Rhodesian Annexation of the Congo (earth2)

Postby Rhodesian States » Wed Nov 11, 2009 5:19 pm

Grahame Smith was in his office all day articulating on his ultimatum to General Macel Babango of Rhodeisna States closest neighbour the Republic of the Congo, The Capital of which (Brazzaville) was merely kilmoteres away from New salisbury across the Congo river.

This however is where the similiarities end. Whereas Rhodesian States rose like a Nation States Pheonix from the Ashes, The Republic of Congo (also a former Hirzigstani colony) did the polar opposite and has decended into seemingly perpetual anarchy and is Babangos private fiefdom of sorts.

Smith was somewhat satisfied with his prepared speech and then ordered the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation to transmit a Live feed across the nation to issue his declaration of war..

"My Dear law abiding citizens of Greater Rhodesia, The Desecration of the Rhodesian States Hedegmony by the Imposter to the congolese Presidency will not stand.. Rhodesian States will not sit Idly by and witness the destruction and barbaric pillaging of one of the many diamonds of Africa by self proclaimed president for life Marcel Babango.

Allready the Rhodesian States has recieved a huge influx of White refugees fleeing from what Babango has described as "retributionary action" against the people that help civilize the Interior of Central Africa, I ordered Babango to cease and desist such activity and stand down from his presidency by a designated deadline of 1200 midday, I am saddened to tell you good citizens i have heard no reply from this insatiable savage, so at this time the Rhodesian States and the Republic of the Congo are offially at war"

To: Grahame Smith
Rhodesian States
Subject: Democratic Republic of Congo
-
The Democratic Republic of Congo has not fallen into a state of anarchy as stated. As a former state within the Commonwealth of Hirgizstan the government has held on, albeit with a tenuous hold, to control. Military actions against the DRC are unwarranted and will only help to break down order. Your actions are unprovoked and will be responded to accordingly. Any military movement against Congo will result in the appropriate reply by the armed forces of the New African Republic.

Signed,
Ngozi Baruti
President
New African Republic

"That cheeky Kaffir Baruti thinks he can dictate the affairs of an entire continent?" seargent Ackerman casually yelled as the first contigent of 15,000 Rhodesian State troops landed on the other side of the congo river to a hail of sporadic enemy gun fire.

"Well yes sir they believe they have a divine mandate to rule africa of sorts" Corporal Simons replied but was somewhat rendered mute by the first Rhodesian Mig strike force overhead.

The ground force attack was going like clockwork, the resistance in Brazzaville was undermined somewhat by the seeming non chalance of the upper echelons of congolese power who have fled the city and have set up ther new headquarters up north in a matter of days leaving the Brazzaville national guard to haphazardly defend the city.

The first Rhodesian modified Rooikat armoured fighting vehicle was torn asunder by a congolese R.P.G Salvo in downtown Brazzaville the occupants were set ablaze by a molotov cocktail that entered through the shattered hatch as they attempted to climb out, but they were largely unnoticed in the intense fighting that has stalled the somewhat complacently advancing Rhodesian forces.

The Holy Empire of Serrland, while waiting to take an official stance on the matter, would like to see some indication that the Congolese people will be represented in the government of the Rhodesian States. We also urge restraint in use of military force, especially when civilian life is threatened.

Serrland, in order to help alleviate any potential hardships for the people of Brazzaville, offers two convoys of twelve trucks each to deliver bottled water and canned vegetables to the people of Brazzavile. The Foreign Ministry of Serrland requests permission to send 60 peacekeepers to aid in the distribution of the bottled water and food, under supervision of a joint command from Serrland and Rhodesia.

With all due respect,
Usulim Alali

“Take a division from our Ethiopian theater of operations,” questioned General Oofsu?

Oofsu was the Republic’s highest ranking general and in charge of the Ethiopian operation. He was a small man, somewhat heavy set. His face wore all the signs of a traveled soldier; a thick grey beard covered his sagging jaw line. His combat experience was limited; he saw action as a colonel during the Republic’s previous excursion into the Congo with the former Commonwealth. Peace had ensued and his role was reduced to a desk job, keeping all parts of the military moving. Now he had the chance to put his knowledge and his army into action and we wasn’t pleased losing ten thousand soldiers.

