Tis what happens when the Layartebian government tells the defense industry to shove off when they start dramatically increasing procurement cost. MoD motto, "If you want us to buy it you better project the right costs up front because that's what we'll sign up for; if you want to charge more, you pay the difference."

Just to be transparent - My free days are M/Tu/W, and I work the remainder of the week otherwise/go to class full time. Thus, generally, you should see content once a week - but had fallen behind this past week. Update for sure soon these upcoming off days. :)

So right now with Valinor1, Pyschotika, and The German Region putting in claims for NPCs we have an opportunity to remove four NPCs from our rolls. This is quite good. I want to avoid replacing them all right away too. Let's reserve new NPC slots for things that really matter.

One slot will be allocated to Amigard who has expressed interest in making Israel an NPC given the failure of Artzua to make any posts. That leaves three open slots. I am thinking that perhaps we should put limits on how many NPCs a single player can make. However, it'll just be going forward. I'm working out limits of perhaps one per player (and if you have NPCs already you are stuck with what you made unless you remove them willingly and readd). It's still being tossed around in my head. Also potential for a cap of NPCs at 16 total and a wait list system for new NPCs.

Clearly from this list below I am the biggest offender and I shouldn't be making any more NPCs at all. Earth II is defined as a category where we have made NPCs from dropped players or from prior situations such as Brazil (original NPC discussion) and Ethiopia (the first "NPC" on E2). Also we should consider cycling out some of the inactive ones such as Persia and South India. Amapá would be close to being inactive as I haven't used it or referenced it as much as I had originally intended. Thoughts for all right now before anything is decided. Do note however that just because a specific player (such as myself) has created an NPC, they are not the exclusive domain of said player. Red below signals an NPC that is under active claim while blue is stalled due to other difficulties.

Here's the NPC Count: 19

  • Summary: Initially a semi-autonomous State within the Theocracy of Amigard, Israel became a fully independent nation on August 1, 2016. Israel maintains a Parliamentary Democracy form of government. Judiasm is the both the majority and the official state religion. Israel has a small but technologically advanced and well trained military and continues the Amigard tradition of mandatory military service for its citizens which creates a situation in which the nation is capable of calling upon a very large citizen militia when needed. The government is stable and enjoys the overwhelming loyalty of the people. The State of Israel currently maintains a strict isolationist foreign as well as cultural policy though it does maintain diplomatic and economic ties with the Theocracy of Amigard and is deemed a protectorate of the Theocracy.

"Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen."

That looks like a good start Amigard. In the final product though please include titles of the heads of state/gov.

So this is going to be a lot of writing here. This is 16 of 95 pages in the first document of Layartebian history, which goes from 10000 BC to 1990. The second document is a further 97 pages and that goes from 1990 to 2006. The third document is 44 pages and covers 2006 - 2012. I'm working on document #4 right now and that's 2012 - Present.

Side Note: Layarteb has 24 public holidays (12 static & 12 floating).

