Well it's not like the Cold War, you don't have to be as strong as everyone else or face destruction :p . Just hire armies, and with that small upkeep you'll be making the big bucks. Just looking on the bright side :) .

My guess is that the moderator will set the number and strength of troops there according to the number and strength of your own troops. So you could probably just invade right away. The only time a small military will actually hurt you is when you're fighting player-controlled nations.

Lol :). Yeah... I'm still worried. I really need to expand.

Or when you are really stretching the size of land you can claim.

Well, there was a time when I just started out when everyone was expanding and I didn't, and I was worried at first, but RL months passed and I was able to raise enough troops to finally start one (while everyone was on their second :p )so don't worry if you're a little behind, you'll catch up :) .

Also do horse give 2 STR or 1 STR, in terms of how people have been using them?

Maybe the rider gives them a sense of purpose and motivation :p  . I have them at 1 STR myself, so I was seeing if I should edit to comply with "general horse rules". lol

I have about 300 miles of coastline so I multiply 5,000 by 3 and get 15,000. I'll take your number randomization idea and have 15,032 people. Now to get to work on my army or focus map.

EDIT: Factbook in progress! I finally have time for this!

Reno is Tuthina. Also, I'd be glad to construct one with you, I'll introduce it in Iron Sharpens Iron if you want :) . Rule 10 completely explains how trade routes work if your confused about anything.

Sounds good, thanks.

EDIT: Finally got my intro finished, though I realize that it's ended up as really more of a history. Like I said before, I just couldn't stand being brand-new or newly reconnected with the world, so I've pretended Bennor never existed and created a succinct little history for my nation extending back a few hundred years. I realize that the intro isn't technically intended to be a history, but I feel like it "introduces" my nation better than any one moment RPed in detail could. Hope it's at least passable...

Okay I think this is the last rule in the book that I find truly confusing... Resource Bonuses. Does it actually mean that you can benefit from having resources just sitting there? It would make sense if you had to use them up to incur the bonuses, perhaps magically absorbing them into your infrastructure, but gaining money from having them just collect dust before you use them later baffles me a bit. And since Gold and Silver are rarely used but are mined regularly, does that mean that your total GDP will basically just increase indefinitely as time goes on? I'm reading the rule wrong, right?

I suppose it means the resources circumlating your country and creating wealth from nothing. It does not make sense, but in RL it does work ilto some degree, so maybe you should just accept it.

I would cite that IRL gold cannot be mined indefinitely, but I'll just suck it up and deal with it like you said. I only worry that it could create some imbalance as time goes on...

I suggest you add 1 more of either resource or take a SPE of -10, because those are the same materials that make a Spear, which is just +1 and has -10.

Well, each person is mining the same amount (because it's based on your Base Resources), and you get some when you conquer other territories, also people use them for high power weapons and armor, so in the end it kind of evens itself out. Part of this being a realistic world is having some differences between nations. Maybe one has a much larger surplus of Gold, but there also could be a nation with a much more powerful army, or one with great infrastructure. Part of what makes the game fun is seeing how these different nations use these different skills to interact with each other. Now I'm not saying it's good if one nation is very overly powerful, I'm just saying small specialities and skill differences make the engine and interaction more dynamic.

I concur. Since it is a side weapon, following in the example of the throwing knife (1.5 Iron, +1STR, -5SPE), it should be quite weak and slightly overpriced resource-wise. A simple reduction to 1STR would fix the matter IMO, as 1 Wood is only a little less valuable than 0.5 Iron.

"Imbalance" probably wasn't the right word to use. More like "all-around unrealistic overpoweredness", as each person's military, funded by steadily increasing resource reserves, slowly increases in size and starts to catch up with the roughly stagnant total population. Leading that to its logical conclusion, eventually people will be able to afford having literally everyone in the country in the fighting force. And once that is achieved, they'll just keep upgrading pay and weapons...
