On an arbitrary note, since I finally got to my laptop....

The Nuclear Fist wrote:It explains the properties of the stuff, but not actually what it does and how it does it. Also, you said infestation, which implies it is alive.

So, how does it work?

As far as what it does. Flowmetal transforms regular matter and elements, compounds, molecules, etc, into proton-electron pairs in close proximity to itself. Flowmetal exists, in the physical universe, as these pairs; it is a self-replicating material. This replication process can occur idly as the natural state of the substance, or at a more rapid rate when directed to do so by one of the Chosen. The conversion process is relatively rapid, breaking approximately 1 gram of matter into constituent subatomic particles per square centimeter of exposed flowmetal surface area every two seconds assuming optimal conditions and direct surface-to-surface contact. The interaction relies upon a waveform whose intensity follows the inverse square law over distance, and so the viable conversion range from active flowmetal particulate is a matter of about two meters; beyond this range the long chi waveform has insufficient energy to interfere in all but the weakest of atomic or molecular bonds, such as Van der Waal interactions and hydrogen bonding.

As far as how it does it. At the heart of each flowmetal particle there is a small point, mere picometers across, through which the energies of the Dive gain egress into the material world. The Dive is a stillborn universe, in which the fundamental forces never separated; as such, its composition is an ill-defined state of matter best addressed as a waveform- it is neither a particle nor a wave, much like light, but functions with the qualities of both. It occurs in a paired state, the long and short chi waveforms. The longer waveform is, oddly given the nature of most energy waves, more energetic than the short form, and has a wavelength of between two hundred and five hundred nanometers, rendering it dangerous to most beings, but rapidly attenuated when passing through all but the most material-bereft mediums. The short waveform is less energetic, and has a wavelength of seventy five nanometers; this number does not vary, for unknown reasons, and has been observed to be constant in all occurrences so far cataloged. Long story short, when the long waveform interacts with regular matter- protons, electons, quarks, etc- it disrupts the fundamental forces upon which their order is based. With the electroweak interaction no longer valid, all matter is reduced to a seething morass of free subatomic particles. These particles are inherently attracted to the small bleed-through points of the Dive due to a high attraction from the strong nuclear force, where they encounter the short waveform and settle into stead orbitals, one electrons orbiting the nexus with one proton paired. Their electrostatic attraction is repelled by the continuous flow of energy from the nexus, and they settle into a decaying orbit.

That is where the Chosen come in. Their consciousnesses are literally the stuff of which the Dive is made, undifferentiated energy-wave matrixes that are contained within their flowmetal forms. Those consciousnesses are capable of supplementing the decaying orbits of billions of flowmetal pairs with additional energy, allowing them to sustain their existence in RealSpace indefinitely. Through further manipulation of the short chi waveform the Chosen can cause these pairs to integrate further protons, electrons, and even neutrons into their orbitals, even to the point of mimicking regular elements and compounds; the chi waveforms are still detectable to those who know what to look for though.

As for the infestation, there are two manners by which large quantities of flowmetal matrices may gain sentience, though in context I was speaking of a controlled transformation directed by on-site Techsins- thus an infestation. One, aspects of the Dive have over the years occasionally become self-aware; these consciousnesses may then transfer themselves through nexii into the material universe, where they may temporarily invest themselves into flowmetal concentrations large enough to support their psyches. The Chosen theorize the introduction of Dive transit has influenced the fabric of BelowSpace; the passage of real matter through the primordial slop has caused noticeable changes, such as the formation of the Veil- which is not recorded in early manuscripts. These emergent consciousnesses are likely a similar manifestation. Two, the Chosen can foment the formation of consciousnesses within flowmetal matrices by introducing fragments of prism consciousnesses into appropriate structures, then guiding their development into full-blown psyches.

To be fair..... I think I only managed to destroy one world?

That was a rogue Techsin in the Nare's Ending also; I don't anticipate having to go quite as genocidal in FAR, unless someone decides to step on my petunias.

The Nuclear Fist wrote:So how do you combat flowmetal? It seems pretty OP, but since G-Tech is RP'ing it, I'd imagine he's doing it well.

