The Conglomerate [MT, PMT, Accepting Applications]

Postby New Azura » Sat Oct 27, 2012 12:31 pm

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to kill, and a time to heal.

The Conglomerate IRC: #CongLegion | The Roster | The Mission | The Pathogenic Legion [FT]

The First PrincipleSovereignty of the State
The member-states of the Conglomerate retain their autonomy while apart of the whole. No member-state has the authority or the privilege of subjugating or extorting support out of another without the expressed consent of the submissive state. Every member-state, regardless of their past history with the Conglomerate or their date of admission shall have all rights and privileges vested unto them privily. Every member-state of the Conglomerate retains an equal say in all decisions of policy and principle that are made by the body. Such privilege will extend to any member of the Conglomerate for as long as the state exists.

The Second PrincipleThe Fraternal Order
The Conglomerate is not just an organizational alliance, inasmuch as normal alliances create loose bonds of camaraderie that can be narrowly exploited or circumvented altogether. The Conglomerate is a fraternal order, forged through the resolute purpose of each sovereign member-state to take by force that which is inalienably granted to this entity; namely, all power and authority to govern the interests of man in accordance to our will. The Conglomerate enjoys a communal atmosphere, with each member-state accorded the respect of a brother, or sister at arms. Each and every nation is given the same respect as any other member-state.

The Third PrincipleThe Resolving of Conflicts
Within the confines of any familiar entity, conflict shall arise. With the intermixing of various cultural, economic and political ideologies into the greater sum of our hegemony, conflict may be engendered through miscommunication of a varying in-character and out-of-character nature. All conflicts between two sovereign member-states of the Conglomerate is to be handled privately between the relevant parties without intervention by the Conglomerate unless national interests (in-character or out) are threatened without permission. Such a conflict shall be expediently solved through the adjudication of the active member-states.

The Fourth PrincipleEngaging the Enemy
The Conglomerate is not designed to exist only as a military alliance of states; yet the defense of the Conglomerate and its member-states exists as a token responsibility of all who would partake of these hallowed institutions. All Conglomerate states shall be expected to lend materiel assistance to any fellow member-state, to the best of your ability to do so, be it war materials or combat personnel. A small cadre of Conglomerate states equaling no more than one less of half the membership may preemptively engage in a military conflict with others, but a Conglomerate-wide majority vote is required for full mobilization.

The Fifth PrincipleResponsibilities of the Brethren
A member-state to the Conglomerate has both the privilege and responsibility of acceptance within the fraternal order. It is with a firm hand that all Conglomerate states must act, to propagate the mission of this entity. All member-states are expected to participate in this entity's thread and/or its regional IRC, #CongLegion. Further, all member-states are expected to demonstrate a willingness to participate in threads sponsored by or created by fellow Conglomerate nations, and should observe the traditional custom of demonstrating camaraderie and respect to fellow members under the guise of the Code of Bro that once defined us.

The Sixth PrincipleDesignating a Role
Unlike our predecessor, the resurrected Conglomerate shall not differentiate between nations desirous of diplomatic or military titles; all member-states possess the ability and the leeway to craft for themselves a unique and integral role within the confines of this entity. All member-states, instead of being so-labeled in a pre-cast role, shall provide for posterity the roles that they themselves wish to take, whether those roles extend into the economic, diplomatic, or military realm. Such records shall be kept visible unto all who would seek to challenge the hegemony kept sovereign and held sacrosanct by the totality of our membership.

The Seventh PrincipleAmending the Principles
Every member-state of the Conglomerate is granted an equal and authoritative voice which can be utilized in this thread or in our chat room. Every member of the Conglomerate retains the right and the privilege to propose changes to our governing principles, to restrict or grant admission to prospective invitees, to ban or eject member-states found not to conform to the expectations levied against all member-states, and to vote for a mobilization of war against an enemy presence that threatens the whole of the order. No member-state admitted herein shall have their voice taken away unless such a vote is held due to that state's conduct.

The Eighth PrincipleKeeping a Presence
The activity of the member-states who give the Conglomerate the power to cast its hegemony over the greater community of nations is the lifeblood of this brotherhood. The fraternal order which we seek to create is only as strong as its weakest links. Inasmuch as we desire a perfect, more ubiquitous entity than those of the past, all member-states must endeavor to remain active in the Conglomerate thread or its IRC. After more than thirty-days of inactivity, member-states may be purged from our ranks. Member-states who will experience a prolonged absence must publicly post their intention to avoid any threat of dismissal.

The Ninth PrincipleJoining the Conglomerate
Member-states of the Conglomerate are not chosen lightly, nor wantonly. Candidates to partake of this fraternal order represent a complete package of exemplary writing ability, proven ability to bond with other members, and a desire to propagate the ethos and the aesthetic image that the Conglomerate inspires. As such, only the most worthy of candidates will even find themselves invited to join the hallowed ranks of this institution, for only by the invitation of an active Conglomerate member may a state even gain consideration. Our membership shall vote on prospective applicants, with a simple majority vote earning admission.

