Imperium Rising (OOC/Idea/Sign-up Thread)

Postby The Magus Imperium » Mon May 27, 2013 3:53 pm

Hello people of Nation-States; Neo Byzantine Empire here as an alter-nation I'm using for what I'm planning will be another Epic RP.

First let's go over the setting; this one's a bit of an odd duck; a Modern-Tech Fantasy, if you will.

The basic premise is; Magic existed among ancient Humans, only with a select few and even then these few had to be trained properly, less the results end in disaster. This powerful force made and broke Empires, from the great Mongolian Khanate of Genghis Khan to Alexander's great Empire, all these great Empires built primarily off the magical capabilities Men and Women behind them.

The last great mage-ruled Empire was, in fact, the Roman Empire; its entire lineage of Emperors up until Constantine being mages, members of a group known as the Magus Imperium, dedicated to locating and grooming young men and women with magical capabilities for rulership positions, end putting an end to all those corrupted by their great powers.

For a time, all was well until one unique and very dangerous fluke appeared; a man mysteriously born under mysterious circumstances to a mother who'd never once been touched by a man before; known to history as Jesus Christ. This man was one of the most powerful magic-users who ever lived, his "miracles", such as the resurrection of the dead and the curing of the ill, did in fact happen, but according to the Magus Imperium, these gifts did not come from any god, but were naturally granted to what they believed to be the elite of Humanity. Even the Ancient gods themselves were merely powerful mages who had seemed like gods and goddess' in the eyes of the people.

A cunning manipulator, Jesus tricked masses of peoples into believing he was the son of a god, all to advance his ultimate goal of destroying Magic Users, whom he viewed as a corrupt, cancerous plague on the world. Truth be told, the Magus Imperium had grown corrupt over time, manipulating the normal population of the known world for some time before the birth of this "Messiah". The ancient world eventually split in two over this; the Christian Elite surviving after Jesus' death, resurrection, and mysterious disappearance, and the Magus Imperium.

Both groups viewed each other very differently, the Christians looking on the mages as corrupt beings, their only purpose in life to be used for their cause of wiping Magic from the face of the earth, while the Magus Imperium saw itself and all mages as superior to normal humans, above them and, due to their capabilities, worthy of ruler over all mankind. The conversion of the Empire to Christianity saw the breaking to the Imperium's power, Mages hunted down in the so-called "Dark Ages" as witches, warlocks, and burned at the stake simply because they were gifted with Magic.

The remnants of the Imperium scattered, vowing to change their ways, devoting themselves to liberating as many magic-sensitive children as possible, lest they be killed or captured by the Church and manipulated to kill others of their kind. Though it was not an easy feat, magic has remained alive thanks to the Imperium's efforts, a long-lasting war about to draw to a close as the Modern Era sets in, the stalemate to be broken by another phenomena; a magic-user either as or more powerful than the "Messiah" over two thousand years ago...

-----

There you have it, our setting. Basically; this is an individual-character RP, though with the proper authorization, one may control NPC's. You can play as either a mage working for the Imperium, the Church, or one that has not yet been discovered by either group, whether it be through luck or perhaps a wealthy family spending thousands of dollar yearly to cover up your true capabilities. One doesn't have to limit themselves to just a mage, either; you can be a human working for one of the churches mage-hunting units, an Imperium Sympathizer, or someone caught at the wrong place, at the wrong time who now gets involved in the conflict on one side, the other, or as a third party.

Now for some rules;

No Godmodding! Magic-users may be powerful, but all except the case of the fluke specialize in one kind of Magic, whether it be one of the various types of Elemental, Illusion, Healing, and Et Cetera... This will play as your strength, and your weakness as well, for example; healer-class mages can only learn or know healing-based magics and certain defensive spells; Pyromancers can only learn the very powerful, destructive fire-based spells, but no defensive-type magics; Illusion-type mages man manipulate the minds of all but the strongest-willed and properly trained. All mages have their sets of strengths and weakness' and I'll be creating several characters whom I will play as to serve as examples as to how I want them to play out.

No one-liners! Nothing is more annoying than having to sit and scroll through an entire page of useless one-liners that barely describe anything. Tell us what your character is thinking or feeling! And if another player hasn't been very descriptive in their post, that's not excuse for you to write a quick one-liner, think of something else to talk about in the post. In summary; a minimum of four sentences is required.