Additions (use as many of these as necessary, use US date system (month day, year), do not use st, nd, rd, or th)
  • 2000 BC: [Layarteb] Cave paintings in the Finger Lakes region depict nomadic herders settling down in the area because of its lush vegetation, nutrient-rich soil, access to fresh water, and plethora of wild animals. This is the first recorded evidence of human habitation in modern-day New York, though anthropologists estimate nomadic activity dated back to 10000 BC.
  • 500 BC: [Layarteb] The first Indo-European settlers - in the form of pre-Celtic explorers - arrive in modern-day Newfoundland. There is no indication of immediate strife and anthropologists believe these explorers may have been treated like gods by the native tribes.
  • 500 - 200 BC: [Layarteb] The first Indo-European explorers to Newfound return to modern-day Ireland and tell tales of the strange native people. Over the next 250 years, more settlers and explorers travel across the North Atlantic from Ireland to Newfound and Labrador where they coexist with the native tribes. Carrying Iron Age weaponry, these settlers and explorers are revered by the natives.
  • 225 BC: [Layarteb] The settlement of Tnemrot is believed to have been founded but no records or archeological evidence exists.
  • 50 BC: [Layarteb] The first records from Ancient Tnemrot show a population of over 5,000 people. However, this settlement is wiped out by 25 BC without explanation. By now, pre-Celtic explorers and settlers extend from Newfound down to Nova Scotia.
  • 50 BC - 25: [Layarteb] Immigration from Europe to the land known as "Tnemrot" increases and 10,000 settlers are present by 25 AD. It is believed that large groups of settlers come across the North Atlantic Ocean in summer, favoring large groups for the better protection afforded them.
  • 30 - 80: [Layarteb] Pre-Celtic explorers and settlers have fully adopted the identity of "Tnemration" and they branch out to form several settlements in modern-day Acadia National Park; however, these settlements draw ire from the native tribes and the Tnemration settlers are forced to return to Nova Scotia by 80 AD.
  • 50 - 150: [Layarteb] Continued immigration and high birth rates allow the population of Tnemrot to reach 25,000 people by the year 150.
  • 180 - 370: [Layarteb] Members of the Tnemration warrior caste wage warfare against the native tribes and because of their superior weapons, they conquer huge swaths of land in modern-day Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York, stretching from coastal Maine to Lake Ontario. They subsequently dub this land the Dominion of Tnemrot with the modern-day city of Yarmouth serving as the capital and largest city.
  • 375 - 475: [Layarteb] Tnemration settlers, explorers, and warriors establish a large nation that stretches from main all the way to modern-day Long Island in New York.
  • 489: [Layarteb] The modern-day city of Albany is founded in New York with the aim of replacing Yarmouth as the capital of Tnemrot. However, by this time, the Tnemration people are split into two groups, "continental Tnemrations" and "Tnemrations." Continental Tnemrations are looked down upon by Tnemrations on Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, which ultimately leads to growing tension.
  • 500: [Layarteb] Historical records show regular immigration from Europe to North America stop completely around this time without explanation. Historians believe a powerful storm, perhaps a hurricane or a tropical storm, struck a journey, wiping out many boats. They believe that those boats not destroyed returned to Ireland and sowed fear into future settlers.
  • 512 - 513: [Layarteb] Continental Tnemrations revolt against Yarmouth in the modern-day city of Syracuse, which is at this time a burgeoning settlement. The people of Syracuse object to certain laws and edicts passed down from Yarmouth. The revolt lasts only a year and it is brutally suppressed by Tnemration warriors from Yarmouth who briefly sack the city.
  • 513: [Layarteb] Tnemration (and Layartebian) mythology mark this as the year Comhghall is born. Comhghall will become a storied warrior in Tnemration (and Layartebian) history. According to the epic known as The Eye of Luna, Comhghall's birth is arranged by several of the lesser gods and goddesses as a chance to involve humanity in their war against Luna, the moon goddess and chief Tnemration deity. The growing strife within the Tnemration people, split between those on Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and those on the continent, is seen as a way by these lesser gods and goddesses to distract Luna by involving her in a civil war, during which time they can combine forces and defeat her. The text goes on to detail Comhghall's birth, his childhood, his betrayal by his own tribe, his betrayal by Luna, and his ultimate revenge upon not only Luna and the gods and goddesses who arranged his birth but also upon humanity as a whole.
  • 570 - 571: [Layarteb] Continental Tnemrations revolt against Yarmouth again by declaring Albany the capital of the Dominion of Tnemrot. By then, Albany had a larger population than Yarmouth. This was intolerable to Yarmouth and Tnemration warriors crush the revolt after a few months and burn the city to the ground, killing thousands. From this moment onward, Tnemration warriors loyal to Yarmouth are stationed in continental areas. A series of edicts and decrees are passed, which reduce Continental Tnemrations to a peasant status.
  • 600 - 700: [Layarteb] Yarmouth and Nova Scotia stagnate while settlements on the continent flourish.
  • 665 - 679: [Layarteb] In 665, Tnemration leaders in Yarmouth demand an increase in tribute from continental settlements. The following year, Continental Tnemrations launch a new revolt, which lasts for 13 years, and leads to 50,000 - 95,000 deaths. Syracuse and Albany are sacked and burned to the ground while Yarmouth is attacked and partially burned. Famine and plague spread as a result of the campaign. Tnemration (and Layartebian) mythology (The Eye of Luna) details this war as the return of Comhghall to the human world and beginning of his war against the goddess Luna. It is used as an allegory for the tale of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
  • 700 - 1000: [Layarteb] An uneasy peace exists between Continental Tnemrations and those in Tnemrot-proper. Native tribes and Continental Tnemrations make peace and begin to form alliances. Together, these people - both the natives and the Continental Tnemrations - begin to refer to themselves as "Layartebians," giving birth to the identity.
  • 966: [Cotland, Layarteb] A Cottish explorer named Erik the Red discovers Newfoundland and names it as such.
  • 1000 - 1100: [Layarteb] The Dominion of Tnemrot reaches its apex and includes modern-day Labrador, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and parts of Quebec south of the Saint Lawrence River. Everything north of this river is controlled by native tribes. By 1100, the dominating native tribes are the Iroquois and the Algonquian the former dominating the interior and the latter dominating the coastal parts. Intermixing by native people and Continental Tnemrations since 700 allows the identity of Layartebian to become common and accepted by 1100, much to the chagrin of Yarmouth.
  • 1001: [Cotland, Layarteb] Lief Erikson (Leiv Eiriksson in Cottish) founds the first Cottish settlement on Newfoundland and names it Vinland. At first, the Tnemrations do not regard the Cottish as hostile though by 1050, attitudes begin to change.
  • 1102: [Cotland, Layarteb] Warfare and crop famine from the past 52 years plague Vinland, forcing the Cottish to abandon their colony. The settlers who do so largely believe that the island is completely abandoned, even by the Tnemrations. However, despite heavy losses, the Tnemration settlements remain, surviving only through assistance from Nova Scotia.
  • 1100 - 1150: [Layarteb] Plagues and famines ravage the Dominion of Tnemrot and tensions between Tnemrations and Layartebians grow by the season. Tnemrations view Layartebians are ethnically inferior because of their intermingling with the native tribes.
  • 1120: [Layarteb] History records a powerful sea storm, likely a hurricane, ravaging southern Long Island, modern-day New England, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. Based on historical evidence, the 1985 Hurricane Gloria appears to have taken the same path and strength as this storm.
  • 1120 - 1130: [Layarteb] Multiple sea storms are recorded as ravaging the lands of Tnemrot, all likely hurricanes, tropical storms, and nor'easters. The Tnemration and the Layartebian people believe these to be punishments from Luna and the other gods and goddesses for their internal strife and move towards reconciliation.
  • 1130 - 1135: [Layarteb] Attempts are made to reconcile but they collapse amidst the attitude of Tnemrations towards Layartebians as inferior human begins due to their inbreeding with the native tribes.
  • 1140 - 1145: [Layarteb] The Decree of Albany is written. In it, the "Four Tribes of Layarteb" are named and identified as the Ontarians, the Albans, the Mohegans, and the Algonquians. The Ontarians inhabit areas mostly in New York where the Iroquois lived. The Albans are defined as those inhabiting non-Iroquois areas of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Long Island. The Mohegans are defined as those in modern-day Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The Algonquians are defined as inhabiting Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Quebec south of the Saint Lawrence River. It takes 5 years for this document to reach Yarmouth.
  • 1145 - 1150: [Layarteb] Sensing another revolution brewing, the Tnemration government in Yarmouth begins to raise the largest army yet while constructing new ships for warfare. Soldiers on the continent enter a new era of brutality and violence against Layartebians. They are recorded as raping women at will and executing men for walking too closely to them. These actions appear to have directly inspired the upcoming Layarteb declaration of independence.
