Iron Ronin:
About eight hundred years prior to the present date, a small number of critically injured soldiers volunteered for an experimental project, where they were augmented with robotic parts to keep them alive and to let them return to battle. These troops were encased in bipedal walking machines (about 4 meters tall), which had two arms that allowed them to carry weapons. A computer module was implanted into their heads to aid them in combat and controlling the machines. These machines bore a certain resemblence to ancient Nipponese Samurai troops, albeit heavily armoured and much taller. These soldiers were to be the Empire's latest weapons against the attacking Federation. However, the project was shut down due to lack of funding and the newly-developed Niwatori walkers. Nevertheless, these troops were deployed to the front lines time and again, and proved to be very useful and powerful.
However, the men within were still humans, and could still die of old age. Remarkably, when the first soldier passed away within his armour, "he" continued to exist. Biologists and medical researchers found that while his body was dead, the electrical systems and the AI core were still keeping the brain alive somehow, meaning the man was now literally the machine. After a long period of adjusting to his new 'lifestyle' of not needing to eat or sleep, he rejoined the Imperial Army once more. Others were not so lucky.
By the present time, the men within have all passed away, leaving robotic shells that retain the personality and "soul" of the original user. Due to extensive upgrading and personal decoration, the units are now completely different from when they were first made. Their numbers have been reduced somewhat due to battlefield casualties. As they are technically dead, they thus require no sleep or food. This does have side effects, as some had gone insane due to the need to adapt to this new deathless, needless lifestyle, deserting and hiding out on barren asteroids or leaving the Imperial Space altogether (Some potential for other people to RP with single units, like in pirate RPs and such).
These soldiers still serve in the Imperial Military, as they have nowhere else to go. They run on solar energy, although internal batteries allow them to operate in dark environments for over a year. Their personalities vary, from those who still long to touch and taste, to those that have become little more than fighting machines, having lost all of their humanity through endless service. Experts and scientists are afraid to open up the surviving troops, as they do not know what would really be inside there after so long. Some also doubt the soldiers' apparent retainment of their 'souls', in that it may be that the computer has self-evolved into a form of artificial intelligence that mimics the soldier that was once within. Both cases are significant scientific breakthroughs for the Empire.

Basically Space Marine Dreadnoughts, with more Samurai-like features, somewhat like RA3's King Oni.

They're mostly going to be extremely rare, individually-named characters, so don't expect me to throw them away. Anyway, looking forward to the fight as well. It will be epic!
First one you'll meet will be General Yamana, a field commander who leads the Toishima Security Force in the Capital.

Compared to the minimal amounts of these, but it'll be pretty cool.
