Angoulême - Today, the Popular Assembly held a vote on a legislation that would make homosexuality formally illegal. The result was 441 MPs for, 164 MPs against, and 5 MPs undecided. The legislation then was passed to the Royal Assembly, where it was approved with 562 Lords in favor and 48 Lords against. The legislation, which bans the expression of homosexual tendencies in any form, will be enforced after a 14-day grace period.

The topic of homosexuality has not been subject to legislature since 1691, when the Church was discharged of all political and legislative rights. Since then, homosexuals' rights were not subject to explicit prohibition or tolerance, but homosexuality has been, and still is today, a taboo practice in the Haguenauvian culture.

Recently, the influx of outside media has brought many members of both the Haguenau Conservative Party and the Independent Haguenau party to consider a formal prohibition. The Liberal Federalist Party fiercely opposed to such a legislation, but their small number in the Popular Assembly (33 seats, 5%) prevented them from stopping the legislation.

A spokesperson from the Haguenau Conservative Party said that this legislation was passed to protect the values and ideals of the UKH, adding that homosexuals are defacing the culture of the nation. He advised that homosexual citizens of the UKH should emigrate from the nation, turn to heterosexuality, or at the very least content themselves with asexuality.

This is a blatant discrimination against gays! What have they done to you, I ask, what? You are unnecessarily banning a harmless practice! As such, we shall not tolerate such intolerance. We shall hereby commence a blockade and embargo on you nation. You are given 24 hours to legalize homosexuality or we will take action against you.

Signed,
Gustav Monroe

Though Jiangnandiqu disapproves of the banning of homosexuality in Haguenau, it is currently fighting against Deemos alongside Haguenau so it cannot afford relations to be strained with the UKH. As such, Jiangnandiqu announces that it will welcome any homosexuals from the UKH with open arms.

We the People and the Republic of Apto, do not condemn nor do we commend the decision of UKH to ban homosexuality. We advice ALL nations who would take military action against UKH to stop. Instead we suggest a more peaceful solution that does not require bloodshed. If UKH allows it all nations who are willing to adopt homosexuals may adopt them. We as a nation are more than willing to do so.

Respectfully yours,
The Republic of Apto

Greetings, UKH,

We have noticed that several countries - many of whom are communist/socialist - have become hostile towards you. The communist agenda of some aside, we feel that this is a gross enroachment on your national sovereignty - especially as some have declared the intent to go to war against you! Even though you offered a 14-day period for homosexuals to either change their orientation or leave the country - its not as if you've sent death squads to knock on everyone's door! We are hearby offering support to you, and we will be more than willing to let you trade with us tarrif free to get around embargos. Our primary exports are rare metals such as Tungsten and Rhenium, steel, electronics, and various other manufactured goods, including arms.

To all hostile nations: we are offering a 24 hour grace period from which to back off. Otherwise, we will become militarily involved, without restriction.

To all allied nations: thank you for standing up for such a blatant violation of national sovereignty. We are glad to assist, and please do inform us if anything is needed.

Thank You,
Riysian Ministry of Defense

Greetings,

Who do you think you are, dictating what our people should and should not believe! Need I remind you that the Members of Parliament who voted on this issue have been democratically elected to represent their beliefs? If it is the belief of the people that homosexuality should be banned in the name of preserving our ideals and our culture, why in the world should we go against the word of our own people? We urge you to rethink your hostile claims. The last thing we want is for this to escalate into a war.

Sincerely,

Regenburg cuts all diplomatic relations with Haguenau because of this inhumane decision.
Regenburg will not use any armoured forces to change situation though, because it isn't needed and we are in deficit.

We urge you to think this decision over, to our knowledge homosexuals in UKH are being treated as humanely as possible. Their are no killings of any kind, they are even being allowed to immigrate to other nations if they so please. Again, we urge you to rethink this decision.

Respectfully yours,

To whom this may concern,

It has come to our attention that UKH has recently made it illegal for people to live thier lives the way they where born (being homosexual). While we disagree we will not take the stance other nations have taken. We are willing to grant political asylum to any homosexual people from UKH, for thier word that they wont resort to death squads and the like. As for Riysa's threat of war against any nation voicing thier disdain at the rulings of UKH, it seems counter productive to both our Civil and Military Conclaves to make a threat of war against a threat of war, and we believe,a nd storngly suggest, the threat of war be taken off the table and replaced with amiable discussions to find a way to avoid a conflict that is, quite frankly, unneccicary, and illogical to begin with. Keep in mind we do not condone the war threat you are countering.

