Again though, if it has to be poetry it would have to be at tops an epic style of poetry (and by that I mean something like, tops, Milton's "Paradise Lost"

(Only early on, though, but there's no reason that we can't change that for the purposes of this thread.)

Oh yeah absolutely.

Yeah, maybe, I think what he's shooting for is the story being told in a poetic fashion that's similar to Shakespeare's telling of a story, unless I'm way the fuck out in left field.

EDIT: I see what you mean now, that style could work too, something interesting if someone tried it would be to use something likes Poe's poetry.

That would be a good twist. If they are shooting for something more classical they could use poetry in the style of the Illyad or the Odyssey by Homer to achieve the storytelling effect in a very greek-classical way.

I've always thought classic poetry as written by people who didn't know how to right, its mostly bleh, but that's just me.

However someone posting in the style of The Raven send a little shiver up my spine, I might have to get involved in this after all.

I was never good at poetry dissection :lol2:

But, I can say that poetry will only work if it is left open. It isn't like prose, like, at all.

I think that this would only work if the style of poetry was up to the individual poster, because otherwise lots of people would be writing in an unfamiliar format.

It might be necessary to rule out some forms of poetry that would ruin the feel (like limericks), though.

Does anyone want to make a Roman era civil war? What if two Rome coexcisted at the same time. Same men, same training and same financial situation. Who would win and how will it turn out?

It would be whoever had the strongest area to defend. It would have to be two different Romanesce nations

So, like any of the plentiful Roman civil wars?

I could go for an Age of Sail/Age of Exploration RP. My nation had barely developed centralized government at that point and there were several scouts/wanderers out and about during that time frame working as ship crewmen. That is, if we're making it character-centric.

ok here is an idea.

the setting is an ultra huge FT galactic civil war, two sides, known as the Galactic Federal Conglomerate (GFC) and the Alliance of Varchesk (AV).
the two factions are in a huge civil war with players on each side owning their own lot of planets and billions in population, the storyline would be a new extra galactic faction, known as the Baa'sevkin (Ba-ahh-sciev-Kin) who are an alien race who have been conquring numourus galaxies and have set their sights on ours.

the two factions have to defend their signatory planet (Yhallisk for the GFC and Varchesk for the AV) while also pushing the invading force outside of their terratory. they war will revolve around many locations ranging from important to where are we again? locations.

the two inital factions will be made up of the players nations native's and their tech. the Baa'sevkin's are going to be humanoid, dark orange skinned people with six limbs (two legs, four arms.) as well as a enhanced sense of sight but smell is not to good. they are particularly fond of things like ciggerets (but filled with alien plants!) which help them as a natural adrenalin maker and a chemical that enhances healing of injuries.

there will be no time travel, god modding, any tech on the level of the Culture or above, no timelord like tech and characters can't specialize in every single field of expertise.

I would be highly interested. The Age of Sail is a period in history I would love to RP.

I'm also pretty interested in this, as the Age of Exploration is pretty much my favourite historical period.