  • 1150 - 1152: [Layarteb] Layartebians begin to strike back against the Tnemration soldiers. They engage in passive forms of resistance by escorting women in public, protecting them from Tnemration soldiers. Gangs form to fight against Tnemration soldiers who disregard these escorts. Many Tnemration soldiers are left badly beaten but few are killed. In response, Yarmouth orders its soldiers to simply kill any man or gang who threatens a soldier.
  • 1152 - 1154: [Layarteb] Tensions rise and 90 soldiers are killed by gangs of Layartebians. Over 500 Layartebians are killed and Yarmouth takes notice.
  • 1154: [Layarteb] Tnemration ships begin to stop, board, and seize Layartebian ships departing the waters around the Long Island coastline. These trade ships, normally headed south towards the fertile lands of the Caribbean often carried goods and people, who would barter for all manner of Caribbean goods. With the superior Tnemration naval forces stopping these ships, economic hardship begins to befall the coastal Layartebian settlements.
  • Spring 1155 - Fall 1157: [Layarteb] Layartebian leaders in Albany begin deliberations for independence. However individual tribe sovereignty is a major roadblock initially.
  • Summer 1157: [Layarteb] Framers of the Layartebian declaration for independence put aside the sovereignty question and begin to draft the document. This comes as news reaches Albany that Tnemration soldiers have destroyed a settlement on modern-day Cape Cod for refusing naval tribute. Word reaches Albany that all of the women were raped and then killed and all of the men were decapitated. Individuals sent to investigate the settlement report horrible tales of heads on spears driven into the ground lining the road to the settlement.
  • October 31, 1157: [Layarteb] Seizing upon the Samhain festivities, the Layartebian people in Albany declare their independence. The signed decree is delivered to Yarmouth one month later by nine messengers - two from each tribe and one additional representative from Albany. Eight of the night representatives are killed and the ninth is sent home with news that the declaration would not be accepted.
  • December 1157 - December 1215: [Layarteb] The Layartebian War of Independence ravishes both Continental Tnemrot and traditional, Tnemration areas. Approximately 150,000 Tnemrations and 200,000 Layartebians (most of them civilians) are killed. Famine and plague remain the top causes of death during the war among both sides.
  • June 1158: [Layarteb] Tnemration forces land approximately 50,000 men at modern-day Plymouth. Layartebian soldiers are ready for the landing party thanks to watchmen who spot the naval armada and by the large flock of seagulls following the ships. Upon landing, the Tnemration warriors, believing themselves to be a superior force, begin their campaign by sacking the coastal settlement there. However, this was an elaborate trap and the Layartebian people folded quickly away from the settlement, granting the Tnemrations their piece of land. In celebration, the Tnemration warriors held a feast that night and long after they had fallen asleep from food and drink, Layartebian guerillas managed to set fire to all but seven of the Tnemration ships. The seven that avoided fire were captured and became the first warships in the Layartebian navy, trapping the war party.
  • July 1158 - 1159: [Layarteb] Tnemration forces move inland towards Providence to locate the Layartebians. However, guerilla attacks kill over 5,000 men by the time they reach Providence. Tnemrations siege the city but are forced to retreat in 1159 with less than half of their original number thanks to Layartebian guerilla attacks. In addition, famine and plague had begun to riddle the camps and the Layartebians were accused of spreading disease amongst the Tnemration soldiers. There is no direct evidence that the Layartebians engaged in any early form of biological warfare.
  • 1160 - 1170: [Layarteb] Tnemration leaders imprison the commanding officers of this initial war party and reconstitute another army of 50,000 men.
  • 1170 - 1174: [Layarteb] The second Tnemration war party lands on eastern Long Island and march unopposed westward, destroying everything in their path and impressing young men into their army. Guerilla attacks continue to whittle down their numbers but the net loss remains at zero due to forced impressment. The war party retreats with a successful mission, bringing back many spoils to Yarmouth.
  • 1175: [Layarteb] Refusing Tnemration demands that Layarteb cease its rebellion, an armada of 90 Layartebian warships attacks several coastal settlements along Nova Scotia. The death toll is not high but the impact on Yarmouth is significant.
  • 1180 - 1188: [Layarteb] A third Tnemration army lands on the continent, again with 50,000 men but this time at Acadia. They siege the modern-day settlement of Bangor for eight years, killing tens of thousands of people, ultimately capturing the city to use as a staging point for future invasions.
  • 1190 - 1200: [Layarteb] Tnemration naval ships press up the Hudson River, attacking settlements along the way in a series of thrusts over ten years.
  • 1200 - 1203: [Layarteb] Tnemrot lays siege of Albany and destroys the city in its entirety. Over 20,000 Tnemrations are killed due to flanking attacks and the sinking of an entire flotilla. Many more Layartebians die.
  • 1205: [Layarteb] Tnemration leaders in Yarmouth decide to end the rebellion once and for all. Leaving behind a small force of just 5,000 men, they send virtually their entire army - 80,000 men - to the continent where they land at Bangor and march towards Albany, a 300 mi (480 km) journey.
  • 1208 - 1213: [Layarteb] The last of Tnemrot's navy works its way up the Hudson River quickly and commences the Second Siege of Albany though the Tnemrot force is only 8,000 men. The violence is unparalleled though and famine and plague kill countless men, women, and children in Albany. Harsh winters plague both sides and the loss of crops around the region weigh heavily upon the Layartebians. Until 1210, the Tnemrations fight unopposed until a large counterattack outside of Albany by Layartebian forces wipes out a quarter of Tnemrot's troops and sinks most of its ships in the Hudson. Calls for reinforcements are made but there are few to send. A 2,000-man force arrives in 1212 but they are wiped out before they could arrive, either by a sea storm or a navigational error. No major storms are recorded on the continent at this time. By 1213, the Second Siege of Albany is over and the Tnemration force is defeated to the last man.
  • May 1214 - September 1215: [Layarteb] Over 40,000 Layartebian soldiers attack Bangor and commence the Second Siege of Bangor. In fourteen months they capture the city and destroy Tnemrot's massive force of troops.
  • December 1, 1215: [Layarteb] Completely devoid of reserve soldiers, Yarmouth is forced to capitulate and leaders reluctantly sign the Treaty of Layarteb, giving Layarteb independence. The Treaty of Layarteb is very harsh for Tnemrot as it cuts out all of their influence and bars their trade ships from Layartebian ports. Albany is not declared the capital but a new territory known as Manhattan Island is built up to become the capital and named Layarteb City. Layarteb is established as a federation of four, sovereign governments based on the four tribes. Layarteb City was to be a non-affiliated city owing allegiance to no one tribe. Each of the four tribes would have recognition and a government was set up around a High Council, which would have ten representatives from each tribe. It would be overseen by an "Overlord." The Overlord of Layarteb was to be considered the head of the country; and because of the four tribes, this position would rotate through the tribes every four years. The Albans received the first Overlord, the Ontarians the second, the Mohegans the third, and the Algonquians the fourth. This order would rotate accordingly.
  • 1216 - 1315: [Layarteb] The Federation of Layarteb exists in a period of peace known as The Hundred Year's Peace.
  • 1216 - 1217: [Layarteb] Layartebian leaders from all four tribes work to codify the laws of the new country allowing for self-rule by each tribe in their own sovereign land. Laws that spanned the four tribes were largely those relating to murder, taxes, and other crime. Military service becomes mandatory for all males on their eighteenth birthday; and in less than five years, the Layartebian military becomes a large and formidable force though it is largely a land-based force with only basic training. A strong navy is subsequently formally established, largely of Mohegan and Algonquian citizens. The sole purpose is to protect Layartebian waters from Tnemration forces. Despite the fact that Tnemrot has no navy left at this time, there was nothing stopping them from reconstituting their forces. Taxes were still collected from settlements - at reduced rates - and they flowed to Layarteb City instead of Yarmouth.
  • 1222: [Layarteb] The Federation of Layarteb is renamed the Confederacy of Layarteb with the adoption of a constitution. Though many want an invasion of Tnemrot because it remains weakened and unable to defend itself, no invasion is undertaken.
  • 1305: [Cotland, Layarteb] Cottish explorers setting out to reconstitute Vinland are blown very far south in a storm, landing on Cape Cod to find a bustling civilization, much to their surprise. While originally the Cottish were believed to be a Tnemration raiding party, this was quickly dispelled by a knowledgeable elder who knew the distinction in tongues between Layartebian, Tnemration, and the Native tribespeople. He declared them to be explorers from the far away continents of the east and thus saved them from likely execution.
  • 1312: [Layarteb] Brom, a powerful Alban lord, assumes position as Overlord at the age of 42. He is considered a very strong ruler and his ascent is not favored by all of the tribes, especially the Ontarians and the Algonquian confederacies who are brewing a secessionist movement in the Champlain region.