Well flowmetal is susceptible to both deformation and outright destruction in multiple manners. It very much follows the rule of function follows form; slamming a flowmetal Servitor from a humanoid form into a hunk of twisted matter will force it to take time to reassert its original form, and blowing limbs etc off of my lads is as just effective as you would expect. They won't bleed out, obviously, but... well, they won't have that arm. As far as outright destruction, too much imparted energy overloads the flowmetal orbitals, causing them to slew off their constituent particles, collapse into the nexii and evaporate from the physical universe, or some combination of the two. Furthermore, cutting a flowmetal form off from its controlling Chosen puppeteer will return it to its basic decaying state, wherein the separate entity will deteriorate rapidly, ceasing to exist within a matter of an hour or three. The decay process is relatively random, but the average half-life is an four thousand seconds, give or take.

Civilization: Khepra
Civilization Name: The Natra'sam Ital
Common Name: Migrant Fleets
Government type: Communal Merito-Kritarchy
Dominate Cultures: Khepri
Home/Capital planet Ajiran (Homeworld)
Government Information The Natra'sam Ital ("Flotilla of the Khepri" in English) is a meritocratic kritarchy. Each admiral of the seven Khepri fleets make and pass laws that affect the Migrant Fleets as a whole. There is no such "ruler" over the admirals themselves, and as such, each admiral holds the same amount of power. However, the accomplishments of each admiral generally determine how much value their opinion is held.

Technology focus: Primarily around ship engineering, as their entire lives (around survival) revolve around the well-being of the fleets.
Military Doctrine: Primarily naval focused.
Foreign policy: Semi-interventionist borderline isolationist
Technological Age: Roughly 350 years more advanced than present-day (21st Century) humans
FTL Age: 120 years
FTL type: "True" Faster-than-Light
Military information: The Khepri are technologically gifted, able to dissect and replicate most forms of technologically they come across. While they are primarily naval focused, the Khepri Star Corps, or "Migrant Marines" as they are commonly referred to, are still a force not to be taken lightly. While their basic ships use kinetic weaponry ranging from simple A.I infused missiles to magnetic accelerator cannons, the heavier capital ships can make use of their mining laser to great effect on enemy ships. Unlike their ships, ground forces make usage of directed energy weapons for personal arms to plasma cannons for vehicles.
Population: Approximately 39 Million
Founding species: Khepri
Other Species: None
Sphere of Influence size: Non-existent due to nomadic behavior
Major Civilian industries/services: None, as currency is non-existent in the Flotilla, a type of bartering system is instead used.
Society and Cultural information: The current society and culture of the Khepri comes as a result of the loss of their homeworld, Ajiran, and their subsequent move to a nomadic life style. Roughly 500 years ago, the Khepri were forced to abandon Ajiran due to high level of pollution and radiation caused from high industrialization and a global nuclear war. The surviving members of the species, which trickled in at roughly 35 million, were forced to live about the old freighters and troop transports of the once famed Khepran Navy. As a result of this, Khepran society is very close-knit and revolves around the survival of the fleet and species.

Species name: Khepri
Respiratory Gas: Chlorine
Base Form: Boron
life span: 70-80 years
Natural defenses/abilities: Fight or flight
Aggression: Generally passive
Information: The Khepri (Khepri: Ital) are an communal, anthropodal humanoid race native to the planet Ajiran. They average almost 2m tall, though there is a considerable amount of variation in this. Their blood chemistry is based on Copper, and their main Chlorine transport molecule bears some resemblance to Terrestrial haemocyanin, giving their blood a blue-green color.

The Khepri themselves have more closed circulatory systems with veins and arteries; however, the capillary networks of Terran vertebrates are replaced by a more open system. The Khepri operate this semi-open system with two major hearts, each of the hearts pumping blood through a smaller area of the body. This is simultaneously a more complex and more redundant system than humans have.

The respiratory system of the Khepri shares the spiracles of Earth arthropods, but connects them to a much more lunglike structure. Special communicator Khepri also connect the lungs to a modified secondary mouth and vocal chords, allowing them to make most of the phonemic sounds of humanoid languages. This last trait is not native, but rather a genetic modification introduced after the advent of the Khepri stellar age.

