Asklepion, Southern Damoclea
"Bolt"

Nicolaus Polycarp was a street urchin throughout most of his life. Growing up in the darker times of his parents and grandparents, Nicolaus lacked a proper upbringing as he grew up in a rough part of Asklepion. His house was nothing more than plywood in most places and he rarely saw his parents -- his mother a prostitute to earn cash and his father being an army dog was drafted and rarely returned home. At his tender age of twelve, he had already left home; his mother now rarely ever came home anyway and his father was probably killed during the last war. Nicolaus, with his black hair, short height, and rough personality, was a perfect psychopath in training. Fighting daily on the streets to get a bite to eat; Nicolaus constantly fought other children and had even fought adult bums -- his first kill came at eight when he stabbed to death a teen slightly older than he was. By now, he was covered in dirt, scars, bullet wound marks, scratches, and had nasty bruises healed all over; his body was full of healed wounds, physical and emotional. This rough and tough child almost mirrored a child soldier from parts all over the world; he had the scars and experiences to prove it too. He was now hollow; nothing but an empty shell trying to survive in a world that did not accept him. He hoped his mother was raped to death and that his father had earned a bayonet to the throat -- the gods or god could go die already too.

It was on a normal evening as Nicolaus was sitting in a dark and filthy alleyway. He starred at the old bread from the restaurant he sat behind now -- having plucked out the old bread from the trash to eat as dinner. That was when he met his first foreigner. The man was tall, had a dark outfit on and seemed to prefer to hide his face with a hood and hat. He didn't look scruffy nor did he look dirty; he looked like a military dog wrapped in business man's outfit. The first reaction of Nicolaus was a dark and empty gaze at the man above him, thinking him of a threat; one hand on his knife, hidden in his pocket, he used the very day before to kill a child who tried to take his bread -- he was probably the same age as when Nicolaus had earned his first kill, eight. That was when the strange man knelt down and reached into his coat -- he slowly brought out a large wrapped up bread and offered it to the boy; it was obviously fresh and was still steaming with warmth and taste. Without thinking, Nicolaus quickly grabbed the bread and forgot his intention to kill the man; his knife flying out as he dropped it alongside his old stale bread. Nicolaus feasted like a king in that moment, not caring for his safety or of the rest of the world. "You are obviously hungry lad." the man spoke softly while glancing down at the boy still devouring the bread. He starred down at the knife; it was old and rusting -- it was obvious it had been used for killing, blood that had dried was still on it. The boy too looked scared and was obviously one who gave and took beatings. The man grinned and offered out his hand to pull the boy up.

"Let me treat you to a feast even a king doesn't deserve."

A month and a half passed by quickly since that night. Nicolaus, with his empty eyes and hard toned physique, had come a long way. That night, he met a Commoner SIGS soldier out recruiting blood for a special unit: the Assassins. The Commoner took great interest in the boy at first sight and decided to take him, feed him, and bring him into the unit. After a month long strict training session; Nicolaus was one of Damoclea's most ruthless if not professional child soldiers and assassins. Nicolaus did not care about the money he could earn or that he would be killing people; he wanted a life that freed him of the streets and to survive. That feast he received his first night turned him loyal as a dog; the subjugation brainwashing helped too. He was now not a street rat, a boy, or a man; Nicolause or now code name "Bolt", was cog in a machine called revolution; he would kill or die for the cause the very second he was ordered to.

Bolt stood amongst the crowd that was now protesting. He was utterly bored by the topic itself but was not paying attention to the topic at this point. Bolt was hidden well inside the large crowd of Damocleans; his short size helped conceal him but his visibility lacked some -- he trained around this to see through the cracks of people and abuse any opening he could see. His disguise was early familiar to assassins in his unit; a dark hoody, hood up, that was a bit to big for him, dark pants, and the tasteful white mask over his face. He dashed through holes in the crowd and blended in without trouble, making his way to the front of the crowd to get a view of the confrontation. Darkness and the crowd were now his best friends and his world.

Bolt finally made his way near the front of the crowd; he wasn't too close nor was he too far. He could see most of the front through the openings and cracks of figures surrounding him. He saw the line of McNernian police and saw the Father at the forefront of the mess; he knew he arrived at an optimal location. Bolt stared down the Father like a raven to its next meal. The topic he was interested in was the Father.

Unbeknownst of the Judicial Front and most Damocleans; the assassin unit was only working for the SIGS unit. Their loyalty stretched that far alone and it never strayed -- they don't answer to the Judicial Front nor do they to others. Even though the Farther was a valuable ally to the cause, he was more valuable dead. That is why he was to die tonight; Bolt didn't care about making him a martyr but would follow that kill order if it meant his life depended on it. Bolt crept his way through the crowd slowly, buying his time as he got closer. He had one hand on his blood patch switch and the other on his fully loaded Škorpion hidden inside the big front pocket of his hoody, where both hands now kept warm in wait. He got close enough to take out the Father easily in one shot, let alone a burst; his weapon was hald drawn when he noticed the commotion that was igniting the front of the line. That commotion was dressed in full military dressed uniform and wearing white gloves; it's name was Field Marshal Louis MacKellon, military governor of Southern Damoclea. Bolt was shocked at the development; what in names sake was such a high end official doing in the depths of this Hell? This worked great for Bolt though; he not only had his target in front of him, but he even had the highest priority target right in front of him as well. He watched as the Field Marshal made his way and stood in front of the line; out in the open, no protection, standing in limbo. It was too good of an opportunity -- as they say, 'Kill two birds with one stone'. "That stupid bastard." Bolt thought to himself. "Thank you so very much."

The next second passed so fast that time itself slowed to catch up. Bolt drew his weapon, aimed straight for the Field Marshall who was wide open and sprayed his ten bullets in a flash. He ripped off his mask and chucked both the mask and his gun as hard as he could under the feet of the now panicking crowd. Bolt then quickly activated his patch which blew like a rifle bullet had just pierced his chest, blood flying everywhere, and fell as if dead with a deathly scream. Now all he had to do was let the blood gather and lower his heart beat bellow detection if he wasn't really shot in the next few seconds that is -- and of course let the world end. "Deal with a dead kid now McNernians."

Chaos

Postby McNernia » Sun Mar 30, 2014 6:41 pm

"I firmly belive....." Pain spread up the Governors body, McKellon toppled forward, he wore body armor, meant to stop pistol caliber rounds was worn under his dress uniform, there were ribs shattered. The assassin would be struck with a LA5 Shotgun firing a taser round non lethal but would hurt like the dickens. The lines of riot police surrounded the Governor, he gasped out the order.

"Stand fast. And someone get me a fucking medic...hackk...."

The medic came and checked the governor, "We got to bloody get him to the hospital."

The governor was taken away on the stretcher, the riot officers stood facing the crowd still, the fire arms officers were quiet and tense, instincts were screaming to blast away the mob of Damocleans. The men none the less remembered their commanders order. Stand fast, and that they did, the looked at the mob with hate. The commander of the Riot unit looked at the retreating ambulance. He came out in front of the line of riot officers.

"We did not shoot that man...we would like to know who put shots into the governor...give us that corpse is it?"

The angry crowd

Postby Damoclea » Mon Mar 31, 2014 1:48 pm

There was absolute pandemonium now in the crowd, which had not really been a mob at all, just a throng of angry citizens determined to speak their mind. Now, however, there was real outrage, as the riot police appeared to have fired on and killed Father Benedict. He lay mortally wounded, his life force departing his body with his blood, speaking weakly the simple Greek chant...kyrie eleison, Christou eleison....Lord, have mercy, Christ have mercy....

As for the Governor, well, he was the author of their troubles. Expecting the Damocleans to mourn him was rather presumptuous. They were too angry about the priest's death to spare much thought for a wounded Governor that many of them would like to hang themselves. If the priest and the boy had not been shot, too, perhaps some might have felt some guilt or panic, but anger fed upon itself and also fed the hostility of what was increasingly turning into a lynch mob. Any feelings of anxiety, fear, guilt, etc. were subsumed by the adrenaline, the fury, and a growing hunger for vengeance. The throng were out for McNernian blood.

There were also those further back who thought that the McNernians had fired into the front rows in general, directly at the throng itself. This both terrified them, as there was little that they could do about those in front of them, and little they could do to get away...and it also infuriated them, and their adrenaline began pumping, just adding to the outrage and hostility.

There was no mercy now...not with an angry collection of disgruntled citizens, and now the riot police demanding to see and desecrate the body of a slain young Damoclean street urchin. That was going too far. Whatever their dubious moral code, Damocleans had always been fiercely protective of the very young and the very old, at least of their own. This was why the Cult of Violet had provoked such a backlash in the days of Lycaon, and why now the Damocleans began to hurl rocks and Molotov cocktails at the riot police.

A few even fired off some rounds of actual pistols and shotguns at the riot police....live ammo inside them. The crowd now pressed toward the police, its numbers swelling in outrage over the McNernians' latest efforts. The idea that the Mickeys had slain a priest of any religion, and then sought to harm a child.....as if he could be to blame for what happened to the governor.....it was an anathema.

And indeed, another man stood among them and pronounced such. He was the deacon Lysias, assistant to Benedict. And now, he declared the McNernians damned in the sight of God and His Church.

"I pronounce you anathema maranatha, cursed and damned to the fires of Hell until the coming of Christ! Then the Lord and His Christ will judge you on that last day!"

The rest of the crowd didn't care much about Heaven or Hell, only that the Mickeys had been cursed by a cleric, a position presumed to have magical power just like the shaman-priests had. With at least one god against them, the Damocleans might have a chance, and so they rushed headlong into the riot police ranks, bearing down with the sheer weight of their numbers.

What would come now?

Asklepion, Southern Damoclea
"Fire"

A smirk; on a dead child, many would assume he died so fast that his facial expression was frozen forever. However, this child, Bolt, was not a normal slain boy. His smirk was the feeling of joy he got for succeeding in causing the end of world; the accomplishment of his mission. He was almost positive he killed the Governor and had even hit his original target the priest; assuming the best, he killed both and maybe hit some more people. He has not aimed to hit the priest but his killing of the priest however achieved the end goal anyways and he was now satisfied of his work. "I don't care that I murdered a priest or a government official. If god is pissed at me then let him be; at least he'll feel something towards me now for the first time in my life. Fuck god and his messed up world!" were the thoughts swimming inside his head, as stomping and trampling happened all around him.

The coming of a riot and violent resistance grew all around the boy. Still playing dead; protesters turned holy warriors assaulted the police just feet ahead of his fake dead corpse. He had a sudden tug at his shoulders and his arms being flung up. He was being dragged by the arms back towards the rear of the protest line -- protesters trying to save the boy or protect the body more than likely from the McNernians. He felt himself being being laid down softly; "Doctor!!! We need a doctor!" he heard being hollered next to him. The man who had dragged him now got up and ran off; back to the fight or to find a medic himself, who knows. Bolt, like his codename, opened his eyes and bolted up. He took a look from side to side; no one was paying attention to him -- crowds and crowds of angry yelling rioters, shots being fired, and clashing. They were more concerned with getting revenge rather than helping a murdered child -- typical of Damocleans. He got up nonchalantly and began to walk off the scene like nothing had happened. He didn't notice but he stepped on his own gun he had chucked away in the confusion, the amazing luck and coincidence; he took one glance down and noticed his mask's string had gotten caught on the gun too, so it was there too. He reached down and took the gun and placed it back in his deep frontal pocket; he grabbed the mask and placed it on and adjusted his hair above it. He looked up into the sky and smiled under his mask; "What fortune I'm having tonight." he said to himself and continued on his way, hood up and still covered in his own fake blood. He walked passed many who ran past to join the fight; some stopped and looked at the blood covered figure while others continued moving. Some who stopped continued on, angered that a child was shot -- others tried to stop the boy to help, they were ignored as he made it to his preplanned escape point. He would change, clean up, and make confusing loops around before returning to his safe house. He was beginning to like his job more and more; darkness and crowds being his best friends.

