Azadliq Civil War (MT, Closed)

Azadliq rebelled from the bureaucratic clutches of the United Kingdoms of Laster in 1749. The first Dictator was appointed, and the government has grown to be more and more oppressive ever since. The people tried rebelling in 1892; they were quelled within a year. The government has since only tightened its grip on the people: food stamps handed out weekly, a 70% tax rate, mandatory church attendance, tattooed bar-codes on every citizen, mandatory military service for all male citizens from ages 16-22.
This military service has trained the populace how to fight, when to fight, and what tactics they should use. The people of this nation have grown weary of their tyrannical, iron-fist government. A new age is dawning, the night ending, a sea of anger and torment sweeping across the land. The second civil war has begun.

CNN News Report: "Today the riots in Xezine, led by Mrs. Paula Harborson, spiraled out of control," the brunette reporter said into the mic, "and over-ran the Domestic Operations Officers and raided the military arsenal in the city. Rumor is that the high ranking military and political personnel are being evacuated from the city. This follows similar reports in Olum and Uzaq."
"Thank you, Karen" said a hispanic man sitting at a desk. "the Azadliq military is now preparing to invade the cities, starting with Xezine, and exterminate these rioters, whom the government has deemed rebels."

James Matheson paced back and forth in his office. "This is unacceptable," he stated, glaring at his generals. "How could you let a few heathens with baseball bats drive you out of three provinces!" He threw one of the generals to the floor, his anger glowing from his eyes.
"Kill them all. Declare lockdown in all three provinces and kill anyone who shows the slightest hesitation at following your orders."

*Loyalist forces have begun invading the province of Xezine.
*Rebel forces are scrambling to try and build some kind of defensive strategy.

"Sir," the man standing before the President's desk was young for a Major, "the report on the Azadliq situation."

The United Republic had been monitoring the situation in Azadliq for some time. President Sjorfreid set down his glass of cognac as he took the report out of the young officer's hand and began to read. The man assumed a position of attention.

Considering the way things had been going in Azadliq lately, Sjorfreid was not surprised by the report. He pause halfway through to glance up at the young man standing before his desk, "Thank you Major, you are dismissed."

"Sir, Thank you sir," the Army intelligence officer about-faced and marched out of the room.

"More of the same?" Admiral Reicher asked the president from his seat on the couch near the center of the room.

"Worse," Sjorfreid absentmindedly sipped from his glass, "things have escalated to all-out civil war at this point."

"It was inevitable all along.."

"True. Unfortunate, but true," Sjorfreid looked up from the report, at his old friend and closest advisor, "Tell me true now John, are we ready for this?"

"More than ready sir. Back when we first started looking at Azadliq, the Rangers and the Marines both jumped on the idea of mountain warfare. As usual both the Army and the Navy want a stranglehold on the next big thing. They've opened whole new specialized schools for it. And the Infantry Corps has been training for months. The DMI tells me that they've got new MBTs specially designed for mountainous combat, and customizations for the T-100 that enhance it's rugged terrain capabilities."

"Good good..." the President paused briefly, "I'm afraid we may need all of that and more. Get High Command together John, I want a plan of action ready by this evening."

General Tucker moved several dots on a touch-map of Azadliq inside the secret military facility under Voz. Several TV's were airing the recent news straight from Azadliq about the rebels. The General calmly picked the phone up and dialed the President's number. Far away, in the capital city of Kaporunm, the phone rang.

"Mr.President"

"Yes?"

"The situation broke out in Azadliq”

"I suspected as much, what's going on?"

"Their government in planning on slaughtering the people...by the thousands"

"Ugg...did our secret telegrams to the rebels go through undetected?"

"Yes sir, the rebels know we are helping"

"Great, and by the way, this would be the perfect time to test our new Titan Class Mega-Bomber

"Certainly sir, how many do you wish to send?"

