It's apparently a toxic atmosphere, I'm pretty sure shots wouldn't help much against long term exposure.

Elsewise, I think that the Helghast colonists would have invented that too, and eliminated the mutations that plagued them.

Fortunately, only very few of our guys wear such armour. It's far too expensive for it to be given to everyone.