The Tenth PrincipleThe Resurrection of the Conglomerate
The resurrected Conglomerate is a spiritual successor and heir to the void created by the untimely demise of the original Conglomerate. This entity was created both as a successor to that esteemed tradition within our community, and as an homage to a great and exciting time in this game. Though many of the original faces no longer dwell here, we revive this organization as a tribute to our friends who helped create one of the most endearing, popular, and feared roleplaying groups in the history of NationStates. In time, it is our hope that our resurrected Conglomerate shall be remembered in fondness to its great forerunner.

Application for Admission to the Conglomerate
Interested nations that wish to join the Conglomerate may fill out and submit this application at their leisure. Each application accepted for review by the Conglomerate shall be open to discussion for one week, or seven real life days. Active members of the Conglomerate will have the opportunity to discuss and lodge their vote either in acceptance or rejection of the application. There is no minimum baseline for required votes to gain admission beyond a simple majority of those nations who participate in the application review by lodging their votes. After seven days, a tally of the votes received shall be conducted to determine if the applicant reaches the number of aye votes needed to gain admission. Rejected applications may be resubmitted once every thirty days.

The Purpose of the Resurrected Conglomerate

Postby New Azura » Sat Oct 27, 2012 12:33 pm

Image Image
Image

The mere mention of the Conglomerate inspires a host of reactions, both from veteran roleplayers and new players in the community. For those who were privy to witness the Conglomerate at the height of its power and prestige, players bore witness to one of the most powerful political entities in the game's history. Today, the organization lingers as a mythologized entity that existed in the 'golden age' of roleplaying, when some of the game's best and most adept writers created an incredible creative universe that intrigued countless others to challenge themselves as writers. Extending beyond the common trope of a 'flash in the pan' military alliance, the Conglomerate existed not only as an alliance, but as a superstate, and a fraternal order that instilled in its membership a friendship and respect that lasts to this day, more than a year after its final post was logged. For the select few who were lucky enough to be apart of that exclusive club, it was among the best of our time in NationStates, and remains a privilege to this day, having come into contact with such an eclectic—and awesome—group of people who shared in the experience that we all created together. More than an alliance, the Conglomerate was a true brotherhood that cared deeply for one another.

Unless you were apart of the Conglomerate, one could not understand how important the 'Code of Bro' was to the survival of the group. We were not just acquaintances in the Conglomerate—we were friends who helped and cared for one another. To this day, the IRC room #NSSanctuary survives as an almost-communal meeting place for various roleplayers looking to discuss a variety of topics. Some of the Conglomerate's actions both ICly and OOCly have become nigh-legendary in the greater circles of our game, and so many nations and regions were affected by its presence. To have existed for such a short time, the Conglomerate left an indelible mark on the fabric of our roleplaying community. Without speaking with undue hubris or self-aggrandizing promotion, the Conglomerate exists to this day as the measuring stick for the many new alliances which seek to emulate its scope and its influence. Throughout its history, some very talented and respected names came through the ranks, etching their mark on the community—nations who were well-loved and respected across a variety of tech levels, like Amazonian Beasts, Saurea, Ozymos, and Jenrak. Existing in the vacuum of International Incidents, the Conglomerate at its peak held as much power and sway as many of the great roleplaying regions of the past. And those states who were privileged to be apart of the superstate carry with them the legacy of their time in the Conglomerate, writing great roleplays for a wider audience than would have been possible before.

The original Conglomerate is no more; like many of the great institutions of our roleplaying community, it succumbed to the departures of its membership and the general decline wrought by the collapse of the great roleplaying regions of the last decade. Many faces traditionally associated with the Conglomerate have gone on to other things in life, but some are still here. Yet while the memories of those glorious times fade with age, the specter of the Conglomerate and its lasting legacy linger with all who was apart of it. Today, faces from yesterday have come together with some of the most well-known and respected roleplayers to create a new legacy, building upon the foundation of our forerunner while crafting a unique and worthwhile identity all our own. We could never replace, nor do we seek to replace the original Conglomerate. It's time, however special, has come and gone. Yet the spirit that kept the Conglomerate together for that incredible era of roleplaying survives still, and will not pass so long as a roleplayer from those heady days keeps it alive. We shall not forget those that came before, nor do we wish to replace the memory of what was. Indeed, we don't want people to forget the original Conglomerate—all we hope is that people shall one day remember us. As long as we are remembered, it's enough. And so come the days of what is affectionately known once more as...

The days of King Cong. Long live the Conglomerate.

So... ya. Is there any specific purpose we're going after here? If the goal is to restore Pax Conglomerate, there are a few alliances for us to take our pick from that we can engage.