"Send...hmmm...3, with medium bomb payloads. While we send them, we can ship off 50 destroyers, 2 aircraft carriers, 100 attack helicopters, 20 transport helicopters, 1 nuclear submarine, 10 submarines, 15,000 normal troops, 8,000 shock troopers, and 1,000 officers. Use 100 fighter jets and 15 normal bombers, use the 3 mega-bombers as super-units.(Dissant Machine Empire units)

"Yes sir, do you ant to send any elite Warmongers?"

"No, not unless the situation gets more serious, but do send 3 Splinter Missiles (use the military link) and 6 missile trucks to carry them"

No problem sir, the units are on their way, but where do you want them to arrive?"

"Send everything but the mega-bombers to Xezine to support the rebels. Send the mega-bombers to Serq and make them drop their entire payload on the region's capital. Afterwards, alert the rebels to move in along side our troops. This will get us closer to the loyalist capital"

"Immediately sir, thank you for your time"

The General then hung up and contacted the Admiral to load the troops and head for the rebel capital. Up top, in the city of Voz, the 3 massive bombers began to take flight and, at slightly faster than mach 1, began to fly to Serq to obliterate the loyalists.

The Blue Zone is the proposed Humanitarian Zone.

In the zone, no firing is allowed and it is souly there to provide aid to injured and lost citizens as well as injured military personalle. No body being treated would be allowed to have a weapon but may have upto 2 escorts (which will not be provided for), to take him/her to his/her designated 'Humanitarian Shelter' and then to leave the Humanitarian Zone unless they want to escort him/her back into their territory, which then they will be called in when he/she is ready to depart. This zone will be opened to any citizen, but only military personalle being carried by an ambulance or medics. I feel then that way the citizens of Azadliq will not suffer because of this war.

The vehicles moved through the pass, turning to and fro with the mountain walls. Sergeant Walls turned to the newest member of his squad, young 17 year old Private Allen.
"We're coming close to your hometown, aren't we?" the sergeant asked, turning toward the private.
"Y-yes sir." He said softly as he glanced down towards his rifle.
"Look, if they obey us they'll be just fine. We're here for the rebels, not to kill innocent civilians."
"The rebels are innocent."
The sergeant sighed and looked away. "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that, and go back to filling out your efficiency report." Gunshots began to sound at the front of the convoy, and many of the vehicles came to a stop. Soldiers began unloading and moving towards the sounds. "Grab your rifle," Walls said, "We have work to do."

James poured over various reports. The rebels weren't putting up much of a fight in the smaller towns, but Xezine would be a bloodbath when they reached it.
Two men entered his office: Neil Yusef, the commander of the CAC, and his secretary.
"This just came in from the Perinpanland government, sir. Another from the Saliun government." the secretary stated. James looked at the documents.
"Wipe out the rebel headquarters? That would be helpful, if they had one. As for Saliu... their men will be allowed to enter the zone, but at their own risk. We already have an offensive in place." He chuckled, scrawled a message, and gave it to his secretary. "Send this back to them. Neil, what did you need?"
"Sir, I want permission for the CAC to be the first to enter Xezine. It would minimize casualties for our forces, while maximizing rebel deaths."
"Im not comfortable using chemical weapons this early in the conflict. If it intensifies, Ill reconsider. Go."
"But sir-"
"Now."

Paula entered the office, an officers body lying dead in the middle of the floor. She grimaced, the sight of blood making her sick. "Matheson won't stop now. He won't stop until we're all dead."
A man dressed in a leather jacket with a beret spoke up, holding a shotgun in his hands. "That just means we'll need to kill him faster."
"Its not that simple, Frederick." She said, turning toward him, her heels clicking against the floor. "He's the most protected man in Azadliq. What we need is to arm the men we have here with us right now. Start handing out rifles, use the explosives to detonate the mountain passes. Get in contact with the cells in Olum and Uzaq, we need to organize ourselves. Send thanks to the Dissants, we'll need as much help as we can get."
Frederick nodded and headed for the communications offices.

