Expansion of the Oogium [CLOSED, FT, FAR only]

Postby Oogium » Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:40 am

The Chancellor sat down, speech complete. He had been trying to convince the Senate to appropriate funding for a series of new colonial expeditions. The ships were there, but many were idling. The equipment was just gathering dust. The corporations weren't going to do colonies, really, all they wanted to do was mine, and maybe once they're done build some robotic plantations or factories. Lots of Oog wanted to head out and colonize a new world, but they needed government backing to do so. The Official Counterperson spoke. "All in favor?"
Senators silently pressed small buttons in their hoverbooths. "All against?"
The Chancellor pressed his lips together, worried. He was asking for a lot of money, would it get through, would Lkzblf try to- "Then I declare this motion passes unanimously."

The Imperial government was out within days, chartering terraformer ships and colony ships, buying equipment, pouring in incredible amounts of money. Volunteers were recruited, and there were millions. The government began building some new ships to carry them all, manufacturing some terraformation machinery. It would be perhaps a year before the new ships were ready, but that was of no consequence. Hundreds of colony and terraformer ships headed out from the Oogium in every direction, escorted by naval cruisers, destroyers and corvettes. The speed with which it happened was rather shocking. One day it was in a Senate vote, a few days later and the first few ships were heading out for one or two of the thousands of planets COLMIN had identified as being suitable for colonization. The Empire, when all was said and done, would have expanded about 20 light-years in every direction.

On board the colony ship Married To A Far Horizon, little Sdra Mznksriank was just getting into her cabin with her parents. She was very young, and would likely not remember her time on Oogworld, but was delighted with this new place. Her favorite color was purple, and this ship's hull was made of hardtomakium, which is usually purple or dark blue. I.e., she'd just seen and gone inside a multi-kilometer ship that was an embodiment of her favorite color. Her parents, seeing how excited she was, decided she needed a nap. As she fell asleep, the immense colony ship, flanked by two terraformer ships and four cruisers, lifted off and slipped into space. There was a flash, and the ship smoothly transitioned into slipspace.

The Far Horizon transitioned out of slipspace a few days later. The terraformer ships and two of the cruisers headed for the system's second world, while the huge colony ship hung back. Until the terraforming was complete it would not land colonists, but it would send down construction teams to begin the erection of a city for them to live in. The planet had some large hardtogetium deposits as well as (after terraforming) a perfect enviroment for citruses, which the Oog love. It would become a prosperous little world, and had been named Hjla't'Enek, "Prosperous Third", as it was being colonized during the Third Expansion.

It all happened during one of the early-morning cycles on the bridge of the GKSC Harmonious Union, an Infinity-Class Dreadnought Ships, and the flagship of the Third Holy Fleet. Nd'Jamnud, the Assessor of the Third Fleet, Fourth through seventh Armies, and one of the most powerful people in all of Transoxthraxia, was at it's head, half-asleep in the admiral's chair, still waking up from a poor night's sleep.

The Methane environment was totally devoid of oxygen - just like the Transoxthraxians liked it. They were reptilian Methane breathers. They would die via asphyxiation if they ever entered an Oxygenated environment. That is why all of the crew that operate or take residence on a GKSC ship were equipped with a hardened Exo-Suit that was armored and held a storage of Methane that can last up to twelve hours.

However, this "early morning" of the Third Fleet - Each Fleet had it's own timezone, so not to disturb or confuse the various Biarchs - Something was about to happen that was to change the entire course of Transoxthraxian history as they knew it. As Nd'Jamnud was waking up, one of his many shipboard AI appeared next to him on one of the armrests of the chair. He was designed to look like an ancient Imperial Transoxthraxian, and it was very convincing. He spoke with a central accent as well.

The little Holographic figure bowed to the Assessor. "Master," the hologram said. "We are tracking a development through space. Probable craft."

Nd'Jamnud's reptilian eyes suddenly widened. "Who is it? Surely it can't be the first two fleets. Are we getting a visit from the God-King?" His voice was still groggy, but a hint of panic shone through.