Unlike other insects, the Khepri go through a direct developmental life cycle that consists of an egg and adult stage. The egg stage can last anywhere from nine-to-twelve months, with complete hatching by the juvenile khperi lasting only several minutes. The newly hatched Khepri are fairly vulnerable as they have not yet formed a protective exoskeleton. Young Khepri molt frequently, roughly every one-two months in the first ten years of life. By age 18, they are fully grown and their exoskeleton fully hardens into a protective chitinous armor that offers some protection from low-level kinetic weaponry (handguns and low-velocity rifles). Around this age, the Khepri also becomes sexually mature.

Khepri reproduce by means of sexual reproduction involving the fertilization of the female's egg by the male sperm. Unlike insects, which utilizes external fertilization, the Khepri use internal fertilization. Once fertilized, the female Khepri lays two clutches (of two eggs) roughly two weeks apart, allowing for a potential of four offspring to be hatched. However, because of the movement of the Khepri to the Flotilla, genetic modifications were introduced that forces three of the eggs to become polar, and consequently not allow the development of offspring.

Civilization:Leerenar
Civilization Name: Colonial Alliance of Leerenar
Common Name: The CA
Government type: Meritocratic Autocracy
Dominate Cultures: Corporate culture
This is a culture similar to a caste system, where people are trained for a purpose within the community from birth. They are expected to do their best and to complete the job despite the means necessary, and failures are punished severely, sometimes with death.

Home/Capital planet: Their home planet was destroyed; Their capital is Y'renar, a class O planet that has been teraformed.
Government Information: This is the Colonial Alliance, or the CA is the largest Leerenar faction. There are five, the CA, the Old Government, the Trade Federation, the Leeran Empire, and the Pinnacle. Of these five, the CA is the largest, most financially stable, and the only one with a progressive military.

Technology focus: Temporal weapon and shield technology. Not time travelling tech, but more similar to this: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Chroniton_torpedo , where "the torpedoes were capable of passing directly through an enemy's shields due to the fact that they were in a constant state of temporal flux." A lot of research is also going into starbase infrastructure and design, as well as asteroid harvesting.
Military Doctrine: The CA, while maintaining a presence in all systems, tends to operate out of starbases more than planets. They are often used in exploration and the beginning stages of colonization. They're usually extremely aggressive and brutal, refusing to take prisoners unless instructed to do so by a higher authority. They consider any given enemy to be expendable, and bear no version of mercy.
Foreign policy: Each situation is unique, but as a general rule, space faring species should be befriended while pre-ftl nations should be colonized.
Technological Age: +125-175
FTL Age: +75-125
FTL type: Warp
Military information: The military largely operates out of starbases, and are used as the defensive force and and police in the CA. Every citizen serves 2 years in the military, where they are honed to progress in their career fields. If someone was raised to be a mechanic, then they'll be further trained as a mechanic, etc etc. The military is outside of the caste system, however, as all those joining start at the lowest ranks, anyone can choose to be a full-time soldier, and anyone can be promoted through the ranks.
It's mainly based in space, and makes almost extreme use of drone technology. Fleet carriers are the most expensive ships in the CA, and they carry almost 20,000 drones on them at any given time-- some more, depending on the engineer. All deep space vehicles are drones, and drones are used in situations where the loss risk of Leeran life is high, such as the first stage of colonization and invasion.

Population:7.5 billion
Founding species:Leerenar
Other Species: No other major species present. Cyborgs are considered members of their previous species, and AI are not considered a species by the Leerenar.
Sphere of Influence size: 10 squares, though we would have surely explored more.
Major Civilian industries/services: Resource Harvesting, Asteroid Harvesting, Medical research, Manufacturing, Virtual Entertainment.
Society and Cultural information: From the outside, the Leeran society looks extremely autocratic and cruel, even brutal, however the culture was born in a genocidal civil war and evolved into one that could survive in such.

NS activity: So far, every day, and I probably will continue to do so, though I will be on here for much less time during the week.
Technological Bases: Star Trek, with bits and pieces of customization.
Prior RP links: None yet.

