Ishmael swore as the heavy rounds of the enemy siege mortars crashed about him. The large stones were best made for crushing stone walls and towns, but on the occasion when one landed in the trenches of the Ottoman forces it could absolutely destroy a man or two. Not devastating, but more than annoying. He rammed his rod home, then took the firing step again. Before him French troops boiled out of Marseille, less than the Ottoman forces in number by far, but together with the men of Italy they outnumbered the Caliph's forces 5:4. Or so the scuttlebutt said. All this flashed through the Moslem's mind in a moment, then the command drifted down the breeze. "Give- FIRE!" Gunsmoke filled the air in front of Ishmael as his line spat flame towards the onrushing French and Naplatean forces.

"Theres a hell of a lot of these bastards aren't there Iral?" He shouted at the wounded corporal who was fighting with a bandage across his ear next to him as he reloaded. "The Devil himself must have sent them to bother us!" yelled back the Christian man. "I don't believe in the Devil!" shouted Ishmael as he rammed his rod home again. Iral jumped up on the firing step with him as the fourth line of the defenders fired over their heads, musket in hand. "Well, maybe you should start! I know where he lives at any rate- Versailles!" screamed back the Slav.

"Give- FIRE!" came the command again, and once more the volley of lead balls tore into the enemy assault. They were closing, no doubt about it, for though the fire of the disciplined Ottoman troops cut them down in their hundreds, and though the massive batteries behind the lines tore gaps in their lines, the French and the Italians had more troops to throw on the fire. But, then again, so did the Caliph.

Rear of the Lines, Outside Marseille, French Riviera, France.
Emir Saladin Artan, 6th Arazif

"... yes Domitan, I have decided to commit the entirety of the 6th to the battle here." said Saladin to the commander of the 9th Arazif. "80,000 men and their attendant artillery. If we can destroy the enemy here we can run roughshod over southern France, and the men of Naples won't dare to stick their noses out of their peninsula again." Domitan nodded, seeing the logic in the gambit. "Our fleets have just brought over the final elements my Arazif from North Africa. We can hold the rest of our positions against any conceivable threat from Italy or the rest of the Frenchmen."

The two Emirs walked over to a map in the middle of the room in the command tent as functionaries ran around coordinating the defense of the Ottoman salient. "Our scouts report enemy cavalry movements on both flanks- here, and here." said Saladin. "We are well provisioned with both powder and shot, thanks to the hard work of Fleet Commander Armal's men, if we need to close the salient and I have men finishing up our rear trenchlines." A chuckle erupted from Domitan's throat. "It would be madness for them to attempt to surround you. Why, they'd be scattered and defeated peacemeal!" Saladin shared the cosmic joke. "Pray that they try to. Pray Domitan." The other general smiled. "I will my friend, but now I must return to my troops before the enemy horse cuts me off. Have heart my friend. The Caliph has a plan to put paid to the Italians in jig time."

With that the general of the resplendent 9th rode quickly to the south with his escort, back to occupied France and his men.

The King of Naples decided to send a ambush attack on north Africa which was controlled by the Ottomans.

300 ships, all of them small, stealthy ones, perfect for ambush, set off from Sicily and traveled to Tunisia to attack. They landed on the shores where there were a lot of shrubs, so they couldn't be seen. Then, they fired with tons of guns and mortars, pounding the Ottomans and killing mercilessly.

Meanwhile...
The King ordered 78,000 more men to fight in France and kill the Ottomans, and they resorted to guerrilla tactics, hiding everywhere, and killing the Ottomans all the time.

OOC: Each ship had 25 men. And the 78,000 and 50,000 and other troops combined would probably defeat the Ottomans, not to mention the guerrilla tactics...

After greenland had been successfully taken over, 100,000 of the 120,000 Swedes began their long return to Copenhagen, Denmark.

Vacant Beach in North Africa

The Italian forces stormed ashore from their little boats, firing howitzers, cannons, mortars and bombs of all shapes and sizes.

Silence greeted them. Luckily for them the entirety of the North African coast couldn't be held by the Ottoman Empire's forces, and so their weapons fell harmlessly on the sand.

Seventy miles away at the nearest Ottoman outpost the Commander has just emerged from his bath, and swats a fly with a horsehair whisk. The cacophonous bombardment is not even audible to the human ear at this distance, and the armada of small ships has gone completely unnoticed.

South of Marseille, France
As the men of Naples fell back from direct combat, seeking to engage the Ottoman forces in guerilla warfare, the Caliph's men held their ground and opened a supply line to the south. With the new rush of shot and cannonballs they bombard the retreating enemy and his new reinforcements fiercely, not stirring from their fortified lines south of the city.

Sea off the Coast of Venice, Naples
A large fleet of Ottoman warships approaches from the high seas.