  • March 15, 1315: [Layarteb] During a High Council meeting, Overlord Brom is assassinated by three Champlain separatists with the help of two Ontarian delegates. An investigation reveals the true culprits and the Alban Confederacy and the Ontarian Confederacy both enter an uneasy state of tension almost immediately thereafter.
  • Summer 1315 - 1317: [Layarteb] With the help of the Algonquians, who have renounced the Champlain movement, the Alban delegation to the High Council effectively bars the Ontarians from assuming the Overlord position for the following term. Arthfael, Brom's son, is elected instead to serve for a single, four-year term as Overlord. He immediately enacts a number of pro-Alban reforms to the High Council. With the assistance of the Algonquians he spends most of 1316 destroying pro-separatists settlements along Lake Champlain, killing over 5,000 settlers.
  • Spring 1318: [Layarteb] The Ontarian Confederacy objects to Arthfael's campaign in the Champlain region and as a result, Arthfael leads the High Council in a vote to expel them from the High Council. The Algonquians go along with the vote but reluctantly so.
  • 1319: [Layarteb] Border skirmishes between Alban and Ontarian forces occur along the Hudson River and along the outskirts of Ontarian territory. Seeing an opportunity to capture the entirety of the Hudson, the Alban Confederacy under Arthfael's leadership, moves to annex and secure the Hudson River right up to Lake Champlain, which is now devoid of hostile settlements. Through promises not to seize Algonquian territory, the Albans obtain Algonquian support for the move.
  • 1320: [Layarteb] Arthfael steps down on time and returns to Albany where he rises to take over the leadership of the Alban Confederacy, leading a revenge campaign against the Ontarians. Though little territory is exchanged, the border skirmishes between the Ontarians and the Albans continue for the next hundred years and often times involved the Algonquians on both sides of the fight, depending on who was in power.
  • Summer 1342: [Cotland, Layarteb] A mysterious ship is found adrift in the Long Island Sound and an investigating team finds the entire crew dead. The ship is brought to the harbor at Groton in Connecticut and it is isolate. After three days, the ship is deemed an omen and it is burned and sunk in the Long Island Sound. Historians believe this ship was a Cottish trade ship and with it came the Bubonic plague.
  • Summer 1342 - 1345: [Cotland, Layarteb] The Bubonic plague sweeps through and utterly ravishes the Confederacy of Layarteb, wiping out one-third of the population. Layartebian elders and high priests declare the plague as punishment from Luna for their internal strife though no attempts at reconciliation are made. Hardest hit were the coastal settlements of the Mohegan Confederacy. The Algonquians suffered badly and the Albans fell in between the two. Nothing is known about the effect of the Bubonic plague on the Ontarian Confederacy but Syracuse and Buffalo both suffered.
  • 1350: [Cotland, Layarteb] Cottish trade ships begin to frequently land in Layartebian port cities with goods from afar. The Layartebian High Council welcomes the traders but they are distrustful of the Cottish and restrict where they can go and stay. Their main worry is a Cottish alternative identity forming and taking over both Layartebian culture and history. Cottish traders do provide open channels of communication between Tnemrot and Layarteb and it was through these traders that Layartebians learned how hard Tnemrations continued to suffer as a result of the independence war. Tnemrot proved to be no threat but maritime patrols were continued just in case this was all part of a Cottish-Tnemration ruse.
  • January 4, 1402: [Cotland, Layarteb] The Confederacy of Layarteb signs its first formal trade agreement with the Cottish. It is the first intercontinental trade agreement in world history and Cottish trade ships come frequently to Layartebian ports where they also gain access to Layartebian trade routes to the Caribbean. The Alban Confederacy benefits most from this agreement due to their ownership of the Overlord position and due to the fact that Layarteb City is the main port for Cottish trade ships. Tensions begin to rise amongst the four tribes.
  • Summer 1436: [Layarteb] The Alban Confederacy announces unilateral plans to build a massive fortress named after Comhghall in Layarteb City for the purpose of being the new seat of the High Council and the Overlord. The announcement comes at a time when the High Council was reconsidering Ontarian admittance back to the High Council and a move of the capital to Albany due to its more central location. Negotiations stall over 14 years, largely due to Alban opposition and Algonquian wavering back and forth.
  • May 13, 1450: [Layarteb] The Fortress of Comhghall is completed on Governors Island in Upper New York Bay. Though it is a symbol of Layartebian history in the modern era, it was seen as a symbol of defiance and consternation in 1450. When it is built, it is the largest building in the entire country, which angers many of the high priests who believe no building should be larger than the temples to Luna.
  • January 9, 1456: [Layarteb] The Ontarians are readmitted to the High Council when the Algonquians vote in favor, leading to infuriation from the Alban leadership who expected the Algonquians to vote against. The Alban delegation subsequently stormed out of the meeting, vowing revenge for the betrayal.
  • April 5, 1456: [Layarteb] Invited back to the High Council, the Ontarian delegation entered Layarteb City only to be attacked by a mob. The entire delegation was slaughtered. The Alban citizens subsequently began to target and attack Algonquian traders throughout the Alban Confederacy, especially in and around Layarteb City.
  • September 1456 - March 1458: [Layarteb] Several border skirmishes between the Albans and the Algonquians occur.
  • March 1458 - 1460: [Layarteb] An Alban force consisting of 80,000 men attacks the Champlain region, aiming to take control over the entire region. The move forces the Ontarians and the Algonquians to scuttle plans for a siege of Albany to fight the Albans along the region. By 1460, the Albans control the southern half of the region.
  • 1460 - 1750: [Layarteb] The First Layarteb Civil War rages on and off over the course of some 290 years. When it ends, the Confederacy of Layarteb is no more. Hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children die and the political landscape of Layarteb is forever changed by an Alban victory and the subsequent adoption of representative democracy.
  • July 8 - September 10, 1460: [Layarteb] A combined Algonquian-Mohegan naval force lands on Staten Island with an army of 45,000 men. Thanks to Alban lookouts however, they are spotted days before their arrival but err in believing that the force is meant to land on Long Island causing a shift in Alban forces to Long Island. The siege ends with the Algonquian-Mohegan force losing a third of their force. An Alban naval force pursues them in their retreat and sinks another dozen ships before they can return to port, furthering their losses.
  • 1466 - April 1475: [Layarteb] A sizeable Alban war party departs Alban territory and heads east through Connecticut and Rhode Island, destroying settlements and capturing territory.
  • 1470 - 1480: [Layarteb] Crude demographics conducted by the various confederacies over a ten-year period show that the majority of citizens within the Confederacy of Layarteb are no longer native in origin but rather trace their lineage back to the pre-Celtic people who had come to the land. Yet despite this, native roots still hold and play significant importance in each confederacy.
  • April 1475 - 1480: [Layarteb] Alban forces lay siege to Providence in the Second Siege of Providence. Though they are unable to capture the city, Alban warriors establish a permanent presence in Connecticut and Rhode Island, which allows them to harass the Mohegan Confederacy within their historical borders.
  • 1480 - 1488: [Layarteb] Alban soldiers push into Algonquian territory, raiding and burning settlements. By 1488, they lay siege to Montpelier in Vermont.
  • 1488 - 1491: [Layarteb] Alban warriors siege Montpelier and capture the city after three years, establishing themselves deep within Algonquian territory.
  • 1492 - 1503: [Layarteb, RomeW] The Roman explorer, Christopher Columbus, sails to and "discovers" the New World in the Caribbean Sea. This puts Roman traders and explorers in contact with the Layartebian people for the first time. He completes four voyages over the course of eleven years.
  • 1493 - 1750: [Layarteb, RomeW] The first Catholic missionaries from Rome land on Layartebian soil and begin to preach Christianity. They are unwelcomed by virtually everyone and over the course of the next 250 years, they establish themselves in each of the four confederacies. Layartebians, pagan by nature, deeply opposed Christianity and universally slaughtered the missionaries, killing over 20,000 between 1493 and 1750. With the influx of missionaries from Rome comes a number of Roman traders and philosophers who intermingle with Cottish traders and philosophers. Mercenaries on both sides come as well to fight in the First Layartebian Civil War, as it is known. However, the end result of this influx of foreigners is the Layartebian Renaissance, which begins in the mid 1550s.
  • 1535 - 1540: [Layarteb] Alban warriors siege the city of Plattsburgh over the course of five years, capturing it but at a steep price. Harsh winters and famine caused significant numbers of deaths. Following the Siege of Plattsburgh, Alban soldiers controlled virtually the entire Lake Champlain region except for a small swath of land to the north which would go unconquered until the end of the war.
  • Summer 1570 - 1576: [Layarteb] Alban warriors siege the city of Portland in Maine, capturing it in 1576. This effectively splits Algonquian territory in half and gives the Alban Confederacy access to a significant naval force, which was seized at Portland.
