Colonial Revolution (Open, MT)

Postby New Velgast » Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:51 pm

The colonist of New Velgast gathered around the Governor's Palace. Many called for their freedom. Some called for Governor Bactus's head. After a few hours the Governor steped out to the podium.

"My people, please. Do not forget what the Motherland has given us. Without her we would not be here today!"
The crowd called for a revolution. Bactus tried to calm the colonist. They only continued to cry out. A shot rang out from the crowd. Bactus fell. He was rushed back to his office. The colonist attacked the officers guarding the podium. They demanded freedom from the "Motherland", the United Republic of Velgast. Governor Bactus needed New Velgast to remain a colony to keep his seat of power. The colonist began to riot. A doctor was taken to Bactus's office and the bullet was removed from his shoulder.
"Get me President Krons on the line immediatley.

President Krons, I regret to inform you that the colonist have revolted. They are rioting in the streets. They are calling for for a seperation form Velgast.I am asking your permission to use force to subdue these revolutionist."

Special Agent Nick Memphis of the Unified Intelligence Task Force was watching the crowd. He wasn't on-mission, he had come here on vacation, he had a tendency to travel the world during his time off and this was his latest stop. He watched with interest as the crowd rioted, and he rang UNIT hq and filled them in on the situation as he continued to watch.

You have my support to take care of these revolutionist. If you are unable to take care of them then don't even bother to return to the country. Do what you must to keep control.

Fliers began to appear in the streets of the capital;

*
*

**_______________New Velgast is not alone!_______________**

*
*

*
*

**_____________Freedom from the Motherland!_____________**

*
*

*
*

**____________________Death to Bactus!____________________**

*
*

on the reverse side of the flier was shown a sketched image of a man saluting a pair of flag poles, one flying the New Velgan flag, and the other shown flying the Pudite standard. Below the image was printed; "The Dominion Protects".

The work was that of a half-dozen Frumentarii field agents based there, having been assigned only very recently to the region following a hint at the instability of the colony having been luckily snatched from the air a few months before. The Agency did not ignore such potential gems, and the most recent work of their agents in New Velgast is primary tribute to that idea. The apartment rented for the men was located in a lower-income working class neighborhood at the heart of the city, a place where so many people came and went, they would remain ghosts. The time for these precautions however was soon to be at an end. Shortly following the fliers, an open letter to Governor Bactus was being passed around in the streets. A copy was delivered to the Governor's Palace.

Dear Governor Bactus;
Should you choose to take forty-five seconds of your day to humor the will of the people of New Velgast, something we're rather certain you have not done for some time now, we are quite sure that it will be worth your while. We are not only asking you, respectfully, to listen, but we rather insist.

Governor, the people, for reasons we know mean nothing to you, of New Velgast extend to you today an offer to leave peacefully. We the people can ensure that should you leave the sovereign territory of New Velgast, you will be spared. At least, that is the most likely. You see, if you stay, your life will certainly be forfeit. Therefore, we offer you the choice; leave, or stay.

Do not attempt to enforce your will on us anymore. We are beyond your control. Get out while you can. We extend to you forty-eight hours to vacate the territory. You may gather your family and anyone you feel may be in danger, because, chances are, they are. Escape.

The Revolution is coming. We are not alone. You will not survive.

While the letter was making its rounds, the Pudite agents were preparing to make the most of their threat. Off the coast of New Velgast, cruising about two-hundred miles west, in open, international waters, Captain Mozkot and the Virtue of Selfishness was making first contact with the chief of the Frumentarii operations on shore by means of secure satellite link;

"Captain? Captain?"

The answer, heard seconds later in the dingy apartment, was the validation of the past two months of work for the six men in the room,

"This is the Virtue of Selfishness, Captain Mozkot speaking," the voice was older than the agent, but spoke with respect,

"Captain, you have made contact with Muzhedrag. What is your current location?"

"Cruising at approximately two-hundred nautical miles west of Muzhedrag position. We are prepared."

"We are pleased to know. A display may soon be in order. We will make contact with you again."

The terse tone of the Frumentarii did not surprise the captain. As an independent captain of the Imperial Navy, he was often seconded to the Agency for duties similar to what he expected here, he knew what was coming. "Fiat."

"Fiat."

With that the conversation ended. Two months of work, a multi-billion dollar submarine, six highly valuable intelligence agents, and millions in surveillance over the months prior was all it had taken. A drop in the proverbial Pudite bucket.

