Yes. Refrain from using non-ASCII standard English/Latin letters. I've attempted to escape most of them, but Firefox's XML parser throws a hissy fit and dies completely on most of them. It's something I doubt I'll ever have full support for, so simply don't use them.

Optionally, spell them out. I know that German special characters in particular have "spelt out" equivalents; for example, "ß" is iirc "ss." So if you still want the import of a non-ASCII character, see if it has an equivalent ASCII spelling.

Also Mindset, another feature to consider. Could you make a button that generates Wiki codes for planets that are being displayed - i.e., its name, distance from Sol, encapsulated in == == level headings? Once one narrows the view down to their nation using your handy key, they could then hit that button and have an instant territories page.

I'll implement this soon (and also an option for parsing it to bbcode for the forum).

Better and better. Again I call for this being stickied when this gets out of Beta, at the very least.

Is this all being funded on your own site Mindset? Or is this on a common site somewhere? Just wondering since the potential exists for this all to be taken down by 'something', at some point. Wondering if funding would be one of those issues. =oo=

It is hosted on my site.

The funding issue is something I've thought carefully about. The map is fairly scalable - it uses relatively little bandwidth (because the images you see are actually dynamically generated SVG files - which are actually plain text and around 80kb per page load). Since launch, I've used around 500mb of bandwidth, which is not that much above average.

My hosting service is owned by a friend who provides me with unlimited (within reason) bandwidth at no cost.

I forsee no problems on this end, at least for the forseeable future.

Lucky. Hope the bandwidth can handle the load that will likely be coming more and more, since I cannot see this being anything but wildly popular. Just be glad I didn't see this back in my original incarnation of the Ascendancy. I had several hundred Systems back then in the MWCG here, all heavily advanced and populated.

If you worry about abuse, I woulda likely been one of them back then. =^^=

Here's the original low down on it, to show how bad a boy I was back then. (Probably all shades of bad too. =^^=) : Original Gaian Core Republic

Course then came the Exodus move when the GE attacked due to Neo Zeta interference at the time. And then the vast Intergalactic Super Empire-Republic after that that encompassed thousands of galaxies.

Nice to go back to low key eh? =^^=;;;

If you have systems on Bryn Shander's galaxy map (located here), you can convert the coords you used there to my map coords using this tool:

http://map.esusalliance.co.uk/brynmap.php

It will also present a link to the relevant area for easy insertion.

Can you add alliances onto the map? If not, then can you put down the Allied Systems Confederacy?

PS: I don't get how the FTLi radius works. Is there a limit? Is is the higher the number the further it can go? I typed in the numbers for a fleet, but the blue shading didn't come up.

I can manually add alliances. Small FTLi ranges don't show, but if you have one around 500 or above you'll see it.

I've added your alliance.