There was a pause from the AI as he checked the scheduling records. "No, no. The visit isn't scheduled for another two months. And the current trajectory of these craft are much different than those used by the God-King."

"Wait... Did you say these?" He was now fully awake. "There's more than one?" He turned to the rest of the bridge. "I want Nav tracking those vessels. Plutar-Biarch, bring the shields to full potential, And Chamnund?" He addressed the AI. "Contact the fleet. Tell them unknowns are coming, potentially hostile." His reptilian tongue passed over his serrated teeth and he cracked a smile. "We're going to have a field day."

Just as he finished saying this, the Oog colony sortie arrived.

OOC: The third fleet is the smallest Fleet of the three, consisting of roughly thirty ships, with only five being capital ships, the rest are either cruisers or frigates

On the Far Horizon

The Oogish commander looked up. "What?"
The other Oog looked at her nervously. "Yes, ma'am. At least thirty ships, possibly enemy."
"Pull out terraformers and cruisers back. Send them this message." She paused while the other Oog shouted orders to the bridge crew. "Greetings. I am Shipmistress Ay-lr Klgamn of the Imperial Oogish colony ship Married To A Far Horizon. May I ask, who are you, and why are you here? The second planet in this system has been claimed by the Oogish Empire, and we are here to colonize it."

Nd'Jamnud looked at a holo-screen through the foggy methane atmosphere.

A Nav-Officer yelled something from his post. "My great Assessor, they're sending some sort of message - It's a language, we've never seen before."

Nd'Jamnud nearly roared his response. "THEN GET TRANSLATING." He said, and turned back to the holo-screen that displayed the small collection of fleets. The AI who had been assigned to translate the language was possibly the most impressive piece of material on the entire ship. It held a key to language patterns of every single sentient species they'd stumbled across, and some they'd killed off. It compared the message to language patterns form the data base and was able to discern a rough translation after a number of tense minutes.

The message scrawled across one of the holo-screes in the armrest of the Assessor's chair. Greetings. I *Unknown* *Unreadable* the Imperial [Probable] Oogish *Unknown* Ship. Married *Unknown* Far Horizon [Probable] Who are you [Logic Fill in]. Why you *Unknown* [the word here is probable]. The *Unkown* *Unknown* in this government [Possible Synonym may apply] claimed by *Unknown* Imperial [Probable], and here [probable] to [take it for ourselves]

It took Nd'Jamnud a second to decipher it. They're here to take our planet? He thought over. He the relayed a message to one of the COMM-Biarchs on the bridge to type out a reply in Transoxthraxian first, and, if they did not respond, their language.

The message sent was:

"Dear unknowns. You are in Transoxthraxian space control. We are a nation of great military prowess. If you are here to take our planet from us, prepare to fight. If this is a mistake, we request permission to come aboard and discuss further diplomatic relations."

He then turned back to one of the free AI, who had appeared on the left armrest, bowing, dressed in Eastern Kingdom garb from the era of the fall of the first Transoxthraxian Empire. "Relay a message to the God-King himself. Top priority, his eyes only. Tell him what we've found.

Light from the static of coming off its drive bathed a small Galbadiian Frigate as it entered the system at the bare edge of this systems gravity well. The Captain Rotheri was securly seated aboard his Siren class frigate, the Diomena. The ships black paint and lack of marking clearly defined it as a piracy craft, but the Galbadiians aboard, due to some cultural rule were called corsairs. The small ship was fitted with the best a former noble man from Galbadiia could Afford state of the art cloaking shell adorned the outside of the ship giving it a dull and blunted look, with only the occasional hardpoint being viasble beneath the covering.

This one ship was the first among many Corsair craft moving south along with the expanding Coalition trade network. Stiifining border patrols and response forces had made piracy near Coalition space, particuparly Alidinan space, unprofitable and the quickest way to towards a hangmans noose or firing squad.

