Thread where I'm gonna do...stuff...

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=129618

Shield ye eyes if you don't like disturbing stuff. You can do pretty much anything there in regards with me - talk, negotiate, buy stuff, criticize, watch, observe, declare war and be destroyed, fund the Spaniards who are getting persecuted to the Nth degree, etc. I'm gonna tell a story both from the view of the Spaniards and from the Saracen Africans, so two perspectives coming.

Super duper serious.

Grr Arcultia, just because one person commits genocide does not invalidate the genocide committed by another.

Now we're just arguing semantics ;)

However Europe is getting very interesting, you guys don't really have NPC nations to invade or annex anymore, so any expanding would be done at the expense of another player. Interesting indeed.

Kerbluh, having brain farts while trying to write this counter-insurgency post for Deus Vult. Either I'm having writer's block or I simply don't know how to continue the RP, hopefully the latter and not the former (I think I got that right.)

Raw Population: (1/10)

Technology: (10/10)
Military Strength: (1/10)
Social Dynamics: (8/10)

Government Type: Constitutional Theocracy
Head of State: Arzobispo Miguel Obando y Bravo
Head of Government: Comandante de la Revolución Daniel Ortega
Population: 5.6 Million
Military Size: 7,000
Brief Background Of Your Nation: In 1979, after the brief and violent ousting of the despotic Somoza family dynasty, the Sandanista rebellion soon made its national assembly the esoteric National Directorate that was briefly run by proportion of the three main schools of thought in the Sandanista movement. The prolonged war, the proletarian tendency and the 'Terceristas' or insurrection tendency. Headed by Tomas Borge, Jaime Wheelock and Daniel Ortega, respectively. It was understood in the early years that the Archbishop of Nicaragua, Miguel Obando y Bravo, was a critical ally in the insurrection and that the people continually revered him and his constant acts of Altruism.

It was too this end, in 1980 before the Contras has begun their full scale assault on the nation, that the National Directorate appointed Obando y Bravo as the official Head of State and among them they would elect someone from one of the prominent Sandanista factions. Officially a one-party regime, the Sandanista became effectively a three-party 'oligopolic democracy'. Daniel Ortega was appointed Head of Government and was assigned the duty of delegating roles. He assigned Tomas Borge to the Ministerio de Seguridad y Vigilancia (MSV), which he became ruthlessly efficient with. Jaime Wheelock was put into an extremely pivotal position, head of Departamento de Tendencias Agrícola (DTA). After flopping he was replaced by, and this is very important, Jeffery Sachs and upcoming young Economics professor. This strike of perfect luck was due to a Nicaraguan lady, secretly an agent of the MSV, who turned his brilliance to the regimes attention.

Following the economic explosion in the farming industry, something that would have been impossible had Obando not been put in such a position of power and the relatively moderate Daniel Ortega de facto being made leader of the Sandanistas, which had come after DTA Head Sachs pushed for very 'anti-Marxist dogma' in the industry. This trend led to Nicaragua becoming a regional juggernaut in the exportation industry. There were also the unsubstantiated claims that MSV Agents, under the direct order of Borge, were sabotaging other nation's crops.

Skirmishes along the Honduran border were growing increasingly common in 1981, and by late that year a Nicaragua-obsessed journalist named Stephen Kinzer took the first photographs, and evidence, that the counter-revolutionary group were being giving asylum in Honduras. This sparked a wave of outrage, and soon, under the blessing of the Archbishop Miguel Obando y Bravo, the Sandanista's now veteran military invaded Honduras. Fighting reached all the way to Tegucigalpa until the Honduran government capitulated to Nicaraguan demands for the Northern Mosquito coast unjustly annexed in decades passed. With all the Honduran evidence that hadn't been destroyed and a new sense of nationalism the Sandanistas threatened war on Costa Rica for housing the Contra leader Eden Pastora. For handing the criminal over and the return of the Guanacaste Province to Nicaraguan hands the militarily lacking Costa Rica would not be annexed.

In 1983 the 'Constitution of the Holy and Sovereign State of Nicaragua' was drafted and signed by the entire group of the National Directorate, that was expanded to twenty seats (six for each major Sandanista faction subscriber and the remaining two for independents), and Daniel was expunged from the ND and made Commandante of the Revolution. At the same-time Archbishop Obando was made Head of State with substantial influence and blocking power, and the Constitution delegated that the Head of State always be of the Catholic clergy and a Nicaraguan nationalist.

