On a very distantly related subject, when it comes to songs which exist in real-life, is it safe to assume that they exist in Earth II? I'm sure the matter came up once before but I can't be sure.

Dude, Cotland and the various incarnations of Russia have been in a constant state of Cold War with occational warm periods since 1915, so there still exists justification for such music. Given the amount of wars and tensions that E2 has seen in the last century ICly, there'll be plenty of grounds for musical inspiration for your favorite band(s).

I would say, if we're really nit-picky, in an alternate world with alternate scenarios and alternate people, that a lot of the music, plays, TV shows, etc. would likely not exist, since the context for them to exist is not there. For example- the most obvious one- we don't have an Adolf Hitler as a mad, mid-20th century dictator, so "Springtime for Hitler" would not exist. I would also think, given that most of the world doesn't allow political protest, a lot of "protest songs" wouldn't exist as we know them and the artists would likely be arrested.

So, likely, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young would be in jail just for penning "Ohio"- assuming the Kent State Massacre even happened.

That's being nit-picky of course. Technically we've established that RL celebrities and entertainment counterparts exist unless otherwise noted, and I always think that if you're writing an alternate Earth, it's always useful to have a few "recognizable" things, because the audience is of "this" Earth (presumably). Plus, ultimately, if it ain't germane to the plot, it's not really worth stressing too much over- if push comes to shove, we can always claim "Enter Sandman" is just an alternate title for a similar song or it just has different lyrics.

Having said all that, while we're arguing which bands would actually exist in this world and which ones wouldn't, I will point out that, according to our history, Lay hasn't ruled Ontario for centuries meaning Justin Bieber can very much live. Of course, there's an out because he's got multiple allegations of assault (which Rome wouldn't slap someone on the wrist for), including an incident in Miami...provided Layarteb would even allow him to get that far.

So we can probably assume Bieber isn't much of a factor in this world...unless we've got a "Bieleber" amongst us that hasn't told us about that yet.

Unfortunately for the rest of you, Alberta and British Columbia have been mine for a while and thus Nickelback exists...and I'm a fan (since "The State") so you're stuck with them. I could apologize for that, but I won't.

In all seriousness, though, it might be an interesting exploration to see what an E2 music chart would look like. I keep up a personal chart myself (just to keep my MP3 player up to date, really), so if anyone else does it wouldn't be hard to combine them and make a list.

Maps are updated with Puerto Saulo's claim. That's about it right now. It's not so easy to spot so I'm going to look for a different color but it'll be a bit before that goes into there.

All right maps are updated, the spreadsheet is updated, and I changed the claims list for Puerto Saulo and Alfegos. That's really the only big changes since the last update so call this a mini update.

I also updated and cleaned up the Newswire thread. I found a use for spoilers but that doesn't mean I'm changing the rule on spoiler use.

A zeplin?! We won't be building facilities to accommodate anything as silly as that.

The dates however, who knows. Probably this month soon. The gears in my head are turning, so a post will manifest itself eventually.