No killing other players! Without permission, of course. There will be some PvP elements later on in-game, but unless another player opens themselves up to the death of his/her character, all your attempts to kill another player will be just that; attempts, nothing more.

No bad Grammar/Spelling! This is almost as annoying as one-liners. Please, use a spell-checking program. The last thing I, or any other long-time Roleplayer, wants to see is a whole post full of grammar and spelling mistakes. One or two that you may miss until after posting is understandable, but as far as I'm concerned; a full sentence of poor conventions means you're not trying. You will be called out for that and told to put more effort into it, failure to comply will result in a ban.

Have fun! Finally; enjoy the Roleplay. If it's not to your liking, then leave. Finally, while it is a secondary theme in here, the matter of religion is just a supporting theme here. There is no good or evil here, it's just two groups fighting against each other for entirely selfish reasons, I don't want to see people making the Church out to be the hero's or people bashing the church in OOC banter, you'll have plenty of time for that ICly.

Now; for the Character Sheets;

Name:

Age (Minimum, 17):

Gender:

Type (Human or Mage):

Affiliation (Magus Imperium, Christian church, Third Party *Please specify*, Optional, for a time):

Specialization (Magic Type for Mages, Skill Set for Humans, if at all):

Description (Physical and Personality):

History:

-----

Name: DJ Spirit (Pheobe Meriwether)

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Type: Mage

Affiliation: None, as of yet

Specialization: Illusion Magic

Description: "Spirit" is a Five feet, 11 Inch tall Caucasian woman with red-dyed hair and grey-blue eyes. She can usually be found in her club, where she enjoys spending most of her time, partying and playing music for the crowds that generally tend to frequent the place. Overall, she's a friendly and eccentric person, indifferent to many larger issues, caring more about making things enjoyable for people as opposed to making any dramatic changes in the world. In other words; she keeps her head down and tries to stay out of trouble.

History: She lived a fairly normal life, up until puberty, when most mages begin discovering their true potential. She'd always been regarded by her friends as being one to make everyone happy, no matter how sad, angry, or depressed they were, always giving off that uplifting positive aura. So, naturally, when she discovered her ability to manipulate the minds of others, she would often do so to keep others happy and optimistic, whether it be bringing pleasant memories to the surface during time of domestic troubles or helping to remind a couple of why they fell in love with each other in the first place, she tends to be there to help keep people happy with high-spirits. This isn't to say she does this with everyone, far from it, as she recognizes some causes are just lost, though still, she does what she can to help any around her to have high-spirits. Of course, these aren't the limitations to her powers, as she can do far more with the mind, though this is what she seems set on doing, lest she be forced to breaks someone down in self-defense.

-

Name: Elyse "Tempest" Marcelyn

Age: 17

Type: Mage

Affiliation: None, as of yet

Specialization: Elemental; Pyromancy (Fire)

Description: Elyse is a young, Caucasian woman with bright-red hair, natural red eyes, and various scars all over her body from beatings she received from her parents when she was younger. She stands five feet eleven inches tall and is completely and utterly insane, prone to violence in the blink of an eye with oftentimes disastrous results for those experiencing her fury, as well as those nearby who may not have provoked her, but were unlucky enough to be in the way at the time. She tends to find an escape from this sadistically violent part of her through art, which formerly served as her escape from the cruelty of her parents.

History: Elyse's story is indeed a tragic one. It began well enough, however; a simple childhood, free of worry, save from her oftentimes fanatically christian parents, whose only real demands were for her to have faith. She never took a personal interest in the religion itself, playing along with them until the fateful day small fires began mysteriously starting whenever she was sad, angry, scared, or just so happened to be thinking about the element in-depth. When she learned she could control this, she informed her parents, who considered this a sign of demonic possession, going to extreme length to "Purify" her, including forcing her into fasts, locking her in tight, confined spaces, and preforming unnecessary exorcisms. When her mother was pregnant with twins, the cruel abuse died down somewhat, the seeds of hate already sown within young Elyse, however. When the twins were born, however, the male died whereas the female lived, Elyse's parent blaming her and the "Demon" within her for the death of their son. One night, they had come to her room to preform another exorcism, walking in at the wrong time, seeing some of her works of art, which were ultimately impressive, though they took this as a sign she traded her soul and the soul of her brother for such abilities. Tearing her canvas apart and beating her, the young Elyse had enough; grabbing her father by the throat and burning him, his scream of pain like music to her as she lit him, her mother, and everything around her on fire, laughing as her life and family burned down around her, nothing left but her in the aftermath of the violent blaze, Police and Firefighters finding her sitting just right outside her home, destroyed entirely, Elyse committed to a mental institution afterwards, accused of starting the fire, resulting in the deaths of her mother, father, and infant sister, though only two charred corpses were recovered in the aftermath, the ones of the mother and father, the baby's body never having been found in the one year since the incident.

