Dolorem had been a very nationalistic country, sporting it's national colours of blue and yellow at nay possible occasion, and citizens standing in a mix of fear, adoration and whatever they had had forced into them since their birth, for the High Overlord.
Dolorem had always remained fairly isolated, and as such little effects could be seen from places such as the renaissance, with Dolorem remaining, albeit to the opinion of other nations, in it's "ignorant ways." The only real influences that would breach the isolationist barriers, set out by it's glorious creator the Overlord, would be war, and eventually the industrial revolution, to which Dolorem partook in immensely, with the effects upon it's environment still being seen, very evidently today, with one such example being the smog clouds hanging over head.
The Overlord's brother (On the right) making an agreement with the Isolatonian ambassador, over terms for an alliance.
However, with such a nation, it seems fairly obvious, that when finally tensions rose, leading to the great war, that with it's isolated outlook, and history of military success over disputes closer to it, especially the wars over border with P.I, then it seems obvious that an overly zealous attitude would be seen.
They agreed with Isolatonia to join, as a similar minded nation, and would gain large proportions of land, all over the world.
The war proceded, and all was going well, until the combined efforts of the opposition were bale to breach a major supply lane, nearly halting communication to fronts in areas such as Midrasia and Engortia.
Eventually, with lack of supplies and orders reaching troops, the opposition forced their way forward, until a major battle at the end of the war,the siege of Lortherium took place. At first it seemed like Dolorem could hold, and starve the enemies out, until an insurgent was able to open the barricades for the attackers, and a ferocious 3 day battle took place, with a combined effort of the remaining military, and the citizens fighting with bottles, table legs, anything they could find. The Overlord himself event took part, until eventually the centre of town was taken, and the Dolorem flag was burnt down. Eventually, the resistance halted at the show of the burning symbol, until it was quelled entirely.
The siege of Lortherium
After which, the Overlord was sent into exile for his part in the war, and a democratic government was installed, the first in Dolorem. With the economy in utter ruin from the war, and it's Capital city in complete ruin, it is hard to tell where the nation will go next.
Update:
Recently, with the instability of the newly installed democratic government, numerous parties have attempted to seize the potential for power. Following suite with the rest of Asura, communist uprisings were happening, with several rather violent encounters being seen in the centre of the capital city of Lortherium. Rebuilding has commenced, and so far the town hall has been reconstructed fully, along with some of the more historic buildings, and others important for infrastructure, such as the bank. The Overlord's tower has been left a smoldering ruin, as a reminder of the evils of war, and of the evils of the Overlord. With national pride low, and borders open, foreign parties are spreading over Dolorem, and are acting hostile, speaking out against Dolorem's history, and in the current situation, not many are feeling at all ready to speak out.
Foreign communists have taken the lower quarter of Dolorem, and are spreading, will they be able to take over?
Edit: Everybody, you're acting like it's 1938, you have nearly all the time in the world, use it, and create a good backstory for the rise and falls of powers.
