You've been away a while so it might take a while to bring you to speed.

But pretty much we've decided that in order to do away with the endless 1st Contact RP's the galaxies civilizations are united in a UN-style conglomeration we've nicknamed the Republic. We've also agreed on a standardization of FTL and therefore FTL Comms.

Wouldn't a federation make more sense? I mean, I'm assuming they still maintain a fair amount of autonomy, to allow for wars/diplomacy/whatnot.

Irregardless, dibs plucky outsider faction that rejected the intragalactic conglomerate and rattles sabers at said conglomerate for no real reason.

Okay. I'm also in agreement with G-Tech that we should rename the Republic to be the Federation since it makes more sense.

I'm not really a fan of this entire idea in general actually. If I wanted my nation to be a part of a republic/federation I would have joined something like the star wars galaxy or something; especially since you don't seem willing to give people a choice in the matter. The same with all of this talk about standardizing FTL and/or weapons and languages. If I wanted such a thing, I would have just copypasta'd some generic shit, slapped a name on it, and called it my nation. I wouldn't have put in a crap load of time and effort making my nation different if I intended it to share everything with X number of other nations.

As it stands now though, I don't see this nation participating in the new far as it is being discussed. Maybe I'll create some useless bland nation to use for it but I don't really have time to run multiple nations.

Then don't. Yeah, this has its criticisms, and yes, it limits personal freedoms when it comes to apps, but perhaps that's a good thing. It goves a fleshy backstory to the universe and saves the time of the shit like First Contact Threads. This won't, by any means, limit a nation to such an extent in which they're considered bland, unless the author of the nation makes it so.

That was one idea. I had another for a race of nomads based on the Mongols. Even had a quote for some dialogue during a diplomacy thread.
