongside regular army forces in my ongoing conflict, The Flaming Torch Forever, or as it is also known, the Meridian War. The Rangers are an invite-only unit that numbers only eight hundred, and are renown across the region for their fearlessness and combat prowess. (RP evidence of all of this, just ask and I can link you)

Biography of Important/Main Warfighter(s):

These are just some major characters. I’ll be using a small platoon (roughly 20 Rangers) for ATLAS, however I can’t spare the entire First Recon battalion because of the war Sylva is currently fighting against Mozria, Erquin, and Northern Collectives. Which, I’ll add, it is winning.

CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER STEPHEN CYR - In 2008 joined the Sylvan military as a gunship copilot. Saw action in Sidonia under Lt. General Carpenter and the First Armored Division, flying helicopters for the 85th Airmobile Brigade, when he was shot down and survived in the Sidonian Jungle for two weeks before being rescued by an Allied Nations CSAR team. After the war retired to start a family in the city of Jacinto, New Sylvan Republic. When the Coalition State invaded the NSR in April 2014, he started a resistance movement called the Jacinto County Militia, which eventually liberated the city in August of that year, and was knighted for his efforts. After that he was employed by the Department of Sylvan Intelligence, (DIS) and co-authored a revolutionary movement in the Northern Collectives, which paved the way for a Sylvan invasion of that nation. During his efforts in the Northern Collectives, where he sustained numerous life-threatening injuries, he quit DIS and became a helicopter pilot for the NSR Rangers, the Republic's tier-one special forces battalion. (Once again I have RP evidence of all of this...he has been a main character in every roleplay I've done with Sylva)

MAJOR GENERAL SAMANTHA CLARKE – Daughter of Sylva’s greatest general, John Clarke, Samantha inherited her father’s strategic genius. Joined the military at age 16, originally in the Navy as to not trample on her father’s legacy in the army. She was a First Lieutenant during the Axis-SDC Conflict on the destroyer
Corbinsburg. During a pitched battle against the Sanian Navy, the bridge was hit and the she was left as the highest-ranking officer on the vessel. She took command and kept the vessel in the fight, until she was forced to evacuate the ship after multiple airstrikes against it. Even here, she was the last person to leave the doomed ship, trying to save trapped crew members until the very end. She received the Alexander Cross for her actions, as well as the Royal Merit, the highest award Sylva can give to a citizen. After this she took command of the Joint Strike Force, (which was part of the Navy) and later became the CO of the Rangers, which was technically Army. In an effort to keep her in command, Clarke transferred to the Army with the equivalent rank of Major General.

MAJOR JAMES KNIGHT – A Mozrian emigrant, Knight volunteered for the First Recon against Coalition forces during the Second Sylvan War. He was originally a Captain in the Mozrian Army, who returned to his home country in it’s time of need. He led a raid on a Coalition supply train which to this day is hailed as one of the most successful guerrilla raids in Sylva’s long history.

STAFF SERGEANT PASCAL – Formerly JSF, and then a member of the NSR Rangers, Pascal saw action during the Sidonian War and during the Second Sylvan War at the Battle of Chandler. He, alongside longtime friend Master Sergeant Cole, were part of the Ranger Guard Corps, a company sized-force of Rangers dedicated to protecting the capital and government officials.

MASTER SERGEANT COLE – Also formerly JSF, Cole saw action during the Sidonian War and the Second Sylvan War alongside Pascal. Cole takes his marksmanship seriously and is by many considered the best shot in the NSR Rangers. Unlike many modern snipers Cole uses a bolt-action Sinclair Rifle from 1938, which he inherited from his father’s father, which he considers superior to any modern sniper rifle in use internationally.

(I’ll say it one more time – all these people are major RP characters. I have roleplay evidence of all their exploits. The Second Sylvan War is the main source of their history – it’s linked in my signature as Sylva Rising, which I’ll add is one of my best RPs, ever)

RP Experience:

Extremely advanced. I have been roleplaying on NS since 2012 (I've had multiple nations) and have been writing stories for as long as can remember, and have had very good feedback. I was even invited to speak about my Good Country People thesis paper at the Flannery O'Connor academic conference at Cistercian. If you want to see my roleplays, as well as my Fallout fanfic, visit the Meridia region page.

Techlevel:

MT, roughly. In some areas my nation is more advanced than base MT (such as having an orbital military space station, the North Star, which is armed with a OFC, or Orbital Friendship Cannon, which spreads the power of love by total annihilation. Just kidding – I wanted to check if anyone was actually reading this) but on a more serious note my tech is not to the point of PMT. I don't have Fallout power armor (yet), naval railguns, or things like that.

P.S.

I’m really looking forward to roleplaying with you guys – I’ve done my homework and read all of ATLAS’ operations, and I must say you’ve done a stellar job as of yet. I’m sure that from a writer’s standpoint I can provide you guys with all sorts of ideas and crazy plot twists that will make Project: Warfighter that much more interesting. Furthermore, I believe the addition of the Rangers to your already stacked contingent will be most beneficial to ATLAS, as well as the NSR’s abundant resources, which it will bring with the Rangers. You guys can expect some awesome new tech in future ops![/blue]

Well, I'd be happy to spare one of my cities for this op. Lets say that, perhaps, a bio-experiment went wrong and as a result the city was infected. My military has the place surrounded, and ATLAS needs to extract the scientists that can create a cure. It'd be a good way to introduce the Rangers to ATLAS, anyway. I can work on a more detailed casus belli if you want.

