The first one was great. This one kinda didn't go so well. And the third most likely won't be known as FAR.

What will you call it? NEAR's name will now be obsolete!

Any who, the first one was great. Or, atleast I hear. I wasn't around for FAR 1.
Please call me 'Canuck.'
Also, here's my Factbook WIP Factbook.

It was great. And I don't know, but that was the point. :P
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Ok, I know I don't carry any wait here, but I still want to give a suggestion that I was thinking about. I suggest that their should be some technology that connects every civilization. Whether it's some kind of FTL drive or some super advanced AI, or a weapon of some sort or even something left behind by a precursor race. Whatever it is, whenever a civilization discovers it, it leads to them making first contact.

Also, Toishima I loved you app. Especially the language part. All too often, FT rps fall victim to universal translators.
A cactolith is a quasihorizontal chonolith composed of anastomosing ductoliths whose distal ends curl like a harpolith, thin like a sphenolith, or bulge discordantly like an akmolith or ethmolith.

I've put forward the suggestion that every civilization old and young all use the same FTL drive, perhaps an Alcubierre one. I will submit the details soon.

I think we need to get Tantalus to create a new map for us - or for us to just recycle the old one...

And I think the app is just about done though, I'll apply some code to it then send it to Sox, then we can begin work on the OP.

Okay then, I do believe that the app at it's current point is the best one we have thus far.

Code: Select all

Foreign Policy and relations with other Civilizations:
History within the Republic:
Governmental attitude toward the Republic: (Government's attitude. May be different from the normal people's perception)
People's attitude towards the Republic: (The people must be heard. Could include more info on the Republican Language's proliferation)

Anyway, I propose the standardization of FTL as being a part of the Republic; a practically universal drive shall we say, giving everybody a speed limit and with a reason for people to find the Republic and be made aware of it's presence. As noted in the app there will have been a time in the past where your civilization will have unlocked the secrets of FTL and journey through an extra spacial dimension shortening journeys drastically.

In this dimension though there is a constant signal of rhythm, echoing through the void of hyperspace. It's a beacon that leads the follower toward the Capital of the Republic and is what has allowed all of our civilizations to find it.

This standardization will also provide a reason why nobody has left the Cluster and go for the Main Galaxy - there will simply not be enough traction in intergalactic space for a ship to get anywhere in the fourth-dimension. Without the gravitational fields of stars to utilize it will be like trying to run across a slick, icy lake, your legs might move but you won't get anywhere.

Okay then; the only things left are the rules and tech guidelines (which we can copy-paste, though I'd advise just getting rid of the tech guidelines), the map (again, copy-paste) and to figure out some more history to the Republic (which we can do once we actually get some member-states). We also need to figure out what we do for the Capital.

I'd say a single space-station or planet, preferably controlled by me or another founder nation.

Well, it could be a planet owned entirely by the Republic and by no other individual members.

Aha, I got it.

We make the Capital an Orbital; a large Halo-structure made of curved sections which fit together to form the entire circle. Each member nations gets one of these sections and when each of them are together then they literally form the Republic.

Fantastic. In the middle of the Halo would be where they all congregated.

Yup, I propose a big circular station right in the center where Hub is - Hub being the AI in charge of solely managing the Orbital and it's citizens. If necessary I can control him as part of my AI-nation.

I'm designing the map as we speak. ^^

EDIT: Before I set the grid on an actual galaxy backdrop, what type of galaxy are we doing this round?

We've decided on a Globular Cluster, so perhaps something like this.

And how would we like the X/Y axes to be labelled? Will zero start from the left corner of the map, or shall the center of the map be 0,0 and thus leave us with the possibility of negative XY values?

Perhaps just going with having zero in the top left to make it simpler.

Hmm? What's this?

I've asked him to withdraw his application from NEAR after I offered him a spot on the acceptance council, because I'd prefer the members of the governing body of the FAR/whatever we'll call it to be clear or independent from the NEAR, since I don't want this group having anything to do with NEAR.
