The founding of Fort Augusta (FT, Open)

Postby Phenixica » Fri Jul 15, 2011 7:51 pm

In the 3 decades that Phenixica has held space in the Milky Way they finally were making a serious push to enforce Phenixican rule. They had recently discovered a system which they named Augusta. It was a dying system with a bloated red giant and nothing by asteroids all around. But there was the Remanents of a world now nothing but a dying mass of rock which was on the outside of this mess of s system.

The main goal before the contructon of a Fortress System is realizing that these forts also act as schools. This is a place that soldiers have to be able to keep there skills sharp and that ships can practice. The arrival of the 900 ships in the system would freak out passers by to see the military buildup. Some of the ships started hovering over the planet and they were carrying a giant Bio-Dome and the first capsules were being put together in space to create a spce station capable of docking about 250 ships at one time.

Fortress Systems were used purely as a place for a local army to be stationed during peacetime. The idea is that if a problem arises the Empire knew where it's ships were located and where to send them. It was also a base of operations in wartime against a enemy. The message was going out.

The Phenixican had not only arrived, but they were starting to plan something big.

Unbeknownst to Phenixicans, The system they knew as Augusta was once an exosystem of the 44th Independent Legion. Needless to say, it had long since been abandoned, easily two thousand years ago or more. However, this did not meant that the prying eyes of the Fifth Exofleet, who bore responsibility for this area of space, were idle on Augusta. For now, it's scouting drone went undetected, but it was merely an inreasingly sshort matter of time until the small dormant craft, sitting on a small insignificant aseroid was inevitably detected.
Admiral Harman, the acting commander of exofleet five, was slightly anxious of the drone's inevitable destruction. -scouting drones are generally ill appreciated near (future) fortresses.- He knew full well that although there mere attacking of an unmanned drone hardly registered as a minor international incident, the construction of a large naval base inside what officially still was a 44th Independent Legion system, was not. It was hard to tell what capabilities the Phenixian vessels had, and the database did not seem to account for their ship sizes either. It left the admiral unsure if any engagement would be favourable. He guessed not, but then again, saurai battleships were very large and very dangerous, even if they only were 'baby battleships'. Regardless of how any hopefully avoided engagement would go, intel on the system could not simply be secceeded, and Admiral Harman was prepared to make a gamble if push should come to a shove.

Most of the ships which were in the system we part of the Construction team hired to put together the Fortress. The head of this Fleet was Admiral George Harrison who was incharge of the 5th Fleet which duties were the protection of Phenixican Interest in the Milky Way meaning he had a huge job infront of him.

IPN:Nadine, Dreadnought Class
"Admiral, we have detected a small electronic signature on our scope. It has taken us awhile to locate it due to the massive amount of radiation coming from the Sun. I think we should go and have a look"

"Send a Fighter Squadron, if it's not a military target then dont engage"

The order was given and a fighter detachent of 4 was sent to investigate the signal, when they arrived to find a Scout Drone they were quick to report it back home over the comlnnk.

"Observation Admiral, does not appear to be a military threat. But it does mean somebody is taking a gander at what we are doing" said a fighter pilot through heavy static.

"Is it armed?" replied the Admiral

"By what we can tell no Admiral, what are your orders?"

"Collect the drone and brine it back to the Nadine for study. We ave more pressing matters to attend too at this time"

The Blaze Fighter's shot Magnetic Harpoons at the Drone with the interest of bringing it back to base. Meanwhile some of the ships in the fleet start orbiting around the system dropping off small beacons which would help the Phenixicans scan pass the huge background radiation. These little silver orbs would let Phenixica keep it's eyes open in the system.

((OOC: Most Phenixican ships are not particularly large. The Dreadnought Class for example would be the size of a Star Destroyer for example. Hercules Class Warship about a 2/3 of that size with most of the Frigates probably resembling teven smaller. Phenixica's Empire spans far to wide to have large ship tactics. It was seen as impractical and drains to much manpower))

"Sensors report the scout drone has been attacked but undamaged." reported the familiar computer voice.
Admiral Harman knew quite well this could only mean they had attatched clamps of some sort to it, or started dragging it along using strike craft, for scouting drones were not exactly the most sturdy objects in the universe.
An attendant had anticipated the Admiral's next question. Percieving this, he politely asked. "Specifications please."
The attendant neatly handed over a printed sheat listing all the items aboard the scouting drone. As an admiral, it is virtually a prerequisite to know the origins of all the components of at least most of the local scouting drones. As Harman went through the list, checking it thrice, he found no restricted or otherwise offensive technology aboard the drone. nothing, except a silicate recombination self-repair-like system.
The admiral swore silently.
"Send a scouting ship" He ordered briskly.

