I was thinking that since you're a fallout nation, and fallout tech is usually a circa 50's design with future powers, put a railgun on this.

Use it as your MBT, it fits the lore better.

Not exactly a Fallout nation, just borrowing tech and lore elements. The NFE is more cyberpunk-ish than retro-futuristic. Most of the stuff is meant to give off that type of "big and manly and tough" you'd expect from a scenario like Gears of War or Halo.

The '50s elements come in with cultural elements, such as paranoia-induced witch hunting, propaganda, and music, and it's mixed with blind support of centrism, semi-Huxleyan hedonism, and a bit more social liberalism progressive)

But, you did give me the idea of looking at older vehicle models and modernizing them. It fits well, since a lot of the NFE's tech is modernized variants of old-world stuff.
