Yeah, I'm hoping you'll tilt more towards Third Person in the writing here, but those are decent. Accepted.

So regional names I'm tossing around in my head are Weydia or Auregia/Aureland.

Anyone have any that they really think sound great?

Between those two I'm leaning more towards Weydia. The W did it for me.

Eh, two I can think of off the top of my head are Invernhe and Clydenoth.

Yeah, I think it's a bit stronger. Are you good with steppes instead of desert, so that the general climate can be temperate, but you can have rugged terrain to build your economy around?

This second sample is taken from a WW2 RP website. My character is an Austrian SS officer.

The sound of Beethoven, Symphony 7, Allegretto filled the lavish central Paris hotel room. In the background the rap, tap,the ratta-tat-tat on the glass windows overlooking the street could be heard. The newly promoted Sicherheitsdienst Untersturmfuhrer Franz Albrecht stood in a large glass mirror admiring his new officers uniform. Grey in colour, it was finished with custom stitching and alterations paid for to suit officers of the third Reich.

For four years Franz had served as the highest ranking NCO position one can achieve with the out most loyalty. Finally it had all paid off with this promotion. From Totenkopf to the SD, Albrecht had never been an enthusiastic Nazi. He was the type to do what was required, the standards were met, bottom line. Now he felt as if he owed them some form of gratitude, the spoils of war had become evident the day he set foot in Paris as an officer. The grand hotel, the way people addressed him when in public, if not with respect then it was fear. The war was a distant thing that always remained a common topic, discussion of it was known to bring out the worst in people.

As Franz combed his hair back with his right hand, the left followed, smoothing it down. Albrecht turned placing the comb on a nearby stand, with his free arm he lifted a long black leather greatcoat from the sofa located behind him. Slowly the Untersturmfuhrer slipped into the coat, his expression in the mirrors reflection was stern, blank, tonight would be dangerous like always. He would have to be alert, on point, at the top of his game. These operations could always go South once the targets realized who was paying them a visit. Many knew that if you were arrested, 50/50 chance you may not get released.

Albrecht's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the telephone buzzing in the next room. Franz strode to the receiver, glanced at his watch while lifting it then spoke, "Albrecht", he said with a sigh. The voice on the other end came firmly across, "Untersturmfuhrer, your car is out front.", Albrecht replied, "Thank you, be right down.", Franz placed the receiver down in it's holder then quickly rushed toward the record player lifting the needle from the album carefully moving it aside.

After a quick inspection of his pockets contents the Untersturmfuhrer exited the suite, lifting his hat from a hook by the door. After descending the stairs Franz made his way across the lobby, the sound of his jackboots on the marble floor echoed through the air. At the door Albrecht was greeted by a hotel doorman who quickly stepped aside with a nod, waiting on the street was a black 1937 Mercedes 300C with the engine running. The sky was covered in dark clouds, rain poured from the heavens. The sound of the storm would help to cover their movements during the operation.

Quickly Franz dashed for the back seat, he was met by the driver, "Sir, we must hurry. The drive will take ten minutes to arrive.", Albrecht slid inside the open door pulling it closed behind him. The SS Hauptscharfuhrer gave it a final push then moved around the left side of the vehicle climbing in the drivers door. So many times Franz had taken that exact route driving for officers. Now things had changed, it would be different from now on.

After roughly ten minutes of speeding through the dark streets the driver slowed the vehicle down, he spoke in a low voice, "Ahead, our guys sir.", Albrecht patted him on the shoulder, "Good, good. Pull on up
.".

Your example paragraph definitely shows improvement over the posts from 2009. That's the sort of thing I want from our RPers. Accepted.

I believe that brings our total up to eight people.

How do people feel about Moraland for a region name?

Moraland sounds good for me. Although if we're still having second thoughts about region names, we could consider things like major geographic features in the area or the predominant ethnic group that the region could be named after. For example, England being named after the English or Pennsylvania being both named after the state's founder (William Penn) and what was presumably the state's extensive forests (-sylvania coming from the Latin word for forest).