It was captain Argudal of the Vengeance class scout frigate the Intermissive Interdictor who received the order at the latter stages of the command chain.
"Can we get a lock?" He asked his pilot.
"Not unless we activate an emergency beacon on the drone sir."
"So be it."
They did not know if the Phenixians even had the technology to detect, let receive an immaterial resonance signal, but they had to take the risk. The drone received it's command instantly through the FTL communications of the ship and transmitted a beacon signal back at the same speed. The drone's beacon was weak, too weak to facilitate larger ships, or even more than one scouting ship. Added to that was the fact the drone could only maintain this beacon a limited time before it either burned out or depleted it's energy reserves. Nonetheless, it could act like a beacon and, like all beacons, also as a potential lock. The bearing of the ship was well-known, for it had been docked in it's base of operations for a long time. Thus, all three critical components for Sjøfaring had presented itself to the ship: A bearing in relation to it's starting point, a beacon matrix to maintain the locale and a lock; a destination.
"How far in can we rift out?" Asked the captain before the procedure for rifting in had begun in earnest.
"About one" Answered his pilot.
"Make it three" Said Argudal.

As if with an invisible zipper running along nine dimensions simultaneously, space itself opened 2,5km behind the drone. Soon enough, they would say it was further behind the drone. After all ,the drone was moving, the rift was not.
The hole in space scintillated with a iridescent white and a great many other indescribable and unreal colours. Soon enough the Scout frigate came soaring through the hole in space and with neat precision, the rift closed, as if it was never there at all. If it hadn't been for the bright light and the burst of radiation, no one could even say for sure it had ever been there at all. Rifting in and out had taken only a matter of seconds, about two to rift in, a second or so moving about in the immaterium and another second or two exiting the immaterium and entering the system. The procedure leading up to this however, even for a specialised scouting vessel, would have taken several minutes. For larger vessels, this time could be much, much, much longer. The ship transmitted on multiple systems to ensure the message was received. The automatic translator would do the rest. Or it didn't, and their automatic translators would. If they had any. Regardless, a simple signal was sent, just in case the translation wasn't quite optimal.
This is the SSGL Intermissive Interdictor. You have in your possession a scouting drone. We wish it returned immediately.

The message was received, Phenixica had spent decades studying the thousands of dialects which polluted the Milky Way wavelengths. The Admiral was quick to reply in Galactic Common (English)

"This is Admiral Harrison of the 5th Fleet, we ask for answers as to why you are spying on our movements. This system has been claimed by the Imperial Commonwealth. We will not release the drone until your answers are satisfactory"

He turns to face his advisors

"Why did we not pick this up before?" he asked, hint of anger under his voice

"Most systems we know of in the MIlky Way were discovered by PEACS and not the military. There equipment probably couldnt pierce all this radiation. Since the system has died they probably assumed that it was up for grabs. The system does not even have any remaining material wealth"

"Well that means either these people are trying to keep a eye on our movements or they have a interest in the system. We wont release the drone until we are happy with their answers. Meanwhile carry on, a single ship is no threat to us"

Meanwhile a being flying through space that was looking around saw a new planet full of life. He sent his arms into the air and in his mind he sent a message to his Master.
"Galactus, I have found a planet worthy of your Hunger."

Soon after a giant ship appeared out of a Cosmic Hole and looked over the planet.
"My Herald, thank you for finding this planet, soon I shall feast as the Great Hunger ravages on, I shall give them 24 hours to leave the planet if they wish to live."
"yes Galactus." the Herald said as he looked at the planet.

Don't worry, the planet is not doomed unless you do something for me, this action can make or brake your chances of keeping this planet. will respond after you respond to picking up my ship on your radar or something.

