A group of soldiers in some foreign hellhole of a country huddle around a small black and white tv in a tent. Marveling at the imminent rocket launch that will put one of their countrymen into space. They hear the final countdown to launch; three, two, one, liftoff. The rocket lifts off and the camera pans up as it slowly ascends into the heavens. A few seconds later the rocket explodes in a brilliant puff of smoke and flame and pieces of the doomed craft fall back into earth. The officer shuts of the tv set and declares, they did it. The ideological enemy sabotaged the rocket launch.

Plot
In the beginning of the RP our space programs will be in their infancy, failed attempts to put man made objects into orbit. Moving on to the all important moon shot, several attempts to land a man on the moon and return him safely to earth. Espionage will be involved, sabotage of each other's space programs, lying to the public. Aside from a background proxy war that you may or not be involved in, directly or indirectly, hostile actions would be committed by intelligence and defense agencies dedicated to secrecy. The space race is still of course the primary focus here. Massive retaliations and shows of force won't be taking center stage in this RP.