At the same time, a few Damocleans stood out from the gathered protesters. Judicial Front members who had been in the crowd as part of their mission to protests. They were filming closeup to what had happened; random gunshots -- the priest killed -- a dead child. They missions was to catch the moment and report the violence that was predicted to happen. Violence began erupting like a pissed off volcano. It got hot and heavy as angry men and women began assaulting the police; using random weapons, bare hands, and even small arms were making it to the fight -- this would become an urban warfare scene soon enough. With their missions complete; the select few who were taping retreated to their safe houses -- of course using standard evasion methods to lose tails and return secretly. Their next job was getting this footage, and the message it brought, onto the internet for all to see. Even if cyber experts attacked the footage; the vast amounts of locations it would be dumped on, the copies mailed to various sources, and various means of protecting sources -- this video will survive some way, some how. What was also the next step was making copies on CD's; copies would be sent all over Southern Damoclea, Damoclea Major, and anywhere else willing. Copies are sent to news stations, information moles, truth speakers, and various others who would spread the message as much as possible. This story would spread one way or another; nothing can stop the flu once it spreads.

Southern Damoclea

The beginning of violence is the first gunshot heard around Southern Damoclea. With the new escalations, Judicial Front men quickly began driving arms and ammunition stored in safe houses all over the city of Asklepion to the growing front. They literally handed out cases and cases of ammunition, guns, and melee weapons for now angry protester recruits to use; shields stolen from police and donated generously by Judges all over the zone also made their way to the front. Asklepion isn't the only place soon to escalate either. New orders made were to furiously riot and protest any McNernian location of interest; protesters were even ordered to assault the hospital location once found where the Governor was staying. Armories and other stashes were to be raided and the contents donated to Judicial Front. The cross border smuggling and port smuggling of weapons began in full swing, among other supplies. It goes without saying the escalation in other cities and areas around Southern Damoclea will rise to proportions that are out of control soon. Asklepion screams for liberty and McNernia to leave, so the rest will follow shortly. Protest gone out of control will soon turn to full scale resistance.

Crackdown and WAR

Postby McNernia » Tue Apr 01, 2014 11:00 am

Asklepion
First Day of the War

The Molotov struck the commander, it was the signal for the mob to charge evidently. More Molotov cocktails flew in as well as stones, the man screamed as the gasoline licked at his faitgues, a water cannon sprayed out into the crowds of onrushing protestors as the Riot Police sent forward a team of men to recover the Commander as he was badly burned. A quick zap with a fire extinguisher and then he was dragged away. That was the first kill, a sheel of shields was formed, the men wore body armor to protect against the bullets that were flying at them. They withdrew

Firearms officers stepped out and took aim, firing into the crowd, picking off the people that were holding guns or wounding those who charged, shots echoed throughout the city as the patrols of soldiers and police came under attack by enraged natives, the one who took command from the Governor was Admiral David Peltwright, the Vice Admiral ordered more Army and Marine troops onto the streets, the green-grey fatigued soldiers were highly trained and then skilled in urban warfare, they went into action against the cells of the Resistance, the sound of gunfire would echo long into the night.

The guards at the hospital sounded the alarm and flash-bangs were deployed. The sound of a helicopter and another soon echoed overhead, the Molior air ambulance had armaments but these were not used. The soldiers at the hospital fired CS gas into the crowd, an LRAD equipped vehicle was driven down a street and targeted the assaulting mobs. The sounds were enough to shatter peoples eardrums, that and flashbangs would take the winds out of the sails of any sort of mob, it was chaos, the teargas and such caused serious trouble. The helicopter came in, the Governor was evacuated and then another moilior took off the troops.

The mob when they got into the hospitals upper levels would be hit with a dangerous surprise, a cliche of wars past, the helicopter lifted off with the squad on board, there were tripwires in the lower levels, frag grenades. They would get a nasty surprise.

The countryside would soon be swarming with helicopters that stood vigil looking at the cars, any that seem suspect would be stopped or destroyed. To get that fate the vehicle would have to run from a helicopter.

Southern Damoclea In Flames; Riots, Murders, Bombings.
April 1, 2014

*News Alert*

Southern Damoclea, McNernian zone of occupation, is in flames tonight at the report of mass protests and now riots being reported. Reports on the ground say that the initial protests, which were planned among protesters, was initially fueled by complaints against the McNernian occupation authority; protesters angry about such things as discriminatory actions, assault on rights and degrading justice system, and the lack of improvement to living standards. Sources on the ground state that the protest became violent when a member of the protest unity, Father Benedict, a christian and local community leader, was shot and killed by McNernian police security forces. The same sources also stated that McNernian security forces shot and killed a small child as well; the security forces then demanded the body of the young boy be handed over. Protests and violence are still ongoing throughout the capital and is spreading throughout the zone as this headline breaks.

Image
(The hospital blaze can be spotted in this picture miles away.)
Reported mass movement of McNernian troops from ground sources have been coming in all night. Video and testimonies report military personnel, military vehicles, and frequent helicopter fights (suspected of being attack helicopters) happening all over the capital and now spreading to other parts of the occupation zone. Protesters are claiming that security forces are now firing on protesters; reports of up to ten to thirty have already been killed in the protests in Asklepion -- protesters claim the number reaches fifty or more.

The biggest topic tonight on this story, however, is a burning hospital within the capital. Asklepeia General is a newer built hospital in the capital, treating a multitude of patients and injured for a year now. Local residents report large explosions from the bottom levels of the hospital hours ago, of which ignited a massive blaze throughout the building -- the blaze has since then spread to the top floor. Protesters however tell a story that claims McNernians bombed the hospital. Protesters who had followed the Governor's convoy of retreat to the hospital had entered the building in the heap of a mess in the face of injuries and illnesses as the riots swung full swing. Surviving protesters and residents claim bombs set up as traps were set up all over the bottom floors, which remained undiscovered until too late; all of which exploded, killing immediate persons in blast areas and wounding much more with shrapnel and burns. Experts in Royal News believe the blaze started from the traps' after affects; explosions destroying O2 and various other flammable material that ignited furiously and flame spread out of control immediately. At this time, the blaze is reported to have reached the roof and the roof has since collapsed in many places. Asklepeia treats and staffs over nine-hundred people -- most of which are believed to be dead at this time. Experts believe the majority of the patients, staff, and citizens died because of being trapped inside the building by the blaze which burned upwards -- bringing flames and smoke to the sick and trapped who were forced to retreat upwards, those who could at least. Survivors and residents claim there are only several to two dozen who barely escaped, most of which are protesters that managed to escape traps and wounded staff on the first floor that were helped out in time.

McNernian authorities could not be reached at this time. Sources of national protesters, Judicial Front, and other prominent Damoclean leaders promise "justice" against the atrocities committed; "blood in the streets." and "seeing red" were also said. Lucas Nacht, the TECT Foreign Affairs Minister, commented immediately stating: "McNernia has made a serious blunder it must correct immediately if it is to survive in Southern Damoclea, let alone retain face value. If McNernians wish to improve things, take note of its zone's neighbors; turn over control to the civilians. TECT condemns the reported violence, shooting of peaceful protesters, the hospital bombing, and urges for a peaceful solution between protesters and the McNernian occupation authority." Protesters have also repeatedly stated over and over again that "Southern Damoclea isn't McNernian soil; it's not a colony of McNernia; McNernia needs to leave." There were also reports that the military governor was also hit by gunfire, but reports could not be verified.

Code: Select all
MINISTRY OF DEFENSE PRESS RELEASE
PRIORITY:IMMEDIATE

At 1700 Hours the Ministry of Defense received a call from the Office of the Military Governor of the Occupation Zone of Damoclea. The Judicial Front had engaged in protest, when Governor McKellon attempted to engage the demonstrators in negation when an assassin fired upon him and the cleric who was leading. The Public Order officers of the Royal Constabulary that were deployed subdued the assassin with less lethal weaponry and asked to see the assassin. Upon the refusal of the request by the JF, the Constabulary officers did not engage, the fact that the Police wished to engage in investigation of the death of the Cleric and the examination of the assassin and his medical treatment would be the first steps in that.

At least 30 Insurgents are reported dead and 10 Security Forces members.

Resistance hardens.....

Postby Damoclea » Thu Apr 03, 2014 11:20 am

The biggest problem for the McNernians now became evident: they couldn't trust anyone. Their Damoclean civil servants leaked documents to the press and to the Judicial Front. Many of them went on strike, refusing to work until some sort of reckoning or accounting had been made for the murder of Father Benedict and the young boy, whose description as "the assassin of the Governor" incensed those who believed it to be a false and baseless charge.

Much of the government in Damoclea was now in a position where it would either shut down or have to be run entirely by the McNernians themselves. The Damocleans refused to co-operate with it. The police were among these, going over to the rebels in many cases and actively patrolling areas on their behalf, even collecting tolls for the Judicial Front. The McNernians were now in the ugly position of occupying a nation without any local sympathizers or collaborators.

Even those who did not actively resist often found ways to inflict revenge. The sullen silence. The laxatives in food and drink. The local prostitutes who would smother their johns with pillows. The car bombs that exploded either in the Mickeys' cars or just near them, close enough to cause an explosion with so much gasoline nearby. The barbed wire that appeared everywhere in many cases. The restauranteurs who refused to serve McNernians in their establishments. The Damoclean flags popping up everywhere, with the words "Justice For All" deliberately visible along with the Damoclean bear. The blog posts that denounced the McNernians as brutal and negligent occupiers who sought to annex southern Damoclea and violate the occupation agreement. The Damocleans who walked naked, wearing the words "Justice For All" in body paint...or the national colors in body paint as well.

Strikes occurred in every city, town, and village. The new farmers refused to grow anything but food crops, no cash crops at all, lest the McNernians make some revenue off them. Taxi drivers stayed idle, bus drivers, too. Factory workers struck and picketed, factory managers and owners oddly standing beside them in solidarity. This was about Damoclea for the Damocleans, after all. The economic damage could be undone later, though not without cost. In the meantime, they meant to deny revenue to the Mickeys and make the whole place unproductive. They would survive as they always did, but often underground in the black and gray markets. They wanted to make this experience as unpleasant for the McNernians as possible.

And now, everywhere, without warning, snipers began surfacing, targeting McNernian police and troops wherever possible. Molotov cocktails were hurled out of nowhere. Damoclean police often turned over weapons and gear, in addition to what was supplied by the Commoners, and this resulted in tear gas in areas where the McNernians were found to be concentrated, often without any warning or indication that anything was amiss. Damoclean inns proved to have snakes, scorpions, and spiders, especially the infamous Damoclean red spider, with a venom twice as strong as a black widow's, at least to humans. Rabid dogs, cats, and rodents, especially bats, were let loose as well, in the hope that they would attack McNernians. Bed pillows and comforters often turned out to have communicable diseases for which the Damocleans and other Pythonians had immunities, but no outsiders would.

Gangs of Damocleans would surround isolated McNernians, set upon them with truncheons, and force castor oil down their throats. Then they would rob them blind and leave them hog-tied for their comrades to find, often with their pants down at their ankles. Yet there was little or no sexual assault. The orders had come down from the Judicial Front leadership: do not rape. They wanted to make a point that the Damocleans were changing as a people, no longer given to such things. This was not about thuggery and banditry, after all. It was about resistance....and resistance would continue, until the McNernians learned to either rule better or withdraw from Damoclea altogether.