Message to President Krons, of the United Republic of Velgast,
from Chancellor Ford, of the Imperial Federation of Salice;

I am deeply concerned to hear of the misbehavior and ingratitude of your colonial trusts, and furthermore, the Imperial Federation of Salice would like to extend, with me, our most fervent support for your quelling of these troublesome dissenters. Great peoples are ever troubled by such who do not appreciate that which is provided them, and their insolence is not to be pitied or doted upon. Give no quarter to the rebels.

In addition, the Imperial Federation has voted me the power to offer to you the full assistance and cooperation of the Federal Armed Forces in suppressing any violence in New Velgast. It would be most unfortunate if such events should occur to make you want to abandon your sovereign and inviolate territory for the pleasure of those who would not respect your rule. All the power of the Federation is at your disposal. The Federation stands ready.

As a gesture of goodwill and trust the Federation has, at my insistence, voted the sum of one-billion dollars be wired directly to your national treasury to support any operations you deem necessary.

Sincerely,
Chancellor Ford

I appreciate your involvement and support but this is a matter for Governor Bactus to attend to. I will send your message to him, and he will give you a response. I am staying out of this conflict for the time being. If it becomes neccessay for me to intervean, I will. Until then all messages should be sent to the Governor.
And once again,
Thank you

Your support is greatly appreciated. We will need any and all help we can recieve. Currently my troops are trying to subdue the colonist surrounding my palace. Once that is done we can deal with the rest of the colony. New Velgast must remain under my control, otherwise I will be banished from the nation of Velgast. If the colonist are not subdued then my career, as well as my life is over.

The nation of South East Europe will support you in your fight against the colonists. We are currently dispatching a patrol of 20 soldiers onto New Velgast to help to quell the protests. These 20 soldiers are heavily armed and are the highest ranked soldiers of the 500 Elite, the top 500 soldiers in the Military of South East Europe. On average, each of these soldiers has been in 1400 missions and has a 99% success rate.

Thank you Princess Adena. These soldiers will be of great use to me. The Colony of New Velgast will remain just that, a colony of the United Republic of Velgast. As long as I am in power, my life is safe.

from Chancellor Ford, of the Imperial Federation of Salice;

Following the acceptance of the Imperial Federation's offer of support the Federal Navy has dispatched immediately Admiral Stoyan and the Second Expeditionary Fleet. I am personally very pleased that the Federation is going to be able to assist you in this most unjust turn of events. The fleet dispatched will require a port to unload their equipment, I trust that this will be made available.

The 3rd Mobile Infantry division will accompany Admiral Stoyan, and will be at your disposal from the moment they arrive.

Sincerely,
Chancellor Ford

Over the next few days troops began arriving supporting Bactus and the current regime. His police were still forcing the colonist back away from the palace. The colonist had control over most of the capitol. But the loyalist bagan attacking the colonist and the revolution had begun.

Muzhedrag stood alone on the beach, or so it appeared to the four men approaching in the boat. It was dusk, and the sea was rough, it was hard to make out what lay beyond the beach. It was here that the rest of Muzhedrag's team waited. The black inflatable raft washed right up the beach, the man in the back pulling the engine up to avoid damage. As the men hopped out, Muzhedrag unclasped his hands and threw his arms apart in silent greeting, descending on the boat to help pull it ashore.

The five men carried the raft up into the grass beyond the beach silently, only when they had dropped it behind some particularly tall tufts did Muzhedrag speak his first words to them, "Welcome to New Velgast, soon-to-be-sovereign state."

Before the four men could react, however, Muzhedrag's men were on them. Muzhedrag himself hit the first man with a powerful right-handed uppercut, before a jab to the throat and then back of the head knocked the man unconscious completely. The other three were subdued by the remaining five Frumentarii agents in the dunes. After burning the boat, Muzhedrag and his men removed the four unconscious sailors to their apartment.

Three days later Muzhedrag was again speaking to Captain Mozkot, again via satellite phone, "Captain," he was saying, "I've some news to report concerning the riots in the capital."

"Indeed, what then have you learned?"

"It was discovered yesterday," he began, regurgitating a speech tailored for the occasion, "that at least four Imperial Navy seamen were murdered by the troops in the capital. There are not only loyal Velgan troops fighting here, but foreign allies as well, with contingents from nation's known to their people Salice and South-East-Europe. It is yet unknown who caused the death of the Pudite citizens, but it is being investigated."

