Piraulke got back below the hatch, and into his position as gunner. Any minute now they would run into the enemy for the first time, his tank was the lead tank, and they would be the first Auskralian tank to participate in combat in a foreign country, ever. Just then, his commander designated multiple targets about a mile away. Enemy vehicles, along with some buildings, which probably had some infantry hiding amongst the buildings. Piraulke locked on to what was identified to be an enemy main battle tank in the distance. The formation had not yet been cleared to fire, but Piraulke's thumb was itching just a few grams of downwards pressure and get one threat to his existence out of the way. Finally, they were cleared to fire, and Piraulke launched a missile from the ATGM launcher mounted to the side of the turret. Suddenly, a flash from the enemy lines hit an adjacent tank. The tank was damaged, but continued. The formation was now in range to fire their main 140mm guns and their coaxial 50mm guns. All across the formation tanks opened up with cannon fire, and IFVs launched missiles and fired their 50mm autocannons. Any visual identification that the enemy was being destroyed was hidden by the flames of the firing. There was no time to watch tank shells fly to their targets. It was one to the next, simple as that. The radio and communications was alive not only with conversations from this battle, but from battles taking place all over this land. Piraulke caught "approaching enemy left flank, 2100 meters, engaging" from the radio. Good! Other armored elements had arrived to flank the enemy. Jets flew over and dropped ordnance. As the fight raged on, all Piraulke could hope for was to get through this alive.
Missile strikes continued today against enemy forces, but this time ground-attack aircraft staged attacks on convoys.