Species name: Leerenar
Respiratory Gas: Nitrogen
Base Form: Arachnids (If I misunderstood this, please clarify so I can correct it)
life span: 150 years
Natural defenses/abilities: They have the ability to climb vertical surfaces, and can even reside on these surfaces for days without trouble. They have the ability to spin silk, a natural substance that is extremely flexible and strong. They are usually about 5 feet high when on all eight legs, and up 12 when on four. They have eight eyes and three poisonous fangs. They can spit acid-- equivalent to battery acid-- and possess poison in their fangs that can completely paralyze an adult humanoid in seconds. They're able to jump about 30 feet horizontally.
Aggression: They're extremely aggressive when threatened, and are very protective of other members of their species.
Information(Paragraphs):
The Leerans are an ancient species, who have evolved somewhat slowly due to their aggression towards each other and the hostile, volcanic climate on their homeworld. When they did achieve space travel, they almost immediately colonized the other planets in their solar system, and from there nearby solar systems. Factions began to break apart-- The Old Government, the Trade Federation, and the Pinnacle. These three factions broke apart, each staking claims and fighting over the more valuable pieces. Civil war erupted between the three factions, halting most technological and military advancement for almost a century. During this time, however, they continued to expand, colonizing new worlds and building massive starbases. The Empire rose from the chaos, being the first faction to take a planet in the home system from the Old Government, and then destroyed the homeworld in a show of power. The Colonial Alliance rose just after the homeworld was destroyed, angry colonists being treated as slaves joining together. Within a year, 16 colonies had joined the alliance, and drove back the other four factions. Today, they control a total of 43 colonies, 7 starbases, and about 2/3 of the total Leeran population.

I know I don't have a vote, but I'd like to put in my opinion anyways. While overall, it looks like a very good app, Leer, the one thing that bothers me without any RP examples is your temporal weapons. The ability to pass entirely through shields seems a bit OP to me. I know some people tend to lean more towards shields rather than armor for defense.

Custom means she dreamt it up/it has far too many sources to name. I use the same. My main plagiarisms were stealing the word "flowmetal" from The Battle of Corrin and "Omnissah" from Mechanicus lore, but beyond that my civ is just a lot of hot air and moonshine from my dear cracked brain.

Civilization: Emperian
Civilization Name: Emperian Empire
Common Name: The Empire
Government type:Absolute Imperial Monarchy
Dominate Cultures: Emperian
Home/Capital planet Throneworld of Imperia
Government Information (Preferably see factbook) Otherwise the Emperian Empire is run by the Imperial Monarchy principle. Were absolute power is vested in the Emperor and power filters down through a highly centralized and efficient system of governance. Working down from the High Lords of Imperia, to Segmen'tares, Sectors, Subsectors and finally Systems. Other special purpose divisions of space are Reaches (Zones that Imperials are colonizing, basically marches).
Excerpt from Factbook:
The Government of the Imperium is highly centralized with and streamlined, yet complex do to the issues of its vast size. So lets start from the top and work our way down.

The Emperor: Absolute Sovereign of the Empire, His Word is LAW.

Regent of Imperia: Traditionally held when the Emperor is to busy to directly govern the Empire. So far only one person has ever held the title, Malcador the Light-Bringer.

High Lords of Imperia: The High-Lords are the Imperial Senate composed of members not from Imperial Worlds but Imperial Organizations and components.
Officials who are High High Lords:
Regent of Imperia
Master of the Administratum
Inquisition representative (Also known as Hierarch)
Fabricator-General of the Technicus
Grand Provost Marshal of the Adeptus Arbites (Imperial Police)
Grand Master of the Officio Assassinorum
Lord Commander Militant of the Emperian Guard
Abbess Sanctorum of the Sororitas Silentum (Sisters of Silence)
Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes
Lord High Admiral of the Imperial navy

Honorary Members:
Paternoval Envoy of the Navigator
Master of the Astronomican
Chancellor of the Estate Imperium

Sector Governors/Lords: Divisions of the Segmen'tares the Sector Governors govern a Sector which is a 200 Light year cube of space. They typically carry the title, "Lord" so Governor Calixis would be known as Lord Calixis.