-

(For once, I'm going to leave the roles of the Major Characters to the players. If you are an experienced, trustworthy Roleplayer, then Telegram me asking for a Major-Character Role, such as the leader of the Imperium Remnants, The Fluke, or the commander of the Churches Mage unit. If these positions aren't taken, I'll play them myself.)

-----

There you go; my OOC proposal for an Epic RP three hours in the making. Have a good day, ladies and gentlemen, and I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

I just realized I didn't make this clear;

For anyone looking to play a Primary Character; they're pre-convinced characters, so be sure you'll fit their personality styles to get the most out of playing them.

For example; Julian is the young, ambitious leader of the Imperium Remnants, his ambitions being to restore the Imperium to what he believes to be its rightful place in the world, and though the Imperium is divided over whether they should return to the old ways entirely or make some change, Julian advocates Mage Supremacy, though he generally means well and, unlike some of the others who support him, he doesn't look upon humans with as much distaste.

Christianus is a devoted, faithful servant of the Church, believing in their fabricated goal of "taming" those able to use magic, so that they might create a better world. Like Julian, he is young and ambitious, however; he has been fooled by the church into believing that their cause is the righteous one, Christianus tending to look upon Imperium Mages with contempt for what he believes to be; "Arrogance and a lack of responsibility for their powers".

Diana is a well-meaning young woman, almost into adulthood and just freshly graduated from High School. She has absolutely no idea the Imperium exists or that they and the Church are after her for her ability to master the whole broad spectrum of spells that only one other in the past has been known to do. She lives a simple life and couldn't be happier, somewhat reluctant to seek out the great destiny that awaits her, whether it be restoring the Imperium and Destroying the Church or Vice Versa.

If you feel like you could play any of these characters well and would like to play as them, feel free to Telegram me and we can arrange that.

OoC: Ok. Just want to state that I'll be using my IC Nation and characters but this will not be canon as I'm strictly MT

Name:Napoleon vi Valyria also goes by several other names as listed in mi factbook.

Age (Minimum, 17):29

Gender:Male

Type (Human or Mage):Male

Affiliation (Magus Imperium, Christian church, Third Party *Please specify*, Optional, for a time):The Valyrian Catholic Church or more specifically the Order of the Temple of Mount Zion(The Knights Templar)

Specialization (Magic Type for Mages, Skill Set for Humans, if at all):Pryomancer

Description (Physical and Personality):Having spent most of his formative years in a Order training camp in an undisclosed locations being groomed for leadership and combat, Napoleon while being sheltered for most his younger years, is by no means lacking in social skills or intelligence. In fact the majority of his training was spent on learning to conceal himself and his abilities from others and being able to blend in with the general population.

As such, Napoleon is reserved and generally thought of as a ''quiet'' person to those not among his inner circle. During his time touring the world, he learned a great many secrets in relation to the truths of the world and the experience changed him greatly. In light of certain knowledge that he obtained, he resolved to enacted a Final Solution to the eternal conflict between Imperium and the Church in order to finally bring peace to the world

History:Napoleon grew up as a sheltered member in the Valyrian Aristocracy, at least he did until his proficiency for fire related ''accidents'' was discovered by his Uncle a Maester in the covert Order of the Knights Templar's Inner Sanctum. Realizing his nephew's potential, he persuaded the boy's mother to allow him to take him away for training, as his father had done for him previously and his father before him as they came from an particularly gifted line of Mages, and had used their powers previously to obtain power and wealth before being invited to join the Fraternity as they were called.

Napoleon was spirited off to a Order training camp for most of his youth, developing his skills. After he was deemed proficient enough to be released into the general populace as a covert member of the order. After his release he returned back to high society a change and different man, more stoic than his old self and more knowledgeable and resourceful than many of his peers ever could be. Eventually, he left Valyria for a time to begin an worldwide tour across the world to visit sites close to the order and it was during his tour that he discovered his Royal and unique heritage.