  • 1580 - 1585: [Layarteb] The Alban Confederacy uses its new naval forces to fight a number of naval skirmishes while the land army reconstitutes itself. By 1585, it numbers some 350,000 men.
  • 1585 - 1596: [Layarteb] A force of 150,000 Alban soldiers invades Mohegan territory and commences the Third Siege of Providence in 1592. In 1596, they are victorious and the Mohegan Confederacy ceases to exist with all of its territories annexed into the Alban Confederacy. For the next 45 years however, small battles are fought between Mohegan settlements and Alban forces.
  • June 1587: [Layarteb] Alban naval ships fight a major naval battle off of Cape Cod. They are victorious and wipe out the Algonquian leadership, which is returning from meeting with the Mohegan leadership.
  • 1589 - 1591: [Cotland, Layarteb] Overzealous Alban warships attack a Cottish merchant fleet and sink one ship by mistake. This leads King Sigurd III of Cotland to declare war on the Confederacy of Layarteb. For three years, Layartebian merchant ships in the North Atlantic are harassed, attacked, and seized by the Cottish navy. Known as the Cottish-Layartebian Trade War, it concludes in 1591 with the Treaty of Layarteb City. The treaty sees the Alban leadership issue a formal apology and provides compensation for the original losses. The trade war severely hurts the Alban reputation throughout the world. However, the Dominion of Tnemrot suffers immensely. Roman and Cottish trade ships were their only lifeline to the world and during the war, Tnemrot was largely cut off and forced to fend for itself. The country remained in its own dark age from the mid-1200s.
  • 1590 - 1642: [Layarteb] A force of 150,000 Alban soldiers invades through Pennsylvania and ultimately reaches Lake Erie by 1642. Throughout these 52 years, they establish a number of settlements in the largely unpopulated areas of modern-day Pennsylvania, sparring occasionally with the last of the Iroquois natives.
  • Early 1605: [Layarteb] Layartebian explorers under the command of Admiral James Smith seek out to locate a mysterious island in the Atlantic Ocean believed to harness magical properties. The expedition is mounted in response to tales from Cottish explorers, who have heard of said island from Spanish sailors of an island named Bermuda and first discovered in 1503 by Juan de Bermúdez. The expedition is presumed to have ended in disaster when Admiral Smith never returns.
  • July 1609: [Layarteb] Under the command of Admiral George Barrow, a multi-ship expedition is launched to try to discover Bermuda. During the course of the expedition, a hurricane strikes, sinking all but one vessel, the Sea Venture, which runs aground after three days of fighting the storm.
  • July 25, 1609: [Layarteb] Admiral Barrow and the Sea Venture run aground on the island of Bermuda. A settlement is established by crewmen with hopes of building new ships and sailing back to Layarteb. It takes nine months, during which time the crewmen discover that the island is inhabited by a small but friendly tribe of natives who have benefited from feral pigs released by prior expeditions. During this time they learn that Bermuda is frequently struck by powerful storms and that reefs make sea transit to the island treacherous. The island is named the Isle of Devils by this expedition.
  • Spring 1610: [Layarteb] Admiral Barrow and most of his expedition return to Layarteb City aboard two vessels they had built from Bermudan cedar and spare parts from the Sea Venture. They tell of the island and their discoveries. Admiral Barrow is immediately given the highest honors by the Alban government in Layarteb City.
  • Fall 1612: [Layarteb] Braving the elements again, a Layartebian expedition to Bermuda is mounted with the aim of establishing a permanent settlement. It arrives without trouble. The settlement is called St. George's after Admiral George Barrow and it becomes the first capital of Bermuda.
  • 1615 - 1750: [Layarteb] Bermuda plays little role in the Layartebian Civil War. Cross-Atlantic travelers often stop there making the island a hub of multicultural trade. The population of Bermuda grows too quickly for the island's capacities and overpopulation becomes an issue.
  • 1642 - 1644: [Layarteb] Alban warriors siege Erie and capture the city after two years of bloody fighting.
  • June 1645 - Spring 1646: [Layarteb] Alban warriors lay siege to Buffalo but they are forced to retreat in January 1646 due to the weather. A historian traveling with the invasion force recorded a blizzard with hurricane-force winds and blinding snow that lasted for two days. According to his descriptions, this blizzard buried the Alban camp in approximately 10 - 12 ft (3 - 3.65 m) of snow. The Alban warriors braved the rest of the winter, retreating back to Erie in spring.
  • 1652 - 1654: [Layarteb] The Third Siege of Bangor is undertaken by Alban warriors but it ends in a stalemate. The Algonquian Confederacy is significantly weakened as a result and the Alban soldiers do not retreat.
  • Summer 1658: [Layarteb] Warships from the Alban navy deal heavy losses to the Algonquian navy in a major naval battle, clearing the way for Alban reinforcements at Bangor.
  • 1659 - 1664: [Layarteb] The Fourth Siege of Bangor occurs and lasts five years. When Bangor falls in 1664, so does the Algonquian Confederacy; though it will not be until 1688 that the last territories and settlements along the Saint Lawrence River are captured.
  • 1688 - 1702: [Layarteb] Alban soldiers set up defensive outposts along the Saint Lawrence River, designed to prevent merchant ships from sailing to or from Ontarian ports. By 1702, this begins to have an effect.
  • 1692: [Cotland, Layarteb, RomeW] Thanks to Cottish and Roman traders, the Industrial Revolution comes to Layarteb. For the Alban Confederacy, the Industrial Revolution provides a massive outpouring of technology to the military.
  • April 1705 - October 1706: [Layarteb] Alban soldiers fight the Second Siege of Buffalo but this time they are equipped to handle the winter. By October 1706, Buffalo falls.
  • 1710 - 1730: [Layarteb] The Alban military reconstitutes its forces once again and makes preparations for a final push against Syracuse, the Ontarian capital. Border skirmishes and small incursions sees territorial gains for the Alban Confederacy but the Ontarian leadership remains in power.
  • 1718 - 1723: [Dalmasce, Layarteb] Dalmascan traders, having heard of stories of Layarteb from Cottish and Roman traders make first contact with the Alban Confederacy on Bermuda in 1718 and then at Layarteb City in 1723. By 1723, the Kingdom of Dalmasca becomes Layarteb's third major trading partner and the last of its three historical friendships, as they are known today.
  • 1732: [Layarteb] Sander Young, a 23-year old landowner, becomes the youngest man in Layartebian history - to this point - to assume control over a major government entity when he takes over the Ontarian Confederacy in January 1732. Incensed by what is now over 270 years of civil war between the Four Tribes of Layarteb, he aims to end the war by conquering Albany and Layarteb City. He immediately dispatches a major force to conquer Albany. They pass through Utica, New York but are met 30 mi (48 km) from Albany where they are defeated by Alban soldiers.
  • Spring - Summer 1733: [Layarteb] Ontarian forces attack Buffalo but they only get as far as 5 mi (8 km) from the city before they are wiped out by Alban forces.
  • January 17, 1734: [Layarteb] The Alban leadership, heavily influences by the ideas of the Age of Enlightenment, declares the Confederacy of Layarteb dissolved, to be replaced by the Republic of Layarteb. Aimed to be weak federally, the first constitution gives significant power to local counties and divisions. Leaders serve only two-year terms and a nationally elected bicameral legislation is formed in Layarteb City. This is received with widespread support by the aristocracy throughout the former confederacies as these aristocrats believe they can usurp the government and obtain even more wealth and power for themselves. The peasant population has no right to vote as only landowners can. Despite this, the peasant populace is hopeful for improvements to their living conditions.
  • Fall 1736: [Layarteb] Alban politicians offer Sander Young and the Ontarian Confederacy an olive branch and a peace summit is held in Utica. However the meeting turns into a trap; and Sander Young has the Alban delegates captured and paraded in public as prisoners of war. As a condition for their release, he demands the return of Buffalo. When the Alban leadership refuses, the mutilated corpses of the delegates are sent to Layarteb City leading to an all-out declaration of war on the Ontarian Confederacy.
  • February 1740: [Layarteb] An Ontarian armada transits the largely frozen Saint Lawrence River, destroying multiple Alban outposts in the process. The Alban lookouts, having falsely believed the river to be impassable were caught neglecting their duties by either being AWOL or not manning their posts. They suffer greatly and the result allows the Ontarian Confederacy to once again receive supplies via sea, which they take advantage of right away.
  • Summer 1740: [Layarteb] The Alban navy blockades the Saint Lawrence River, effectively cutting off supplies to the Ontarian Confederacy. The blockade is a success and a number of Ontarian warships caught out at sea are destroyed when they try to return to the Great Lakes.
  • March 1742 - May 1744: [Layarteb] An Alban invasion force sets out from Albany and arrives at Utica in May 1742 where they attack the city. Ontarian forces hold out for two years before they retreat. During the retreat, Alban soldiers slaughter a number of Ontarian regiments. Alban forces subsequently establish a perimeter 45 mi (72 km) east of Syracuse and bunker down for the winter.
  • April 1, 1745 - June 6, 1750: [Layarteb] Alban forces attack and defeat the Ontarian military in several dozen battles around the Syracuse area. The city falls ending the near 300 year civil war.
  • December 1, 1750: [Layarteb] Sander Young, still alive, is captured and publically hanged in Layarteb City on January 15, 1751.