Valisly: well, my chairman, the rebels control a sizable part of Azadliq, the government there is capitalist and control a great deal of uranium

Irwinovich: Yes we could influence the rebels into creating a more Marxist style government. And at the very least the grateful rebels would welcome us rebuilding their economy..or should i say let us manage there uranium.

In the Earth Council chamber in Vancouver, the Alliance Committee sat and discussed the matter of Azadliq, a nation currently involved in a civil war.

"Oh what do we care if another third world country is tearing itself apart? It's half the world away. Let them rot." Minister Terenc stated bluntly. He was infamous for his inaction. Unless of course there was profit.

"Minister Terenc, they are still part of Earth and therefore part of the Alliance. If i am not mistaken, there are more than a few of our soldiers who call Azadliq home. We must aid the government of Azadliq and restore order to the nation, perhaps not with military action, At least not yet. But send the government our weapons and vehicles, as they are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to industry. Send an order of 300,000 M-8 Avenger rifles and 4,000 Makos to be given to Azadliq. However, we will not enter the war ourselves unless needed or provoked. This meeting is adjourned."

The Titan bombers now flew 11 miles overhead of Serq and within a few minutes, would reach their target: The region capital of Serq. The captain of bomber 3 called out...

"Nearing target, drop in 15 minutes"

over a heavily encrypted line to the Dissant admiral. Each deadly bomber carried 4500 bombs, each with over 70 pounds of high explosives. This would most certainly level almost the entire town. Farther away, about 100 miles off the west coast of Xezine. The fleet, consisting of all the invading troops and weapons, moved at full speed towards the coast. The Admiral had strict orders to make sure the rebels win, and quick. Afterward, the Dissant Machine Empire would install a liberal government with a president. In addition, Dissant Machine Empire wouldn't mind getting their hands on some of the Uranium as well. But the most important goal was the free the people. Aboard the aircraft carrier Berracuse, 10 transport choppers took off, each carrying several crates full of munitions for the rebels. They headed for the coast and would arrive in about 25 minutes.

James sighed in frustration. Why on earth would some random nation want to send assistance to the rebels? The intelligence division had decoded several messages to the rebels, promising soldiers, equipment, and other such things. This war wasn't supposed to last any longer than a month, if that. Now it seemed it might drag on for quite a while.
Neil's recommendation came to mind. James leaned back in his chair, considering his options. An intelligence officer stepped into his office.
"Sir, several bombers have been spotted nearing Serq. They strongly resemble that of the Dissant's Titan bombers.
James's day just kept getting better. "Alert the forces in the region, and move all necessary functions to the underground facilities. Alert the forces in the other regions as well, tell them to be on the lookout for any unauthorized foreign movement."

Paula opened the laptop. After attempting several known passwords, she gave up; they weren't going to be able to access the government files from here.
Frederick entered the room, carrying several documents. "Paula, look here. Letters from some of the other governments." he handed them to her.
She read over them. " Are we sure these aren't traps?"
"We're fairly certain."
She sighed and handed them back. " We don't have a choice, we need to hope they arrive in time. Send messages back to them, accepting their help."
Paula turned back to the computer, still trying to break into it.

Allan dived behind cover, bullets tearing past him. These were his townspeople, his friends. Now they were trying to kill him.
The sergeant went to him. "Allan, we have to clear this building and flank them. Move!" Walls moved next to the door and opened it. Allan followed him in, rifle at the ready. A rebel was inside and turned toward them; Allan fired first. The rebel fell, dead. As Allan rushed to the window, he looked down at the man he'd just killed.
It was his uncle.

There are currently Alliance weapons and military materiel being delivered to your government to aid them in stopping your rebellion. These will be escorted by Alliance personnel, who are currently neutral in this conflict, and are merely seeing to the safe arrival of the materiel and to serve as medical personnel for the Government. As per Geneva, these are non-combatants in your war and should they come to harm by your forces, the Systems Alliance will intervene with military force.