Worse still, the authorities in Xanthisea, namely Admiral Aristocles and General Feldman, often co-operated with the Judicial Front, allowed them to operate from their territory, gave them safe haven when pursued by McNernians. They also permitted Commoners to operate from there. They allowed smuggling of arms through their territory as well. Now arms came in from the Malacanosian, Edomite, and Xanthisean territories, smuggled with the full consent of the local authorities, destined for Southern Damoclea and the hands of the Judicial Front and related organizations, such as the Damoclean Student Committee For Resistance and the Christian Democratic Party of Southern Damoclea.

In fact, Christianity was on the rise, as many people became convinced that the Christian clergy were on their side. Priests and ministers of several denominations would thunder indignant sermons against the McNernians and their "unrighteous decrees". Thousands flocked to be baptized into the various churches. That was another reason why rape rates had dramatically dropped, even amid the resistance. Priests would often perform marriages on the Edomite side of the border, at which point the new couples would cross back over into the McNernian side, married without need for recourse to the non-existent registrars in Southern Damoclea.

On top of which, the McNernian aircraft, especially helicopters, were now under regular assault from the ground by various resistance units armed with Grom hand-held surface-to-air missiles and even RPGs. Also, many thousands of Damocleans surrounded the site of the hospital and cordoned off the ruins, setting it up as an ad hoc memorial to the crimes of the McNernians, which stirred up the passions of the populace even further. They also dug in and found locations to ambush any McNernians who tried to stop or end the use of that site. This incident continued to outrage the Damocleans, after all. They were not ready to forgive or forget any time soon.

The general attitude was that Edomite, Imperial, and Malacanosian rule was fine, as it benefited the people in their zones, the same with the Xanthisean Free Zone. These people were seen as friends of the Damoclean people, whatever the past enmities. It was the McNernians who had angered the Damoclean masses and whom they blamed for all of their recent troubles, due to such a long period of misrule.

The Mickeys in southern Damoclea would need hang on tight, for they were in for a bumpy ride.

Sorry for such a short post. Im not inspired right now and I felt that this should be out for Damoclea to use for their next post.

Southern Damoclea was seeing red; a blood filled red that had not been seen in a long time. More and more average citizens became aware of recent news and grew outrage; first oppression then murder -- what was next? Damocleans of everyday origin may be doing their parts -- economically shutting the country down and abusing the McNernians where ever and when ever -- but that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Angry, violent, and vengeful citizens took up arms. Whether it was their family's weapon or one they stole -- weapons donated or weapons raided and plundered. Damocleans were beginning to take up arms against the McNernians finally. Asklepion was not only burning but it was the center of the start of war; snipers, gunmen, and more began flooding the city -- those who were already there have put up defiant battle lines against the McNernians. The city was on the brink of becoming the first battlefield of the war, and indeed it shall be. At the end of the day; Asklepion will be Damoclean once more -- peacefully or by force.

Southern Damoclea, Undisclosed Location

Flame, who had been in good spirits for a while now, was looking over the latest crates to be delivered. They had been easily shipped in from Xanthisea by boat; a Commoner smuggling front, no relations or links towards the government. Flame unlocked the hatches of the large crate before him in reach; it opened to reveal neatly stacked AK-110's, numerous ammo boxes, and their numerous equipment sets -- modular parts and other basic weapon equipment. It was the first of many crates before Flame and the Damocleans before him; some contained only ammo, others the weapons, and more were filled with special 'toys'. Among these toys were Grom missile systems and a good deal of ammo to go with it. Just feet away were the tools and equipment for S-75 Dvina sites; missiles, radars, and all. The smuggling operation was going off better than expected it seemed to Flame; now all that was left was to teach the locals how to use their new toys.

An Army Marches on Its Stomach
-Napoleon Bonaparte

The situation in the city was something close to sheer chaos, the Governor had been evacuated to the Air Base and that was secured by Army units and units of the RAF Regiment. Constabulary Interior troops deployed to contain the strikes, this was hurting the McNernians, the violence meant that aid could not be brought in and then Damoclea could not be brought forward into the modern age. The ambush of off duty soldiers was a thing that was to be expected for some of the older NCOs it brought back memories of the 80s in North Erin, the local women were inclined to fuck and shank, or just get your pants down and shank ya. And cut ya bollocks off.

Needless to say the troops on the ground were professionals, patrols were mounted in vehicles and on foot, a curfew was enforced from sundown to sun up. Out after dark you would wind up in the clink for the crime of violation of curfew, it was army and Constabulary on patrol since the Damocleans could not be trusted apparently. Army and MRC guards at the border kept a note of who was crossing and why. The marriages were taken down in a special registry of the Customs Service. The flying in of civil servants from other parts of the empire to help administer the territory was something intimated with hesitance. Minor Bureaucrats and other administrators.

Those who were nude were arrested as well and placed on a watch list, the posters would be joined by a McNernian counterpunch, flags were left up, fine let the Dammies have that. But another flag was flown, a coat of arms of a bear rampanant holding a sowrd in a silver chief 3 reds lions holding swords wearing crowns. This was a blue ensign a poster explained the business.

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

-It is the firm intention of the Crown of McNernia to establish a independent state in the McNernian Occupation Zone

-The apparent integration of the Malacanoi zone into the Malacanoi state would indicate that would be an acceptable practice.

Colonies of the McNernian Empire Enjoy:
-Right to draft a charter of government
-High Commissions with the Colonial and Dominion Affairs Ministry
-Right to conclude regional trade deals with Crown and government permission

-Dominions are fully independent states that can conclude treaties of trade with other powers, His Majesty must review declarations of war or a Governor-General as HRM Representative.

It is the Duty of Dominions and Colonies to provide troops to the Empire upon request or upon the declaration of need by the Ministry of Defense in Griffindon. If the Dominion House of Commons and Senate both disapprove of the request then the Dominion need not provide troops.

One must go from Colony to Dominion, and that is done at the discretion of parliament if the colony is loyal, Damoclea is not loyal. Therefore it cannot have independance. Sooner or later once the conditions of loyalty and stability can be met then the Crown will grant independence.

Steps to Independence and Reunification:
-Lay down of arms by the Judicial Front

-McNernian Forces granting of Amnesty

-Formation of Damoclean Government

-Mcnernian Forces train Damoclean Law Enforcement and Defense Forces

-Referendum on Union with the rest of Damoclea can then be held.

If you have questions please contact the Governors

The MRC and Police volunteers brought in due to the Compromised nature of the sad joke of a Damoclean police Service that had been set up in the end. The veteran Norsex officers had a reputation for being tough on patrol along with the MRC and Army men who had served in Norsex were a bit taken aback by how the people were all basically sullen and resistive, attmepts were made to get them on the good side of the government. But that was pretty ill fated.

Urban warfare was a thing familiar to the McNernians, fighting in the streets required fast legs and a sharp eye, a car bomb was to be expected with the enemy was all around you. The patrols going out at night fought on equal terms with the insurgents and then again the possession of NVG by the Army and Constabulary and the Police Field Operations Groups that volunteered to serve in Damoclea. The gun battles were fierce and the foe put up a good fight, the McNernian soldier knew war and knew it well.

The countryside was not placed under lock down but drones circled in the sky over the border country, the insurgents in the city had been wielding weapons that could not have been in the Damoclean Armories and some were Police G-36 rifles given to the insurgents. Then others were foreign weapons of a different nature. Drones looked for vehicles not going through the established check points where Lyran wolfhounds would sniff out the cars and people. Customs officers were always vigilant.

The Royal Air Force reported that MANPADS were readily used apparently against patrolling fighter aircraft and drones and helicopters when the Army and Constabular and Police went on raids, the raiding force would move quickly hugging close to the ground with Reaver gunships escorting the attacking moliors. The village would be surrounded and the security forces would move in, reconissance patrols were mounted out of fire-bases in the rural areas, the soldiers gave food from their rations to the local civilians but then again they did not trust them.

All those who attacked McNernian on or off duty officials were arrested and detained, they were not heard from. No one would know where they were taken or what happened. If they enquired at the Constabulary or Army posts it was. Taken to a detention center. I am not authorized to say much. The charge, assault of civil servants and or breach of the peace.

THE FINEBERG TIMES

CITY FINAL SATURDAY APRIL 05, 2014

ImageEdenists Arrested by McNernian Police!

ASKLEPION, McNernian Occupied Damoclea- McNernian Police arrested hundreds of people protesting the McNernian occupation of Southern Damoclea, protesting naked, wearing the words "Justice For All" in body paint or the Damoclean national colors painted on their bodies.

Edenism as well as Christianity is on the rise in much of Damclea, but according to activists is more due to the mercy, generosity and kindness of the New Edomite occupation, the fair and firm hand of General Adam Nicanor, than to the McNernians, who seem to have found ways to offend yet more people over the last year.

Organizers estimated 1,000 people protested and said several hundred agreed to risk arrest by refusing to leave the sidewalk in front of the Governor’s residence.

"If they want us to stop being angry, they’d better set a timetable for leaving this occupation zone,” said one masked but nude protestor, shaking a sign reading “Justice Now!”

“It is shocking to see a supposedly civilized nation using force of arms to shut down lawful protest and political process,” said a representative from the Undersecretariat for Pythonian Affairs. “Intervention in the form of offered mediation is on the table, but it may have gone too far for that. McNernian opposition to our own government makes proceeding with that difficult.”

“Our future is on the line, our lives are on the line. If they have any sense of humanity, they’ll let this people go!” proclaimed one Edenist priest, making the sign of the cross. “It is written: the judgements of the LORD are altogether righteous.”

The Interim Government in Fineberg has apparently been ‘deluged’ with letters and protests that have begun gathering outside the McNernian embassy. There are voices raised in question as to what the Interim Government intends to do about the mistreatment of fellow Edenists abroad.

OOC:New Edom nice choice with the Austrailian Police
Times of Griffindon
Is Damoclea Really Worth It?
Sunday April 16 2014

Griffindon- The political situation in McNernia over the past few years has not been very good, we elected Brian Tyler on the promise of stability and now we have had wars alongside the New Edomites and then we turn on them due to pressure in Parliament and open relations with the Norvenians. But still the Edenist way persists, the massacre of McNernian Edenists has been investigated and the discovery of Anarcho-Syndicalist symbology was a clear sign to the Security Forces that the Anarchist movement spawned in New Edom is not dead yet. The Edenist movement has been considered "Politicall Suspect" in the words of a Ministry of the Interior spokeswoman. The fact that it is on the rise in Damoclea would indicate the lack of authority of the McNernian Military Government or the infiltration of New Edomite agents.

The justification of the colonization process of the Occupation Zone comes from the appearent decision of the Malacanoi to engage in the process of creating a Damoclean province within their country. "The intentions of the Empire cnanot go forward without the laying down of arms by the DJF", Damoclean Judicial Front in the words of Admiral David Peltwright the new Military Governor after McKellons resignation due to his injuries, he insists. The McNernian Empire intends to leave, we would like Damoclea to be more peaceable so we have Security Forces there. If the violence ceases we can bring McKellon in to negotiate. Edenism is a sign of the potential for New Edomite Imperialism.

Edenists arrested in Damoclea would be asked the following.

Name

Date of Birth

Gender

Age

Occupation

Place of origin

Reason for coming to Damoclea

Religion

Martial Status

The usual questions, then they would be locked in cells, they would be fed and then a day later they would be loaded into trucks under guard and driven to the Air Base and from there loaded into a C-10 minatoaur and from their they would be taken to Griffindon and repatriated to the New Edomite embassy.

