Andrew hated the sentry duty night shift; he had always been a “day person”, so to speak. His Sergeant knew this, and, whenever he could, made sure that Andrew had to do it. There were always two people doing the shift at each entrance, and while they were both supposed to stay awake at all times, they usually took it in turns to sleep. Andrew looked at his watch; in just over twenty minutes it was his turn to sleep. He opened a packet of unmarked machine-made cigarillos and pulled one out. He fumbled for his lighter, but it was no-where to be found, so he looked through a pile of old newspapers for something else he could use to light it, eventually finding a mouldy old box of matches. After several failed attempts at striking them, he managed to get a flame going, and lit the cigarillo, inhaling deeply. Satisfied, he opened yesterdays newspaper and sat back. Just as he was getting into an article about the most recent boxing match, he saw, much to his annoyance, the headlights of a truck approaching. He sighed wearily as he saw the truck speeding towards the entrance. Before he knew what had happened, the driver had rolled down the window, pulled out a suppressed pistol and placed a bullet right between Andrew's eyes, before killing the other sleeping sentry in a similar manner, and quietly breaking open the barrier. Two more trucks immediately came in, and out of them came about fifty men, all holding guns, explosives or detonators. Led by the driver of the first truck, they briskly moved around the building, each person knowing exactly what their task was. Bartoškytova was named after Alexander Bartoškytov, the previous Supreme Autocrat; despite being named after such an important person, however, it was a relatively small, unimportant facility, and it was not expected to be attacked. Some of the soldiers in the barracks were woken by the noise, and went to check what was happening; they were greeted by a hail of bullets. Most, however, remained blissfully unaware that they were about to be blown to smithereens. The largest explosive charge was placed close to the main munitions store, with several smaller ones placed at other key locations. As soon as the last fuse was set, the men began to leave the building, getting out of the blast radius just before the first charge went off.
Yesterday, in the early hours of the morning, a group of heavily-armed terrorists attacked a Yanintovian Army Barracks in the remote village of Havingard, in the northern Severnyprov Province. In the co-ordinated attack, they used powerful explosives to destroy the building, killing all of the five hundred soldiers stationed there.
The separatist group FTT, which campaigned violently for the secession of an independent "Republic of Peytaghia" in the early 2000s and was hithero thought to be inactive, has claimed responsibility for the attack, and a spokesperson for the group has declared that many more will follow until their demands are met.
Earlier today, an official statement from the Office of the Autocrat said that the FTT will not be negotiated with and that heavy force will be used to quash any further attempts at rebellion. As of yet, whether or not they were supported by any foreign organisations is not known, as is the current strength of the group.