"The insolence! They claim we spy on them? They claim this system, just like that?" Said captain Arugdal.
"Raise shield layers 12 to 24" He ordered. "deploy a beacon, sweepscan this system!"
Captain Argudal calmed himself and answered.
Your claims of espionage is unbased, the 44th Independent Legion has been observing this rightful claim to their territory for the past six thousand years, local time. Your claim to this system is considered invalid until you have put it through the official channels for such procedures. Return the drone at once.

Captain Argudal wondered. His ship, although only a scouting ship, was in relative size actually quite large compared to the ships they had in the system. Then again, he was alone and they numbered well over 850 ships. If things got out of hand, would he be able to survive long enough for re-enforcements to arrive? It should matter not, the drone was to be retrieved - by force if necessary.

The Scout ship was still being relatively ignored, the fighters remained in there place they were not moving. But neither were any of the ships moving into engagement position with the new ship. Harrison smiled at the reply and was quick to give his own.

"Even with a history going back 6000 years, you can hardly expect us to take such a claim seriously. Absolutely no development has taken place in this system and considering the huge amount of study that went into this system before we came here you had ample opportunity to open communications. Since all this went on without any intervention by your Legion I suggest you start rethinking the situation. Also to put it simply with where these orders come from, I cant just overule it due to a bunch of angry locals".

He nodded to a advisor

"Now we will release the drone, on the promise of you leaving this system and recognizing our claim. If you do not leave the system immeadiately I will have to organize for you to be escorted out and trust me you do not want to be on our bad books"

"I do not have the authority to grant such a demand, but worry not, someone who can is on his way." Responded captain Argudal. It had taken him several tries to record the message properly, id est, without sounding arrogant or threatening. Though he did not look forward to an escalation of the conflict, but he did like surprises. And because Admiral Harman was the only nearby individual of sufficient authority, and admirals were not allowed to leave their flag ships and flagships were not allowed to leave their fleet, the Phenixians were in for quite a surprise. In due time of course, it's not easy moving battleships.

"What can we expect?" said Harrison to a advisor

"Judging by this only being a Scout Vessel and it's enormous size, I have a feeling they might try a intimidation route Admiral"

"What reinforcements can we count on?"

"Well these are most of the ships in the MIlky Way, but this order came from the Emperor himself. It's the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence to make sure this task is complete"

"ANSWER THE QUESTION!" he shouted

"Few reinforcements from here, but they can be sent via Zerus from the Citerian"

"Whats our intel on the enemies ships"

"Not much, other then what we can tell looks like they follow large ship tactics Admiral, typical of most modern fleets in this sector. More aimed to try and deter a fight then actually start one"

"Well, we will see where this goes. But prepare to call for reinforcements if we do need them. I dont think these natives know who they are dealing with"

"We will wait for your representative to hand over control"

Colonel Steven Cox, Scoutstar Longbow
Augusta System, 1400hrs P.M.S.T

The 579.1 metre length of the Colonial Scoutstar arrived in the system with a flash of light, it was probably one of the smallest combat ships in service with the Colonial Fleet, and had a very specific role to fulfil; as its name indicated its role was that of a heavy scout. Whilst being one of the smallest ship types in question, it still possessed enough armament to fight its way out of trouble if it ended up scouting a so-called ‘Hot System’ when it came under attack. It however lacked the heavy weapons required to properly take on a larger vessel, as well as lacking Vipers, instead possession a respectable number of Raptors for its size, intended to aid it in scouting out an area that it might find itself in. Scoutstars are generally good places to get experience prior to going for command of a larger vessel, and unlike Gunstars where a commanding officer rarely went on to command a Battlestar, the Scoutstars serve largely as proving grounds for officers intending to go onto a larger command, be it a less prestigious but just as important, Gunstar or the more prestigious Battlestars, although another common route was through service as an XO for several years. Steven Cox, Colonial Colonel and commander of the Scoutstar Longbow, was intending to go on to command a Battlestar, he had been an XO for a short time, but Picon had wanted to put him on a Scoutstar to test him.

