Shavou indeed was once the Shigatase's western jewel. It was one of the largest industrial centers in the country and because of that also one of the most densely populated cities in the country. Over 5 million people lived there before the start of the war but now Ritter would be shocked to find a non-combatant in the city that wasn't trying to get out. Slarvainian shelling and bombing runs had hit this city hard. It's once many factories almost all reduced to ruble. The towering sky scrapers that had dominated the skyline (The first sky scrapers in all of Shigatase) were now just shells of their former self, only the steel supports still poked out somewhat into the sky. Who knew how many dead could be laying inside the city...
Ritter had the fortunate task of maybe being the first on the Slarvainian side to get an estimate of that. He was the head commander of an assault of 100,000 men, who had been tasked to take the city and secure the airport (the one thing that hadn't been targeted in the bombings).
Ritter looked through his binoculars one last time. Straining to see if he could spot any enemy positions. He was unable to but he knew those rodents were there.
Ritter brought his sat phone to his ear.
"Commence the attack." he ordered.
His LAV's engine roared to life and the vehicle jolted as it started moving towards the ruined city. Over head there was an even louder choir of roaring as flights of A-10's came soaring over the Slarvainian ground troops to commence final bombing runs against the city.
FOB Watchtower
A company of 300 paratroopers load into their cargo Boeing 747, cleverly disguised with civilian markings so they don't get shot down.
"Everyone make sure you didn't forget anything, check your gear, check your provisions, check your chutes. You'll have about 3 minutes before we take off." says the company commander.
All of the paratroopers feel around for anything missing, and they all give their CO a signal that they are ready to go. The Boeing takes off and sets a course to drop the paratroopers near Shavou, where the paratroopers will be just out of sight from the Slarvainian war machine.