Naple's men in France then suddenly ambushed the Ottomans from behind, shooting all the soldiers they could, and bombarding the Ottomans with mortar shells.

Meanwhile...
In Venice, The Navy of Naples noticed the Ottomans immediately, and prepared for 700 ships, 60 of them big, 400 of them medium, and the rest small ships set out to remove the Ottoman threat, and reinforcements of 100 also came to fight off the Ottomans.

Meanwhile, again...
The Naples commander in North Africa ordered the men to stop firing, and advance deep into Ottoman territory, hiding everywhere in shrubs, bushes, and trees to stay hidden.

The Swedish fleet was welcomed back in celebration. Everybody was happy about the victory of Greenland. Even the king was in Copenhagen to welcome back the fleet, and to discuss the next place that would belong to the Kingdom of Sweden.

The King had received word that the Ottomans were losing the war against France and Naples. Plus, the empire was fighting on two fronts. He thought about the idea of opening a third front, in Poland. With the Ottomans already concentrated in France and a weird land called North Africa, they surely couldn't last long in Poland.

Marseille, France

The Ottoman forces crush the Italian forces between their two armies, the weight of 120,000 men and all their artillery bearing down on the foolish men of Naples who had though to take the Caliph's men by surprise. One could not simply conceal the movement of seventy thousand soldiers in battle uniform, and their inept general had sent his army to be crushed between the hammer and anvil. Forces from the southern Ottoman force began moving up both sides of the Italian force, hoping to entrap them and destroy the men of Naples in detail.

In the north of the Caliph's lines forty thousand men of the northern army stood firm against the French onslaught, though they took grievous casualties in order to hold the line. Only thirty seven thousands stood at the end of the hour, but assuredly the Francois had taken more casualties assaulting the fortified positions.

Coast off of Venice

The Ottoman's invasion fleet, composed of a third of the Caliphs Mediterranian forces, slammed into the Venitan defenders like a hurricane wind off of the Atlantic. Smaller landing barges rushed towards the shoreline to land their troops while nine dozen war galleys dueled the Italian vessels. Some were hit by cannon fire, and already several were sinking, but their brass bows sought the hulks of enemy ships to slay them, and answering blasts of steel balks were flung from their guns.

North African Desert

A small patrol of Ottoman soldiers, three dozen strong, observes the advancing Italian forces. Though the Italians try to conceal their movements they are not men of the desert, and are spotted from a fair distance. The patrol makes for a nearby outpost to warn their commander.

We accept your offer of an alliance, and hope such military and political cooperation betwixt our two Powers shall herald great things to come. I confess surprise upon hearing my possessions in the north of the continent of Africa, for my commanders assure me it is still firmly under the Empire's control, though there has recently been a small assault by the forces of the men of Naples. Regardless, together we shall crush the paltry Italians, and I shall great you in victory in Rome.

North Africa is still mine, though Naples has recently landed 7500 troops there.

Naple's men in France almost got killed by the Ottomans, but reinforcements still came.
Naples reinforcements came barging through the Ottomans, with 200,000 coming, almost half of Naples reserves.

Meanwhile...
In North Africa, the commander knew they were being watched somehow, as they already were deep in Ottoman territory, so he ordered all the men to hide and do a surprise attack to destroy the Ottomans. Reinforcements of 400 more ships also came, carrying 50 men on each ship.

In Venice, 100,000 soldiers waited for the Ottomans, stacking up their weapons and fortifying the city so heavily, that the strongest shells couldn't pass through.

With a population of 32 million now, the Hungo-Austrian Empire has an army of around 300,000. 70,000 of these were formed into the Hadsereg Olaszország or Armee in Italien. This army was commanded by General Botond Pinter, brother to King Pinter of Hungary. The army, supported by dozens of artillery pieces and around 3,000 cavalry, has crossed the Austrian-Naples border in northern Italy, and is preparing to march on Milan.

"My Lord!" yelled the runner to the Emir. "More Italian troops have opened up the eastern salient and are pouring into the pocket of their trapped brothers. My commander tells you that it is likely they number in the hundreds of thousands. All Italy must be empty and marching towards us!" He stopped, panting for breath. The Emir stared at his charts, eyes downcast. The situation was indeed grim.

He turned to his Roh-Amirs. "We must pull back to a unified defensive position if we hope to maintain our position on French soil. The Caliph has promised that the pressure upon our forces will be relieved soon, but until then he bids me hold our conquests of the vile Francois." As one the men saluted, and the Emir outlined his plan.