Into the 80s and 90s the Directorate down-sized its military and continued to train them in guerrilla and counter-insurgency warfare. While the official military size was seven thousand the MSV held three thousand employees, at least half of which were combat trained. The upswing of spending less of defense was that more money could be funneled to purchase subsidized farm equipment and fertilizers for farmers. In 1989 the Agricultural Industry was nationalized under the leadership of the DTA and its still head, Jeffery Sachs. The continuous destruction of regional crops made Nicaragua the only strong and stable investment for foreigners and with this it flourished.

The new investments lead to a booming service industry. When inflation became an issue Sachs would use his two other positions as head of La Oficina Económica (OE) and central banker to cool it down by instituting control prices and decreasing the flow of money. While the U.S. labelled such practices illegal and stated the Sandanista government couldn't manipulate their cash flow they were ignored. Owing the renowned fighting skills of the Sandanista Front and a stinging defeat in Vietnam the Directorate wasn't too worried about foreign involvement.

Hello everyone. Still open, I suppose...

Player Name: Freyden
Nation Name: The Federation of South-West Africa (Suidwes-Afrikaanse Federasie, Sudoeste Africano Federação)
Land: Namibia, Angola
Capital: Windhoek (executive, legislative), Luanda (judicial)
Primary Language: English (others include Afrikaans, Portuguese, German)
Currency: South-West African pound

Point Distribution:
Raw Population: (5/10)
Economic Power: (7/10)
Technology: (6/10)
Military Strength: (5/10)
Social Dynamics: (7/10)

Government Type: Semi-presidential republic
Head of State: President Samuel de Vries
Population: 32,036,400
Military Size: 180,800
Brief Background Of Your Nation: For nearly 200 years, Namibia and Angola were colonially occupied by the United Kingdom and Portugal. They were seen both by the native population and the minority white landowners as corrupt and unjustly exploiting their countries' natural wealth, leading to a resentment of the inept authorities. In early 1968, levels of discontent and civil unrest reached a fever pitch. With the emergence of pro-independence organizations across the political spectrum in both countries, a campaign of disobedience, violent and non-violent, was begun, largely drawing support from a urban-poor demographic. A crackdown, led by the authoritarian Portuguese 'Colono-Guarda', however, failed to stem the growing tide of opposition.

The movement remained largely disorganized, though, and protests lacked simple coordination, often times resulting in clashes not between protestor and authority, but protestor and political rival. On July 19, 1968, the largest organization, the socialist-republican Popular Liberation Front of Southwest Africa (Die Frente) broadcast a binational wide-ranging call-to-arms on radio, what is now known as the 'Luanda Call'. The broadcast announced a "revolutionary insurrection", and urging the population to take to the streets in open revolt, challenging both Portuguese and British colonial governments. This marked the beginning of the Wedergeboorte, a protracted veld war across Namibia and Angola, pitting a terrain-wise but largely untested rebel force, against a well-trained but ultimately unacclimatized and unreinforced colonial army. Led by the charismatic son of a sisal plantation owner, Isaias Salazar, Die Frente forced the authoritarian Portuguese regime in an uneasy alliance with the British, in an attempt to recoup some of their early losses in the east of their colonies. Ultimately, though, this was to no avail. Following several decisive defeats in the Okavango and Otjozondjupa, the British relented, and allowed the capture of Windhoek on May 3, 1970. The situation for the Portuguese was not much better, facing a collapse of several fronts in the south and east, as well as increasing left-wing sentiment in their homeland. This downward spiral culminated with Die Frente forces reaching the western coast with medium losses. With the bloodless Carnation Revolution of '71 in Portugal, the colonial forces were forced to withdraw, resulting in a collapse of all serious resistance.

With both capitals captured, the Revolution was complete. The new Frente government, faced with increasing war weariness from the population, declared the formation of a unified democratic state on July 19, 1971, the third anniversary of the Luanda Call. Following a transition period of 8 months, the first elections yielded a victory for the New Union Party, the successors of Die Frente. In the years that followed, the government decided to implement an anti-factionalist policy of "one nation, one language", selecting English as the new official language of South-West Africa. A period of economic growth also ensued, thanks to Angola's high proportion of arable land and valuable natural resources, and Namibia's developed financial industry. Politics are now dominated by the ruling New Union Party (conservative liberal), and Worker's Party (left socialist). SWA is a semi-presidential republic, meaning the Parliament's 200 members and the President are elected by popular vote. The Parliament is the legislative body, and the President is Head of State, responsible for both foreign policy and wielding executive power.

I for one would be more interested in a sort of Bosnian-Serbian War from the '90's... major ethnic cleansing by both sides, foreign intervention... would be fun