The entire fleet stopped as close as it could to Xezine and monitored the area. The 10 transport helicopters heading towards the rebel capital region arrived, and landed at the nearest rebel military site. They then unloaded over 50 crates of guns, ammunition, and fuel for the rebels. The aircraft carriers huddled together near the region of Xezine and the destroyers made a defensive perimeter around them.

"I suggest we begin to whittle down the loyalist capital defenses, launch the first Spliter Missile immediately."

Suddenly, the large Splinter Missile launched out of the largest destroyer and began flying extremly fast towards the Loyalist capital. It was meant to rough up the surface capital defenses and create long-term damage effects on the loyalist military. Far away, the bombers ran overhead of their target...

"Drop in 3..2...1...mark"

The as soon as the bomber 3 captain finished the count, over 13,500 bombs dropped on the region capital. Each one exploding in a large radius, demolishing entire houses, and digging deep into the ground. Even some underground facilities were compromised. The bombers quickly turned aroud, ad began heading to the Xezine airport for refuel, reloading, and repair.
Bomber captain 3 got back on the heavily encrypted line and talked to the Admiral.

"It is done sir, from up here, the town looks compromised quite completely. I am bringing the bombers back to the Xezine airport"

"Good, we will move troops in immediately to take the region, alert the rebels of our advance."

The aircraft carriers spurred to life, releasing 10 more transport helicopters and temporarily refitted the bombers to transport troops. The 15 bombers and 10 more transport helicopters along with 50 fighter jets and 50 attack helicopters loaded over 8,000 soldiers, 500 officers and 4,000 shock troopers. At full speed, they headed towards Xezine and were to unload and begin advancing onto Qerb with the rebel forces.

We sent a large Splinter Missile at the loyalist capital to rough up their defensive positions. Our bombers will be arriving for reloading and refueling at your nearest airport, please expect their arrival. Thank you for your support and we are glad to free your people from fascist rule. Also, we suggest you use those new supplies and mobilize near the border of Qerb, we are going to advance into it along side you.

James listened to the report. Thousands dead, the city devastated. James grimaced in anger. How dare they strike at us? He called Yusef in. "Neil, I've reconsidered. Fire chemical weapons at Xezine- for maximum effect."
Neil grinned wickedly. "And the Dissants?"
"Ballistic missiles at their fleet, say... four. Use our missile-defense system against their Spliter, it wont effect the complex, but it will effect the city."

CNN News Report: "The situation here is developing as half the canyon passages to the city of Xezine have now been detonated. This is to slow the offensive by the current governme-" Several missiles reigned in behind the reporter, blue gas coming from the explosions. The screams were quickly followed with people falling to the ground, choking as they suffocated to death.

The fleet rapidly turned on their ZAMAZ anti-missile and anti-nuke system and quickly launched the EMP missiles at the incoming ballistic missiles. The EMP missiles quickly came within range of the ballistic missiles since they traveled at mach 15 and emitted small EMP bursts. About 20 burst surrounded the 4 ballistic missiles, hopefully disarming them.

"This is very close, our fleet might be compromised and..."

Just then, words of a chemical super-weapon hitting Xezine arrived at the fleet.

"I can't believe...PULL BACK THE REINFRCEMENTS NOW"

The bombers, helicopters, and fighters pulled back before landing, they immediately redirected their path. Their new destination: Serq itself. They planned on landing outside what was left of the defenses and proceed from there. The bombers planned on parachuting their troops then proceeding back to the unaffected Xerzine airport (The one closest to Serq was not near the city, so it probably not gassed). All the troops at the rural Xerzine airport put gas masks on before the gas inevitably rolled through the wind into the airport. The Titan bombers were done reloading, and once again took off to bomb Serq into nothing. The 10 transport helicopters that dropped off the supplies immediately turned back to the fleet before the gas rolled into their area. As a response to the use of deadly chemical weapons, General Tucker was immediately contacted.

"I can't believe this, disgusting.....Ship 10 more Splinter Missiles over...we are not allowing them to win."

