"Keep your wits about you boys!" yelled a black haired man as his deep brown eyes peered over the edge of the trench that his squad sat in.
His combat uniform was adorned with various insignias and patches identifying him as a Staff Sargent. He cradled his C99-Firefly assault rifle in his arms as he scanned the horizon for hostile movement, hoping that today would be more quiet then most of his 'stay' in this hell hole. Altogether this was his 10th day of combat deployment in Zeronda, and the young NCO was no where near as combat proven as the rest of the regiment that he had been attached to. This young man's name was Staff Sargent Hisayuki Kekiono and he had only joined the OAF five weeks earlier. Hisayuki had heard stories that a few of the legendary Sayerets had found their way to Zeronda and where fighting on the front line, but this is an army and word of mouth was never to be trusted here. The young Kekiono looked to the rest of his squad sitting in the trench with him, A shorter girl with a similar combat uniform had been sitting next to him and was holding the same assault rifle as the Sargent in her hand.
The only difference between the two besides gender and age was the species, this girl had cat ears and a tail. The girl, Private Kikku hudeko, had cleverly hiden her feline ears under her helmet. The nekomimi's designation in the squad was radio operator, and she had dropped her rifle and started fumbling with the head set of the radio pack on her back. She was apparently arguing with a male on the other end, from the word she exchanged Hisayuki had gathered that the man his radio operator was arguing with a tank commander. Sure enough a few moments later a lone Panzarvagn 1 had rolled up to the bank behind them and rotated the turret to aim in the direction of the enemy front line. After the tank finished it's maneuver and craned it's periscope arm up to full extension the girl began to speak.
"It's 'bout f**king time!" she exclaimed with her tail waging in disapproval. She looked up at the towering tank behind them from the trench, due to the trench being dug into the ground the tank looked even bigger then it's already menacing form.
"I called for these screwballs five minutes ago!" Kikku said in disbelief, "and they had the nerve to tell me that 'they got lost', honestly!"
"Calm down..." Hisayuki said to the edgy young private, "I'm sure they wouldn't do this one purpose."
"Screw that!" Kikku said picking up her rifle again and after placing a fresh mag in the weapon she looked back to her SSGT, "what if we where attacked?" she asked questioningly.
"Where we?" Hisayuki rebutted sarcastically as he sighed and shook his head in a joking manner, "wow I really need to stop daydreaming." This comment only earned him a glare from the private and a chuckle from the other 3 members of his squad.
The rest of the squad included a funny looking girl with yellow eyes blustering a mortar and an FN-099 Oliu LMG which seemed too heavy for her to carry, an older looking black haired man with brown eyes and a scruffy short beard loading the tube of a SMAW Hellsinger while drinking water from a canteen, and finally a blonde haired teen-aged boy with a DMR-20 sitting next to him while he ate from an MRE and seemed to enjoy it. Across the line the seen was repeating itself over and over, multiple pieces of anti armor and anti air littered the front line with multiple Guyi howitzers and ATGM-7s covering the spacing in between. In total there where 1,200 troops, 78 tank, 98 tank destroyers, and multiple AA and artillery pieces spread across a one mile slice of upward sloping hills. From the map that the Sargent had gotten from the briefing HQ, he could see that the same line had been enacted down the length of the island with landmines and anti tank ditches guarding what the engineers had no time to build a defense on.

Within the heart of Oaledonia, the Grand Council had decided to convene about the coming war. The council room was quiet and hushed as the empress, Heida no Akyuu, took her seat at the head of the table. She looked at her underlings with mild worry about the future of the nation and it's colonies, unlike the rest of the government this young lady cared deeply for it's people. She looked to her best friend and political trainee, Chancellor Emiliette Rosera with caring and tired eyes. She turned to Prime minster Francis Hodel and her military adviser, General of OAF staff Aneto Lorie. These people would lead the Imperial Union in the following days and they would decide the future of Oaledonia.
Outside the grounds of the palace the mood was normal, the city stood glimmering in the mild midday summer sun. Within the city the multitude of marvelous buildings that seemed to stretch to the heavens above, as if trying to reach another unseen reality. The bustling capital city was as alive as ever as the sound of traditional kokyūs strumming near modern buildings, but on the ground most people opted to use traditional hakamas and kimonos instead of suits and ties, connecting the modern city with the nation's traditional past. On the palace ground, however, the mood was of suspense and frustration. The public and news media outlets all wanted an answer to two key questions, why was this happening and why ha the OAF failed to retake the islands?
"Well" Akyuu said with a sigh as she finally spoke in the council room, "What is our plan of action?"
"Your modesty" Lorie began "we have no word from our enemy as to why they have declared war, their intentions are still unclear."
"I see...." Akyuu replied with a worried tone, "well I don't expect them to tell us until we're the negotiation table"

"pfft" Aneto scarfed with an unsaved tone, "Immature animals... I knew that the honor in the world was all but lost, why not just let my men gas the islands?"
"Enough!" Akyuu yelled, "Our plan of action is clear, Emiliette will stay with me. You, however, are all adjourned" she said as the staff got up, bowed, and walked out of the room.