After a review of the situation and the reparation of Edenists to you, as refugees we do belive that we owe the Allied States an apology, the Indefinite Sanctions Suspension Act is law and all sanctions are lifted none the less the trade negotiations are still suspended, pending your withdraw from Gloria Regis and the stigma surrounding the whole Elwe but in light of popular will demanding a drawdown on Damoclea we are willing to go through the Allied States to negotiate.

Southern Damoclea

The urban jungle was no different from the forests in Damoclea and in various other countries. It had large, tall, structures, high ground, dense low grounds, and life adapted to these jungles. But instead of a small monkey jumping from tree to tree, Damocleans would be scurrying from building to building using constructs, tunnels, rooftops, and tunnels. Bridges and high structures were utilized in any way possible -- be it destroying them to eliminate access or arming them with weapons or bombs to destroy them along with enemy soldiers. Instead of trees and rolling hills and grasslands; this jungle was made up of tall and short buildings, sewage tunnels and subway tunnels, and open streets. The urban jungle constricted not only your sight as an attacker but it also made it hard to operate as you'd like; constricting your movements and forcing you to be aware of your environment.

The Damocleans had two things running for them in this new insurgent war. They had motivation that outstretched any physical boundary; their dream of a self ruling Damoclea and liberation from McNernia's oppression was enough to motivate countless Damocleans to take up arms. And, in the case of the new battlefield Asklepion; fighters and locals knew this city and their country like the back of their hands. You could move to Asklepion and stay for ten years and not know more than the natives who grew up, fought, and lived in the city and surrounding country. The streets, subways, sewers, and even many of the buildings were basic first hand knowledge to most Damocleans -- especially those who were born and grew up in the city. Even those who did not grow up in the city had a good understanding of the city thanks to travels to Asklepion and knowing people from Asklepion. It was without a doubt that Damocleans held the home field advantage thanks to their local knowledge of the land and city's many features -- features that don't even appear on maps or guides. Regardless of where these Damocleans were born and raised -- they now gathered in Asklepion for one reason along: Liberation.

The beginning of the war meant the beginning of the battle of Asklepion. Though many can say the battle truly began with the protests held earlier. Its seat in the zone was not only strategically important as a target -- its political and cultural importance was exceedingly important to both sides. Under the cover of night, and even during the day when it was safe and clear; fighters flooded the city in droves. They joined many locals who had already began the fight with McNernians; snipers taking shots and bombings occurring on a near daily basis. They, along with supplies, flowed in like a lush river with the skills of smugglers and confusion under the current situation in the capital. Leave it to Damocleans to make it unsafe for anyone not Damoclean. Smoke and distant gunshots made up the distant skies; it was surprising how fast Asklepion turned into a real shithole.

With McNernia virtually naming Southern Damoclea's justice system -- from the local cop to high positioned Damocleans, the Judicial Front-- they had isolated the Damocleans from their own governance and removed what was left of their self rule. How it was ruled, what was said, and how it was protected -- it now belonged to McNernia at the point of a guns and bayonets. McNernia had instead of allowing Damocleans to form a government, replaced that idea with a new method of occupation -- one that is well known around the world. By flying in more troops, more McNernians, and foreigners to rule over Damocleans as if they were disobeying the 'master's' wishes; McNernia had affectedly isolated the Damocleans from any hope of self rule or a future state under their system. The new proclamation demanding Damocleans granting amnesty for McNernians, allowing them to 'train' them in policing and self defense, and for the only form of defense to surrender (Judicial Front) was a slap in the face; proclaiming Damoclea can vote to reunite and earn self rule if they act like good little slave dogs was spit in the face. But where protest and talk had failed, force would now be used -- there was no choice anymore. If McNernia thinks Damoclea will become a good little sheep dog -- they have another thing coming.

Asklepion, Southern Damoclea

Hermes was a busy man these days in Southern Damoclea. His main duty was to head the recruitment campaign had been side tracked as the mission had progressed. His role evolved so fast that he had to leave it to Judicial front commanders to handle the process now; they were more than ready to handle the duty of recruiting their own forces. They had to be since the Judicial Front was being growing more and more by each day. It was like a cultural phenomenon had invaded and put the Judicial Front in the leadership seat of Damoclea for Damoclea. Ranks were being flooded with recruits trying to join; whether they were Edenists trying to find protection from McNernians, who were trying to kidnap them and take them to McNernia for who knows why; angered everyday citizens who were tired of the McNernians bullshit; even the recent hospital being bombed and burned down became a motivational center point, focusing on justice, Damocleans wanted justice for the murder civilians and the Priest who as assassinated. Groups of various origins had even began to emerge as loyal allies in the face of a McNernian oppressive force. Regardless of where they came from and why, their goal was the same: Liberate Southern Damoclea.

Hermes was sitting in a hollowed out building in the city. He was on the eleventh floor of some random building that had been abandoned since the day before the protests began; the people were smart enough to leave before things got hairy in the city. He sat at a table with others who had been gathered in the city; senior commanders of the forces who had been moved into the city and those who were already inside. A map of the city and its suburbs was laid out on the table for all to see; lines and various objects used as indicators were all over the map, displaying important locations and locations of their forces and other assets. They had the city surrounded from the inside out. Judicial Front was so spread out and organized throughout the city that it could be said that they had effectively seized the city from under the McNernians noses; leave it to the natives to blend in and use the environment to hide throughout the city. "Utilizing the home terrain is important here." Hermes was already speaking, the war council in full swing.

"The city is an easy target because Damocleans enter and leave easily; with the protests being out of hand -- no one can keep track anymore since the fighting and protesting ignited. It's without saying too that Damocleans leaving and entering is natural. We've been able to slip in additional forces and supplies throughout the confusion and coming days to the protest. We have around twenty thousand heads as is I'd say, along with enough supplies to make this city a giant fortress. Not to mention the protesters and other fighters not aligned to anyone but Damoclea itself who're out there fighting as we speak. We already have control all over the city; the underground is ours and the jungle of buildings has become our playground. Publicly or not, this city is being occupied by us and the McNernians. Hopefully, after tonight and the coming days, this city will belong to Southern Damoclea."

"So we're taking the city finally? Well it's about fucking time!" said one of the younger Damocleans at the table; his hair cut short and his build was muscular. He was clearly an energetic youth looking for a fight and couldn't wait to lead his forces in battle against the McNernians; he didn't survive the hell that was the SIGS bootcamp from hell for nothing.

"Yes and no." Hermes responded. "The fact is that McNernia easily outguns here -- I wouldn't be surprised if they outnumbered us too; we simply do not posses an armored force or an air force. However; they may have more equipment and maybe even more soldiers at this point then we do, but that does not mean these shits have the advantage by any means. What is the single most important advantage a side has in an insurgent war? Disadvantage. Insurgents fight an insurgent war because they are on the side that faces disadvantages -- whether it be from not having enough tanks, planes, or the lack of either -- insurgents fight with brains instead of brawn. We are the same -- we are fighting using tactics, strategy, and the advantages we do have to beat our enemies. You have all been trained to be elite and are armed with reliable weapons of war -- that is something McNernians either share or don't share."

"So what do you presume we do? If we're not liberating the city then what the Hell are we here for?" the same young man asked.

"Simple." Hermes responded with a smile, then crossing out the capital. "This is an assault. We may or may not succeed in totally taking the capital at this point. McNernians are spread out throughout the city in an attempt to occupy it and are mostly held up in strategic points in the city, like the airport where their air force is based around here. Strategically, we are more sound then they are: we have no liabilities or areas to defend. On the other hand, they have bases and strategic targets they need to survive here; not only that, they try to hunt us while it is us who are truly the hunters. This is what we do starting tonight."

Hermes stood up to point around the map to use. "We're approaching this assault as insurgents. We aren't a rag tag militia force of idiots, no; we're highly trained and we're well armed too. We all know this city as well as the rats that run a muck in them; this is our home front. We utilize this information to the fullest capability possible; luring McNernians into traps, ambushing them, and escaping and regrouping using the tunnel systems above and below ground. In teams of fifteen, we'll set up in buildings all over the city and ambush patrols, checkpoints, and bring them to us. Once we've taken out the vehicles and did our damage we retreat through the monkey holes and sewers and other escape routes. Don't be heroes; suppress their infantry support and take out the vehicles -- the infantry can come second. Our initial targets for our hunters are patrols, checkpoints, and other small groupings of McNernian soldiers who are caught in the web of that group's area; anything smaller then a base that we've tracked down these past few weeks is a viable target for fireteams. Make sure some of your teams have machine gun variations and one or two carry the RPG-7's; the rest of you should use whatever is comfortable and affective for you to use on your AK-110's. Lastly for our hunters; use the IED's planted effectively and continue planting booby traps anywhere and everywhere. Groups that are laying in wait in their ambush zones wait patiently for McNernian forces to ambush; use the same methods as hunter groups. Lastly; I want to stress the importance of your forces to attack and retreat constantly -- none of you need to die or be captured, ambush, ambush, ambush. We're keeping the sky clear with MANPAD units all over the higher floors in the buildings and on rooftops -- aircraft can't escape if they want to hide in this city."

"Sir. What of my units? Our targets are the airport and bases right?" an older more respectful man asked; he could vary easily be in his early forties and already showed graying in his hair. His stern face has seen the fighting of the last war and his pledge to lead his men effectively tonight was so that they can end war in this land once and for all. "I want to be sure is all."

"Yes. Your fireteams are hitting the airport and anything with a runway in this city; any and all bases too. Your men are also going to hit bases of any kind in the city; whether they just be some barracks or a full scale military outpost outside the urban areas. Your first objective is to knock out the airport's runways; this can be done by hitting them with explosives, so use those mortars and RPG's accurately and you can shut down any plane activity if you coat the runway with blast holes and affective fire. After that; target hangers and other aircraft with whatever you got -- heavy machine gun, mortars, RPG's, whatever. Personnel and other structures come third. Have MANPAD units ready with you too in case they try to make a run for it or planes come in to land; use what I had told you about countermeasures of aircraft to your benefit -- heavy machine guns and other heavy ordinances can help if they got to many flares. Remember; you're only attacking the targets not taking them yet, so barrage, destroy, and run like shit. Repeat that. Also; use churches and other religious sites as mortar batteries. Those courtyards are good staging grounds throughout the city for them."

"Are there anymore questions? ... Good. The assault begins at midnight tonight. We stop at six a.m. and then start again at eight a.m. Give them no sleep."

Hermes and his SIGS comrades were confident in the coming battle. They had trained these people very well not only in how to conduct war but how to inflict some major damage. Urban warfare to them was like 'playing' soldier in the neighborhood they had grown up in -- only this game was not only real but was taken very seriously. Hermes had spent some time correcting the MANPADS units targeting; updating them on how to catch aircraft even if they are hugging the ground -- such as targeting in open areas only or using narrow pathways for aircraft. The new air defense grid was soon to being complete too; sites were already being rushed to being complete. Regardless; Hermes' concentration was the battle at hand. He taught these insurgents well in how to wage war; using the environment and buildings to their advantages -- hiding and gun points to ambush enemies. Snipers were not only accurate but knew the trade very well now; pinning down entire units trying to fire back. These aren't mere teens with guns; they treated their weapons like lovers and their motivation could never run dry. They don't blast out the window like cardboard figurines; they hid, shot, and skedaddled; and they were taught in the hellish boot camp they endured to be professional insurgent fighters.