Well, see, that's the thing, without a regional map and names for those places, we can't really name our culture. So basically, those sorts of things have to be created along with the RP itself.

EDIT: A pretty map will be coming soon.

Eydunbury? It's from Norman, roughly meaning 'fortified, hilly island.' The source is this: http://www.countrylovers.co.uk/places/placnams.htm which gives a lot of prefixes/suffixes and what they were in Norman.

Ah, but you can see exactly why that applies to a specific place rather than a whole region. Also, I think under the rules from that, you've used a suffix as a prefix; Dunburey might be more what you're looking at to describe such a thing (I assume that the island is the most prominent geographical feature).

However, that's quite a great resource, and we'll definitely save it for later.

I'm still thinking on regional names... Perhaps once there's a map up, we can come up with a good regional name.

Budapest, 28th August 1776
Maria Theresa had recovered from her ordeal in the town of Székesfehérvár somewhat, and did not hesitate in the decision to continue her journey onwards to address the Hungarian Diet in Budapest. The Hungarian nationalists had gained a martyr in Ferenc Bródy, Maria's assailant, but had lost much support in the wake of his treacherous actions against a well-respected Royal. In addressing the Diet, Maria ensured that her scar, still raw from the attack, was covered by a shawl, which gave her the appearance of being a vulnerable, humble woman, of which she was neither.

Maria stepped out into the chamber, entering the presence of Hungary's most respected and influential men.

"Men of Hungary, I address not only as a representative of Austria, but as your King. Thirty-five years ago, I stood here and addressed the finest of your citizens, coronated only that year with the consent of those same citizens. From the moment that the crown of St Stephen was placed upon my head, I accepted the full responsibilty that any monarch should have expected of them. The union of crowns implies the union of responsibilities, and our partnership has been just that. For thirty-five years I have taken Hungary as my responsibilty, ensuring its freedom and success though its connections with Vienna. With the help of Budapest, Austria is now undoubtedly a power in Europe. Hungarian troops are fighting for our Empire in Lombardy, defending the realm against the tyranny of France.

Union, too, ensures safety. Without our two nations being united under the banner of one, we would both soon fall prey to the greedy eyes of Prussia, of Germany, of Russia and the Ottomans. We need this union to act as a buffer to all these powerful nations. Our voices together are what we need to sustain our independence; divided, we shall be swallowed up in the race for European supremacy.

As I have mentioned, I have taken responsibility for Hungary. It is like a child of my own, and nothing can remove the love I feel for this land. However, my love is tested when acts such as this happen." Maria removed the shawl to reveal her disfigured left side, much to the aungish of the Diet.
"From this, I can sense that although Hungary is a devoted nation on the whole, it still struggles with what may be percieved as a lack of identity: a yearning to have its own voice, free from Austria. How can this be so, when Austria allows you to rule yourselves freely with the right to have this great assembly, and an enviable stake in the rise of a great power? I stand before you today to suggest, nay, command you to stand forward for the union, which benefits us all, and condemn vile acts which threaten the peace and stability of Hungary, and therefore Austria."

A burst of applause rang throughout the chamber. It was undeniable that this union had served Hungary well, and with a leader as charismatic as Maria, would continue to do so for a long time. Although many Hungarians may secretly have wished for self determination, would they really be any better off?

Königsberg, Prussia, 28th August 1776

Maria Antonia, the fifteenth child of Maria Theresa and younger sister of the Austrian Kaiser, looked out of the window of her lodging with disdain. Although the weather was still good, storm clouds were gathering on the horizon, and it would soon be autumn. She had better get to St Petersburg quickly, else she may not be able to make it back to Austria before the snows left her stranded in Russia for the winter.

It was really rather puzzling to Maria as to why she was being sent to Russia, but she guessed that it was part of her mother's plans to foster better relations with Russia in the wake of war with France. Maria sighed. France! To think, only two years ago, she was the Queen of that country which she had grown to hate. Its people had tried to kill her, and had taken the life of her late husband, King Louis XVI, which led to the declaration of a republic while Maria was smuggled back to Austria, in fear for her life. The republic had soon collapsed, however, and monarchy had been restored, but Maria was left out of the proceedings and ignored. Relations between France and Austria had done nothing but deteriorate, and Maria was glad to see her mother put them back in their place.

