Captain Ford smiled at the newcomers. He was a little uneasy about the approaching soldiers at first, but they seemed friendly enough.
"What a day we've been having," he said to Lieutenant Marley, "More friends than we know what to do with."
He turned back to the men from the Kleomentian Order and saluted.
"Captain Ford of the New Model Army. Good to meet you. I'm afraid we're settling down for the night, but we can take to back to Das Republik come sun-up. The wastes are too dangerous to cross after nightfall. If the raiders don't get at you, the creatures of the night will."

Das Republik wrote:The next morning, the soldiers rose before dawn and prepared for the trek back to the Republik. During the night they had killed four raiders who had tried to breach their defenses. The soldiers checked them for anything of value before wrapping them up in shrouds and laying them out on the rocky ground.
The Chaplain led a short service. The men recited a hymn before carrying the bodies to a nearby field and burying them there.
The Republik soldiers were quite religious and insisted on respecting the dead, even their enemies. Killing was a necessary evil in this world, and while they were skilled at it, they did not enjoy it. Their faith was one of the things that reminded them of their civilization in a land all but overrun by bloodthirsty anarchy.
After the formalities were taken care of, the men sat down and cooked their breakfast rations over the embers of their fires. They then loaded up their packs and prepared to march.
Captain Ford waited for Vojik to wake before going over to speak with him.
"We're ready to escort you back to the Republik now. Should only be a few hours' marching."