The primary difference between the McNernians and Damocleans wasn't any form of training. It wasn't their race or culture. It wasn't even their end goals that made them entirely different. Although these differences are obvious; the motivation of each Damoclean and McNernian was monumentally different. McNernians wanted to oppress those who denied them of what they wanted; a colony to rule with false hopes of independence in the future if they bow and become slaves to the McNernians. They wanted a new puppet, a new source of supply and support -- they want a colony. Damocleans on the other hand wanted something else entirely. They want self rule. The Judicial Front and other Damocleans didn't fight because it was their nature; they didn't fight because they wanted the power to kick foreigners out. Damocleans want to be part of how they live their lives; they want self determination, not a puppet game designed to make them slaves to a country that has done nothing but invade and oppress. New Edom didn't oppress those who it occupies now nor did the other members of the occupation authority. Damocleans voiced and protested their hearts out but were met with nothing but lies and denies of privilege. They say when a rat is cornered in a pipe, it claws through the pipe to freedom; Damocleans will now claw their way to freedom through the strangle hold that McNernia refuses to let go of. Starting at midnight; a war of liberation, a revolution, will begin.

It is not clear what your government is apologizing for, since there appears to be little change in actual policy, therefore it must be admitted that your government's good will is regarded with some wariness.

However we are a Christian nation and willing to let bygones be bygones. However surely forgiveness is one thing, repentance and reconciliation another.

In light of this, we have the following proposals.
1. An announced withdrawal of McNernian forces from Southern Damoclea, to be replaced by New Edomite forces.
2. Discussion of a plan for the independence of Southern Damoclea to be undertaken by New Edomite officials with Damoclean representatives of that region of Southern Damoclea.
3. Mediation of cessation of hostilities and acts of sabotage by the Damoclean independence groups in Southern Damoclea.
4. Mediation of the relaxation of martial law by McNernian forces in Southern Damoclea.

Please advise if these terms are agreeable.

Southern Damoclea
Asklepion

Any Counter-Insurgent guidebook or manual or whatnot will tell you that you need to win the hearts and minds of the people. The McNernian Army had no sort of protocol to follow if the whole population was against you, except you make the enemy beg for mercy. The act of fighting an enemy on his home turf was something considered sducidal, this was not the urban hell of Terpischore it was something that was different, the people did not expect to be liberated by the McNernian Army, they expected the McNernians to oppress them, the average soldier was a quiet man, listening to his superiors and doing as he was told. The people of Damoclea would be of interest to the average soldier.

The soldiers had things on their side, networking, training, firepower, and a sense of brotherhood that came from hard training and long days. The soldiers of the McNernian Army were always out on patrol in the city, contacts with snipers were to be expected and with ambushes, the sound of gunfire was always present, soldiers went to sleep to it, the soldiers in the check points would spend time wondering what poor bastards were dealing with the Judicial Front and well the wrong end of a rifle in the hands of a McNernian infantry man was a thing that terrorists feared.

In the jungle of the city that the Damocleans forced the McNernians to fight in, the Constabulary and Army both handled themselves rather well, they gave a good accounting, the DJF was quite well trained and quite equipped judging by the fire the patrols received. The sound of helicopters was rarer as the MANPADS the insurgents used were quite dangerous, the use of Pseujonda and other light vehicles was necessary, these were used with heavier APCs that rolled in twos and threes through the streets on search and destroy missions. Occasionally a major sweep would be mounted through a operation familiar to people, armored vehicles would surround an area, infantry with more armor would enter and surround buildings and work to clear them. Helicopters were replaced with drones.

And what drones were they, the large Tritons that orbited high over head relaying the coordinates for insurgents to the command centers and out to the troops, the little M12 UAGV, Unmanned Airborne Gun Vehicle, a little drone that could be carried on a troopers back, it was armed with a MP7 and a camera. It could go up vertically,a solider could manipulate it from the terminal carriable on the back of your vest as a laptop. It could deal with a sniper or a MANPAD, there were were also UGCV, Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicles, they could roll into the dark subway tunnels and be dropped into the sewers, the soldiers respected them like companions, they had a bond, man and machine against a relentless foe.

The administration of Southern Damoclea and the City of Asklepion was a military thing and members of the Military-Civil Service, Civilians who were in military employment were used to run a lot of the Functions of the city, the volunteers of the Police services and Constabulary wore fatigues and armor just like those in regular military employment, the smugglers were combatted through the use of drones as usual the MRC swooping in on helicopters. The City was slowly being surrounded by troops, the outposts were on the city perimeter and at the airport, the idea was to start building the network through which a stranglehold would be carried out. All hands on deck, the insurgents must be stopped.

Countryside

The countryside was definitely a hotbed of insurgency, it was a standard sort of procedure to have the countryside locked down, the border was, two concentrations of Security Forces personnel existed, the border areas were home to a chain of fire bases that launched drones and sent out patrols, the border was fortified, land mines were a no-no, the barbed wire fences were a go, two sections of the material extended outwards from each base ,along with bits of road to patrol the border fences, the contacts with insurgents yielded foreign weapons, the AK series of rifles put the consideration forward that it could well be anyone, if a nation wanted to engage in destabilization operations then the AK could be given to insurgent movements, the finding of caches was rare though.

The Special Air Service was called upon to recce insurgent strongholds, the MNPLA had been Soviet trained and to a high degree, the DJF were not hoodlums out for a good time, they were damnably serious subversives, the KIPFA had been that way, the ERA as well, an alphabet soup of terror groups had been taken on and the SAS had smashed them all, their flags of revolution were taken as trophies for the mess hall, the sounds of the forest were a troopers best friend as the war heated up, the SAS were masters of ambush, the soldiers melted into the brush, watching and waiting, sometimes they would strike and when they did they left casings of 6.7mm Anemonian and insurgent corpses.

More conventional soldiers were out in the open, one or two day patrols to the SAS spending weeks at most in the brush. The armored force was broken up, some remained near the border and some in the city, most of them were on the border, it was units of tanks and ifvs posted to ensure that there were no New Edomite raids, there were artillery vehicles posted to engage the insurgents, the YrC9 was a terrifying weapon when it rained high explosive on insurgents in the forest and the field. Even the city was treated to a dose of heavy artillery, 120mm guns and mortars, the artillery was a rare occurance, but it was used and used without hesitation.

Air War

It was war even in the air, the traces of a radar here and their picked up by an AWACs orbiting over the area, it seemed like an Eastern Bloc pattern of system for an ADS. F-29s armed with anti-radtion missiles made low passes over the countryside, the radars were wisely turned off so as to not arouse the Super Vipers that were making the passes looking for them.

 Greetings

We are apologizing for the levying of sanctions. We realize that it was a rash and perhaps stupid decision that was rushed and quite rash in regards  to Gloria Regis. None the less HM Government shall not allow people to dicate the policy of this Government unless they be  a McNernian citizen or a Member of Parliament or Lord. The Proposals put forward to this government were debated in Parliament today and they were considered by the Colonial and Dominion and Foreign Affairs committees. And both committees have drafted something similar.

1.Ceasefire between HMAFM and DJF meditated via representatives of the Allied States.

2.Announcement of Withdraw by HMAFM.

3. Permanent Negotiations for a peace between McNernia and Damoclean movements.

4.McNernia-Edomite and Damoclean discussion about independence and formation of a Government.

5.Replacement of HMAFM in Southern Damoclea with a Joint command of Edomite and Lyscanian and Posidonian and Arbites and Malcanoi soldiers.

None the less there have been serious protests here in McNernia that have taken place outside of Parliament and the New Edomite embassy by Labor party members and members of the MNU, the McNernian Nationalist Union a far-right coalition.

The flash point of this whole affair was the murder of Farther Benedict and the rendering Comatose of Field Marshal Ian McKellon ,Military Governor who engaged with father Benedict when an assassin  presumably Damoclean fired shots from a submachine gun and killed Father Benedict and wounded the Governor. He was then apparently shot with a tazer round and was wearing something like a suicide vest because a bang sounded and he lay inert. No McNernian Royal Constabulary officer present discharged their weapons with lethal munitions.

When the commanding officer on scene attempted to request the handover of the subject to commence an investigation the mood changed and the crowd become openly hostile. And as such the Royal Constabulary was compelled to disperse them and armed subversives and opened fire on riot officers, LRADs and Water cannons were used.

We must also note the apparent annexation by the Malcanoi and the creation of a Damoclean Free State, the deployment by yourselves of Damoclean soldiers at your discretion for the protection of New Edomite interests.

 Yours

The whole occupation of Damoclea was done out of pride, people want this country to be respected and to be feared and such, to be a lion on the world stage, we know we are not that big. We have an empire, colonies and that would turn the Norvenians away, our people belive in freedom and speaking your mind and such. We belive in Monarchy and Capitalism and yet greed holds humans back from being greater. We sent people into space and to the moon, we have probes round Mars. That was in the 20th Century, the question is, "What do we do?" Some say restore the empire, some say no, some say we should get rid of the monarchy. The Empire is in confusion.

Mr. Prime Minister,

You need to make up your mind as the leader of your nation’s elected government. Do you want peace and friendship with New Edom? Do you want us to cooperate with you in Hutanjia? Or do you want constant strife? If your nation is a great empire, then it ought to act like one.

If you want friendship, there must be a full retraction of all embargoes, sanctions and an open discussion of at least the permission to have places of worship for Edenists which are protected by law in your country. Your government says it supports religious freedom, but then does not. Then when our government faces a genuine threat from Anarchist supporting political parties in Gloria Regis—your government sides with them, even though they assassinated a government official and barricaded the streets against the Army which had come to administer martial law—the same Army which did so without inflicting any civilian casualties or arresting anyone without a warrant following the Damoclean terrorist attacks. Several times you and your King have called for my resignation. What am I to make of your government’s political stance?

It frankly smells and looks of expediency.

I would like to have you consider what I have accomplished since taking power. I have established a universal health care system, rebuilt roads and infrastructure in provinces that were damaged by the 2nd Civil War, established a militia system on a national rather than tribal/religious basis, created the Cornellian Peacekeeping Organization, the Federation of Oil Developing Economies, established three overseas naval bases for the greater security of the Cornellian Empire Region, helped broker a peace between New Othman and Lazodiria, between Deadora/Gavinium Magnus/The Empire of Common Territories. Through my direct negotiations I established peace in Delvian States. I have conquered Damoclea with the help of your country, Lyscania and Arbites.

Yet you back Chancellor Griffiths, a man of mere bombast, who has no accomplishments under his belt. Mr. Prime Minister: I doubt your judgment. If you want friendship, what you must do should be clear in the message sent by my Foreign Ministry.

A joint command is unthinkable; it would create chaos. The situation is already chaotic. What is needed is a single command which will have the power to negotiate, secure and maintain. There is only one force in the Pythonian Region which is capable of this, which has the reputation and the ability, that is the New Edomite Expeditionary Force.

If we are agreed about the other points, I would like to suggest that this be presented to the belligerents as soon as possible, by a joint statement composed through our respective offices.

Sincerely,

A Declaration of the new Damoclea.

Postby Damoclea » Wed Apr 09, 2014 10:59 pm

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation of this land, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have abused, mistreated, misruled, and tyrannized the people of southern Damoclea.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have made and removed local administrations in their own interests, rather than those of the people of southern Damoclea.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have attempted to turn southern Damoclea into a colony instead of an occupation zone.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have failed to co-operate with the Federal Council and the Allied Occupational Authority.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have obstructed the course of justice.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have deprived of power the former government of the Judges, which ruled Damoclea prior to the rise of Communism.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have neglected to provide law and order, peace and prosperity, jobs, public works, and decent public services to the people of southern Damoclea.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia have persecuted Edenists, Judicialists, and others who dissent from their rule.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces of McNernia murdered a holy man, the priest Father Benedict, and framed a young lad for attempted murder.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces relied heavily on the unreconstructed Communist General Pisistratus and made him Deputy Governor, letting him and his cronies, the Ethnarchs, rule improperly and dishonestly, not to mention corruptly.