Deletions
  • Year 2000 BC: [Layarteb] First records of civilization show that the area known as "Layarteb" was first settled by nomadic herders around 2000 BC. Records are sparse until 513 AD.
  • Year 513: [Layarteb] First revolt against the Dominion of Tnemrot occurs. According to history and legend, Comhghall is born this year. The revolt effectively saw the brief sacking of Syracuse but ended when Tnemration warriors broke the siege later that year.
  • Year 570: [Layarteb] Second revolt against the Dominion of Tnemrot occurs. According to history and legend, this revolt was minor around the city of Syracuse. It appears to have occurred in direct response to the Tnemration declaration of Syracuse as their capital, previously removing Albany.
  • Year 666: [Layarteb] Third revolt against the Dominion of Tnemrot occurs. Thousands are killed over a thirteen year period beginning in 666 AD. Guerilla forces conquer Syracuse from Tnemration control but famine soon breaks out, which kills most of the people. Between war and plagues, an estimated 50,000 to 95,000 people are killed over this thirteen year period. Legend stipulates this as the return of Comhghall and the beginning of his war against the goddess Luna and is often the allegory for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
  • Year 996: [Cotland] Cottish explorer Eirik the Red discovers North America, more precisely Newfoundland.
  • Year 1001: [Cotland] Leiv Eiriksson, son of Eirik the Red leads a colonization party that travels to Newfoundland and founds a Cottish colony named Vinland.
  • Year 1100: [Layarteb] An earthquake, estimated with a magnitude of 5.5, strikes the Dominion of Tnemrot causing widespread destruction in Syracuse. It is blamed on the gods.
  • Year 1102: [Cotland] The colony in Vinland is abandoned due to failing crops and many deaths due to hostile natives.
  • October 31, 1157: [Layarteb] The first declaration of independence by the Layartebian people, a unified title for the Four Tribes of Tnemrot: the Syracusians, the Albans, the Champlains, the Ontarians. The war lasts 58 years and sees the death of almost 200,000 men, women, and children due to famine, disease, and war. It includes multiple naval battles along the Hudson River, Lake Ontario, and Lake Champlain.
  • December 1, 1215: [Layarteb] The Treaty of Layarteb is signed in newly named Layarteb City (Manhattan Island). It establishes Layarteb as a federation of four, independent governments, each ruled by one of the Four Tribes. It was very harsh to the Dominion of Tnemrot and defined Layarteb as what would become modern day New York. Albans had rule over the south of the country, the Champlains to the far north, the Ontarians to the west, and the Syracusians, the largest group, held the bulk of the center of the country. It set up a High Council consisting of one leader from each government and rotated an "Overlord" position amongst the four tribes on a four-year basis.
  • Year 1222: [Layarteb] The government of Layarteb was given a constitution, which largely was a copy of the Treaty of Layarteb with some exceptions. It titled the country as the Confederacy of Layarteb and allowed for the High Council to elect the Overlord rather than rotate through the tribes. Ynoga, a Syracusian, is elected as the first Overlord but he dies during a plague on his sixth term.
  • Year 1265: [Layarteb] Brom is elected as the Overlord following weak successors to Ynoga. He rules for an astonishing 50 years and he institutes many changes to the Confederacy of Layarteb. He is one of only two Alban rulers of the Confederacy of Layarteb.
  • Year 1305: [Cotland, Layarteb] Cottish explorers returning to recolonize Vinland are caught in a storm and are washed up far off course, only to discover a bustling civilization called Layarteb in North America.
  • Year 1315: [Layarteb] Brom is assassinated by Champlain separatists. The capital of Layarteb remains Syracuse, which is on the border of Champlain and Syracusian territory. The Champlains are subsequently barred from the Confederacy and border skirmishes begin between the Champlains and the Confederacy of Layarteb. Border clashes continue for over 100 years but see no major changes to the territorial bounds of either nation.
  • Summer 1342: [Layarteb] A mysterious ship is found adrift in the Long Island Sound. Investigation quickly determines that the entire crew is dead. Fearing witchcraft or some horrible disease, the ship is burned and destroyed in the Long Island Sound. Historians believe that this ship was a Cottish trade ship, which brought the Bubonic Plague to Layarteb.
  • Summer 1342 - Summer 1345: [Layarteb] Layarteb experiences the Black Plague during which time approximately 1/3 of the populace of the country is wiped out by the disease. The disease is seen as punishment from the goddess Luna for war against Tnemrot.
  • January 4, 1402: [Cotland, Layarteb] A formal trade agreement is made between the Kingdom of Cotland and the Confederacy of Layarteb, marking the first intercontinental trade agreement in history.
  • Year 1450: [Layarteb] The government of Layarteb votes to move the capital of Layarteb to Layarteb City with the Fortress of Comhghall as the new center of the government. By now, Layarteb City is the largest trade city in North America. The Confederacy of Layarteb returns to peace.
  • January 9, 1456: [Layarteb] The High Council votes 2 to 1 to allow the Champlains to rejoin the Confederacy of Layarteb. The Albans, who had voted 'nay' vow vengeance for the assassination of Brom some 141 years earlier.
  • April 5, 1456: [Layarteb] An Alban mob assaults and slaughters the Champlain delegation to Layarteb in Layarteb City. It is significant to note that this occurs during a lunar eclipse though there is speculation as to whether or not this was seen in Layarteb City. A historical account cites it but scientific evidence suggests it would have been barely visible in Layarteb City.
  • Spring - Summer 1456: [Layarteb] After the Champlain slaughter, Alban mobs begin targeting and killing Ontarian and Syracusian traders and merchants in Layarteb City as "revenge" for the vote earlier that year.
  • September 8, 1456: [Layarteb] The High Council votes in secrecy to move the capital back to Syracuse, allow the Champlains to return to the Confederacy of Layarteb, and to expel the Albans. The Albans are excluded from the vote. However, within hours, the results of the vote become known publically.
  • September 10, 1456: [Layarteb] The High Council is assassinated by castle guards and an Alban named Hadray elects himself Overlord and unilaterally expels the Ontarians, the Champlains and the Syracusians from Layarteb.
  • February 28, 1458: [Layarteb] A combined invasion force of Champlain, Ontarian, and Syracusian warriors attempt to land on Staten Island with 45,000 troops. They are defeated by Alban warriors planning an invasion of Champlain territory.

