“My arms have mutinied against me — brutes!
My fingers fidget like ten idle brats,
My back's been stiff for hours, damned hours.
Death never gives his squad a Stand-at-ease."
- Wilfred Owen
An Epic Tale of Death
A Great War RP
Introduction
The War to End All Wars (WEAW) is an character-driven RP set during the years of 1914 to 1918. It features multiple threads and multiple nations, battling through massive technological advancements that wreak havoc on soldiers and society. Technology is developed at a real world rate, meaning that tanks will not arrive until summer of 1916, while aerial fighters will not achieve prominence until 1915. Tear gas can be used almost instantly, but poison gasses shouldn't be used until January of 1915. Each thread is a separate theatre of war, based on where conflicts are occurring in the world at any given moment. For instance, a Central Front Theatre may exist between two countries in Bespin as they battle for dominance over land claims.
References to real world events are strictly banned. Use analogous events rather than real world ones. For instance, since England does not exist in this map, the English Civil War would be nonsensical. However, references to another events work.
This is an open RP. There is still claimable space on the map, and any nation can join at any time, provided they following the joining rules below. If there is unclaimed space, it's recommended that nations RP as neutrals joining a side. In the event of all the space being claimed, nations will join as revolters against an already established nation, colonial or separatist; or they can join as a client state of another country; it's up to them.
Rules
1. No one liners.
2. No godmodding.
3. All posts must rely on characters to advance the plot.
4. Anyone is allowed to join the RP once it's begun, but they stake a claim on the map.
5. Nations that go inactive or stop posting for an extended period will be RPed as having internal chaos. They may be annexed or their territory may become part of a joining nation. If they return to the RP, they can start a revolution in their previous territory.
To begin, claim a part of the map. North Orus is a large country, and it is not recommended to claim a space that size. In this RP, land amount isn't really vital. You could be tiny, but your economy could be a super power. Use the template under "National Information". Another note, North Orus has a large military because the country is large, but the military isn't well trained, and it doesn't have the best weapons. Small military = good weapons and skill. Serbia's military was small but well trained and well equipted, Russia's military, on the other hand was not. I like to RP as a massive, but weak army, that's my choice.
For an example of rule #3, a character-driven post looks like this:
Captain Dmitri Lrun, of the Royal Air Squadron, hopped into his Refdam Vengeance biplane. He lowered his goggles onto his face, pressed the throttle and sped off down the runway. Within moments, his Vengeance was airborne, and he flew over the trees, heading for the front lines. Troopers below him cheered as he passed overhead, and he waggled his wings in salute. Over no-man's land he flew, and he sighted the enemy observers circle high overhead.
Then, the enemy trenches exploded as the first shells of North Orus's artillery train landed in their midst. Even as he climbed through the air, he could feel the concussions of the exploding shells. Then, when it finally ended, he looked back towards his lines. Thousands of soldiers were swarming out, like a kicked-open anthill. He watched the mass close on the enemy lines, then suddenly, the bursts of machine guns opened up, and he watched as the tide of North Oruians stopped as though running up against a brick wall. He jotted down the position of the machine guns on a field map. A heavy price to pay for next to useless information. Likely the his now retreating army already knew where the MGs were. They had still charged them anyways.
Then a burst of machine gun fire came from behind him, tearing into the chassis of his plane. He turned around behind him to look, and saw an enemy fighter on his six, coming down from above. Dmitri took evasive action...
NOTE: I would like to say Thank You to Offenhiem for creating the first version of this RP (AFROD). Thanks for letting me use the text from the original. I'm sorry the old one died, and I hope this one will be as great as the last. Once again, thank you.