Whereas, during the course of their Occupation, the Government and Armed Forces have turned this zone into a prison state these days and butchered men, women, and children in the pursuit of their goals.

Let it henceforth be declared and understood that, as the sole legitimate representatives of the people of southern Damoclea, the Judicial Front is hereby installed as the sovereign and supreme political authority therein, to the exclusion of all others, especially the McNernian occupational government, and as of this day, 9 April, 2014, the state of South Damoclea is, and of right, ought to be, a free and independent state, that it is absolved from all allegiance to the McNernian Crown, and that all political connection between them and the Kingdom of McNernia is and ought to be totally dissolved.

For this cause, with a firm adherence to the principles of the new Christian faith which we, the leaders of South Damoclea have adopted, let it be known that we will fight, and if necessary, die, for God and Damoclea, under the standard of Christ Jesus. Therefore, let the new name of the Christian State of South Damoclea be known and recognized in all corners of the world, as a free, sovereign, independent, Christian commonwealth wherein the sole sovereign is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For this cause, we appeal to all and sundry to accept and recognize our lawful secession from the Kingdom of McNernia, henceforth and forever.

Justice For All!

Damoclea for the Damocleans!

Christ, not Man, is King!

The plot thickens

Postby Damoclea » Thu Apr 10, 2014 2:17 pm

The above pamphlet was deliberately kept under the radar, low-tech as much as possible, passed in Greek from one man to the next, one woman to the next, until it had been distributed to as many citizens as possible. It was clear that the Judicial Front now considered Damoclea, or at least the southern part, a sovereign state, an independent nation. It had unilaterally declared the independence of South Damoclea. This was a full-scale war of national liberation now.

Everywhere the McNernians turned, for every messenger they caught, another would slip by. The Damocleans had learned to rely on redundancy as a means of getting their messages through, and soon they just plain used decoys. The Judicial Front also went after any Damoclean who betrayed them, executing said person on the spot for treason and sending their eyes back to the McNernians as a way of saying that they could not spy with the eyes of blind men. Every kind of activity at this point was done under the radar, under as much cover and concealment as possible. The Damocleans waited for and spied on the McNernians to ambush them at every corner, to strangle them in their beds, to slit their throats in their sleep, to poison their food and drink, and to set yet more rabid dogs and other animals after them.

They also used contacts in the Edomite and Xanthisean Zones, plus the Commoners among them. It was a co-ordinated effort with all three governments, but they needed more support than that. To that end, messages were sent to the Imperium of Arbites, to Malacanos, to Tartarus, to Adiron, to New Macureus, to Old Macureus, to United Valik, to Exalted Draconia, to New Hydrenia, etc.

The message to the Imperium of Arbites went as follows:

To the eminent clergy of the Holy Curia of the Imperium of Arbites Materia,

We, the Judicial Front, whatever our religious differences with you, have reason to believe that we share a common cause against the menace that is McNernia. As you know, the McNernians are openly scheming with Norvenia in a plot against yourselves and the Edomites, while also keeping the boot heel of oppression down on our own necks.

They have yet to co-operate with the Allied Occupational Authority or the Federal Council. They for a long time retained a known and unreconstructed Communist, one General Pisistratus, as Deputy Governor and permitted him to handpick his Ethnarchs for the various towns and cities, not to mention other goons and cronies of his. They have denied true justice to the former southern zone, which is now the Christian State of South Damoclea. They have persecuted Edenists, and who knows if they might start persecuting Magi soon as well? Even while supposedly working with the Judges, they hamstrung us at every turn, so that in desperation, we have had no choice but to revolt.

While things are terrible for Damocleans here in the South under McNernian repression, we know that things are better for our countrymen in the East, West, and North. Therefore, we have no aims to upset the balance of power or to forcibly or rapidly recover those zones into a unified Damoclea again. Rather, we seek independence only for South Damoclea, as it has been for so long abused and mistreated by those who were only supposed to supervise the transition back to self-rule. You, along with the Edomites and Malacanoi, have all done a much better job of governing your zones, so we have no complaint with you, nor would we attempt to aid any insurgents that may or may not exist in your zones (frankly, we are not sure why you would even have such, if you did at all).

We understand that your three nations, New Edom, Arbites, and Malacanos have all rebuilt your zones almost from scratch, improving infrastructure, giving jobs to the urban poor, bringing modernization and civilization, law and order to your territories. You are to be commended for this. Nor do we have any issues with the government of the Free Zone of Xanthisea, nor with the Lyscanians in their treatment of the former Marxopolis, now Posidonis. Our issue is with McNernia, and McNernia alone.

Should you opt to recognize this regime and this state, perhaps even assist our cause, we would of course be inclined to deal with you as the lawful authority of your zone for however long you deem that occupation to be necessary. We would naturally seek to have formal diplomatic relations with both the Imperium, New Edom, and Malacanos, as well as Lyscania. We would formally accept the loss of Posidonis as permanent as well. There would be no revanchist moves to reclaim lost territory, whatsoever. Furthermore, we would naturally do a lot of business with FODE and its two members here in Pythonia. Suffice it to say that we would have no part in any embargoes and may be able to help you circumvent more than a few economic sanctions.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
The Judicial Front of the Christian State of South Damoclea

Damoclean missive to the Edomites

Postby Damoclea » Thu Apr 10, 2014 3:23 pm

To His Excellency, Brigadier-General Perrin Pahath-Moab:

General,

Allow us to be more forthright and direct than we have been with the Imperium, and frankly cut to the chase. Unlike with the Arbiters, we don't have to summarize things for you, our brother in Christ, as you know full well what is going on. You know how recalcitrant the McNernians have been about co-operating in all things Damoclean with the other occupying powers. You know full well how they have misgoverned this zone, including the persecution of Edenists and other Christians here.

By contrast, a South Damoclea under the rule of the Judicial Front, while it would have a close partnership with the Empire of Common Territories due to mutual interests, would also be inclined to have good trade and political relations with New Edom and the other occupying powers of Damoclea. It would also accept the status quo and not seek to rush any changes to it before the right time. FODE would be a regular source of fuels for us, we would expand trade in other ways, and we would naturally be open to co-operation in other matters of a political and military significance. In short, we would be a reliable friend and partner in the region. Can you say that of McNernia? I thought not.

Frankly, the McNernians are in violation of the occupational accord, anyway. Their rights as a occupying power should be revoked and South Damoclea should be returned to self-rule. We are far readier as a people to take on this responsibility, if for no other reason than we have developed a degree of national identity that doesn't quite exist elsewhere in Damoclea. Naturally, we still have some reconstruction to do, and it won't be easy, but at least we Judges have some notion of what needs to be done and will do it without any fuss, to rebuild the nation on a proper foundation of faith, virtue, honor, law, order, and necessary public services.

Needless to say, but we will not in any way assist any insurgencies that you may or may not have. Such rebels lack the proper cause for revolt that we have here, and quite candidly probably represent die-hard Communists, if anyone at all. Communism is dead in Damoclea and needs to be buried forever, so that the new, Christian Damoclea might be born, at least here in the South.

In case you are wondering, no, we don't plan to burn heretics or any such nonsense. Rather, we will simply follow Christian virtues and principles in organizing our society, so as maintaining a sensible, but not idle or wasteful, welfare state, as well as basic public works, freedom of religion, and naturally freedom to practice nudity if one's conscience demands it. Naturally, there will be very strict punishments for rape and other such despicable practices, though it seems to us that a better fit for South Damoclea in terms of morals is simply to educate and inform rather than prohibit certain practices, and to create tax incentives for marriage and procreation. Divorce should be limited to certain grounds, rather than no-fault, naturally, due to the Biblical sanctions against it and the social disruption that it causes in any state. Churches will be tax-exempt as well.

If this sounds like a policy and a regime that you can recognize and accept, even support, please respond.

The Judicial Front of the Christian State of South Damoclea

A Proclamation by Admiral Aristocles

Postby Damoclea » Thu Apr 10, 2014 4:59 pm

To the nations of the world,

Be it known that, today, the 10th of April, 2014, the city and metropolitan area of Xanthisea has become a sovereign city-state, the Free State of Xanthisea, with full independence and sovereignty, and seeks recognition of the same by all nations. The Free State will be a sovereign commonwealth composed of ethnic Damocleans and Jews, with many of the former being Jewish proselytes, and the official religion of Xanthisea shall be Judaism. However, Christians, Muslims, and even heathens are free to practice their faiths without persecution or harassment by the state, under the principles of free exercise and worship.

The Free State of Xanthisea has no claim on the rest of the former nation of Damoclea, nor does it seek to recover any lands. It will not maintain a normal army, but rather a marine corps along with the navy, and an air corps as well, all operating under the supreme command of Admiral Aristocles Levin, as Commander-in-Chief and Ethnarch of Xanthisea. It will also maintain a centralized police for the preservation of law and order.

The Free State of Xanthisea seeks diplomatic relations with all nations, especially those in Pythonia, including South Damoclea. We will seek friendship and commerce with all nations, but entangling alliances with none. Our military forces will be strictly defensive in purpose. We also recognize the Right of Asylum to all Jews seeking refuge from persecution abroad.

Shalom in the name of Hashem,
Admiral Aristocles Levin
Major General Yossel Feldman

SEC:MOST SECRET-PERSONAL PROTOCOL

 Greetings, Mr President

We act as Empires do without upsetting nations and or entities like Norvenia in the course of living our lives, Empires have often gotten a poor reputation in the world today. We want to work with you in Hutanjia and other things and yet we cannot sanction officially genocide or something that appears to be like that. We can leave that by the wayside having recongnized the EIO assassinated the King of New Edom before the Elwe uprising began. We wont hold it against you but that is in the deck.

We must note that the Free Trade extends to Crude oil from New Edom and no further last we checked and under the Communes Act passed by Timothy York my predecessor the Edenists were granted permission to form their own communes and the Militancy Act was repealed before that allowed for the traditional formation of militia among Edenist communities. The fact that Edenists go around naked and form militias has raised some eyebrows, my own Minister of the Interior and heads of the Security Services and several Provincial First Ministers and their Chief Constables have brought to my desk various reports that I find to be quite full of worry.

We understand that the Anarchists are still afield, we do not sanction the activities that they have undertaken for they are surely abominable and unfit for a free society such as those that exist in this world, the external footage from our Consulate-General surveillance systems in Sixington and a report from the Consul-General himself that demonstrators were fired upon in an adjoining street by personell in New Edomite Army uniforms. A review by the Foreign Relations Committees of Commons and Lords has led us to conclude that perhaps General Felicity Romain was a bit overzealous, if the demonstrators threatened the lives of New Edomite soldiers then it is believed that they were well within their rights to engage with all means at their disposal.

The calls for resignation were to suit our purposes, it has been desired that HMAFM have a base in Cornellia and with New Edoms relationship with us we thought we could get a base. And well surely you have heard of debts Mr President, all things have their price and well surely you could guess the price we would enact in light of aid in theory to Gloria Regis. The Joint Intelligence Comitee has come to me after I forwarded to them the talk of Anarchist support among the Communists and Feminists.

I commend you for the foreign policy you have undertaken, I was voted into an office which seems somewhat cursed, Timothy York, the man who immediately preceded me resigned, he did not think that the War in Hutanjia the rising terrorist crisis, a crisis which I must resolve and do it quickly. Also the damn Damoclean problem. The Sanctions Suspension Act of New Edom means that the Sanctions will not be enforced and are effectively withdrawn. All that is not going to happen is the Free Trade Negotiations until withdraw from Gloria Regis is effected.

