Mission statement: Since the founding of Earth V in 2004, Earth V strives to provide a realistic role-play simulation of NationStates nations with real-life territory in the modern-technology era, in addition to maintaining a territory list recognized outside of Earth V.

What is Earth V?

Simply put, it is a giant closed-RP version of modern Earth. The environment here emphasizes a level of realism uncommon on the rest of NS, including more realistic military budgets and the use of real-world geography and equipment. We also have a version of the United Nations and occasionally have non-state actors.

How does one join Earth V?

First, check the claiming limits:

• Nations with a solid history of NS RP: three countries or the equivalent.
• For nations with a population of 500 million and above and a history of one month of NS RP: 2 countries (or four "*" marked countries) [The master list of territories is out-dated; please ask for help if you want more details]
• For nations with a population under 500 million but above 200 million: One country (or two "*" marked countries).
• Those who do not meet any of these requirements -- which are there for quality control -- may join as probationary members.

Second, make a request in this thread. Sharina and I shall review the request. All you need to do is state what territory you would like -- although it would be best if you could check the Earth V map first. (It is also possible to join as a non-state actor, which may be an attractive option for newer members, although it may be more difficult.) Note that the following are currently the only members on Earth V (ignore anything else on the map):

If accepted, you will receive a welcome message with further instructions.

Note that we expect a reasonable amount of activity from members; those who do not post for longer than a month may have their claims revoked if they do not respond to an activity check message.

Important Notices:

• The United States has special rules, as do certain other large RL states.
• Although Earth V is primarily a closed-RP environment, Earth V possessions may represent an Earth V user's land in any NS RP. But if there are other "earths" involved in the RP, this may not be possible.
• I must be informed of any changes in Earth V possessions.
• There is to be no debating over land in this thread. This is first-come, first-serve.

Compliance with alternative history ban statement
The premiers of Earth V wish to remind everyone that Earth is, and has always been, in full compliance with the ban on alternative history RPs. As [url="http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=528525"]Scolopendra explains[/url], "Using Real Earth geography is fine. Using the shape of Real Earth countries is fine. Using Real Earth populations is fine. Using the actual Real Earth countries (culture, history, et al), and thus essentially being a carbon copy of a Real Earth country, is not."

RP rules:

• Military declaration post: Before becoming involved in ANY military RP, it is necessary have a military declaration post in the military declaration thread, following the real population rule budget and military statistics as regulated by Sharina.
• Puppet rules: Though it is discouraged due to the complex rules and limitations, a maximum of one puppet state is allowed for each Earth V state to also use on Earth V. Puppet states CANNOT be in any of the same military alliances (excluding the United Nations) as its "mother country" or vice versa, assist its "mother country" militarily or vice versa, make unfair deals with its "mother country" or vice versa, or be engaged in any military operation on the same side. Moreover, it is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED that puppets remain as active as its "mother country" or vice versa (they are both required to remain active on Earth V to keep their land, regardless) and that puppets have a unique identity from their mother states and vice versa. Any Earth V state with a puppet on Earth V must inform me so I may enforce these rules, though players with puppets are encouraged NOT to tell others, in order to encourage fair play.
• Quasi-puppets: States may be created as real NS nations to represent quasi-sovereignty (such as TG6R Poland), but their populations or budgets may not be used (only the "real" NS state's statistics count).
• Time: Time is NS time, but the year is always the RL year. Look at the following code:

• Budget percentages: No creating custom budgets. Always use ratios based on ThirdGeek NS Economy calculations.
• Companies: RL companies are allowed (but always must be connected to the state in RL), and the use of RL equipment is encouraged.
• Existing NS militaries: not allowed.

Yes, that would be acceptable. We are in need of new, active members at the moment.

Here is a post that outlines the essential information for new members, which should answer most of your questions. (The most important part is how defense budgets are calculated on Earth V, which, as you will notice, is tremendously in your favor, as you have Indonesia. Here are several examples of military declarations from the old thread on Jolt, and here is the current military declaration thread where you would need to post before taking military action on Earth V.)

So what of North America is currently open? Just out of curiosity, my NationStates population is 9.575 billion and have been NS RPing on a similar type of closed-RP region called Eastern Europe since 2004. What would that allow me?

On a side note, my NS defense budget is $0.00, can I modify it slightly to allow me to have a standing military?

Teklansia, you could join as a probationary member, which would grant you one territory until you prove that you're at least somewhat sane and reasonable IC.

Modravia, as you can see from the map, you'd be surrounded by the infamous "green blob" that is Sharina if you decide on some portion of North America. Most of it is claimed, but the South looks wide-open. If you'd like a list, the open land is: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia. Given your experience, you'd be eligible for the equivalent of three countries (two U.S. states are equivalent to one country, except for Texas).

Avenio, you would have permission to have a reasonable defense budget (it's a bit tough to survive without an army on Earth V) if you joined. To be fair, it would be the actual defense budget of whatever territory you claim. (You may also want to manipulate your responses to the NS issues to increase defense spending.) As for territories, you would be allowed the equivalent of two countries.

Yes, that's perfectly acceptable. In fact, this kind of idea is better for NS rules reasons: being a cut-out of a real state would make the RP close to an alternative history RP, which isn't allowed on NS.