The captain, with a well rehearsed tone, responded, "What insolence these foreigners display. I shall forward your report of the situation without delay,"

"There is further news," continued Muzhedrag, to the surprise of the captain, who responded sincerely "Yes? What news?"

"There really is a rather large contingent here from the Federation of Salice. They appear either naive, or easy to provoke. Either way; they make a tempting choice. Perhaps the soldiers who killed the sailors were not from Velgast at all." With a change of tone he became suddenly relaxed again, "It is merely something to think about." he finished.

The captain, himself now enshrouded in thought, replied "Indeed. Fiat."

"Fiat, captain."

It was only hours later that the Dominion received word of the murder of four Imperial citizens, members of the military no less, who were fired upon and killed by over-zealous soldiers from the Federation of Salice in New Velgast. The report indicated that the Pudite sailors were there on a peaceful delegation to the colonial authority when they were attacked in the street. One managed to escape, and this survivor paints a gruesome tale of the disregard for life the Salic soldiers displayed when suppressing anyone they considered deviant.

The message, received from Captain Mozkot, was read to glorious effect by Prefect Nadej, administrator of the Empire Prefecture and commander in chief of Imperial Armed Forces operations outside the five homeland prefectures. Nadej immediately ordered Captain Mozkot to engage the Salic fleet in port at New Velgast, an attack which would be accompanied by a message from himself to them, and their Velgan hosts.

This order was received by the communications officer of the Virtue of Selfishness approximately four hours after dispatching the captains report to the Foreign Affairs office. The instructions were to fire a barrage of high-explosive warheads at the flagship of the foreign fleet based in New Velgast. The missiles were cruise missiles, and therefore not extremely difficult to spot and tempting targets indeed for anti-missile systems, but if any of the Pudite payload made it through, the result would be catastrophic damage to the structure of the ship. In total, eight missiles were launched; all fired in groups of two missiles, with increasingly shorter times of impact between the three groups. The final four missiles would arrive within seconds of each other.

Exactly one-hour following the time of impact scheduled for the seventh and eighth cruise missiles, a message was received by the New Velgan and Salic authorities;

To: Imperial Federation of Salice and the Velgan government in general and Governor Bactus and Admiral Stoyan in particular,
From: Prefect A. Nadej, Prefect of the Empire of the Dominion of Emperor Pudu Jilang XLII;

Recently the Dominion has learned of the murder of four Imperial seamen by the Salic mercenaries in New Velgast, and of the
related rioting caused by the legitimate authorities inability to retain control of their own people. This disgusting
disregard for citizens of the Emperor's sovereign state sickens me.

The Dominion demands the turning over of the soldiers responsible for the murder, as well as every officer above the rank of
lieutenant attached to the Salic Federal Army contingent in Velgast, for trial in the Dominion. Refusal to do so would not be
wise.

Good day,

Looking at the IFS Sacrosanct only minutes before would have filled the viewer with a much different sensation than if viewed presently; spectators had once extolled the mighty warship, one of a select few of such behemoths to grace the Imperial Federation. Viewers were filled with all manner of synonyms for pride and excitement. Now, anyone who looked at the Sacrosanct couldn't tell you anything more than the direction of the wind. From the smoke emanating from the gaping hole at the center of the vessel.

The strike had come so fast, most of the people nearest the ship weren't even certain what was happening. Of course, some people had known exactly what was happening, and by the end, everyone did. Countermeasures were taken, but there was nothing for it. The technology wasn't perfect. Neither was the ship, anymore.

The rest of the fleet, acting under orders from Admiral Stoyan who had luckily been ashore that day, began to disperse. Additionally, a patrol of jets were immediately dispatched to the west to attempt to locate and engage the source of the missiles, which had been postulated roughly based on the missiles' incoming trajectories. The twelve fighter-bombers flew low over the ocean, to avoid the possibility of anyone looking at them while they themselves were looking for them.

Meanwhile, on shore, life for the Salic troops had changed little. The scenery over the harbor was different, and the air tasted funny for a few hours, until the last of the fuel had been put out, but the routine did not change. Strict control was maintained over a presumably hostile populace; armed patrols were unavoidable, and armored vehicles were a regular sight outside government buildings and along main roads. Military helicopters flew over every day, and civilian air traffic had been halted by Imperial decree. The Federation would restore peace to a troubled people, whether they wanted it or not.

Later that day, thousands of miles apart from the events in Velgast, in the capital, Chancellor Ford quietly declared war on the Dominion of Emporer Pudu.