We back Griffiths because he has a very formidable war machine in his deck, the New Model Army, and so well HMAFM could take them on but there are all kinds of variables my friend.

 Greetings

A joint command could be formed perhaps from Arbites and the Allied States, you would be growing closer in the face of the Commonwealth of Norvenia sending the 1st Global Naval Interdiction Group to the Cornellian Ocean.  We belive a coalition command between the two of you would be fine.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE MILITARY GOVERNOR OF DAMOCLEA

The Declaration that the Christian State of Damoclea has reached my desk. Let it be said before God that I have not received any sort of cease and desist order from the other commanders of the various occupation zones and the New Edomites and Malacanoi, they are the ones to blame for setting the damned precedent.

-New Edomite Dispatch of Damoclean soldiers to protect their own interests.

-The integration of the Malacanoi zone as a province of their country.

I like Ian McKellon before me belive that we may still have peace, the hinge that it rests on is the Damoclean Judicial Front stopping violent action against HMAFM, aid cannot flow in a combat zone, when this land is cleansed of violence by two sides coming to the table. A Damoclean fired ten shots from a submachine gun and put peace in jeopardy, killing two men who wanted to come to an accord. If you want someone to blame, blame the MPs in Griffindon who held up deliberations in Committee and on the floor.

I realize now what must be done, I would like to thank the enemy for telling me what I must do, the Christian State of Damoclea must lay down arms first.

Perhaps we could go to Free State of Xanthisea for mediations Damoclea? Ill leave that up to the people.

Countries were not built on blood.

Vice Admiral David Peltright, Military Governor

Combat Operations

The McNernian Security Forces decided that the aid should start, soft power in addition to harder power, the guerrillas were well supplied it seemed, spies had found some dumps of food and water, they were destroyed because well the Damocleans could not be trusted with their food. Orders were handed down and soldiers did not by food off of the locals, they rode around in Pseujondas and Razorbacks and badgers. Occasionally there would be a threesome of Iron hearts passing through the cities.

Car bombs were dealt with by signs advertising no parking around government buildings and snipers could expect to see a little drone looking at them with a gun barrel or something else.

Another sniper,

the Special Air Service and Royal Marines and Paracommandos joined the fight for the city, their snipers and marksmen looked down the S.R 10 rifles from the upper floors of buildings, the DJF had nowhere to hid from the ghosts in the night

Out in the open country convoys of medics and soldiers worked to help people in the isolated areas.

Asklepion, Southern Damoclea

Fire, death, destroyed vehicles, and rubble made up various scenes throughout Asklepion. The vastly successful guerrilla tactics have proven to be affective against the McNernian military. Street by street, block by block, and neighborhood by neighborhood -- Judicial Front was succeeding in wiping traces of McNernians from the city. Whether they were all killed or retreated; McNernians were destroyed street by street. McNernians were being slammed by a determined foe of strongly patriotic, and heavily trained insurgent fighters. Using the jungle that was urban terrain; fighters scurried around through buildings, tight alleyways, and tunnels. You could literally call the Damocleans scurrying rats with guns. The highly motivated fighters fought not only for the blood of the McNernians; Judicial Front fighters fought for their country and homes.

Ambush by ambush was carried out with a wide majority of successes. Heavy machine gun and assault rifle gunfire put troops down to take cover while the light vehicles and troop carriers were torn apart by RPG's from above, the sides, and the rear. A majority of the time they'd kill off the entire patrol, unit, or check point; looting what supplies they could from the dead -- including body armor, guns, and ammunition. The borders of the city and routes to the city were liberated early in the night. These were the clean examples of the fighting throughout Asklepion; as Damocleans were primairly focused on the battle at hand. Entire check points were ablaze and bodies charred; flung through windows after being hit by a sniper and bullets traveling through walls tore apart resting or waiting McNernian soldiers. Charred bodies and corpses protruded of chunks of wood and metal; debris that likely killed them if not the explosions or bullets. One McNernian lay dead with most of his head blasted off; his brains, skull, and blood scattered about. Another had his leg blown off and the other hanging by a few strands, he was tugging at the ground trying to crawl to safety. Many scattered McNernian dead had entire limbs blown off and deep bloody wounds; bullets that dug and burned their ways inside and sometimes through, headshots that had many parts of the head destroyed and scattered around the vicinity and the lad next to him. The Damocleans avoided rape or dismantling of the bodies as they were told and taught; they refused to clean up the devastated skirmish sites they had liberated and rape was an improved small percentage. Vehicles were blackened by the heat from the flames they gave off, after being destroyed by an IED or RPG attack; charring dead still inside and killed McNernians shot out from the explosion. The lightly armored and prepared McNernian forces were mere pray to Damoclean snipers and assault teams. In many cases, as ordered, fighters looted from the dead they had killed; every dead McNernian was a prize made up of armor, guns, ammunition, and their very clothing. Bare naked, bloody, and torn apart McNernian bodies littered in many cases around the capital; their sacrifice was not in vain, as Judicial Front fighters would say.

Major counter offenses by McNernians were welcomed like a spider welcoming a fly to its web. A large convoy would hit from rear and front to the center before arriving to their destination; trapping forces inside as each vehicle, each soldier, was picked off with intense gunfire and sniper fire. The city's assault was going so successfully that more than eighty percent of the city was claimed under Judicial Front control; McNernians were either dead or forced back to their government strongholds, which too were under heavy assault by mortar and sniper fire. McNernians who attempted to clear buildings in hopes of clearing out fighters met a fate of gunfire or an explosion as they rushed inside; all killed if not mortally wounded; clearing tall and large buildings without support was a suicide mission if not prepared. In many situations, McNernian snipers walked into Damoclean fire nests high up top and MANPAD stations as well; the small sniper teams were immediately killed by the fighters, plundered of their gear and clothing, and tossed out the window -- usually being twenty to sixty floors up in many cases. Judicial Front took no prisoners; if McNernia wanted a merciless campaign, they would get one. Barely surviving McNernians met a fate of a gunshot to the back of the head or a bayonet plunged into them. No body was left untouched. Civilians crouched in fear of being caught in-between the fighting; listening as flying gunfire, explosions, and screams were heard. No one helped one McNernian lad who was screaming in pain, begging for mercy and his parents -- that was before he took a bayonet to the throat.

Above in the skies were black smoke, flashes of light, and falling balls of fire as MANPAD units picked out anything flying the sky with ease. The night sky was lit by flames and covered by smoke from the devastation bellow. Helicopters, fighters, and larger drones that made it in time to launch were immediately brought down by the MANPAD units high inside the the towers and on the rooftops -- they had no chance of escape in the urban jungle in most cases. It was like shooting fish in a barrel much of the time; intense crashes could be seen in the distance as flaming wrecks of what was left of aircraft crashed into buildings, towers, and in streets -- if MAPADS didn't bring down the aircraft, heavy caliber gunfire did. The airport was closed down immediately by the mortar fire paving the runways of craters; hangers and aircraft ablaze as the airport came under heavy gun, mortar, and RPG fire. Military bases were shut down completely if not wiped out by similar mortar, RPG, and intense gunfire. It was Hell on Earth for McNernia in Asklepion; what was left of their footholds were now shrinking and were under constant assault by attacking and retreating organized forces.

The Damocleans were very determined in this fight. The original mission to simply assault the city was forgotten as time passed on. With the nearly push over of McNernian forces; Damocleans became more motivated by every street taken. The highly trained insurgents fought for their nation's rightful capital city, a soon to be seat of power for all Damocleans. Their weapons were well maintained and fired correctly -- no wild spraying -- and the advantages they had were used like breaths being taken. The highly motivated fighters kept the fight going all night with no coffee break in sight. Those who were wounded kept in the fight; many times staying even when hit in the limbs, most moved to support roles in bringing supplies and running for for ammo. A wounded fighter would hand over his extra ammo, snacks, and equipment and then would leave and return twenty minutes later with more ammo and supplies. Guards and other fighters now protected their acquired ground as if it was their very home.

Toy machines mounting guns were laughed at by Judicial Front fighters. The loud contraptions echoed in empty tunnel and buildings screaming "Here we come!" Not to mention lights and the fragile aim of these devices posed little danger to an alert Damoclean fighter. They were brought down so quickly that it became a goal to kill a ground drone; the metal alone could serve up good reward cash -- the weapon and ammo were extra benefits. The McNernians had now lost electricity, poles to use phones and faced radio monitoring by JF forces; they now lacked air support, ground support in most cases, and were losing any attempt to see their foes. Blindness was an approaching possibility entirely. The Damocleans however possessed ground support, the tactical and strategic advantage, motivation and intensity, and more support was on the way. McNernians had their aircraft grounded, shot down, vehicles destroyed, and soldiers torn apart.

The first night of fighting went bloody, fiery, and devastating -- for the McNernians that was. Out of the reported twenty something thousand fighters Judicial Front attacked with, only a few dozen were reported killed or wounded. Meanwhile; Judicial Front took control over most of the city and had safe avenues for resupply and reinforcements. The burning blacked out wrecks of aircraft littered the city as did vehicle carcases and dead McNernian bodies; surviving forces who dared not to travel out, hunkered down in what safe patches they could find in government zones that had not been liberated yet. Damoclean forces possessed ground support, artillery, and plenty of active fighters; McNernia however had its military presence in the city shut down, killed, or retreated. Raids on supplies and bases would soon pull out even heavier equipment for the fighters to use in the coming hours. What positions the McNernians hold is at risk of being surrounded or liberated; the airport could be an assault away from being taken and bases are in the same boat. With all the gains of the Judicial Front fighters and the devastation of the McNernian military; it was going to be a long night and a dreadful morning.

Countryside, Southern Damoclea

They say when in the woods, you are surrounded by wildlife; similar to this, sea life is said to surround you while out at sea. In the Southern Damoclean countryside; McNernians were surrounded by Damocleans -- pro Judicial Front natives and Judicial Front forces. You could not drive a car without passing a Damoclean native, a Judicial Front scout, or Damoclean informant. That being said; McNernians made earthquakes with their presence in the area. Troops who thought they were sneaking around were easy to spot; no leaf touched without a Damoclean witnessing it. The ambushers soon found themselves in an ambush themselves; hidden among the bushes and land, Judicial Front ambushed McNernian troops moving about wherever spotted. Damoclean natives even took part and took shots with their hunting rifles.

Stationed troops were easy pickings for Judicial Front. What troops were facing the Edomites were easy pickings for JF forces to assault; surrounded and heavy fire faced the enemy. Similar tactics of pinning troops down and taking out the vehicles with a bombardment of RPG's was the main choice for Judicial Front forces. Stationed troops faced motivated fighters, mortar and RPG assaults, and heavy gunfire; non of which was in the open. This is Damoclean's land; fighters knew the layout of their home country and used it to their advantage -- similar to the fighters in the capital. Fighters made it a habit to remain hidden and never show themselves; fire, destroy, retreat, and repeat. Patrols were the easiest targets as IED's and ambushes lay in wait for these easy targets. McNernians were watched well beforehand to learn their routes and their positions -- their gear, weapons, vehicles, etc. Judicial Front fought smart rather than with outright brawn. The artillery guns, as frightening as they were, posed little threat to small assault groups who could outrun targeted positions; never the less, losses were minimal in the fighting at best. It was nice of the people to also donate what McNernians delivered to them to the Judicial Front; if the convoys weren't ambushed first that is.

