Let me explain why Smoya's tactics are so ineffective.

Here is your average battleship. Battleship Iowa. We use this as an example to emote an Imperial naval ship.

This purple line represents roughly what area on the battleship that Smoya is firing at, however, the battleships are moving in a pincer formation towards the Smoyan lines.

In a pincer formation, this is roughly the area at which Smoya would be able to fire at. While this part is technically apart of a hull, it is hard to hit, and not very easy to fire from. Due to this, the Smoyan guns would not be very effective unless they tried a flanking maneuver to the side of the formation.

Also, on the subject of sea mines. More modern, sophisticated mines, take a long time to place underwater. Due to this, the only mines you would be able to place would be in your own lines, while the battlefield would be a constant source of fire, and my lines would have them instantly destroyed.

I stated MULTIPLE TIMES in my posts that they moved in pincer formation. If you bother to READ THE POST you would find this context. Don't you blame me on your illiteracy.