  • September 16, 1458: [Layarteb] The siege is lifted when Buffalo falls to Alban warriors, of which 80,000 participated. An uneasy peace is declared by the Alban warriors with the Champlains and Syracusians. Border skirmishes occur regularly.
  • Spring 1492: [Layarteb] The first Catholic missionaries from the Roman Empire arrive in Layarteb and introduce Catholicism to the Layartebian people for the first time. Until the establishment of the Republic of Layarteb in late 1791, Catholic missionaries and Layartebian Pagans fight a number of small, religious wars. Catholic missionaries are subject to significant persecution by Layartebian Pagans.
  • July 18, 1585: [Layarteb] A massive Alban invasion force of 350,000 warriors invades Champlain territory and lay siege to Potsdam, the Champlain capital within 3 years.
  • Year 1589: [Cotland, Layarteb] A Cottish merchant ship is attacked by Alban warships, who mistake it for an enemy vessel. Outraged, King Sigurd III declares war on Layarteb. The war sees the Cottish fleet expanded greatly, and a bitter trade war commences.
  • Year 1591: [Cotland, Layarteb] The Cottish-Layartebian Trade War ends with the Treaty of Layarteb City, in which Cotland receives a formal apology from Layarteb along with compensation to the owners of the original attacked warship.
  • January 1, 1596: [Layarteb] Potsdam falls to Alban warriors. Until 1732, the Albans and the Syracusians exist peacefully with little border skirmishes and plenty of trade. An apology is issued by the Syracusian government for their forgiveness of the Champlains and the subsequent expulsion of the Albans from the government in 1456.

