Petr fired a shot at a retreating Ukrainian, impacting him in the lower back and sending him tumbling down. He and the remaining 25 men rushed into the previously occupied trench. The trench was littered with shell casings, crunching into the dirt as the troops walked over them. The men set up the 3 remaining MG-42's, while some troops readied their panzerfausts, waiting for the counterattack. Reinforcements from the 3rd SS Panzer Division wouldn't be arriving for until the evening.
Back behind the lines, another nebelwerfer battalion (12 nebelwerfers) had began to set up, while two more panzerwerfers crept towards where the other two were. Petr knew they wouldn't hold out, but they would have to make sure to retreat when the time was needed. Several screeches were heard as the 16 nebelwerfers came to life, launching their 320mm rockets at the current Ukrainian lines.
Writing Room, Imperial Palace, Vienna, Austria-Hungary
Emmalina Franz, personal secretary of the Queen, sat on her leather chair, writing off several letters to various regions of the Empire. She placed down the pen and looked outside the window that was near her desk. There was a slight breeze coming through, gently shuffling any pinned down papers. She placed the letter she just finished and frowned when she saw another one placed directly over it. Emmalina picked up the report from the O.K.H (Oberkommando Heers), reading the letter. She frowned when she saw the amount of casualties that Heeresgruppe A and B had taken, already more than 500 and they barely made it a kilometer inland in some places.
She got up, letter in hand, and walked down to the throne room. The walk was brief, and she knocked on the door, opening it slightly as she did so. When the okay was given, she briskly walked down the red carpet that laid in the middle, her dirty blonde hair bouncing as she walked.
"Your excellency" Emmalina said, bowing. "Letter from the O.K.H" She continued, holding out the letter. Viktoriya took the letter, and read it over, frowning at the casualty reports.
"Get me a pen and some paper, I believe it's time we communicated with the Bolsheviks" the queen said to a servant. The servant reemerged a few moments later with the materials in hand. The Queen dipped the pen in the ink and started to write, the pen gliding over the paper with each hand motion.
Addressed to Nikolai Trotsky
From Queen Viktoriya Hajek I, Austro-Hungarian Empire
Subject: A proposition
Mr. Trotsky, I write to you with my own hand. The needless bloodshed must be stopped, we should not be fighting each other, regardless of our ideologies. With that being said, I propose a peace agreement, whether it be there in Kiev, or here in Vienna, no strings attached. In the mean time, I am ordering a cease fire, at least until the peace agreement is finished and you have returned to you own country. I recommend you do the same.
With Respect,
Viktoriya Hajek the First
