Alexander and his Squad would walk outside "Like earth? poor choice of words.. We humans are hostile little monstrosities.. if this is as you say, Whats to say the life here thinks THIS is an invasion and fires upon us? Anyway, Alpha and beta collect some samples.. with the air still around them and some of the dirt and water, we need these kept alive even after the Colonization changes the atmosphere these plants might hold medicinal properties."
EDIT: it is impossible for them to leave their Rifles at the ship without loosing their backpacks.
