New Player Looking for a Good Region

Hi. I'm new to the Nationstates boards, but I've heard some cool things about this place from my various friends who have accounts here. I've always been big on writing, and I've done some stories and things of that nature on Writing.com before, and in talking with my friends they seem to think that this would be a good place to write some stories with people. I'm pretty new to the concept of roleplaying, but I'm hoping to get introduced to the boards pretty quickly.

Does anyone know of a good, active place where I could break in and get some experience on the roleplaying boards? Maybe a roleplaying group or one of the regions or what not? I would appreciate all the help I could get! Thanks!

Could I get a brief idea about how active the region is, or what kind of nations or storytellers you're looking for? I just don't want to make a mistake, or cause problems in a new place.

Would Xanadou be open to allowing me control a couple of islands for my nation? I haven't gotten much worked out just yet, but the island part is a definite.

You would have to talk to Riemaia, our regional cartographer - I'm sure she would get you some nice islands for your nation.

Bah! You'd be easily able to participate in our region! All we ask is that you have fun and aren't a n00b. So far you've shown to be a talented writer who can hold their own on the forums. You're honestly a breath of fresh air in my opinion. You'd be welcomed with open arms, my friend, and there's plenty in Xanadou who'd be kind enough to show you around and roleplay with you, me included.

others will try and convince you need to join a region with a large military

and will list all the benefits of their region, but what makes a region really great is the people around you,

the friends (or enemies) that you make on Nations States.
