Above: Government forces withdrawing from troubled South Rhemonia last year
(PC)- At about 4:30 this morning, tanks rolled into the regional capital in Eastern Rhemonia. Within half an hour, the entire city, along with all other major cities and towns in the region, had fallen under control of this armed force, meeting minimal resistance.
Hardline nationalist leader Vladimir Radchenko has, with the collaboration of several generals and admirals, seized control of the entire eastern naval arm (excluding the fleet of nuclear submarines), as well as the entirety of two divisions, and elements of a third one.
The president has issued a strong condemnation to Radchenko, however, other than vague assurances of punishment, the president outlined no specific plan to retake the region, or apprehend Vladimir.
However, even with this deceleration, tonight, a thick tension descends upon the entire nation. Inside sources have reported that Air Force officials are remaining neutral, and that other military divisions in the western part of the nation may take a similar line. However, it has been confirmed that the entirety of the I corps remains totally loyal to the president.
Tonight, all air force bases and nuclear submarine base Kivlov remain on high alert. The potential for nuclear weapons to slip into the wrong hands is a major concern for many top government officials.
Other governments have yet to issues any statements.