The western flank of the men of Naples was stiffened, holding their troops away from that area at great cost to both the attacker and the Ottomans, and through that salient poured the men of the Northern Army. Forty thousand men and their supplies passed in the first three hours, leaving only forty thousands to hold the old defenses against the ravening hordes. These men were thrown back into the line in the south, their bullets and shells assailing the Italians south flank, and the defensive positions behind them were deepened and strengthened as the Caliph's men sought to sell their lives dearly, outnumbered three to one as they were.

Off the coast of the North African Napoletean Landings, Near Jijel, Tuniska Province, Ottoman Empire

A flotilla of forty heavy Ottoman dromons came across the landing barges of the Italians, and swiftly fell to the assault, firing cannon and shoot hither and thither in a frenzy, seeking to drown as many of the Italian soldiers as possible before they could reach land. The Caliph was informed of the engagement, and set in motion his vast armies to contain the Napoletean threat.

Beaches NE and S of Venice, Naples

The men of the Ottoman Empire stormed ashore from the landing barges on either side of the city in their hundreds, searching for opposition and preparing for a drive on the city itself. Behind them more barges slipped through the naval battlefield bearing yet more men as the aquatic engagement raged on.

In France, More and more troops came in, as Naples kept churning out more and more soldiers, and the tide turned when more of Naples soldiers arrived.

Meanwhile...
In Venice, 50,000 soldiers guarded the coastline, shooting and destroying any Ottoman ships with hundreds of mortar shells.

Meanwhile, again...
In North Africa, more ships came, as the fleet was growing immensely in size, and killed off any thing which dare attack it.

Meanwhile..., and again...
90,000 soldiers met the Hungarian soldiers in Milan, and bombarded them mercilessly.

All of the Ottoman troops had been withdrawn from the northern fortifications, and now the a hundred and forty eight thousands of the Ottoman Empire stood resolute in their fortifications as the Napoletean forces crashes against the defenses like water against rock. Hundreds of artillery pieces formed a choir of mayhem, and the pall of gunsmoke over the battle grew steadily, until all the immediate land was covered in a vast cloud blotting out the sun and making the light of day fail. A gloomy twilight, as of a heavy storm, grew over the southern tip of France, and in it flashes of light flickered as fire was given to the endless Italian hordes. The butcher's bill would be a great one when the smoke cleared, but not only for the Caliph's men. Though thousands, tens of thousands, had already fallen in battle, the Ottoman's fought from entrenched positions, making the Italian forces pay for every foot taken with dozens liters of blood spilled. It was not a majestic battle, not a sporting battle. The Italian king spent his men's lives like the loose change of a noble, tossing their broken bodies against stone ramparts and merciless muskets as one throws chaff on a threshing floor.

Coast of Venice, Naples

A vicious hail of mortar balls, the stone weapons normally reserved for sieges, rained down on the Ottoman infantry as they waded ashore to the north and south of Venice, and dozens were crushed or maimed with each volley. The tide ran red as it became choked with corpses. But the Emir had prepared for this. A few Ottoman dromons broke through the Napoletean fleet and shelled the Italian guns with great aplomb and precision, moving quickly along the coast so as not to give the shore batteries time to find range. The infantry themselves rushed to the north and south of the Italian defenses, skirting the enemy's lines. Ten thousand men engaged the defenders on either side, and many thousands more marched off into the countryside, burning, always burning. The Caliph would make the Italians feel the pain of war, one way or another. The Empire was vast, vast beyond measure, and he would bleed his adversaries as white as any pure-blooded noble if need be.

Coast of Jijel, Ottoman Empire

The Ottoman fleet waded into the fray, unafraid of the outnumbered odds. The Italian vessels were small, carrying but a few dozen men each, and the large Arabic dromons would great havoc as they fought. Some, of course, paid the price of engaging a numerically superior fleet. Already nine of the great vessels burned as they drifted, gutted by enemy guns, but their shot and rams had already had a significant affect on the Italian landings.

On the shoreline, just out of reach of any seaborne guns, a tremendous Ottoman army attacked the scattered men of Naples from out of the east. A hundred thousands strong they marched, and the boom of their artillery in the assault shook the sand itself as if some forgotten god had made the desert his drum. The crash of guns filled the air, and as a mighty hammerblow the Caliph's men endeavored to throw the Italians back into the sea from whence they came.

In France, the men of Naples cheered wildly as they chased off the Ottomans into the desert where they belong, but they still shot the Ottomans who refused to surrender.

Meanwhile...
In Venice, although the Ottomans made an attempt to destroy the mortars and artillery, all of the artillery was deeply fortified, preventing any of them to be destroyed, although a few unlucky ones did. The 50,000 men clashed with the Ottomans, and 10,000 more came, as Naples was churning out ever more soldiers...

Meanwhile, again...
In North Africa, the fleet of Naples was growing ever more larger, even though the Ottomans destroyed some, much more came, as the numbers were rising through the roof.