And given the mission they were going into, this was probably going to be a good test. A Colonial Civilian surveyor had reported that someone had set up some sort of installation in the system the Scoutstar had just jumped into and it was the task of the Longbow to discover exactly what was going on, not important enough to warrant a Battlestar, or even a Gunstar, but important never the less. At least this was what Colonel Cox was thinking as he strode into his CIC. The CIC of a Longbow Class Scoutstar was a small space as it was designed to only have to deal with It’s own performance in combat, unlike a Battlestar it didn’t have to co-ordinate the operations of itself, other combat vessels, not to mention the Vipers and other craft that Battlestars carried into battle. As a result the CIC was centred around a Command and Control station, above with the main DRADIS display was located. Other stations were located nearby, but unlike a larger vessel each department of the ships operation possessed a single station, and not the multiple found aboard larger ships. It served its purpose, but it also reduced the combat survivability of the ship.

But then the Longbow was intended to enter combat, only to be able to get itself out.

“What have we got?” Cox asked as he walked forward.

“Looks like a space station above the planet, not sure if it’s finished at this range” Captain Nathanial Brooks reported from the tactical station “I’ve also got at least one vessel, DRADIS indicates it is approximately in between the Jupiter and Mercury Classes of Battlestar in terms of size”

“What about contact set Sierra Two?” Cox asked

“It’s approximately 3.4 kilometres in length, heavy flak weapons, including some energy-plasma-weapons as well as larger weapons, also energy” Brooks replied “Big ship”

“You know what they say about size Captain” Cox replied with a grin “Stand-by to create a flak perimeter, all main weapons to hot-standby and keep the FTL spooled up in case we need to get out of here in a hurry”

“Aye sir”

For the moment the Scoutstar would remain sitting further out into the system and keeping a careful watch of the situation via long range DRADIS. If they were lucky their relatively low power signature wouldn’t be detected, but it was very wishful thinking and the chances of them avoiding detection for any substantial amount of time was unlikely, but as much information was needed before they reported back to Colonial Fleet HQ who would take the matter to the government who would make the decision regarding the Colonial response; most likely sending some sort of emissary aboard a Battlestar to discuss the fort so close to Colonial space.

Netiher Admiral Harman, Captain Argudal or any other person aboard any of the ships of Exofleet Five knew exactly how long ago it was that FTL communications and sensors were developed, but they knew they existed well before the civil war, which was... 'long ago' would not quite suffice to describe it.

Captain Argudal reported in the incoming unkown ship to Admiral argudal who had simply replied "It's probably just a scout, nothing to worry about. Just say hello or something. Try not to engage them, it still is a free ship movement zone after all."
Captain Argudal was particulary pleased with this, and was quite eager to fin out how they looked up close and personal, but sadly for him, he had no way of contacting without giving away their presence. It would have to wait for now.
"Unless-" He said to himself.

Minutes later, reality itself opened up and Exofleet Five entered the system in what was effectively full force. In the burst of radiating energy caused by this rifting, the Intermissive Interdictor Launched a overt communications drone, a modefied sort of scouting drone - carefully built for covert action and even more carefully stripped of all traces of technology that would have to be 'retrieved' if captured. It could hardly match an ordinary scouting drone in sensors, or even in communications- but short distances like these would pose no problem at all.

Not too long after visual or other light-speed restricted sensors would have easily picked up the arrival and presence of Exofleet Five, the OC-drone arrived it's destination- some 100km or so from the Kobol scouting ship. Though it had approached the vessel at great speed, it would have posed no great worry to the ships crew -if they had detected it at all- as it would have begun it's rapid deceleration well before it was close enough for it to be properly detected.

An encoded message was 'sent' to the Kobal scouting ship, though it may or may not have seen akin to hacking from their side of things, depending on how advanced their hacking protections may have been. Saurai technology was a lot of things, but it wasn't subtle. The Standard Legions, id est, the Saurai Legions the 44th Independent Legion had seceded from, even had a number of stealth battleships, proving for once and for all 'stealthy' did not in any way equate to 'subtle'.

As for the fleet, it arrived in proper formation. It's three carriers and six battleships protected by the nearby smaller ships. THe ship shapes looked distinctly similar. Virtually all ship types were shaped like a triangle when vieuwed from abve or below and like a rectangle when viewed from the sides. Naturally, structures and weapons and other things occasionally protruded from their otherwise smooth surfaces. But in general, this rule of shape applied. Major exceptions to this rule were the Katharsus Class carriers and the Usurper Class cruisers, who both exhibited a more cylindrical shape.
Admiral Harman sent out a general message on the radio frequencies, which were nice and slow and would give him a little bit of time to asses the situation proper.