There is a purpose, though I'd prefer to get everyone together in the IRC on a specific date to go over some OOC things first. Did you have anything in mind specifically?

I can think of a few alliances we could target. I'm having some problems with the IRC, btw.

EDIT: Never mind, fixed.

So can I—one of them is called the Anti-Communism Alliance. They're a reactionary force against the various left-leaning ideologies that crop up from time to time, but as with most groups they are a bit reckless in the implementation of the virtues that they purport to stand for. Frankly, I don't think that we should consider them a threat; more so, I think we should keep an eye on them for the time being, and see how they develop. From a purely materialistic standpoint, the ACA could not really compete with the manpower and resources at our disposal. Still, it's a group to keep an eye own. I've laid the groundwork for opening up this avenue for us should we wish as a group to pursue it.

Groundwork?

(Speaking purely OOC of course.)

So obviously, I'm no good to you as a member--but, and I hope I'm not stepping out of bounds for you here--I might be able to offer Osaea as an opportunity for the Conglomerate to flex its muscles--~90 million people, obviously leftist, practically no foreign influence and laughable military establishment. It might be a good target for some subtle "arm-twisting", if that's what you're looking into.

If not, disregard this post. :)

(OOC: I wasn't sure if there was interest, but let's assume there is...

Osaea is played basically as it appears--a smallish post-revolutionary republic that is largely disarmed due to financial constraints and a generally anti-military ruling political coalition. Compulsory service has been abolished, and most military forces have been downgraded in alert status and much hardware has been temporary stored until the military's role can be properly reexamined. Osaea engages extensively in trade, courts foreign investment and appears as a very stable market. However, the ruling coalition, the Union of Left Forces, controls the strategic export of, among other things, uranium ore.

While a large militarized power could probably sweep through the Osaean Republic in a short period of time, what seems more appropriate would be arm-twisting over specific provisions of Osaea's trade laws--which are extremely extensive, very pervasive, and rigidly enforced to the delight of the electorate. There also exists Osaea's domestic politics--since the recent economic recovery (the Osaean economy almost doubled in size in the last few years, but only after a sharp downturn brought on from the ballot box), so long as things remain positive, the "Pan-Reds" will likely continue to enjoy majorities in parliament and control over the Council of Ministers. Some people might want to see the "Pan-Whites" sweep majorities in the next elections, however.

Depending on the conglomerate's ideological stance or particular economic goals, relatively prosperous, internationally neutral and largely unarmed Osaea might make a very useful testing ground to see if those techniques are viable with other, more dangerous nations.

But, hey, its your conglomerate after all.)

Well, I can't speak for New Azura/Cong. but I personally can say I'd be interested in participating. My country is a confederation of several entities, each with its own policies and ideological leanings, so I wouldn't take an ideological role, more of a pragmatic one. If someone else were to begin preparing an invasion, the more opportunistic forces within certain institutions of my country would probably jump on board as well.

Can you think of any reason why the Imperial Polyoncarchy of Aldarminia might be interested in attacking you? Aldarminian ruling ideologies are: Libertarianism, Capitalism, Aldaricism(Religion), and Imperialism.

((OOC: Not really. Osaea's greatest defense is the good relations it enjoys with major leftist powerhouse nations who are massive, and utilitarian, enough to maintain large standing armies and supply Osaea with its basic weapons--T-80U tanks, BMP-2 fighting vehicles, rifles, missiles, etc. Osaea has a tiny aviation service that's part of its much more useful air defense forces, and no nuclear arms despite extensive civilian power stations and uranium refinement. It's a part of the Union of Socialist Nations, for example, though that's more of an economic and cultural pact than a defense one.

It's why I didn't immediately suggest a war. All the parties in Aured are extremely wary of upsetting other countries, and foreign nationals are even more protected than the citizenry for that reason, unlike in other nations. The biggest "Pan-Red" party is the Socialist Party of the Osean Republic (SPOR), which is the descendant of the Osaean revolutionary parties (communistic, socialistic, anarchistic) who overthrew the old republic decades ago and established the new state. They're avowedly atheistic and extremely suspicion of Randian objectivism--they're okay with capitalism, as it has made the country well off, and is on a short leash--but other than that, they don't feel very passionately on most issues. They certainly aren't in a position to censor objectivist or libertarian thought--indeed, Osaean printing presses produce copies of The Fountainhead alongside Capital for export and internal use. There is an Osaean (Randian) Objectivist Party, but its greatest accomplishment was getting registered in Amarazan Province--it's yet to win a a seat in parliament or have a cabinet member, due to its inability to compromise with the other rightist parties. Most people don't even know about it.

Osaea also has no anti-monarchical stance, though the original long-dead revolutionaries cut their teeth on fighting the Russian Monarchists almost a century ago. It condemns imperialism, but is so wary of upsetting nations its objections are carefully worded and largely ineffectual moral stances. It's a pretty harmless country, which is why trade sanctions came to mind.))