Maria pondered her mother. Although they shared their names, they had little in common. The daughter feared her mother's dominance in the just as much as she feared for the future of Austria after her mother's passing. Her brother Joseph was intelligent, but after years of his mother's influence, how effective a ruler would he be? Maria sighed. In all of this, she was merely a diplomatic token, wasting her talents on entertaining princes and being sent to a northern wasteland, most probably with the intention of being signed signed away as damaged goods to some minor royal, meaning that she would never burden her mother again. Empress Sakura had not even been informed that she would be travelling through Prussia. In fact, the other lodgers in the inn weren't even aware that a former Queen was in the building! Maria Antonia stood back from the window and retired to bed as the sun set behind the spires of the Prussian city and sank into the storm clouds in the distance. Tomorrow she would continue her journey to meet Catherine of Russia; Maria expected to reach her destination by mid September.

French Piedmont, 2nd September 1776

Baron Von Laudon marched with confidence across the Austrian border into Piedmont, near the city of Alessandria, which was his first target. On top of the 40,000 troops present, the 30,000 reserves that had been ordered to come to Von Laudon's assistance had since caught up, as had a contingent of 8,000 Prussian troops, renowned for their professionality, a direct result of the rule of Kirsa I's predecessor, Frederick the Great who had died in deeply suspicious circumstances. Frederick and his Prussians had once been adversaries of the Baron's, and it was refreshing for him to now have control of a contingent of a once formidable enemy.

As cannons fired into the Austrian lines, which consisted of 40,000 troops (including 5,000 Prussians), Von Laudon gave the orders for 25,000 men to come in from the north to the tip of the French defences, from where the Austrians would attack the French trench work and move their way down, with the intention of dividing French attentions and removing the threat of their line of defence.

In the mean time, it had been noted that French ships were sailing south east to the Papal States, an ally which had declared their intent to move north through Italy to join the Austrians. It was unclear to the Austrians as to whether the ships had troops in them or were simply being sent to blockade the coast, but nonetheless, the Baron decided that the Pope would require support and sent his remaining 13,000 soldiers to beseige the nearby city of Parma, a member of the Lombardy league and an ally of France.

Cologne, Germany, 2nd September 1776

Having been deployed to the German front when war was declared on France, Count Franz Moritz von Lacy had finally arrived at the broken city of Cologne with his army of 35,000 troops. Seeing that the Germans had already initiated an attempt at re-taking the city, Von Lacy signed command of this troops to the Germans, although Von Lacy himself would remain head of the Austrian troops.

I've gone for sort of Germanic/Slavic sounding names with my characterisation, does that reflect the intended culture of this Kingdom? Ideally, I'd like for the kingdom to be bordered by other nations that we could come into conflict with or shara alliances with in the future. Of course, if I get accepted, that is!

I'm tentatively welcoming you on board. Some of the things you've said don't mesh, like how this nation is being used more than the other, but it only has 1 post... If you're willing for this nation to become your sort of main nation, then consider yourself signed up.

As far as culture goes, I'm hoping people would like a blend of sort of Celto-Anglo-Scandinavian-Germanic, obviously with some assimilations.

And as this region grows, I'll certainly be able to add additional landmass. The map is coming along, right now.

Also my top candidate for regional name is Talahame; which roughly means Story-Home, which is what I hope the region will be. Kind of dorky, but I like it.

I like that one, actually, especially the way I pronounce it(Tala rhyming with Gala and Hame rhyming with fame).

On another note, if we still need a map, I have an extra one I doodled a while back that would suit our purposes.

That's good, mine's a wee-bit more detailed than that.

The Map of Talahame

The southwest island and the land up to the peaks is mine, though vassals and whatnot could take up pieces.

I'll claim the peninsula and island to the southeast, with the northern border being as far north as you'll allow it, if that's appropriate.

EDIT: Are you going to establish the political borders on this map as well?

I'll take the steppes, obviously.
