I concur. Since it is a side weapon, following in the example of the throwing knife (1.5 Iron, +1STR, -5SPE), it should be quite weak and slightly overpriced resource-wise. A simple reduction to 1STR would fix the matter IMO, as 1 Wood is only a little less valuable than 0.5 Iron.

Oh Sadface... I've put the STR down to one

Well, each person is mining the same amount (because it's based on your Base Resources), and you get some when you conquer other territories, also people use them for high power weapons and armor, so in the end it kind of evens itself out. Part of this being a realistic world is having some differences between nations. Maybe one has a much larger surplus of Gold, but there also could be a nation with a much more powerful army, or one with great infrastructure. Part of what makes the game fun is seeing how these different nations use these different skills to interact with each other. Now I'm not saying it's good if one nation is very overly powerful, I'm just saying small specialities and skill differences make the engine and interaction more dynamic.

"Imbalance" probably wasn't the right word to use. More like "all-around unrealistic overpoweredness", as each person's military, funded by steadily increasing resource reserves, slowly increases in size and starts to catch up with the roughly stagnant total population. Leading that to its logical conclusion, eventually people will be able to afford having literally everyone in the country in the fighting force. And once that is achieved, they'll just keep upgrading pay and weapons...

Well, you keep thinking this is a highly competitive game. Yes, it's possible that someone would do that, but I don't think anyone here is spending all their resources in that way. If they were, the moderators can easily tell them to keep it down and reduce it. And for RP reasons, people realistically can't make their whole population in the army. The amount of resources need to do so would take RL years (only 5% regen for metals w/ a mine, which not everyone even has). Besides, I see overpowered bully nations as a RP opportunity. Think of it, one nation with a massive military tries to pick on a weaker nation, and the weaker nation forms an alliance/coalition w/ other nations to fight back. Suddenly, we've got an epic world war for everyone to participate in :) .

I think it is the 07 version there. Alternatively, you can copy one of them and paste it on where you want.

Okay, I'm a bit confused here. Do mounts give strength at all, or no? If so, my calvary should be quite a bit more powerful.

That's mainly it, to put a check on everyone's steel supply.

Just a warning for those that happen to glance upon my factbook, ledger, and military force I am in the process of changing my faction so it is all a work in progress so if you have any comments or suggestions about possibly bettering my new nation then please do. Otherwise do not fear, I will be getting my nation into order some time soon and I will hopefully also start creating that quest thread I promised.

Am I allowed to use a very, very basic form of gunpowder, or is that still too hi-tech :)? I researched gunpowder, and I learned that it was invented as early as the 800's.

Personally I do not care, but you probably should ask others for that.

Sounds fine by me. As far as I can tell, anything up to the 1200s/1300s is fine (guessing based on steel plate armor being allowed). As long as it's not overpowered, a few little rockets and grenades here and there won't kill anyone (ha, I made a pun). I'll probably have to get in on some of that action myself, what with my not being able to stand being in any way "backward". I might RP our interest in it in Iron Sharpens Iron. I think people will draw the line at remotely-operated explosives or handheld firearms though, because that takes away from the medieval feel.

I think at best the use of gun powder should be limited severely. I would suggest its use militarily speaking would be like Tavok said; being mainly inaccurate rockets and possibly early but unreliable grenades. The main thing being that it can be used for some shock value but is not too terribly efficient to use as a tool of war. Also I would suggest that any unit that uses gun powder should be expensive to make and maintain. I just am afraid that if gun powder is made too reliable and powerful that the whole theme of medieval/fantasy rping will be subverted and changed to something different. So I am not against allowing it in but I am all for a lot of regulations on its use but that is just my opinion.

Yeah, I was only thinking about implementing crude, one-shot gun things, but I'll think about that.

use it like it was used in Lord of the Rings. Nobody should really dispute that kind of use considering that LOTR is one of the greatest fantasies of all time. Also almost have my intro post up.