After learning of his unique bloodline he returned to Valyria and set about planning a coup in his native country which he successfully executed with the Order's help in the early 2000s. After he ascended the Valyrian throne, he transformed the country into a haven for church affiliated mages.

Well, if that's the case; I suppose we could couple the Real World and NS-verse here, then. It doesn't have to be Canon for anyone participating, as this is just for fun and to tell an epic story I thought of. Anyway, welcome aboard Val, and feel free to post in the IC thread whenever you have the time to.

Next item of business; a quick announcement for any possible players:

Remember; you can opt for a Third-Party, but I expect at least a few to take the sides of the Church and the Imperium. Your Third-Party, if you opt for it, can also be in support of either of the main groups, or against both. Finally; if you decide to stay out of matters, that's only a temporary state, as you will eventually have to choose a side, the option for neutrality here exists to allow you some time to decide whose cause is the more worthy one.

Name: Johan Traoré.

Age: Twenty-eight.

Gender: Male.

Type: Human

Affiliation: The Serene Janissary Order (Explanation below.)

Specialization: Holds a doctorate in Physics, a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and knows first aid. Practices mixed martial arts and holds a light fire-arms permit.

Description: Johan is a calm, mild-mannered black man, six foot two tall with a bright smile and pleasant brown eyes. He would have dark brown hair if he didn't constantly shave his head, and he keeps fit by means of his handler job and personal training.

History: Johan was one of a promising crop of students from Cape Town, SA. He was first tagged by the Janissary Order after a near-death incident involving a mage left him obsessed with the paranormal; after completing his doctorate in Physics at the University of Cape Town, he wrote a series of controversial- but highly accurate- documents concerning the nature of thaumaturgy and the existence of mages among people. It was then that, on a dark Cape night, four officers from the New Lowlands' Office of External Affairs kidnapped him and brought him to Batavia.
It was clear as soon as Johan accepted a position within the Janissaries that he would prove to be a highly effective handler; after completing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Batavia, he became interested in the case of Anna Derbeek, and requested her as his 'project.' During the initial rehabilitation stage, he took up mixed martial arts and marksmanship in order to relate to Anna more; in the process the two of them developed a cohesive professional relationship. He has continued to be her handler ever since, sending her off onto various dangerous but moderately important missions, waiting for the 'big break' that he knows she can complete.

Name: Anna Derbeek

Age: Twenty-one.

Gender: Female.

Type: Mage.

Affiliation: The Serene Janissary Order.

Specialization: Elemental; Terramancy (Earth & Minerals)

Description: Anna is a five-foot-seven, brown-haired, hazel-eyed young woman of Javan extraction with a fiery streak

History: Originally the daughter of a penniless imam in a North Sumatran village, Anna came to the attention of the Janissary Order after applying for the New Lowlandian Armed Forces; specifically, after completing Basic Training with a number of paranormal occurrences. After being snapped up by her handler, she was given a simple choice; cut off her ties and join the Janissary Order, or officially cease to exist be placed on the front line of the practically endless guerilla war dragging on in West Papua. With no real choice, she agreed to sign up, and was quickly transported to Batavia to be part of Janissary Traoré's two-man team; a few years of training prepared her for use of her magical abilities in the field, and a few low-key assignments kept her guard up. She has since developed a fairly close professional relationship to Traoré, and is noted within Janissary documents as a 'potentially highly effective reserve agent.'

The Order is thought to be a nigh-on omniscient, all-powerful entity, similar to the CIA or Illuminati according to conspiracy theorists. It is said that they hold sway over all the governments of the world, that both the Church and the Imperium fears them, that they will soon swoop out of the darkness to claim the throne of the world.

This is nothing but a barefaced lie, or as it is described by the Stadtholder, 'Masturbatory fantasies furthered by a hidden propaganda campaign.'

The Janissary Order is a multinational organization, dominated by the New Lowlands, which holds neither Mages nor Humans in contempt; instead it proffers to promoting research of the 'thaumological condition' as the Janissaries term it, serving as a support group for Mages, a paramilitary order, and a clandestine intelligence service, with reach across the New Lowlands, Oceania, and the Indian Subcontinent, as well as significant powers of observation in Muslim-dominated regions of the world. It has scope and ambition, but is best described as the junior member of a 'triumvirate' of clandestine powers, or more often derided as an overgrown national intelligence agency.

