Who wants an alliance with Maratha?

Well you probably don't want an alliance with the Portuguese, but don't forget we control a good chunk of your western coastline. Perhaps an alliance where we help train your navy and improve it in exchange for something ?

What's the catch?

ahhh... there is the question. In return, you will aid us against any incursions by the Cordobans, and we will aid you if the Jihadists attack you.

This expires in ten years.

Oh and OMG I had a planned RP about the peaceful turnover of Macau to China, but if you want to not go through with it...

Well isn't this interesting India and Portugal coming together. Now that is an unlikely alliance to say the least seeing Portugal currently is sitting on rightful Indian lands while Cordoba is not. Perhaps India would see it might perhaps be better to sign a defensive pact with Cordoba or at least consider why India would side with Portugal instead of say China or Siam?

That sort of thing should probably be brought up ICly, once word that India and Portugal are talking gets out.

Ah I was just wondering if they could form up. Like how you said it would be impossible for me and Spain to be buddies. I was just wondering if the same here applied or if these two had a different history

It's not politics that make it impossible for us to be allies. Isabella is a direct parody of Isabella the Catholic; she will always despise Cordoba because it's Muslim. Religion prevents our union, not diplomacy.

Also, OMG; I...Liked that post I have to admit, it was very human of the new Emperor; his eyes cast down as he did what he did. It was most certainly very human; as no sibling enjoys ending another.

I know it isn't politics but still just wondering if they have the same sort of divide. But eh no worries about it, its not too much of my concern seeing as I am not going on the offensive any time soon in Iberia so a defensive pact against me is no biggie.

Though Portugal an alliance with the English might be possible since you have had a sort of long standing relationship with them. But that is just a thought.

Re: Portugal and India

It's more surprising to me simply because the Portuguese ALWAYS looked down on India. They only gave up their last toeholds in India because the Indian military made them do it. The Portuguese spent way too long terrorizing the Indian ocean seaboard in Africa and India to really view them as human, even if they pretend to. I recall a story in my African history class of one of the Portuguese Armada's raiding some Indian coastal city. During the raid, they spotted a ship full of pilgrims returning from the Hajj. They drove everybody below decks, locked the hatches and set the ship on fire.

Re: Macau
The peaceful return of properties is always preferable to military action. If you want to go on with that, it would be fine.

Its up to you dude. I figured you would probably attack it or peacefully acquire it eventually. Do you think it would be a heavily fortified city?

Since they managed to hold up to something like 30 years of siege, I imagine it's fairly heavily fortified.

'Any' is rather drastic. The Chinese were also focused on the whole French front at the time. A minor Portuguese city on the coast was fairly low priority.

Macau was never in any danger because Xiao's government thought the Portuguese were the only Europeans worth living. I don't know whether that carries over to the Current Emperor; but thought you should know.

Which I, again, think is kind of odd given the historical Portuguese tendency to treat anybody not from Europe as sub-human.

Relations with Portugal will most likely be cool at best.

Think about Xiao's "We are superior" attitude. Now think of Wanna-Be-Spain's attitude.

That is the exact point they got along on.