Sub-Sector: Divisions of a Sector that vary in terms of size. They are Governed by Imperial Prefects who answer to their Sector Overlords.

System A system is the smallest Governing aspect used by the Imperium. It is literally a single star-system controlled by a Planetary Governor or Imperial Commander if necassary. Systems typically vary in how many worlds and what kind, these clearly show how varied the Empire is.

Technology focus: Usage of Seradite, Psionic Engineering, A.I., Androidal, Plasma based.
Seradite:
Seradite is a primary resource native to the Throneworld of Imperia and was brought with Emperians in there colonization of the stars. It grows naturally and faster when near Emperians as Emperians may psychically manipulate its properties. Seradite produces and invisible field that disrupts electronics of all sorts and even certain radio frequencies. However it is key in Emperian technology as it powers ships and communications. It is true to the quote being, "Only Emperians can unlock this amazing substances mythic capabilities"-Obsidia Olden. Obsidia was one of the excemptions besides a world brought int othe Emperian were a non-emperian may reside in the Empires bounderies.

Military Doctrine: Capital Ships supported by Fighter/Bomber Screens.
Foreign policy:Imperialistic/Expansionist
Technological Age: Roughly 3,000 years or so, Type 3 Civilization.
FTL Age: (Canon wise Millennia but for FAR probably only 500 years or so)
FTL type: Slipspace (Dimensional)
Military information: Imperial Navy has 5,000 Vessels at standing fleet (2,000 are actually System Patrol Boats and not really meant to do any hard fighting. The Emperian Guard (Also known as Imperial Guard or Imperial Army) has 55 Million Personnel at peace time capacity (2/3 of which are Planetary Defence Forces, Resevists etc). Otherwise the Legions (From 50,000 to 100,000 warriors) make up the Emperors Elite fighting forces. There are 21 Legions and some smaller Chapters (1,000 warriors) that defend a particular area.

Population: 200 Billion (Emperian population is 40 Billion) That is including al subjects of the Imeprial Throne.
Founding species: Emperian
Other Species:Human, Aetherian, Alerian, Kaprician, Ryla'thian.
Sphere of Influence size: Large
Major Civilian industries/services: Inter-planetary commcerce (inter system), Manufacturing, Craftship.
Society and Cultural information: Highly Traditionalist (atleast on Emperian side of things) and very rigid when it comes to social class (for the hard liners anyways). Imperial society although allowing for civilians to experiance a high quality of life and still have many freedoms. Can if need be, become rather rigid in the division between Emperian and Non-Emperian. Emperians consider themselves to be a Master Race of sorts (fueled by being in comparison to other races in the Empire as being actually physically and in many cases mentally more powerful). This Superiority idea is one of the founding bricks of the Empire.

Strip mining

Strip mining everywhere

Also gives me an excuse to show up to random RPs ;)

Remind me to sign an agreement to send lads along with your ships, to get rid of the planets after you're done stripping all the miners.....

Erm, wait, that came out wrong.

I personally believe in being an interfering busybody; ICly the Chosen are very much individualistic, and feel they have the right to stick their noses everywhere. OOCly I do it all for the lulz.
TG if you have questions about RP. If I don't know the answer, I know someone who does.

You would need to find the flotilla first, and I don't think the Chosen would want to see naked bipedal anthropods

Would the flotilla be willing to sell some of their degenerates/criminals/sickly to the Niteris for credits, materials, fuel, and ships?

Emperium
You know type three civilizations(those with a high tech ages and FTL ages) cant do any expanding. It sound like your tech bases is 40k with chapters and guardsmen. Oh an welcome back where have you been.

Actually Emperium I have an idea since you are one of those type 3 nations and gtech is one of those type 3 nation you two would be a good match. And seeing as you have multiple sectors defined as 200 Ly cubed space that big open spot Gtech harvest/grows flowmetal in would be perfect for holding your empire.

Because of the Time Zone problems, every time I go to sleep and am in school (in the morning), this thread jumps forward 10 pages. O_O

But I'm still around, don't worry.