Shortly afterward, the Splinter Missile near the surface defenses of the capital when they fired their defense system. As a response, the Splinter Missile detected the oncoming threat, and broke apart. Afterward, the many sub-missiles its chassis carried launched pre-maturly, but still buzzed towards the surface defenses. Soon, the 38 sub-missiles that it carried slammed into the ground. Each one was weak, so the damage could have varried a lot.(The splinter missile is somewhat like a cluster bomb, and splits apart. Please read the Splinter Missile factbook, it can be found here)

The gardens were vast, filled with statues of proletarian virtue that were wrapped in vines, flowers positioned to create the flag of the Party. It was a public park in the center of the city, south of the Presidium. Large and ornate, families would walk in there. Yet many of the joggers, sweepers and janitors could be Proletarian Guardsmen, the overarching and incredibly powerful police and military branch of the Party. Overall, the park was a symbol of the might of the Party. No wonder the President would try to speak about an interest of his, and by proxy, the Party's.

"Over here, General." A voice spoke in quiet yet deep, smoky tones. They were crisp and polite, yet the General knew if he didn't do as the President asked, he was a dead man. He went over, finding a man in a business suit sitting on a bench sandwiched neatly between two oaks. He was reading a copy of the state run newspaper, the Writers Pen.

"Yes sir? I received your memorandum on a developing situation in-"

"Azadaliq. Landlocked nation of fascism and strife. Tell me, have you visited the Eastern Flatlands?" the President interrupted the General, an unheard of occurrence in a state of egalitarianism. Yet he didn't argue. For one, he was an elder. For two, he was the most powerful man in the state of 1.1 billion. He also spoke philosophically, which held the masses at bay.

"Yes sir. I helped put down the uprising in the Caverns of La Democracia."

"Because," he began, "they have the same situation. Only worse. I want you to figure out how to fight in a rebellion, so in the event of one here, we already know what shall happen. Pick and choose your forces. Do not fail me."

And that was how the hellish adventure began. He prepared himself for the eventuality of a desert war, although he was sure it would be a lot worse. War may be hell, but failing the President was a worse fate.

OOC: Is it possible for me to RP a international arms dealer trying to sell weapons to the rebels? If the loyalists win he can be convicted and put on trial. Thought it would be something new

Yeni Sehife was not as damaged as James had feared. The missiles had hurt the city, mostly suburban areas, causing mainly civilian casualties. Serq was another story. Civilians were being evacuated from the city, military vehicles taking them from the city to nearby refugee camps. The underground facilities were damaged, but still operable. Officers rushed to and fro, eventually grounding all non-military aircraft. The radar facilities were placed on 24 hour alert across the nation, anti-aircraft and anti-missile facilities placed on red-alert.
The ballistic missiles sent toward the fleet were shot down. Two detonated instantaneously as a fail-safe from being disarmed, but they were still 20 miles from their target, so the chances of hitting the fleet were next to none.

Paula paced across her office, thinking. She heard several explosions and screaming. When she looked outside the window, she saw missiles raining across the city, blue gas spilling away from them. She rushed to the desk, ripping drawers open until she found the mask. She put on the mask as the gas filled the room. She breathed heavily; some of the gas got in before she reached the mask, and she could feel her airway partially closed because of it. She wandered into the hall; people dead and dying, except for the few that robbed the dead Azadliqan soldiers bodies of their masks.

Olum Airport

While the General was bringing in his forces by sea, a small advance force was arriving in the district of Olum. There were a few soldiers, but it was mostly a logistical mission to resupply the city. They had been prepared secretly by the President, and as such they were under their own command.

When they arrived, it was surprisingly like Teotan. A sandy dune as far as the eye could see, with relatively little water or vegetation. Perfect.

The CO of this little battlegroup, Colonel José Salazar walked over to a small administrative building. It was only a law office, old and worn in the desert heat, but the District Courthouse was the prison for the Loyalists.

The Colonel waited inside the waiting room, awaiting both the leader if there was one and the Expeditionary Force the President promised to send.