The Serene Janissary Order was originally a social society in the state of Aceh, which moved it's headquarters to Batavia shortly after the conquest of Sumatra by the Dutch. Composed of Muslim spice traders, it was a leisure group, whose main interest was the discussion of new developments in science, the discussion of the Qu'ran and other holy books, and investigation of the paranormal based chiefly around shooting startled mages and poking their dead bodies with sticks. (Mind you, in accordance with standards of chemical science, the sticks were made of platinum. But you get the idea.) The initial sheer incompetence of the group kept it from being hunted down by either of the major factions, and it continued to bumble in the dark throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.

In 1939, with a Japanese invasion looming, the New Lowlandian government quietly assumed control of the Order- which they had been observing for some time- and more significantly, their research papers. In a quest to find new and quicker ways to dissuade the Empire of the Rising Sun, the New Lowlandian government gave the Order a 'fuck-ton' of funding (exchange rate equivalent to roughly half a billion NSD- the 'fuck-ton' is an accepted currency unit in the New Lowlands) in order to pursue something called the 'Salibi' (Crusader) project, which involved catching mages, giving them an offer they couldn't refuse, and attaching them to so-called 'handlers.'

The project was a resounding success, the Janissary Order was preserved as a continuing institution of the Lowlandian Armed Forces throughout the War on Japan, and funding continued to filter down to them. After the end of WW2, the New Lowlands' decided that it was about time that the other secret groups learnt a thing or two, and unleashed the Order in a night of devastation across the (admittedly, rather few) bases and servants of either the Church or the Imperium, purging them and revealing the new existence of the Order. Shortly after, the Order began operating in a newly-independent India and across Oceania, quietly batting off attempts by either the Church or the Imperium to gain the upper hand in the territories of interest to the multinational organization.

[Might want to move this to P2TM.]

(Welcome, Lowlands. I've set our setting now; a tragedy has just occurred in New York's Times Square, conducted by Imperium Mages aggravated by the Church. Your characters are accepted and can be deployed to investagate the Phenomena whenever you feel ready.

Also; seriously, people: We need more players. It doesn't matter if you're a strict MT, PT, FT, or FanT player, Valerya's already set that example by participating even though this technically won't be Canon for him. Like I said before; this doesn't have to be Canon, it's all for fun, and besides; the more the merrier.

Name: Timothy Balton

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Type: Mage

Affiliation: Magus Imperium

Specialization: Hydromancy

Description (Physical and Personality): Timothy stands five-foot-ten and weights 150 pounds. His body is a prime example of a "swimmers build".

He is prone to sudden mood swings and violent outbursts. Timothy has an above-average intelligence, but has never really applied himself academically.

History: The only son of a Phalnian noble, Timothy grew up in a life of privilege. His days were spent with private tutors and world-class tutors. He was clearly an intelligent boy but, never seemed to show interest in the classroom, to the dismay of his academic mother.

His true passion was the water. Timothy, would spend every free moment in the water. It could be a pool, river, lake, ocean. It didn't matter, just as long as it was water. The water was where he first discovered he had the power.

At the age of seven he and his family were visiting Phalnia's Southern Coast. While swimming away from the shore Timothy decided to try and get the water to "jump" like he had at the lake a week earlier. While practicing this new form of entertainment, Tim was unaware of the figure watching him from the coast. This figure turned out to be Alan Blackwell, an aged operative of the Magus Imperium, visiting Phalnia to investigate premonitions of magical presence on the island nation.

Using his gift of Manipulation, Alan was hired on as tutor for young Tim. For the next eleven years Tim and Alan trained in secret. Tim became a full fledged member of the Magus Imperium and a highly skilled Hydromancer. During this time Alan arranged for Tim to travel with him to distant lands where he met mages and performed tasks for the Imperium.

Shortly following his twentieth birthday, Tim found Alan dead. The old man had died peacefully in his sleep, holding a letter for Tim. In it he explained to Tim that it was now his duty to carry on Alan's work. As part of Alan's last assignment from Imperium he had sensed a flash of power from somewhere in America. Now Tim was tasked with finishing Alan's work and bringing this new power into the folds of the Imperium.