Xanthisea

The night before the fighting began, an important meeting was set to begin. TECT was finally making its first moves officially in the area but was keeping it on the downlow still. Arriving in Xanthisea early in the morning, Curtis Exley and his military adviser Major General Brian Ramos arrived by diplomatic plane. Curtis was a prominent member in the TECT Imperial Congress; as a Senator elected almost a decade ago -- Curtis was an influential Senator from the State of Forelis. His highest honor though, for which he's known now, is his Chairman seat on the Colonial Affairs Committee. His committee isn't the most powerful in a long shot -- but its power can't be overstated, in an imperial government and society, his committee had large power over colonial statuses of territories. The Colonial Affairs Senate Committee takes requests by territories ruled by the Empire of Common Territories and hears its application to escalate from its colony status or territory status to move on up the territorial scale; its final destination being a Colonial State. Curtis has led the committee through a decade stance on touch regulations for becoming a state; basically measuring the TECT Constitution to its bare minimum. Curtis is described as not being corrupt but being tough and fair in his job.

Curtis and the Major General were in the newly declared city-state for one purpose alone; discussing the colonial proposition TECT had interest in attaining. TECT saw an opportunity in Damoclea to gain such a large plot of land, current and future, and the possibility of flopping it over from expensive to profitable. Therefore; the Emperor ordered SIGS to assist the Damocleans in revolution and plant the seeds of annexation into TECT among the natives. Curtis' job there was to make the proposition solid and discuss the the foundation of said agreement. Although the Empire would gain from the deal; Southern Damoclea and Xanthisea would benefit no doubt from an experienced colonizer and efficient small government system. A meeting between the Senator/military officer and Admiral Aristocles and other leadership was scheduled to commence. All, with the highest hope, to entice the Damocleans into annexation. The supplies and air defense system it had sent out to Xanthisea would hopefully have been the sweet appetizer to full support by the Commoners.

Damoclea City, Arbiter Occupation Zone
Eastern Damoclea

General Vicks, Admiral Rothbard, and the other key planners of the Imperial invasion realized in hindsight that only the Emperor's intervention saved their sector following the war. The Imperial invasion seized the capital and destroyed the Damoclean chain of command in a single day. It went so fast the slated occupation forces weren't even prepared yet, they'd expected a timeframe of several weeks. Given the Cultural Reports on the Damoclean people, they were expected to descend into infighting in the absence of central authority. It would be like during the darkest days of the Ceti Civil War, with individual bands of aimless soldiers seizing whatever dirt piles they happened to be guarding at the time. Vicks, Rothbard, and the others were preparing for a second phase of the war.

Only by the Emperor's will did the transition go smoothly. In lieu of a proper occupation force, Vicks flew in a number of junior officers to take control of Damoclean units in the capital. He couldn't occupy the Capital Region, much less the eastern third of Damoclea, with a single division. However, his only option of damage control was to establish some kind of presence throughout the area representing a new central authority. If nothing else, the Damoclean holdouts had to be informed that the war was, in fact, over.

As it turned out, the Damoclean people had utterly capitulated. They rolled over so thoroughly that Vicks and Rothbard lost a week's worth of sleep fretting that it was all a ruse and Party holdouts were collecting intelligence on them. Within days of the Imperium establishing itself, however, the Damocleans began informing on communist holdouts. The Inquisition arrived on scene to confirm the details, and lo and behold their reports were reliable. It was certainly a surprise to the more cynical Inquisitors assigned to the task.

Far from needing a second phase of the war, a single Templar team working with local Damoclean auxiliaries was enough to purge the last lingering stains of Thales' tenure from the country. When the occupation forces arrived properly, the Imperial officers even found that they preferred to keep at least a few reasonably-paid Damoclean auxiliaries around. They knew their country, the raw meat from home didn't.

Naturally, it wasn't enough to simply kick over a statue of Thales and leave the Damocleans to do it all over again. Where possible, Damoclea had to be converted to a civilized society, one free from its primitive notions which encouraged idleness and endemic fornication. The pitiful state had never truly been a nation, so the Imperium would shoulder the burden of building one for them. By the Emperor's will, this new Damoclea would have proper infrastructure, industry, and morals.

The Imperial Civil Engineer Corps, with the weight of the Imperial manufacturing sector behind it, first repaired Damoclea's infrastructure. Bridges, power plants, railroads, roads, power lines, even a few state-run radio towers. That made it easier for Imperial companies to gain access to the country and take over the formerly state-run industry. Luckily the state of Damoclean "industry" prior to the war was so pitiful that the work of firms such as Overhauser Steel and Orsini Lumber appeared truly miraculous in comparison. Just another compelling piece of evidence of the superiority of the Imperial system over communism. Security checkpoints were established to monitor the people's movements.

The battle of hearts and minds was waged with as much vigor as Vicks' invasion. Decommunization was carried out as expediently as possible by the Inquisition. Based on seized records, former Communist Party members were separated into three distinct classes. "Exonerated" referred to those who "joined" the Party only after Thales seized power for occupational purposes and had not actively supported the Party's international agenda. "Collaborator" included soldiers, officials, and activists who were officially part of the Party's power structure after the revolution and willingly participated in furthering Thales' agenda. If they refused to cooperate in apprehending their former comrades, they were subject to incarceration, and even cooperative individuals faced restrictions on travel unless they could demonstrate their usefulness. "Malignant" was the category reserved for higher-ups and war criminals. Higher Party officials, administrators of state industries, prison wardens, and members of certain military units who had served in Lyscania were classified as such. They were quietly taken by the Inquisition; generally they weren't heard from again.

The Church, however, knew that you could catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Considerable benefits were offered to new Orthodox Magi converts. Refugees in particular would be fast-tracked out of camps if they converted. Imperial medical personnel moved into the dilapidated Damoclean hospitals and began offering free basic medical care to converts, in the same vein as Imperial subjects. The Inquisition instructed Imperial companies operating in Damoclea to preferentially hire Magi, using a warped interpretation of a passage from scripture which stated little more than "He who stands with me shall be my brother, and I shall stand with him in turn." Church charity functions opened in Damoclea, providing food, water, and even affordable housing appropriated from existing apartment blocks. Open-air sermons and propaganda leaflets disseminated knowledge of the Brotherhood of Man, hinting that those who joined would be rewarded. Parochial schools were opened to instill proper values in children, the earlier the better. Of course, the Church worked in coordination with the Orders of the Protectors and the Inquisition to monitor their latest converts, ensuring they were truly thinking and acting civilized at home ("The Emperor knows what you did this morning").

At all available opportunities, every problem in Damoclea was blamed on the previous government and its ideology. Standard of living? Communism lowered it. Bridge destroyed by Imperial airstrike? The communists started that war. Rationing? Communist inefficiency created those shortages, but we'll fix it in time. Can't find your loved ones after the war? Look at this prison camp, and remember what Thales did.

The Imperium needed Damoclea functional, rather than a potential drain on resources. At present, Imperial companies were happy to get contracts in Pythonia, but most of those contracts were with the Imperial government. It was all tax solidii, at the Curia's expense. The transition from occupation to ally was looking increasingly attractive by now, especially now that functioning police departments complete with closed-circuit teams were in place. Couldn't be too careful.

Naturally, just as the Imperium was preparing to make that transition, the McNernians were blundering their way through their own occupation. Of the nations which intervened in Damoclea, McNernia had taken by far the most casualties and had done the most to undermine its own position in the aftermath. Inquisition informants were in a position to monitor movements in and out of the McNernian Zone, and had heard stories of endemic corruption and counterproductive crackdowns. The McNernians had been duped by what amounted to a local warlord, and ham-handedly attacked everything with a pulse in retribution for a few protests. They had even slaughtered innocents in a hospital by now, the barbarians.

The message from the Judicial Front was never actually read by the Curia, but by the Inquisition and the Order Pacific. McNernia had been mucking about in Cornellia for a while now, with on-again-off-again hostility towards New Edom, the Imperium's tenuous ally. By this point the Imperium had concluded that the less they had to do with the ne'er do wells, the better. Unfortunately, practical considerations remained: this was little more than an uprising, by a terrorist group no less. Without a guarantee of viability and with no intentions of sending Vicks to overrun the McNernian Occupation Zone, the Imperium wasn't going to risk any more than it had to. At the same time...the Inquisition was nervous. Who was giving the Judicial Front the backing they needed to stage an uprising on the scale their informants were hearing about? If nothing else, this was an opportunity for intelligence.

To whom it may concern,

While we are relieved to hear that you bear us and our allies no ill intent, the possibility of recognition remains under consideration. At present your organization lacks legitimacy in the eyes of the international community, and direct intervention against McNernia would certainly be considered an act of war. Though we remain baffled by McNernia's actions as of late, we are not prepared to shed their blood.

However, if your group could be legitimized in the eyes of the international community, we would be more inclined to expedite the process of recognition. For instance, where did your organization procure the resources to stage the current conflict? If you have a foreign backer, they might be able to boost your initial standing first.

A Proclamation of the Hegemon

Postby Malacanos » Sun Apr 13, 2014 10:03 am

To the nations of Pythonia, Cornellia, and the world itself,

Be it known that I, Spiro Costas, the Hegemon of the Hellenic Hegemony of Malacanos, do hereby give formal diplomatic recognition to the following nations and governments: the Free State of Xanthisea, the Christian State of South Damoclea, and the Hellenic Polity of North Damoclea. I also give notice that upon the full annexation of the city of Posidonis by the Archonate of Lyscania, it will be recognized as a city of that nation, but until such time will continue to be regarded as a separate protectorate of said nation.

I also wish to refute the claims of the Kingdom of McNernia that I have, in any way, annexed North Damoclea to Malacanos. Rather, as the other occupying powers did, except McNernia itself, my nation and I created a viable post-war state in North Damoclea, governed principally by Damocleans with assistance and protection from Malacanos at the present. It is now ready for self-rule, and as regrettably Damoclea seems to have been partitioned, it is wise to accept this fact as imminent and adapt to the practical reality of the ramifications for both Damoclea and Malacanos alike.

I must now regrettably propose the formal dissolution of the Federal Council, as its purpose was to assist the reintegration of Damoclean zones, something that now seems less than feasible at this point. There is not one Damoclea, but there are now five Damocleas: North, South, East, West, and Xanthisea. No doubt the Edomite and Imperial zones will soon become states of some kind, allied to the occupying powers assigned those zones. The fact that both Xanthisea and South Damoclea have seceded has made this reality, this future, abundantly clear, and so we have chosen to recognize both it and the new nations that have emerged thus far. Once the Imperial and Edomite zones become nations, they, too, shall be recognized as such.

While this is unfortunate, this division, it should also be noted that the Damoclean state in the pre-war sense was barely a nation at all, if it was one. It was in many ways an artificial imitation of a country, held together in makeshift fashion by a series of governments that seemed to fall with disturbing volatility and frequency. If it is stabler as five countries than as one, which seems likely to be the case, then let it be five stable nations which do not have the same destructive potential as one very unstable nation with so much manpower.

I must also urge the Kingdom of McNernia to cease spouting falsehoods about Malacanos and New Edom, and to cease and desist its brutal, ineffective occupation of South Damoclea, returning control to the new nation and its new national government, the Judicial Front. The Hellenic Hegemony of Malacanos not only recognizes the Christian State of South Damoclea as a sovereign nation, but it also recognizes the Judicial Front as the sole lawful and legitimate government of that nation, just as it has with the Free State of Xanthisea and the Hellenic Polity of North Damoclea and their governments. The Hellenic Hegemony of Malacanos is willing to establish full diplomatic relations with all three nations, of course.

In the name of the deathless Gods,
Spiro Costas, Hegemon of Malacanos