Amen."

In pre-update news, the Imperial Layartebian Military will come down by 20,000 men to 6,905,000 men. The reduction comes solely out of JSOC since I have revised the Black Operations Command with some major consolidation. My version of JSOC is now just 80,000 men instead of 100,000 men.

This isn't that many considering that the entirety of USSOCOM is 71,500 men and while US JSOC accounts for only 4,000 of those men for me JSOC is the entirety of Special Ops so I'm only about 8,500 men more than USSOCOM.

This has been added. Additionally, the current claims for RomeW's land are inactive and thus no longer recognized due to inactivity.

    • Classification: Claim, Story
    • Synopsis: Aurius Osius Belluso and his political ally Aucius Orius Cerusea attempt to undo the damages of a madman that threw the world's oldest state into chaos and prepare to battle their enemies on numerous fronts - both on the Senate floor, and on the field of battle
    • Miscellaneous Notes: This thread will feature the re-unification of the Roman Empire/Commonwealth into the Roman Republic, like of old; if you'd like to get into the story, please message me and let's see if we can figure something out. Right now, only confirmed actor will be Layarteb, but the room is open for more just please don't be ridiculous with it.

That was my fault, I tried doing a full time job and returning to school full time at the same time, and it didn't work, especially when you had a girlfriend into it. How do I go about at getting back, I promise it won't happen again :)

Roger, post is indeed up. A bit short, but I'll make up for that soon. Marm, I'll be getting back to you in the coming post, I was wondering if it was okay if the first part was Cerusea going "fuck yea, let's do that" and then in the next POV in the post, him telling Belluso he got support, but not how :P

Sweet, if you wouldn't mind telegramming me the particulars of what "support" means from the cartel, that'd be awesome.

Not that this needs saying but this claim is even more than invalidated due to the CTE

Minor project for the folks and folkettes of Earth II - would you all mind terribly going onto Google Maps and looking at New York City and telegramming me the coordinates for your embassies? If you have consulates marked in other cities by all means go ahead and send me them too.