In short, we do not condone or condem the threats of war from both sides (it is unfortunate there are sides in this), same with the decission of UKH but offer a solution that will not mean countless lives are thrown away. We hope everything will be resolved without recourse to unneccisary violence. Should the situation worsen we will not hesitate to begin imposing embargos and santions on any party we deem a threat and/or a cause of war regarding this.

I remain,
Zoe Holub
Supreme Ambassador, CNA Diplomatic Corps.

Greetings,

We thank all of the nations that have decided to support our decision. It is appalling to see how certain nations of the world are willing to infringe upon our nation's sovereign rights and democratic rights to spread their own ideologies, disregarding whether our own populace agrees with them or not. We grant open passage to all citizens who wish to emigrate from the UKH to the nations that have opened their doors, safe for the nations that have made explicit hostile threats. We urge all nations that have taken a negative stance towards us to reconsider their decision, indeed as it has been said before, we wish to avoid as much as a possible an escalation of an armed conflict, and to do this, diplomatic contact is a must. We wish to remind you that we are not taking any violent action against homosexuals. Those concerned have 14 days to consider their future, and once the legislation is in action, the strongest of consequences is merely the removal of citizenship (imprisonment, let alone anything more serious, isn't even a possible consequence).

Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern,
We render your homosexuality ban cruel and unusual, given that it is the right in our society that marriage is not gender-specific. We will further refrain from any alliances with your government until you reconsider the appalling ban.
Sincerely,
Blekksprutia

To Whom it May Concern,
We are willing in Blekksprutia to provide asylum to any homosexuals from the UKH or Riysa. If violent action is taken against homosexuals in the UKH or Riysa, we will cut any existing relations and extradite any threatened homosexuals. We threaten to invade if this goes any further.
Yours truly,

TO: The Foreign Ministry of the United Kingdom of Haguenau,
FROM: The Diplomatic Secretariat of the Royal Commonwealth of Gordano-Lysandus,

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is the policy of the Royal Commonwealth to make interventions whenever the civil rights of people around the world are threatened by corrupt governments. Whilst we have little interest in economic policy worldwide, we make a mission statement about ensuring that people are free to pursue a lifestyle free of discrimination on account of numerous factors, of which sexuality is one of them.

Whilst the Defence Secretariat is not currently considering war, it will be debated in Parliament whether further intervention will be required, considering the response of the government of Haguenau.

For the time being, we will seize any vessel flying the ensign of Haguenau passing through the territorial waters of Gordano-Lysandus or its Territories in the Albion Isles and Bukoskia.

We greatly condemn the oppression of LGBT rights, which are on the forefront of the modern civil rights battlefield, and are so often denied by governments motivated by theocratic or other insensible motives.

Respond as soon as possible.

Yours,

Marc Selwyn,
Undersecretary for Worldwide Human Rights.

To: The United Kingdoms of Haguenau

From many of our ministers, and even our leader, Alexander Calixtus, have sent many complaints to my office and wish me to state their opinions to you, although I humbly except your decision to ban homosexuality in your sovereign domain. My colleagues would like you to know that they believe it is a direct breach of human rights to ban a sexual preference. Should not a man or woman be able to choose who they love? If not, we question you, why? Yes, your parliament members were elected, so of course they show the will of the people who elected them into office, but many, not just Aeribis, wish to know the reasoning of this breach on homosexuals' human rights. It would also be liked to know that Aeribis, while not the best of nations, would like to open up its arms to homosexuals fleeing your nation.

Sincerely,
Ana Krieger, Minister of Foreign Policy

This is the 3rd embassy in Britanno to have been attacked by Britannon protestors due to those country's views on homosexuality.

The Prime Minister has announced that all trade routes and other agreements with UKH will be sopped until further notice and that UKH homosexuals are welcome to flee to Britanno. The Prime Minister condemned the decision made by the UKH but refused to comment on the attack of the UKH embassy.

To all leaders who have shown hostile intentions against the UKH, I strongly implore you to reconsider your declarations of war and such. The actions undertaken by the UKH is a matter of national sovereignty. It will be a needless waste of lives and resources if you continue to pursue such courses of action. Nevertheless, let it be known that the nation of Reichsland supports the UKH in this matter, and any attack by a hostile nation shall be met with military intervention. On this you have my word, consider the implications of what you propose.

This is a highly illogical move. While it does not warrant warfare at this stage, your actions are condemned and we are adding a 30% tax increase to all trade to or from the UKH. However, if you wish to punish this with the death penalty, we will have no choice but to eliminate you.