The Virtue of Selfishness was at present rather ignorant of the contents of the sky above it, be there any. This ignorance, however, was the partner of a virtue unmistakably valuable; the fact that while submerged, they were practically invisible. Cruising at thirty knots and making a direct path back to the naval base in the Orange Islands, the Virtue was headed home. Her part in this was over.

Hours later word was reported of the Federation's response to the Pudite ultimatum. No correspondence would be required; anyone watching the Federation's government could tell what was happening. Before long all the proper satellites had been realigned and the images of the Federation came pouring in. If they made a move, the Dominion would know. Until then, things would progress as was planned.

Thousands of miles from the Homeland, off shore of the Orange Island naval installation that was the destination of Captain Mozkot's vessel, one Admiral Zhdan Krotsko was watching his fleet leave port. From the deck of his carrier, and flagship, the Foundation in Purity he could see as more than four-hundred brilliant white warships slid in perfect rank into the open ocean, moving with grace and precision not made obvious by their rough metal appearance. These ships were bound for the colony at New Velgast, where the Dominion had appointments to keep.

After a month the revolution was full blown. The Colony of New Velgast was not a large one but almost everyone there was fighting either for their freedom, or for Governor Bactus' loyalist soldiers. The revolutionist had taken most the outlying territories, although the loyalist still controlled most the cities. The Capitol of Takaluma was still in dispute. Both sides were taking more and more casualties everyday.

The Federal troops had taken severe losses in their initial attempts to quell the revolts in outlaying villages, and the retreat to the cities was just falling back from the frying pan into the fire. Since then, Salic troops have retreated entirely to their compound outside Takaluma. Heavy garrisons remained based in the government district, but the Federal Army had discontinued patrols into other, more hostile, areas of the city. Frequent air-strikes on suspected rebel positions outside the Salic perimeter at the center of the city had turned much of the surrounding buildings to rubble. Air patrols remained constant.

There were perhaps seven-thousand soldiers remaining in the capital, including the nearly two-thousand surrounded at the heart of the city. The fleet had pulled out of the harbor to avoid possible saboteurs, and maintained submarine patrols along the coast, while the remainder of the ships, some two-hundred warships in all, acted as a weapons platform on request from Federal Army authorities on shore.

Over the past few days Admiral Stoyan has daily engaged in hours-long video conferences with Chancellor Ford and other high-ranking officials in Salice, mostly regarding Stoyan's continual requests for further troops, and Ford's continual refusal to allow Velgast to become a drain on Federal resources until the Pudite intentions were known more completely, considering the recent attack on the Sacrosanct and subsequent military movements observed in the Dominion. The Federal Navy had been placed on full alert, and was converging to form a complete and battle-ready force, should the worst come before the Federation should desire it. Meanwhile, the army was in the process of full mobilization. Anyone living in those coastal cities large enough to warrant a naval base would have seen, in addition, a great number of amphibious craft being put to sea. No word was known regarding the government's plan of action following this mobilization.

A guard walks into Gov. Bactus' office.
"Governor, the building is secure, but it seems the the colonists are still attacking the guards you've put at the gate."
"How are our soldiers fairing in the streets? And what about the troops sent by forign powers?"
"If things continue down their current path, Takaluma will be ours in a matter of days."
"Good."
All of a sudden, shots were fired at the Governer's Palace. Guards rushed into the room.
"Governor, we need to take you to a more secure location. It seems the colonist have broken through the front gate and about 50 of them are storming the palace. We need to get you out of here now."
"We can leave through the escape tunnels below the palace. There's an entrance in my office, but it can only be closed from the outside so someone will need to stay behind to shut the door."
"I'll do it sir." A young guard raised his hand trembling.
"You are very brave. What is your name soldier?"
"Damien Karluk sir."
"You shall always be remembered Damien Karluk. Thank you."
Bactus and the guards left through the tunnels. Damien shut the door behind them. As the colonist stormed the palace Damien readied himself. When the first colonist rushed into the Govorner's Office Damien shot him down. One after another the colonist were shot down, but eventually there were to many for Damien to handle and he was killed by the revolting colonist. In a matter of hours Takaluma was lost. They renamed the city Freedom Town. It seems the loyalist were not fairing as well as they could.

The Colonial Revolutionist had won their war. The United Republic of Velgast had no power here. Governor Bactus had been imprisoned for crimes against humanity. The people were finally free.
