World war 1 in real started for many reasons. Japans lack of oil and conquest of Asian Territory. Germany's hatred for outsiders of Europe and countries that put them in debt. Russia's control of all of Europe. I don't remember why Italy started invading people, I think the same reason Russia did. The fact is, if your going to be the invader then the reason is completely up to you. If your going to be a defender, well the reason is obvious. The choice of conquest is how your country is ran and the greed of things they want, like territory, resources, or just because you have a superior army and want to show the world your superior strength.

World War One started because of the archduke's assassination, bro (or, at least, that was the push over the cliff). What you're thinking of is World War Two. Germany was put in debt because of the first world war. Russia was having a revolution, so no control of Europe. Japan started their conquests in 1937, I believe, with the Sino-Japanese War (or the second one, I don't really remember). Italy didn't invade anything in WWI, but rather, invaded Albania and North Africa in WWII.
So...

Yeah. And then, you know, the regular countries that weren't imperialistic. Like, for example, the UK and France...