“That’s correct,” replied Baruti calmly, “the situation is critical in Congo. Rhodesian troops are moving on the capital as we speak. We cannot wait to mobilize. You have those units available and ready.”

Oofsu sat quietly for a moment, seeming to agree with the rhetoric.

“I haven’t been blind to the situation. We estimate roughly 15,000 troops currently engaged.”

Baruti nodded, “You’ll be given full air support. They are a new state, troops, material, and funds for that matter will be hard to come by. We aren’t here to take the offensive you know that.”

“Yes…of course. I understand the operation.”

“What division will you use?”

Oofsu smiled at the question. “I’ll be using the 9th.”

Baruti nodded again, somewhat displeased.

“The Old Continentals,” he mustered, “my son.”

--

The 9th Continentals were being transferred to the M’Banza – Kongo, a base in Northern Angola. It was a mere 153 miles from the Rhodesian capital of Kinshasa, or New Salisbury. The location itself caused a problem. The main objective of the operation wasn’t to invade the newly formed Rhodesian states, but a small sliver of land stood between Congo and the Republic. They had the option of moving through the territory or skirt around it by way of the ocean and land troops in Congo. The latter would certainly take more time. Either way the mission was the same. Secure Kinshasa and put pressure on the Rhodesian capital forcing a cease-fire.

The location, while uncomfortably close, allowed for full air support, an advantage that simply couldn’t be outmatched. The Rhodesian air force was outnumbered and outgunned. The main naval fleet of the Republic, the famed September Fleet, was stationed at Walvis Bay, just down the coast. It would be operational in mere days. The 9th Division, which drew its roots back to the Republics founding, was a mechanized division. Speed was its main advantage. Hopefully the show of force would be enough to reach a ceasefire without much bloodshed.

There was no need for a response, no reason to dignify a clearly unintelligent question. Their history was incorrect, their geography flawed, and their statements ill conceived. It was understood that no reason could be had. The Rhodesians had chosen their fate. What could have ended as a simple stand down with no blood lost was quickly turning into a full blown war. It looked as if the Rhodesians had chosen to fight for some ill placed patriotism.

The 9th had successfully been transferred to the base outside of M’Banza – Kongo. They were simply awaiting the operational code word that would start their mission. Meanwhile two more divisions were being mobilized that were not originally part of the Ethiopia campaign. It would take longer but it would keep the original strength of that operation at reasonable levels.

The other two divisions were both armored divisions, the 17th and 18th, based out Beaufort West and Middleburg in South Africa. That would bring the operations total troop strength to 45,000, ten thousand from the 9th and another thirty from the armored division.

The relative proximity of the conflict allowed a number of air bases to contribute allowing for air supremacy. The September Fleet, the nation’s only attack fleet, had already left port from Walvis Bay and was making north to join the coming fight.

It was a powerful show of force, certainly one that could not be matched by the new Rhodesian government. Hopefully, through all the red tape of their government, reason would prevail.

the intractable situation would send any normal Head of state crying appeasements and platitudes to delay the seeming inevitability of defeat to a much larger force but the Prime Minister was odly calm, unmoved by the Omnipresent threat of brink.

Order the Withdrawel from the Congo and send our Battalions to our entire southern border with Brink Smith ordered to his chief of staff with the grace and vernacular eloquence of statesmen of old.

what the intentions were from here was anyones guess

The operational codeword never came. The 9th was forced to stand down. Sense, for a brief moment perhaps, had come to the Rhodesians. Only for a brief moment did this last, as the Rhodesians began a march southward, towards the Rhodesian – Republic border.

What the Rhodesians were planning on accomplishing was still unknown. The 9th was still on alert, the two armored divisions still mobilizing, the various airbases still running elevated patrols, and the September Fleet only a few miles off the coast of Rhodesia. The Republic was still ready to deal with this Rhodesian threat. Despite this continued presence, the Republic had made no threats towards the Rhodesian homeland and had kept its word having not used force after the Rhodesian stand down.

The next move was in the hands of the Rhodesians.
