Not because it is a war RP doesn't mean there can't be character development.

For instance, most war RPs I have participated we tend to use characters to narrate the story in their eyes instead of being completely objective.

I'd probably join then.

Nice. Also, it is Early PMT, around 2040s, so take note of that. If anyone else's interested please TG me.

Remember that this forum has a PG-13 rating. You'll need to try and keep it to that level. It is preferable to hint and allude to sexual activity, rather than writing out full scenes of it to post up, even if you might keep the language 'PG-13'.

It will not be able to happen for a long time from now (because I am already running another RP), but I have an idea for an "Age of Sail/ Exploration" or "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" themed RP set in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Basically, each player would play as a "hero" or "main character" from their country. Each of these characters would have a small island colony in the Caribbean as their base of operations and a fleet of ships plus a small land army that he/she is in personal command of. The players would then try to make their fortune through trading with other players or NPC factions, attacking and plundering other players' or NPC factions' ships and ports, finding buried treasure and lost cities, battling NPC pirates, etc.

Would anyone else be interested in my RP idea? If so, would someone else mind running it for me? I can play in one more RP, but I cannot run more than one at once.

There wouldn't be that many slots for players...

Whoa, I got an idea...

Postby Canuckland » Sat May 25, 2013 1:09 am

I was wondering if anyone would like to do a future tech Rp.
Not like the generic: Planet found: Colonize the shit out of it and fight over it.

No, I was thinking about a Character-Based or Nation-Based (depending on preferences of players) Roleplay about an artifact. It could be something like the Assassin's Creed Apple of Eden or the Halo Rings. Anything that can be taken for your Nation.

And there are many of this artifact, hidden in temple-like structures and entire planets (such as the halo rings). This is where Character/Squad based Roleplaying kicks in. You can Roleplay a squadron to find an artifact, and you bump into another Nations squadron, fight it out and one comes out with the artifact. You can form alliances, enemies, stab your allies in the back and completely annihilate your enemies (not in one swift blow though.)

You can drive your Nation by fleet movements, government stuff and characters (Such as leaders and other important people in your nation). You can have major Space battles, Ground battles and if you have it, Naval Battles in an attempt to find the Artifact. The squads will have their armaments, support such as APCs, Tanks and air support.

Of course, you can conquer planets and fight over them if you would like, do all the standard Future Tech stuff, but slightly tone it down, I wouldn't want the thread derailed from the original idea.

You can have your heroes, political unrest, political heroes and even terror campaigns. (The destruction of cities, colonies and MAYBE the glassing of planets.) All to get the advantage in the war for the artifacts.

But there has to be a catch, right?
Of course. You have to have all the artifacts to unleash the secrets they hold. At that, many people can stand in your way of completing the mission.

And there it is. Not the best but if I get a few people interested I will make a sign-up, an App and other things.
Please call me 'Canuck.'
Also, here's my Factbook WIP Factbook.

I'm thinking about starting my own steampunk RP and, if I get enough dedicated members, a steampunk region. Set in the 1890s era, custom map. The core of this RP will be nuclear hotboxes and pendium. A nuclear hotbox, invented in 1839, is powered by cold fusion and can provide power without radiation. Driving force of all industry, including war machines. Pendium is a new element discovered just 24 years prior, and when coupled with a Lift Reactor in its liquid state and pumped in pipes at the bottom of an airship, generates a lift field, which would allow ferromagnetic materials to float, given there is enough pendium to be pumped in pipes around the vessel. Pendium can be mined and can be found in the same rock where gold can be found. It can be produced in a cold reactor in very small quantities. This would be the basis of the airships.

Second Bakharani Rebellion

Postby Bakhara » Sun Jun 02, 2013 2:46 pm

The Second Bakharani Rebellion was when the Democratic Republic of Bakhara rebelled against France a second time to gain independence. the First Bakharani War was also about independence, but the Guerillas lost.

Bakhara is a semi- modern Islamic nation in West Africa, but this RP takes place shortly after WW2.
It was a colony of France since the 17th century. In this RP, the Guerillas lose the war again, but France knew another revolt would happen eventually, so they grant them independence anyway.
The cities look similar to Timbuktu mixes with modern skyscrapers. In the city, people have automobiles, but in the rural and suburbs, they ride camels. The colony was ran by a governor stationed in France, but eventually Bakhara was allowed to crown it's own king though it was still a French colony. The war takes place around this time.

You can play for one of three factions:

The Colonial Alliance are France and other nations fighting to keep Bakhara to avenge the politicians murdered by Guerrillas. They are really fighting to keep the colony, just for revenge.
French soldiers have WW2 technology and wear WW2 uniforms.

The Guerrillas are African freedom fighters who the French government has branded as a terrorist group. They are somewhat modern. They wear robes that have cut to the knees to make running easier and they wear headscarves. Their army consists of shooters (Guerrillas with rifles), swordsmen (scimitar users), archers (for those who lack firearms), and cameliers (warriors who ride camels). As their name implies, they use guerrilla warfare.
They mostly use primitive weapons since the French took away their military supplies after he first rebellion. The shooters get their rifles from dead French soldiers.

Any interested to play?

I can work with this, or the 'Age of Sail' idea, provided I can just focus on one vagabond sea dog and not bother with the whole colonial aspect. Argonians at that time were fiercely isolationist bastards. Colonies wouldn't quite fit with the motif. There were, however, a lot of wanderers filling positions of mercenaries and deck-hands (as well as pirates) during that time frame.

The Sci-Fi idea works well with the imperialistic mindset of the future-tech version of my nation, and I think I could do good work with such a concept.

The only problem that I can think of for this is that most players don't want to allow their entire teams to be killed in each battle. Sometimes the only way to win a battle for an artifact would be to eliminate the other team, but some people do not want to say that they have lost a battle. Other than that it is really good

This is where the concept of expendable characters and good roleplaying skills come into play. Combat isn't a binary event either. Winners and Losers aren't solely defined as the ones left standing. In all realism, two teams would clash until one achieved fire superiority and either overwhelmed the opposing team or said team withdrew in the face of superior firepower. Even then, you have the possibility of roleplaying wounded characters or prisoners.

It all depends on how in-depth you wish to get with the event itself, whether combat is the main event or just an accessory to a well-told story. It also provides the opportunity to give the narrative weight with the death of an established character.

In short, losing can be just as much fun as winning. We're warring over fictional objects in a text-based format, after all.

To be honest, as an OP, if I see someone who refuses to have their character killed even when the odds are stacked against him/her, I'd play the OP card and kill the character myself. Usually I'd expect people to have the common sense to realize when they're out of cards, giving them a once-in-their-character's-lifetime chance to RP their sometimes very graphic deaths, something I personally enjoy the most.

Nobody commented on mine. :(
Kedri is a nation of 18th century pirates who know water-bending. Throw in some steampunk, as well. Tech level is PT/FanT.
Kedrians abandon piracy and become a modernized country, founded by reformed criminals who forsook piracy and the citizens are descended from pirates, and still retain some of their heritage such as speech, accent, politics.