"This is Admiral Harman of the 44th Independent Legion's Fifth Exofleet, I believe there was one amongst you who wished to stake a claim to this system. We have much to discuss."

0600 Hours the Outskirts of the Augusta System
The small Ozawa-class corvette ship entered into the Augusta system noticing the large amount of activity in the dying system. The commander of the corvette, Captain Mimi Yummimura, a warrior and commander of the 9th fleet of the Ki-Shek War Clans. Her clan, the Yummimura's, control the 9th fleet of the War Clans as well as two different important trade routes in the War Clans empire. Her ship, the Toshiro was the newest corvette in the fleet....fitting because she herself was a new captain in the military. The AI of the Toshiro appeared in-front of her "Ma'am, we have entered the Augusta System. There appears to be several fleets in contact with each other...your orders?" "Activate the stealth field and deploy a manual drone to the surface of that fortress planet there." She pointed at the fortress planet where all the fleets were centered "Afterwards if we come into hostilities with the other fleets here alert the rest of the 9th fleet." "Yes ma'am... Stealth fields initializing, power output lowered, Drone Alpha-Six-One-Beta-Delta-Two activated, Drone A61BD2 exiting ship... Drone Pilot Yuri you are now free to do your work." "Alright Toshiro." The crew of 200 began their daily routines and rotations, with the engineers maintaining the assorted machinery including the big guns, turret control systems, life support, oxygen generators and recyclers, and of course the engines. Soldiers keep guard as the men on the bridge aid the captain and Toshiro. Others such as cook's and doctors performed their daily checkup's and calls.

0630 hours Drone A61BD2
The Drone begins sending data back to the Toshiro this data being visual and sound there was not much important information to be given upon initial exit. Soon enough after about 3 hours the drone reached the 44th Independent Legion's 5th Exofleet, the drone not recognizing the markings on the ships hull examined the ship further recognizing something that resembled weapons on the ships hull. Noting the weapons the drone went into stealth mode activating its stealth field to hide from the unfamiliar ships gaze.

Admiral Harrison raised a eyebrow at the new arrivals, he looked over to his advisor who said.

"The new arrivals entered stealth after they entered the system, we have been able to keep a relative accurate monitor on there movements and also the 44th Legion has made a attempt to communicate with again another arrival giving us their location. The Legions Ships is quite large, But I believe tactfully things are still in our favor. They seem to be unfamiliar with this sector of space"

"That is true, Korpulu Sector was overrun by swarm not 2 decades ago. For a nation claiming so much they sure dont even seem to know what happens on the other side of there borders"

"Or in this case, in there borders Admiral"

" Let the new arrivals keep scanning, our technology is completely alien in this galaxy so they will not learn much. Let the barbarians hide. This Admiral is talking like this is going to be a conversation"

"This is Admiral Harrison of the 5th Fleet of the Imperial Commonwealth of Phenixica, I am sorry you have had to travel such a long way just to see a system you clearly have not used in centuries and have not actually used in any particular productive manner yet supposedly have a legitimant claim too it be absorbed into a nation planning on actually using it"

The Admiral nods his head too a nearby control officer who spreads the order to raise shields on all ships in the fleet. Otherwise they had not moved, this was just a measure.

"Phenixica does not recognize your claim, does not recognize your authority in this system and I do have a schedule to keep too"

He then opens channels to all parties

"Spying on Imperial Ships and Colonies is seen as a act of war on his Majesty and his Imperial Realm. Disengadged your cloaking measures or we will do it ourselves"

He was getting tired of this now, if this went further it might start slowing down construction time. The space station in orbit was still expanding. At the end of it's contruction it would be a benemoth, 150 of the ships in the system go into hyper-space to pick up more supples. The same amount of ships were coming back to deliver the next components. The station had been already contructed in pieces and now those pieces would be put together.

Harrison turns to his communications officer.