New Emmerian Coalition wrote:As for the zombies, NS Zombies have always been on the odds of slow shamblers and olympic runners mixed in with one another. While Hurt's idea could prove interesting, and quite possibly disastrous if we don't do it right (AKA, we get mauled by the people we protect), we could turn it into a woe is me Attack on TItan why is everyone dying and why are we being eaten cliche, or a Michael Bay "Nation" TO THE RESCUE cliche. Another question; where do we want it to take place? Do we want it to be canon? And do we want to be the evildoers? I say this because HECU Marines in Black Mesa pretty much killed everything. Or tried.

Once again, I would be happy to host this. It would be a fantastic opportunity to introduce ATLAS to the Rangers. As for the evildoers, I could see it being an accident...and it would have to have some way of stopping the virus, or there's really no point.

Land-based siege-railguns of 305mm and bigger are overrated, as the Parthians once admirably demonstrated by air-assaulting several fire-support bases with them.

Sure, we knocked out 75-100 tanks (and an even more ridiculous amount of elite paratroopers) that day with less than 60 people lost in action*... but each of those guns had cost a small fortune. Their payload was also more of a nuisance than an actual deterrent and could be likened to slapping a superpower with a frozen halibut.

Naval railguns... same story, much more vulnerable to getting sunk, and far less accurate.

My experience with orbital assets is that if any sufficiently advanced paranoid nation sees it, they'll shoot it down and claim you had a technical problem. Nations trying to be cute will even go so far as to launch a technical-truck into space. Only solution is attrition by making it cheaper and more worthwhile for you to send up orbital assets than it is for them to get shot-down, and keep them from being obvious game-changers, like UNIVAC. Also, metric crapload of decoys. ./

As for power armor... the laws of physics will hate you, and it won't take too long for them to find some way to kill it.

*Also, zombies. Because it was from an RP set in Oct of '06. One of the last proposed uses of the cannon was to launch zombies at other people with them, but our zombies were different, so we simply upgraded them to IGNORE-status.

Beautiful. Accepted.

ZOMBIE COMMAND CENTER IS UP, DECISION IS TO BE MADE :

- Atlas is pinned down in an Eastern European-esc nation. The warring sides have seemingly vanished from the battlefield all together. It is not long before the dead rise, and trap Atlas in the middle of a city, plagued by ruin and undead. Atlas has to make it out, the Revelation is not far but... will they make it past the hordes of zombies and biological weapons?

- The World is falling apart as we know it, and Atlas is stuck on the sidelines. As the Revelation races back to friendly waters in an effort to bring the might of the Misriah Corps (Emmerian Rangers) and Atlas ot fight the infection, the ship goes dark in black waters. Something is aboard, infecting crew and personnel alike.

- Terrorists have seized an experimental weapons system, and plan to unleash it upon the world. The effects of this weapon are horrific, and the terrorists themselves are its first weapon. Can Atlas contain this threat? Or will the world be consumed by the dead?

- The world's military forces have been beaten back by large hordes of the undead, but some nations continue to fight and see victory across the battlefields of the dead. Atlas, now bolstered by the strength of more operators, is dispatched to one of the nations to provide support and instruct the civilian populace on how to survive the apocalypse. Thigns go sour, however, when they find the survivors quite unruly... even more so then the dead.

- WHAT ELSE GIVE ME IDEAS ;-; (Or one where we team up with the B.S.A.A... I think we're going to team up with the B.S.A.A.)

Plots 1 and 2.

Middle of Helios. Enemy-contacts (and our 'local assistance') begin to fall-off the grid. No biggie, is hurricane. A bit of spooky-shit but nothing a shitload of bullets can't solve.

So we get back, mission accomplished, even got ourselves a few prisoners.

Well care to guess what happens next?

Hmm, I like Hurt's idea, but I think this would take place after Helios or in an Alt-Uni where Helios hasn't taken place yet. I'll keep that thought, it's our best idea yet. Unruly survivors sounds good but it would take the fun out of zombies possibly. I do want us to have B.S.A.A. backup too.

I'm open to more ideas, I have WORD Open and I'm ready to write the Op.

EDIT: Wow you guys really love the Resident Evil Idea. How do I fit in da BSAA though ;-; (totes doesn't want the BSAA in the RP)

Well care to guess what happens next?

...Yes. Definetley yes. And perhaps you make contact with a Sylvan destroyer...

I don't know if you can work this in anywhere, but I would love to sail the Revelation into a zombie-infected city.

Have it run into my massive port, Madrigal. Then I can introduce my Rangers.

Or you could have the Rangers have landed on the Revelations earlier, they banter about "your first op will be pretty simple." And then it's not simple, as the Revelations plunges into a port in Country A and the BSAA reinforces Atlas as they desperately fight for survival and the Misriah Rescue Corps. Also rampant civvies.

Idea : Rangers are the lone survivors aboard Revelation. They've locked themselves in say the mess hall and make contact with the rest of ATLAS upon their return to the ship.

Well, The Revelation has a couple thousand personnel. It'd be literal death to take them on alone xP Not to mention other Coalition Spec Ops on board. Anyways, I'm thinking about ramming the ship into a port, with the BSAA helping us (And being cannon fodder) while Emmerian Rangers are still quite far away.

Perhaps a large Asian esc city? That'd be full of undead, and panicked people.

The Mess hall... where the infected would have access to large cleavers...

Very Resident Evil-y.

Well, I imagined the Rangers having barricaded all the doors and using it as a safe zone...and are the infected going to use weapons? Oh shit.

Large Asian City... LARGE ASIAN CITY!!!!

yah that makes sense.

Also as all zombie movies and video games and books have shown us. The undead cannot use weapons.