The Shipsmistress recoiled as the AI told her the other race's response. Then she smiled nastily. "They outnumber us, so tell them this. Ahem. We would appreciate your coming aboard for further diplomacy." She paused. "And send this message to NAVCOM...."

The fleet leader got the garbled reply.

"Alright." Said Nd'Jamnud. "Assemble my boarding party. Exo-suits, ceremonial swords, the entire garb." He said to one of the AI. He then turned to one of the NAV officers. "Inform the rest of the fleet to stand down, but if I give the signal, to open fire on the biggest ship." He turned to the door, as the AI started the mobilization of the ship. Nd'Jamnud opened the intercom of the ship. "All crew to your battle stations. This is not a drill. This includes Soldiers and marines. This may get ugly. Prepare for battle, my soldiers." He then turned towards the door.

"Where are you going?" One of the officers asked.

"To get ready," Nd'Jamnud replied. "For the greatest moment in Transoxthraxian history."

Imperial observation dispatch

Postby Terra Novam » Wed Feb 06, 2013 6:07 am

A small wormhole opened on the far side of the system; and after a few seconds, closed again.
Whether anyone noticed was of no concern, Command declared, for it was in the Empire's best interests to keep a close eye on all other major powers inhabitinbg this galaxy, which was unknown to the Terrans.

A lone squadron of drone ships, 2 Carriers and 3 Destroyers who had emerged from the wormhole quickly cloaked themselves and headed for a position to the side of the upcoming skirmish.

The Terran command ship made a quick observation, and then relayed its orders to its squadron.
Two factions detected. Faction #1: Oogium. Recognized as friendly. Faction #2: Transoxthraxia. Allegiance unknown; threat level minor. 2 Concord observation drones detected; property of neutral faction.
Oogium fleet has trespassed Transoxthraxian borders; unaware of this fact. Faction #2 about to open hostilities. Confirm.

Four simultanious messages entered the command ship's comm relays: "Confirmed. Reccomended course of action?"

To carriers: prepare fighters for /HOT LAUNCH\. To all: execute protocol packet /HAZARDOUS ENVIROMMENT - CIRCUMSTANTIAL SELF-DEFENSE\. Record and /LIVE BROADCAST\ events to Terra Novam Command. Do not fire unless provoked. Stand-by for further instructions.

Solid copy. Solid copy. Solid copy. Solid copy.

The Imperial drones spread out a little and moved closer to the opposing forces, still fully cloaked. 120 drone fighters were prepped to launch immediately in case of trouble, but for now they would only watch. Study their battle tactics and combat effectiveness.
The drones waited for the hostilities to begin...

Terran Drones are not to be underestimated. They are commanded by self-aware artificial intelligences and will perform actions based on judgement and not on programming. While they are far less effective than organic warships, drones can still go head to head with most alien heavy targets and win.

The Shipmistress squinted at her console. She could have sworn something just slipped into the system....but no matter. The other...whoever they weres...were sending a dropship over. She straightened her uniform and had her ships pull into formation.

NAVCOM had not been idle when it got the Far Horizon's message. There were 95,000 civilians on board that colony ship, and it was being targeted by at least 30 other warships of a previously unknown species. Not good. So, they figured overkill was better than underkill. 5 Oogish battlecruisers, 7 destroyers and 14 cruisers had been immediately dispatched from a nearby base. The base did not have the capability to dock colony ships or naval capital ships, however.

The GKSC Harmonious Union Sped towards the previously unknown ships. By now, N'dJamnud had readied his battle dress and collected his guard around him, and they were awaiting one of their Spectre-Class Non-atmospheric Transport Ships to be readied and piloted. Each of his guard were equipped with their standard weapons, their Vibro-pikes, an electrically charged lance that stung when stabbed with. The guard were in their finest dress uniform, with their finest exo-suit armor deployed, shimmering from yellow to gold to red as they moved around. These warriors were the best of the best, chosen to protect one of the most important Transoxthraxians in the universe.