"Contact Zerus, her Princess will want to keep up to date with progress"

The rather rude message was ill-received.
This is Admiral Harrison of the 5th Fleet of the Imperial Commonwealth of Phenixica, I am sorry you have had to travel such a long way just to see a system you clearly have not used in centuries and have not actually used in any particular productive manner yet supposedly have a legitimant claim too it be absorbed into a nation planning on actually using it."Phenixica does not recognize your claim, does not recognize your authority in this system and I do have a schedule to keep too.

Thankfully for everyone, Admiral Harman kept his cool. Well, mostly. His agitation could clearly be heard in his voice when he jammed his message through to the FTL communications port this time. His message crackled as it was being forced through the more private encrypted channels.

"Procedures for granting authority and posession of this system cannot start or finish without all involved parties recognising the claim of all the other involved parties. An admiral should understand the importance of procedures. Realize that I will be forced to defend this system if you do not file a formal claim to this system. Please formally state your intentions with haste or we will be forced to fire a warning shot.

The over 1400 kilometre long battleships loomed eerily, but motionlessly in the system. Their largely inactive weapons did not need much charging, as their individual capacitors were already fully charged. Of all the weapons aboard them, the single main weapon was the most dangerous, though it was normally only used for shooting down capital ships. To the phenixicans it was probably more worrisome that they also were filled to the brim with smaller projection weapons. Like all projection weapons, their most dangerous attribute was that they worked using a highly powerful laser-like pinpoint FTL beam which was not designed for damage in the slightest, merely for opening a microscopic hole in the target's armour or shields, through which then the payload would be transported at FTL speeds, delivering a burst of volatile plasma, or even antimatter, straight into the heart of the enemy. Even if the beam itself failed to fully penetrate armour or shields, the strain put forth by said weapons on the armour and shield of their targets was very large, due to the sheer concentration of energy on a single microscopic point. If effect, the range of these weapons could be limitless, in practice they served as long-range weapon systems. Yet the power of these weapon systems was not well known, or feared, outside of saurai space. Using them once, even as a warning shot, would most likely have deadly consequences. It was desirable such a situation be avoided.

OOC, this nation is an autonomous exclave, but will ICly (rather firmly) assert that they are representing the whole of the 44th on diplomatic occasions. Please take their IC aspirations of grandeur and power with several grams of salt.

0930 hours the Toshiro
Captain Yummimura was alerted to the message shortly after it was sent out. "Toshiro disengage stealth systems.... Drone Pilot Yuri! Disengage the stealth systems on the drone and prepare it go orbital entry! I want a makeup of the soil, the fertility of the soil, and the probable chance if life outside if a dome." "Yes ma'am!" The Toshiro's stealth systems disengaged a the power levels returned to normal output.
0940 hours Drone A61BD2
The drones stealth systems disengaged as it began to move once again. It began moving towards the nearby planet for orbital entry. The drone came closer and closer towards the planet as it engaged its thrusters to slow down it's descent. As it came closer towards the surface of the planet it she the outer protective late leaving the drone with three layers of protection left. It then reached the surface of the planet and began it's testing.

"Fire the forward cannons at the planet, show them what our ships are capable of"

The massive guns on the Nadine aim towards the planet, the shot exits the barrell at amazing speeds. The white light streching as light fails to keepup with it. The shot hits the surface with a massive destructive force. But ontop of that a white light larger then the ship it originated from blinks in and out of existance. At first sight of the planet showed no obvious difference but scans would show otherwise.

The landscape had been changed, it was like somebody had smeared a oil painting of a landscape. Everything was out of place and a chunks of rocks fell from the sky and a huge dust cloud had erupted. this was the dreaded Warp Torpedo, Phenixicans spent years making there fusion reactors and Warp Arrays smaller to make this capable. Using the immense power of the reactor the torpedo on impact opened thousands of wormholes in a split second and cut them off. By seeing what it did to a planet surface the destructive damage this can cause to ships was beyond belief.

Before the recent reforms all ships were outfitted with this weapon, that changed not only Dreadnaughts and only with Admirals permission. He hoped this would make his point very clear.

"You might feel safe in that very large ship Admiral, but you might want to rethink your position before you threaten me with a warning shot.

"Move the Fifth Fleet into a formation, that will still leave the 300 odd ships to continue their focus keeping construction going"

The ships begin moving into formations arounds the 15 Dreadnaughts in the fleet. Benemoth Ships guarding there immeadiate flanks and small ships on the outside of that.

