Well, between my fleet and yours, I had nothing planned.

The stuff with the Terraformer and Xiscapia's guys on the ground, however, I can't really skip over, at least not until everyone is safe and sound aboard the Terraformer.

Sorry about the delay in posting, I hope no one minds the generally slower pace of slowing so far.

Also, I wanted to ask, is there anything in the UCR naval arsenal suitable for disabling hostile vessels? Things seem to be racing towards destruction, so I'm curious about what the chances of DC characters being taken prisoner are.

Well, the 19th Fleet isn't exactly known for being keen on taking prisoners. That being said, the LMAs and missiles can be loaded with ultra-high intensity EMP charges. So those can knock out a lot of stuff. Also, most of the Valhalla-Class carry some sort of cyber-warfare suite onboard. If you haven't updated your antivirus software, could be trouble.

That's interesting! While the 19th Fleet isn't keen on taking prisoners, if there is a possibility of that eventuality making sense given the IC background of this particular situation, then I think it might be an interesting avenue to explore.

I should mention as well that New Frontier Class Cruisers like Tipton's flagship Challenger are effectively disabled if the aft module, which is where the matter/anti-matter reactor as well as the engines are, suffers damage. The risk of anti-matter containment loss means that entire aft module can be detached from the rest of the vessel by explosive bolts if it looks like the reactor's going to blow, leaving the main section of the vessel intact but without enough power to fire any weapons save for some of the point defense guns.

Additionally, the New Frontier class cruisers should probably be resistant to most viruses and such as the shipboard AIs adaptively protect the computer systems, but the smaller corvettes which don't have AI systems would likely be more vulnerable to that particular feature of the Valhalla Class.

Very nifty. For my part, I've finished my ORBAT. With names!!!! I got inspired. Anyways, general rule of thumb for UCR vessels: they are heavily armoured and equipped with huge ass guns. But for the most part, all the big guns are axial-mounts, meaning that the entire ship needs to turn to aim the guns. There are exceptions, but this is usually the case.

And yeah, the 19th may be a fleet full of pricks, but they aren't above mercy. Prisoners could easily be taken, if we wish to explore that avenue.

Yay, ORBAT! I'm excited to have a look once you have it up.

Also, I don't want to lock us into any pre-determined path, but it's good to know what options we have. I'll keep things in mind as we proceed!

I'm sure we could arrange something with Bloodstorm if you're interested/the neat arises. After all, you generally don't execute the people who might end up hiring you later.

This is all very exciting! Before the missiles start flying and the lasers start pew-pewing though, I wanted to ask for more information about the Columbia Conglomerate and the UCR. Just to clarify, and I'm sorry because we've touched on this a bit in TG, but is the UCR able to direct CC to stop providing DC with military goods? Additionally, is hostile action against one automatically deemed as a hostile action against both?

Oh dear. I was hoping that wouldn't come up.......because the answer is complicated!!!!!!

First Question -

The UCR has a document called the "Corporate Independant Operation Act" that is currently in effect. It essentially says that the Columbia Conglomerate, along with two other megacorps in the UCR, are entitled to a certain degree of freedom from regulation and oversight by the federal government. As such, the Columbia Conglomerate owns territory (meaning they provide all the services to these areas, eg; police, fire, medical, electricity, etc). These are known as Corporate Administration Zones, and they are exempt from UCR federal law, and are subject only to the Colubmia Conglomerate's internal policies.

The vast majority of products sold by the Columbia Conglomerate come from these Corporate Administration Zones, and are therefore exempt from any federal laws regarding import/export bans. Under most circumstances, the Columbia Conglomerate goes along with the UCR's list of "DO NOT SELL TO", but if the don't want to, they don't have to. So to answer your question....the UCR can recommend and strongly suggest that the Columbia Conglomerate not sell anything to DC, but the decision is ultimately up to the Columbia Conglomerate.

Question 2 -

This is simpler! Thankfully. Regardless of how autonomous the Columbia Conglomerate is, it's still a UCR company, and therefore an attack on the Columbia Conglomerate would be considered an attack on the UCR as a whole.

However, the same is not true the other way around. Attacking the UCR isn't considered to nessecarily be an attack on the Columbia Conglomerate. While generally the Conlumbia Conglomerate will go along with UCR federal policy and such, it's entirely possible that they would continue dealing with a nation whom is at war with the UCR.

Long story short, the Columbia Conglomerate is morally bankrupt and are entirely concerned with profits, and nothing more.

Well, I set up the UCR as what happens when Starship Troopers collides head-on with like, Resident Evil and such. Thr Columbia Conglomerate is a faithful mix of Weyland-Yutani, the Umbrella Corporation, and the Shinra Power Company.

But they're not really evil either. They're just....concerned entirely with making money. If they do it through helping orphans, then so be it. If they do it through turning orphans into Soylent Green, they don't care.

As I said; the CC is a morally bankrupt corporation that is about one step away from enacting a coup on the government and installing a corporate republic

Good lord. That's, like, inhuman amounts of stupidity, given the track records of those three companies.

Yup. That's the point! I mean, the Columbia Conglomerate isn't as blatantly evil or amoral, but break through the crust of neutrality and the entire thing is rotten to the core. So....yeah. It's the dystopian megacorp cranked up to 11

How exciting, I hope the gods of university admission smile upon you!

I was writing up a post for the IC thread, but I realized I wasn't sure - did you intend for the Wildfire worm to take action immediately disabling vessels, or is it something that will remain dormant until a second transmission activates it and prompts it to disable the targeted vessels? I was proceeding as though it would attempt to immediately disable the DC ships, but I don't know if that's what you intended.

Ah, right. That info would probably help....

Wildfire is a trojan-style virus who's payload contains the actual worm. The trojan piggybacks on the standard transmission protocols used by almost everyone, and once aboard the hostile vessel(s), the worm is downloaded onto their computers disguised as harmless transmission kernels and such.

Once Wildfire is activated, it begins launching a series of attacks on the mainframe (this can change depending on what the worm was modified for); the one that is being used now will attempt to force the computers to divided by zero, try and force a total core dump to overload the vessel's processing systems, or just try and shut off the guns and reactor. Nasty stuff like that.

In this situation, the worm is on a timer; once the hour mentioned in the message is up, Wildfire will automatically spring to life. Until then, it's dormant, disguised as just the normal signal stuff that gets sent with any message.

And Xiscapia! You're free to imagine whatever delightful goodies are aboard the supply ship. It'd take too long to list everything, so just use your imagination!
