Communications had been down for ten days, ten days of absolute silence. Engineers were still trying to repair major systems- welding sparks were the only light the people had to work with, save for the dimly lit computer consuls that had only recently been reactivated. A power spike had knocked out almost every critical system, save for life support, ten days ago; unable to send out a distress beacon, they were doomed to idly watch the lack of new post- a fate some considered to be worse than death. Suddenly, a dim hum symbolized the activation of the communication systems, and a team of engineers let out a cry of triumph.

“Primary communications are back online Sir, nothing fancy though- and probably only long enough for us to get a call for help out.” The Chief Engineer said, looking at the energy output displayed.

“First we need to establish if there is any help out there,” the Commander replied grimly.