The Spectre was finally ready, and they boarded the interior of the transport, which was relatively bare. As they went in, the guards checked their secondary weapons, much more modern things, rather than their vibro-pikes, that they would keep sheathed until any danger was present. Along with them was a much smaller Transoxthraxian, with no armor and only a re-breather. This man's duty was to keep all of the translation similarities between the two languages and be a mediator.

Nd'Jamnud himself was equipped with a ceremonial sword and a plasma pistol. The sword was technically ceremonial, but it had seen much more use as a real sword than most of the Vibro-pikes in the same room as him.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Aboard the Spectre-Class Transport

After leaving the dreadnought's under-belly hangar, the transport rapidly sped towards the opposing ships, flanked on either side by two fighter bombers. The room within the transport was silent, except for the metallic breathing from the re-breathers that the exo-suits were equipped with. They reached the ship's hangar, and docked, standing up waiting for the cargo doors to open and to step onto the foreign ship. The guards formed into two lines behind Nd'Jamnud, and were in perfect formation.

Nd'Jamnud was going for shock and awe. He whispered into his mic, "Remember, if I give the word, blow the ship up, with us in it." His voice, affected by the metallic re-breather, was louder than he had hoped.

Shipmistress Klgamn moves to the bridge door and has the shipboard AI, T'r'ata, send the dropship directions as to where to enter the ship and where to proceed from there. The AI has analyzed the xeno's language enough that it can send them this in their language rather than that of the Oog. She also powers up the colony ship's shields, weak though they are, and orders the terraformer ships and cruisers to follow her lead.

Aboard the Oogish Colony Ship

Nd'Jamnud watched as the cargo bay doors opened, and the guards filed out, he walking in between the two lines of guards. He stood there, waiting for some sort of welcoming party.

Nd'Jamnud did nothing in acknowledgement but a nod and fierce beat upon his chest, a gesture of greeting a new person in Transoxthraxian culture. Then he held out his hand, indicating that the officer should lead on. All the while, the troops around him didn't move an inch.

The small Oogish officer led them through a maze of passageways, guiding them unerringly to a gravity link. He gestured at the Transothraxians to do as he did, and lept into the tunnel. He almost immediately vanished, sucked off towards the bridge.

Most of the Transoxthraxians, including Nd'Jamnud had to duck through these tunnels so as not to bash their heads and precious re-breathers on anything. Once the party got to the gravity lift, two of the guard went first, to make sure it was safe. Nd'Jamnud went third, adn the rest of the guard followed suit.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

The Oogish officer appeared to leap out of the tunnel, though in actuality it was just the programmed gravity tunnel depositing him at his selected destination. The Shipmistress turned. "Ma'am, they're here."
"Thank you, Lieutenant. You may go."
"Yes ma'am." He leaped back into the gravity tunnel, but had it hold him still while he had the shipboard AI tell them to stay on the bridge. Then he sped off.

Next to the Shipmistress were two 9 foot tall Augments. They were in battle armor and heavily armed, but unlike most Oog in the room, made no attempt to conceal it.

The contingent of honor guard and Nd'Jamnud were now on the bridge. The entire group of the honor guard fell to one knee and bowed, while Nd'Jamnud gave the same knock on his chest that he had given the junior officer. "I take it you can understand me, if you are able to reproduce our language." He said flatly, his voice slightly distorted by the re-breather. The people around him and in the bridge were tiny, except for the two armored soldiers next to whom he guessed was the equivalent of him on this ship.

The Shipmistress paused, waiting for the translation. Then she spoke to the AI, who would speak to the xenos directly. "Yes, we can. It is a pleasure to meet you."

The councilor nodded slightly. "And you. My name is Arch-Assessor Nd'Jamnud, Patriarch of the third fleet and Third in the triumvirate of the Transoxthraxian Assessors. Who may you be, and why are these two behemoths standing next to you?