5th Fleet, Zerus

15x Dreadnoughts
45x Benemoth Class Battlecruiser
120x Resolution Class Heavy Cruisers
160x Revelation Class Frigates
155x Valkyrie Class Light Frigates
14x Bertha Carriers

"I did not come here to start a war, but Phenixica defends it's colonial interest. With absolutely no way of showing any use or occupation or so much as a glimpse that your legion has ever stepped foot in this system before now it is classed under the old term 'Terra Nullis' no sign of civilization, no sign of local intelligent life means in our books this can be claimed by the Empire. We know this can clash so eplorers search a system for a minimum 3 day period to wait for a reaction to there presense if none is given then obviously the System as atleast been 'Abandoned' or 'Beyond other interests' But you did not react"

Shields on all ships were raised to full, the weapon systems were not full operational but this was a formality. Something that could be done so fast it was just a polite gesture.

"This is Admiral Harrison of the Phenixican Imperial Navy, I wont threaten you with a Warning shot. but I will stress that you cannot win a fight againsts us"

SSGL Windfall, Judicator class, flagship of the Exofleet Five
Admiral Harman did not like this development, the vulnerability of large ships against torpedo's was well documented, although had had unwavering faith in the point defence systems. Most torpedo's would be triggered at the outer shield walls, but he could not dismiss the possibility that they were phased, however unlikely this was with modular shielding. A torpedo of the observed power could instantly disable a frigate if it wasn't picked off by the point defence and somehow got through all the shield layers.
Perhaps even destroy one. The larger ships would fare better due to the more efficient flak fields and ponit defence, but still. Battleships have never been renowned for manoeuvrability. Regardless of all this, things were formally out of his hands. Even though they had staked their claim, they had attacked a manned vessel in what was, at that point free travel space designated and under the responsibility of the 44th Independent Legion. He was obligated now to fire and warning shot, but also to leave the system. Since the claim had been formally submitted and the 44th had no reason at all to want this system and thus accepted.

They had forced his hand, and he did not like that one bit. They had a numerical advantage, but they had a technological advantage of completely unknown scopes by the looks of it. Objectively, he favoured the odds none over the other. The crucial fact remained that they were well within range of secondary and trimary weapon systems, but he could not judge if that was a positive or negative fact. If it came to a full confrontation only time would tell how well the trimary weapons would fare against their shields, or well well the primary and secondary weapons could destroy their ships before his fleet was in danger of being overwhelmed by their numbers.
He switched to the command channel, which had a system which had stayed secure and unbreached ever since it was first implemented.
"All capital ships and destroyers; align prow to face their capital ships. All ships; begin preparations for rift travel."

"Sitrep." He demanded.
The screen below him displayed in various their formation in various ways.
He had the option to fire the unwanted warning shot at the planet. But for that, he would have to turn one of his ships to face the planet, risking them being caught out of position.

He contacted the firing ship, which unfortunately appeared to be their commanding ship.
"You have fired upon a ship whilst in, what was at that time, space under our protection. For that, we must fire a warning shot. On a brighter note, your claim has been verified and accepted. You best brace, Godspeed."

He had made sure the varied capacity pulse Hyper-Light Amplified by Etheric Radiation cannon had been tuned down to it's minimal setting. Sadly, this minimal setting could still rip an entire continent out of a large rocky world if it's planetary shields had somehow been disabled or inactive. It could boil an ocean and blast down far enough to expose the core of a world.
"Fire a warning shot"
Instantly, the capacitors discharged with near explosive force. In a quarter of a second, exactly three seconds after the warning had been issued, ten thousand yottajoules of energy were discharged in beam weapon form. The sheer spatial distortion this caused was huge, but well within the safe limits of this inter-dimensionally travelling battleship. The aim was impeccable, and surely they could not mvoe fast enough to avoid the hit, weapon tracking was slow of the primary weapon system was slow, but more then sufficient at this range, especially since the beam velocity was far above the speed of light.
Admiral Harman secretly prayed and awaited sensor data to confirm the destruction of the targeted ship. For surely, he feared, a ship that size could not repel firepower of that magnitude.

