Cassius Major, Cassius system, The galactic outer rim
The planet sits silently in the supposed Goldilocks zone of the system. Green and blue sit in perfect proportion, along with the beige of deserts and white of ice at its poles. The four moons that orbit it are average sized, numerous craters dot their surface from the many eons of being impacted again and again. The planet seems so very perfect. 3 massive oceans of water, 5 continents. It was like another Terra, but there was very eerie aspect to this world that no other planet in the galaxy shared with it.
It wasn't formed naturally.
As we look to the north pole, the perfect alignment of nature's design begins to wear into cold, geometric shapes, until the mountains you see to your left look impossibly complex, as if they were buildings. From a ground view, it simply looks as if they are sprawled all around, like someone had been to this mysterious world before them. But from say a bird's eye view, something much more ominous appears. These shapes are aligned in a circular format, inside the circle little sweeps of metal poke through. This was no previous colony that had gone into extinction, this was an entrance. A gateway. Into the planet.
Many, many years prior to Alien - Human war, there was an ancient race of machines. They had held the Galaxy under their cold grip for many centuries, even eons. over a million years. Their rule existed during when humans had yet to even form civilization when they were patrolling the stars, and on an even more absurd action, building planets. They would mine naturaly formed planets until they imploded from being so unstable, then used the resources to build their own. But during the human 1980's, the machines went into hibernation due to a massive virus that had infected multiple Drone worlds. To save themselves, they went into their worlds, and shut down and have existed so for many years. Most Drone worlds are either colonized by other empires now, or still sitting all alone. As for cassius major, it sits in the darkness. For now.