The Drone Pilot cursed "Pashera!" "What is it Yuri?" "They threaten each other with warning shots on the planet! Our drone is still down there! However our reports have come back revealing that no life will be sustainable without terraforming." "Well then looks like we may just have to send out an open message to our new extraterrestrial friends..." Soon a message was sent out over an open channel to the separate parties "We of the KI-Shek War Clans advise you to not even think of firing on that planet. Firing on that planet will lead to the destruction of our research drone and therefore launching an attack upon the War Clans itself! Therefore one the 44th and Phenexicia may be caught in a war against two empires if they do not think wisely!" Toshiro appeared and asked "What shall we do now my lady?" "Alert the 9th fleet....it will guarantee us insurance against some threats......" within two hours the 9th fleet of the Ki-Shek War Clans was in system lead by Lord-Admiral Shikiro Yummimura, grandfather of Mimi Yummimura. The admiral was alerted to the other fleets in system as soon as they entered system from the warp. "Do not threaten them with our plasma batteries....we must observe for now...." "Yes my lord!"

((OOC:Technology mentioned in my factbook, Dreadnaughts have this capability. I balance it by making it absorb allot of energy and disabling shields temporarily))

A eletrical field passed over the Nadine, pulsing eletricity and then in a similar flash of light the ship disappeared and came back to dodge the blast. Admiral Harrison was in shock at what they thought they could get away with.

"Shields down Admiral, that was so last second that it over-loaded the coils" said a nearby Tactical Officer

"Thats fine, did not expect anything else" He turns too his communications officer

"Contact PEACS, ask them for information of this 'Independent Legion' when you have what we can get pass it on to her majesty on Zerus. This act of war will not go unforgotten"

He looks in the distance, as the enemy fleet prepares to leave.

"You want to destroy them Admiral?"

"No, let their Admiral save face. If another attack is launched.....you have permission to fire everything in our arsenal"

Admiral Harman and his fleet left with surprising speed. He would have to consult the threat posed by the phenixicans to this sub-sector.

Like any good admiral, he fought ghost battles and simulated fights inside his head. If only his carriers had been stocked with craft, rather than sporting vast, expansive but ultimately empty docking bays. the carriers were only recently constructed, so other than a few strike craft, it's compliment of larger ships such as the terranoid class, also a carrier, but more importantly, their cruiser docks were desolate. At full compliment a catharsus class could hdock 450 Xotl class and 44 Usurper class cruisers each. Though cruisers were noticeably more vulnerable to any kind of fire than frigates of similar size, those sheer numbers could sway the balance of any engagement. Even though his carriers currently had roughly one hundred and seventy five million strike craft, about a sixth of their normal compliment, they had not yet received shipments of air superiority tanks. Even if they had, you can't win battles with strike craft lone, especially without cruiser-based air staging support. He contemplated the effectiveness of the Phenixican's weapons, but simply could not figure out their effectiveness. After several hours of deep thought, he raised the alarm level on the scouting drone network.

With a stroke of bad luck the Phenixicans could stumble across a critical beacon system and if they did, all-out war for the defence of such a system was not unimaginable. Two months remained until the Xotl classes were finished, two years or so were left for the usurper classes, but some of them would start bobbing out of production starting a few weeks from now. His fleet was all this entire sector had in terms of operable spaceborne fighting strength, a minor subsector should not pose a threat to it. Then again, the escort and compliment was hardly complete. Soon though, soon.

The Admiral saw the arrival of the 9th fleet as little threat to overrule security. He observes a half-completed hlogram showing the Star System as it was. The sattilites litering the system high intensity light too create a rough look of the system. Why are these nations trying to cnntrol such dead space. He opened communications.

"I will tell you right now, if that warfleet remains in this system I will see too it that it does not leave. You are in a military system. Now if you want to open Diplomatic relations your more then welcome"

The Admiral grinned and said to his communications officer "Send out a message to the Phenexician's now Leftenant!" The Comms officer the sent out a message on a private channel to the Phenxician's "We are here for a diplomatic relationship. Indeed we do not wish for war at this time but we will be pressed into it if you threaten us." The Admiral gave orders for a fighter escort to a diplomatic ship to be prepared he then ordered several troops, and two diplomats into the ship. He then waited for the Phenexician's response.
